I've been using this place since it opened under the original vet. It's very convenient, so I stayed. The new owner is very nice and doesn't insist that I do the full bloodwork unless there's good reason. I have four rescue cats that stay inside so they get the basic shots. Buck lake Animal Hospital is a very good place to bring your pets to. I brought my rescue puppy for his first visit and got a lot of complimentary stuff. They gave us 2 free bags of Hills Puppy food as a thank you, waived the consultation fee, and even gave my puppy a free nail trimming! First appt a year ago was great. This year, NOT so great! Prices had gone way up - and was quoted $160 (for 2 dogs -- even asked if I understood this correctly - sadly did not get her name!). Got there and it was almost $180 per dog!! Being old and disabled on a limited income, I was not happy. Plus we waited for a very long time. Apparently there was not a vet on site (overheard the receptionist saying she could call the vet on his cell phone). Will not go back. Found an even better vet with lower prices closer to me. Called last week to take our 2 rescues in for annual shots, etc... was quoted $160 for both... I repeated it back that it was only a total of $160. In between then, my daughter asked if I could please help her get their 2 dogs in for their annuals. Silly me, thinking another $160 for both of them. NOPE, $481.00 -- FOUR HUNDRED EIGHTY ONE DOLLARS -- and that was NOT all the rabies shots either, 2 did not need them. After sitting there for almost TWO hours, me and my SIL walked out. IN the meantime, someone had just spit gum out and his Blue Heeler (a rescue as well) stepped in it and it imbedded in her paw along with a stick that was poking her in the foot!! They didn't even fix this either and so now we are having to try to fix it on our own!! $55/dog for heart worm testing (which includes tick disease testing.. none of our dogs have even ever had a single tick!!) -- I am disabled and on a fixed income -- SS only goes so far! Will NOT be going back to these guys! Found another place who does the EXACT SAME thing for the cost!! Shame on you taking advantage of the elderly this way -- or anyone for that matter.Read Less

I have worked at Buck Lake Animal Hospital for over 26 years. When I first brought my pets to BLAH I was a client. Dr. Carter was incredible. I acquired a job working with Dr. Carter and have been there since. My love of pets and there their families, good or bad, happy or sad has been a rewarding experience. Almost 2 years ago Dr. Carter retired and I was worried the Dr. who purchased the practice could stand up to the same standards that we worked so hard to establish. It was an easy transition since Dr. Varela has taken command and discovered that he is as compassionate and knowledgeable as the Dr. I had worked for, for over two decades. I have no doubts that Dr. Varela is more then capable to meet your needs and I continue to work there for the love, devotion, care, and the knowledge that we can and will always treat all your family members with the same care and love that we do our own pets. Since 1989, my pets have been going to Buck Lake. It has been an easy transition from Dr. Carter to Dr. Valera. The care and concern Bradley Bear (mixed-beed dog) receives from Dr. Valera and all the staff (especially Terry) is AWESOME. When he was a puppy, he was extremely difficult and staff was very patient. Now that he is a "good boy," the patience shown to him continues. I have used Buck Lake Animal Hospital since 1993 and recommend them highly. They have been extremely kind and compassionate with me and my dogs. I have suffered greatly from PTSD and a traumatic head injury that I received while serving my country. They have taken care of several of my dogs from cradle to grave. I love Buck Lake Animal Hospital. While I miss Dr. Carter, we have had a GREAT new experience. We have been going there now for three dogs. Dr. Valera is AWESOME, while he is new to the practice, I LOVE HIM! Nugget can be protective of me and he did an AWESOME job keeping her relaxed and examining her. He is VERY caring. A true small town, welcoming, family felt business. I've been taking my dogs to Dr.Carter for years now and every visit I feel like im visiting family. I would (and have) recommend Buck Lake to anyone who is looking for a vet who will give their pet the best medical care possible. I have been taking my pet there for years and love that they know who I am and my pet's names as soon as I walk in the door. In response to the first post, I have never had a problem regarding financial issues... of course, you are expected to pay your bill, but if you are honest and sincere about your situation I have found that they will do their best to accomodate. Do not take your pet there if it is an emergency!!! They are a money grubbing outfit. we have been their customers for MANY YEARS and I was out of town for a few days and our dog had a problem. Even after YEARS of being a good customer they refused to see the dog until they were paid in full. My wife asked if they would bill us NO! NO!they would not.
