At Home Veterinary Care

Tallahassee, Florida
General Info
The veterinary services offered by At Home Veterinary Care in Tallahassee focus on clear communication and lasting relationships to ensure families across Florida maintain confidence through every milestone and appointment. Pet owners often begin veterinary visits by recounting tales of their animals showing reduced movement, meal avoidance, frequent scratching, or altered behavior patterns. Veterinarians initiate their examinations by assessing body weight trends joint movement oral health respiratory rhythms coat and skin checks along with behavioral observation. The entire body of findings gets recorded and examined to provide pet owners with clear distinctions between normal conditions new developments and potential issues that might need monitoring or follow-up care. At Home Veterinary Care delivers preventive services including vaccinations lab testing dental cleanings nutritional planning and parasite control while also providing chronic care support for allergies arthritis and metabolic issues. Every appointment serves as an opportunity to address previous issues while adjusting health objectives and presenting age-, breed-, and environment-specific care options, which may involve lifestyle adjustments, seasonal needs, or behavioral changes. Upon departure owners receive detailed actionable summaries including treatment plans, symptom watchlists, follow-up schedules and access to digital records alongside medication tips. Families juggling hectic schedules alongside care for senior pets or multiple animals have the option to request modified pacing, access telemedicine when possible, and receive logs to maintain organization between appointments. This veterinarian misdiagnosed an issue with my cat and dog related to in home use of a vaporizer and eucalyptus (very harmful to both cats and dogs) which caused both to get digestive upset.  It was a pretty obscure illness so when our elderly cat, Hannah Belle, was ready to make her transition, we decided to give At Home another try.  What we found out is that this vet requires a sick animal needing to be euthanized first receive a rabies vaccine.  I explained to the tech that the cat was only about 6 or less pounds and very sick, incapable of biting anyone.  Moreover, I told her the cat was immune to rabies because she had received many rabies vaccines in her lifetime.  I believe vets are refusing service to pet owners who are consciously deciding to put their pet's health over lining veterinarians' pockets. I have no trust in this vet. I often waited an hour to see the vet at each appointment. Also used At Home for grooming. At my dog's last grooming appointment, I was told that my dog was the only grooming appointment. I dropped her off at 8:30am and requested to pick her up as soon as she was done, but they never finished until 5:30pm. They didn't cut her as I requested, and after getting her home we noticed that she had two cuts on her stomach. Since we had noticed the cuts after hours, I called them the next business day. I was told the vet would call me back. When I didn't hear back, I called again the next week and was again told she would call me back. I live across town and was out of town during the holidays, so when I was able to stop in the office, I finally got a call from the vet. She told me I was informed that it would be 5-6pm for pickup (I was never informed of this), that the cuts were just something that happens all the time, and that there was no record of my earlier calls. Dr. Blount didn't seem concerned about the issues I presented, didn't seem apologetic, and just thanked me for my feedback. I can't trust this vet anymore, and have found somewhere else to take my dog. Read Less

Dr. Blount is an excellent veterinarian with years of experience and I would not trust the care of my cats to anyone else (although I know our area has other well qualified veterinarians). We found her facility when we moved here 4 years ago and noticed that she does house calls (very convenient with multiple pets). We have found her to be not only professional and knowledgeable, but extremely loving and caring to all of our pets (even a prickly hedgehog). Also, the facility is beautiful! It is so refreshing to have so many windows and natural light for both humans and pets inside the facility. Outside, the swimming and obstacle course areas for dogs are beautiful and well maintained (almost makes me wish I had a dog to use them). Read Less

At Home Veterinary Care over charges for their vaccines/pet medication. Because of this, I requested a written prescription for my pet’s medicine and they refused to give me one. They told me that they do not do this because online pharmacies are not FDA approved. THIS IS A LIE. Pharmacies are not regulated by the FDA. Only drugs are. Just as your doctor has no say in what pharmacy you use to fill your prescription, your vet should not either. Their job is to examine your animal and write a prescription for what he/she needs, not force you to buy the drug from them. This is unethical and against the law. Florida Statutes 474.214 says that “Failing to give the owner of a patient, before dispensing any drug, a written prescription when requested,” is grounds for disciplinary action. Additionally, At Home Veterinary Care failed to update shot records I sent in to them, resulting in my pet receiving the same vaccinations twice! This is dangerous! I should have expected this clerical error, however, given how the veterinarian treats her receptionists. There is a new receptionist practically every other week as no one will stay and take the verbal harassment. While the facilities here are top notch, the leadership is toxic and unethical. This is such a shame because it is clear they care about animals, and there is so much potential here. I hope they clean up their act from a policy and professionalism standpoint so they are better able to serve their clients and care for their patients. Read Less

