Our 11 year chihuahua got sick one evening. She has gotten sick before, so we didn't think much of it. The next morning she didn't look well so we took her to our vet to be checked out. After IV, because she was dehydrated, blood work and an ultrasound, the results showed her gall bladder enlarged. They recommended we take her to Capital Veterinary Specialist for a second opinion and recommendations. It was Friday after 5pm by time we left our vet and headed to CVS. It was also the first night they started their Urgent Care Weekend. We were expected and they examined her and did another ultrasound. Since she was too weak for any surgery, the suggestion was to keep her on IV with antibiotic and pain meds, with the hope the gall bladder would decrease in size and not burst. She needed to get stronger. This would also determine whether surgery would be the right option. We contacted them via text message the first evening before we went to bed to check on her. We received a response along with a picture of her, which made us feel reassured that she was in good hands. The picture gave us comfort. We were able to visit her throughout the weekend, and everyone was so caring. Every evening we texted to check on her. Monday we had an appointment with the surgeon, Dr Drygas, for his opinion and recommendation. At this time she was looking better, but the gall bladder had not decreased in size. His suggestion was to do surgery and remove the gall bladder. Surgery was done on Tuesday, and we were contacted by Dr Drygas after surgery was complete to advise us she came through the surgery well. We couldn't see her that day but we could check on her throughout the day. We saw her on Wednesday and Thursday she was released to go home with antibiotic, pain meds, a special diet with a follow up appointment in two weeks. We highly recommend Capital Veterinary Specialists whenever you need a Specialist. The staff there are wonderful. All the vet techs, Dr. Skye, and even the front desk staff showed their patience and concern. We were never made to feel that we were annoying or bothering them in any way. We were always greeted with respect and concern and given peace of mind that our furchild was in good hands. I know she got the best of care. We especially appreciated our surgeon, Dr Drygas, who took the time to explain everything to us about the surgery. By time the appointment was over, we felt confident in him and agreed to the surgery. His patience and understanding before and after the surgery, in addition to his tremendous skill in the operating room, saved our furchild's life. We cannot thank them all enough. I highly recommend them. They are truly an awesome group of professionals. I thank my vet for referring us to them for this life threatening circumstance. Monday she had her follow up appointment with Dr Drygas. He was very happy with how she has healed and gave her permission to be herself. In two weeks she has another follow up appointment with one of the Internal Medicine doctors for an exam and an ultrasound. After that appointment, we should know more of what needs to be done to keep her healthy and happy. Read Less
