DO NOT go to this vet!! Not only one, but two of my dogs were affected by their medical malpractices. I was told that my pug's five minute seizures were no big deal, another vet put her on meds and now she is fine! My other dog had a big lump on her, and we were told by them that it was just a bruise. We went to another vet when the bump did not go down and it turns out it was cancer and she now has to have her leg amputated. Her leg could have been saved if they wouldn't have diagnosed her falsely. Please save your pets and go to a different veterinarian. Read Less

Westwood Animal Hospital has been our go-to veterinarian in Tallahassee for our 2 dogs for years now! Dr. Hall has a great rapport with the animals, maintaining friendliness and kindness even with those pets who clearly don't want to be there. We recently had to bring in our large Plott Hound, who already throws a temper tantrum at any kind of inconvenience to himself, but with the pain from ant bites, allergies, and a swollen ear, he was even less of a happy camper. Dr. Hall quickly diagnosed the issues and got him on antibiotics, all while keeping him as relaxed as possible. Our other large Lab is also brought in for his yearly check-ups and, with his history as a rescue stray, visits are never fun. Nevertheless, Dr. Hall and his staff have made the best of the situation and handle the shots for him very well. Overall, I couldn't recommend Westwood any more highly! Read Less

Very sketchy. I took my cat there because she was chewing the end of her tail. They prescribed her antibiotics and wrapped her tail. After a week the problem wasn’t fixed so I brought her back and they told me they were most likely going to have to AMPUTATE HER TAIL. They tried nothing else. I immediately took her to another vet who said that was outrageous. And whenever I bring my cat they take her to the back to work on her where the owner cannot see. When they brought her back the second time she was SCREAMING and they came back with her and told me it wasn’t my cat that was screaming when it clearly was. Very sketchy vet. Anyone is much better off spending a bit more to go to a vet that actually cares. Read Less

We've been bringing our dog here for about a year now. The care and prices are excellent. My only complaint is that the front desk staff is always some level of put out. They are the most compassionate vet in all of Tallahassee. When my Max died years ago he was so large they came out to the car to put him asleep so we could take him home. Today we went to pick up our Rockos ashes. We did not have the money to pay for the beautiful cremation box so all we thought we would get was his ashes. I have a long history with this vet. My pets have seen and been cared for by all three doctors on staff. They are the best. I highly recommend them and the care they provide. In fact, when my co-workers would whine about the vets they used, I would suggest they go here. Every last one has changed and now use them. That should say something. Don't be afraid to drive across town for quality care. The staff and doctors are absolutely the best. Thirty years later and cou...ntless pets I have loved have benefitted from their quality care. Here's a short story: My newish adopted lab mutt and I attended Basic Manners classes through the City. One of the teacher/trainers told me she thought my dog was dysplastic. She recommended I have her checked out. So we scheduled an appointment with Dr. Hall at Westwood. She was x-rayed and Dr. Hall explained to me what the x-rays showed. Her hips were extremely dysplastic. What do you recommend I asked. He said he could charge me a lot of money and operate (and the operation may not fix things forever) OR he said, knowledge is power. Don't let her get fat and don't take her on five mile long walks. She has a lot of life in her. My pup was six months old at the time of the diagnosis. I opted not to let her get fat and not to take her on long walks. She lived to be fourteen years old. That's a long life for a 65 pound deluxe mutt. That's an honest vet. We've been going to Westwood for 34 years through the lives of 6 dogs (5 dachshunds and a lab). We started with Dr. Sanders because we got numerous positive comments from friends (this was before the internet existed); that positive feedback was confirmed when a veterinarian friend of ours described Dr. Sanders as "a vet's vet."  If Sanders is the "go-to-guy" for other vets, that says more than any internet review.  We've also had dogs treated by Dr. Hall, and got the same compassionate, sensitive, and extremely knowledgeable care from him. I don't know the other vets at Westwood, but Sanders and Hall have been partners for a long time, and I KNOW that they wouldn't ask anyone to join their practice who didn't meet their high standards. I also know Laura and Susie behind the desk to be extremely helpful. Two illustrations: first, it happens we are moving to the Tampa area where Laura has a lot of friends, and Laura has gone the extra mile to help us find a vet near our new home. Also, when our lab finally died (at 16 -- another testament to Westwood!) Dr. Sanders gave us a miniature dachshund puppy that someone had abandoned in a parking lot in Tallahassee. How could you EVER hope to find a vet that compares? And by the way, their pricing for the work they do is extremely low, now that we've had a chance to compare them to vets in the Tampa area. The first time I went to Westwood was with a rescue kitten I found in pretty bad shape. Dr Pridgeon offered no good tips and refused to vaccinate the kitten because his suggestion was to just put the cat to sleep. Of course we didn't do that and the cat is in a lovely home and thriving. Now that I have a dog of my own, we still go to Westwood but exclusively see Dr Hall. Let me tell you his man is AMAZING. He takes the time and consideration to remember our names (or at least make a note of them), and remembers our pup. He only does what's necessary and will tell you something is unnecessary if it's been suggested to you! He's quick and efficient, but it's clear how much he adores animals. He is so gentle and caring!Our most recent visit was last minute and we were seen 25 minutes before our scheduled appointment (that we had only made a few hours prior) and were out 6 minutes after our appointment time! We are in town visiting family and our dog got sick--second visit this happened, second time we went to Westside. Both times we found the staff to be very personable and very professional. We could not have hoped for better care. Our son has been going here since his college days--25+yrs. (three dogs, three cats)ago--and has nothing but high praise for all who work here. Their fees are lower than those of our vet at home and we have never had a problem getting in to see the doctor. Last, but not least, their treatment of two different issues has been effective! Everyone there was incredibly kind and interested in making me and my pet comfortable and to have the exam go as smoothly as possible. They didn't make me repeat myself a bunch of times to a bunch of people, and they helped my cat feel better when other vets could not. As soon as I called to make an appointment they went to work calling my other vet to get the paperwork together so they could know my pet. My dog had a hot spot on his neck. I called to see if I could get an appointment and they saw me and my dog they same in fact 2 hours after I called. Westwood helped my Westie (Scrappy) out today with a really bad skin allergy. No matter the issue, they have always treated my two dogs with incredible care and concern. My Boston Terrier, Nola, actually does not mind going to the vet. Westwood makes the experience great for both her and me. She has been seeing Dr. Sanders for a year now and his helper, Chris, is just great with her. She gets excited to see him and goes crazy when we leave. I only have had one bad experience where they took some samples when I scheduled for shots only and was unaware of them taking the samples. She was due for them, so it was in part my fault for not knowing she was due. Other than that everything has been wonderful and I recommend them to everyone I know! Read Less

I have two dogs that have a phobia of going to the vet, so it's always a nightmare whenever we have to take them. But the veterinarians there are so professional, empathetic and patient.