The students that work there are great, they work very hard and the ones I have met was very nice and caring of our dog. But, let me tell you about our boy, he is a rescue dog, he was stabbed and thrown  from a car, he does have emotional issues. He doesn't like small rooms or crates.(He is great with other animals and people). We explained all of his anxieties and fears, they said no problem they could work with him, they said they understood. We take him for walks all the time and never have issues with him on a leash, but they did. Ever time they put a leash on him he would grab it from them. They said they could work with him, I had a couple of meetings with the doctor, she came up with ideas, but they never followed through with them. Came to find out they were, putting him in one of the small rooms, so his anxiety got worse. We will not be taking our dog back, the doctor does not follow up on what she says she will do. Read Less

Some people are mad they got fired from this facility. At Home Vet care has one of the best dog daycare programs in town; as well as one of the best doctors. Groups of "20+" dogs are non-existent, I can tell you that. A play group averages 10 dogs, with 2 staff members leading the groups. They are also very safe, as the staff leading the playgroups are trained to do so. Dog fights happen anywhere you go, but here, they are very rare due to the knowledge of staff, and when they do happen, they are quickly resolved; not to mention how great it is having a vet on site to take care of anything serious. It's also not very easy to escape the facility, as there are fences and hot wires surrounding it. Peoples feelings on working for this business have nothing to do with the care provided for the pets.Read Less

I was an employee at home vet care- dr Carter was fantastic- dr Blount on the other hand "the owner" would treat employees horribly talk down to everybody and not appreciate anything anybody did for her. I personally think she bit off more than she could chew with this establishment and was more concerned about the "flashy" aspect of it and not the medicated portion and the debt affected her mood she was honestly horrible, she would cuss and scream at employees like it wasn't nothing. I would never recommend even taking your dog to "play-care" at this establishment it's very easy for them to escape and get injured or just get hurt during play-care I don't think it's ever a good idea to have 20+ dogs playing with one another if a fight breaks out, there honestly isn't too much you can do.Read Less

Read Less

Professionalism & Care surpassed my expectations. I reached out to Dr. Blount's clinic long distance, to ask her to care for my mother's pet at her local senior living facility. She followed up with the utmost care and professionalism.

Dr. Blount is our house call veterinarian for our three cats. Recently, our old male developed a urinary blockage. Dr. Blount came to our house in a timely manner, asked all the right questions, performed a through physical examination and diagnosed the problem quickly. She moved swiftly and skillfully to relieve his discomfort, transported him to her physical facility for additional treatment, and he is doing well and recovering nicely. As a former veterinarian, I can attest to the fact that Dr. Blount is professional, knowledgeable, and thorough. She is also very kind. I feel comfortable in recommending her very highly. Read Less

We take both of dogs here often for play care, be it for the day or while on vacation. We have never had any issues and the dogs always have a good time. I have actually watched my dogs playing in the field when I go to pick them up and all of the dogs seem to be having a blast and getting plenty of attention from the trainers. We also decided to start using their vetrinary services for all of our animals and have been very happy so far. I also want to add that the entire staff has always been friendly and professional since we started coming here 3 yrs ago. Read Less

We are so happy we found At Home Veterinary Care! Our dog Lady is a 2-year old Lab mix and she needs to run and play. At Home lets her do that and we now bring her in at least once per week to let her have some great exercise and play with other dogs. She loves the water, so the shallow and deeper pool lets her enjoy water time and we love looking at the videos they post. Thank you, thank you, thank you for this wonderful and caring place! I came here to get my two dogs bathed. I didn't bring any paperwork. They never told me when I made the appointment that I would need paperwork. They wanted me to fill out a two page form. It had inconsequential things on there that didn't pertain to washing my dogs. They seemed more interested in getting the paperwork and forms filled out and getting my information than in getting to know me and my dogs. I left with my dogs because I do not do business with a place that is more interested in getting my telephone number than they are in talking to me as a person. Read Less
