Banfield Pet Hospital

Tampa, Florida
General Info
Banfield Pet Hospital in Tampa initiates care by studying pets' entrance behaviors during morning hours, their midday interaction tolerance, and their post-intervention resting patterns—delivering consistent and thoughtful service across Florida. The medical facility scrutinizes entry posture along with sound sensitivity while examining pacing patterns and focal behavior. Examination procedures during veterinary assessments align with animal response patterns: veterinarians inspect ears and teeth during curiosity phases and perform abdominal and joint checks during periods of animal calmness. Pet owners need to report nuanced behavioral changes such as their pets' resting spots in the house and mealtime approaches along with any increased time spent near doors or soft surfaces. Banfield Pet Hospital provides diagnostic services age-adjusted physical examinations preventative screenings gastrointestinal stabilization endocrine care surgical preparation and postoperative reflection routines. Pet grooming appointments can either deliver complete services in one session or split into two shorter visits based on pet behavior and caregiver availability. Veterinary staff determine medical task order through behavioral readiness instead of checklists by adjusting to pets' pacing and touch thresholds. Families receive debriefs based on the pet's daily rhythm—what symptoms are time-bound, which behaviors emerge after stimulation, and how to watch for rebalancing. The use of text check-ins along with pacing charts and adaptable timelines ensures follow-up care remains connected to the pet's emotional state instead of merely clinical benchmarks. Tampa families along with those across Florida receive animal healthcare from Banfield Pet Hospital which matches the living patterns of pets by delivering services that fit their real home behaviors and daily routines.

I would not recommend Banfield at Citrus Park!  We have come to this location for years.  During our many visits I have felt that the staff was not the friendliest but I continued to go for my two dogs annual visits.  Well my dog on Friday night ate a lot of chocolate.  He seemed fine when I went to bed so I thought we were in the clear but I woke up Saturday morning to him being really sick.  He had vomited throughout the entire house and was now wheezing and was very lethargic.  I brought him straight the the car and on my way to the vet I decided to call them to let them know I was on the way.  They refused to see me after I explained the situation and I even told the lady that my dog was having a hard time breathing.  She said they were double booked and offered me the phone number for poison control to help assist my dog in throwing up the chocolate.  I told her that I did not need that number because he had thrown up all over the house and that he was having issues breathing and that he needed to be seen and she said sorry they were booked and offered me the dang poison control number again.  I hung up on her and thankfully found another local vet who took our dog right in.  Emergencies happen, how do you as a vet refuse to take in a pet who is having difficulty breathing.  Very disappointed in this location and will never return. I saw the reviews and was scared to go but my dog was in very poor shape. I had gotten the dog from my sister who took very poor care of her. The dog (Ellie) was my mother's and mine but my mother had stage 4 cancer and passed. While taking care of everything and getting moved back to Vegas my nice fell in love with her so I let her stay with them. 2 years later my sister can have Ellie where she was moving. I gladly wanted her back. I saw her for the first time and she had more than doubled her weight. 25lbs in perfect health and had to be at least 50lbs. Not having much money I decided to go back to what we use to do. Getting healthy food, going on walks at night. She started looking better but took a turn for the worst. She had gotten diabetes and dropped to 13lbs. I was selling my car and applying for loans anything I could. The Vet Dr. Dianna Guernick confirmed my worst and would be best to put her down. Beyond devastated I couldn't even afford to do that that day. I had no choice and was having to bring her home in pain I'm sure when Dr. Guenick worked with me. I had to leave ASAP and didn't ask for anything as memento like a paw print  wishing I would have. I can't thank this team enough. I am eternally grateful and could never repay the kindness done for Ellie and myself Read Less

This Banfield location has the worst reputation in our area. I was going to another vet and found that every time I went the cost was typically $300. Since I have three dogs and now got a puppy within the last few weeks I decided two years ago it would be nice to be on a plan that I paid a little each month so that I wasn't hit with a large bill each time I took one of my dogs in for their comprehensive and vaccinations. Every time I would go they would tell me that my dog was in fact not due for what the post card I received in the mail "from Banfield " said. This happened three or four times which made it very inconvenient to have to make appointments make the time and then when you get there they tell you that the dog really wasn't due for what the postcard emailed me stated. Every time I would go I would sit in the waiting room when no one else is there and wait at least 45 minutes on average to be taken back to the office with my dogs. On my last visit I was called two days before and told that I would have to drop my two dioxins off for the day and I called and explain to them that I will not do that because my one little boy gets very upset and screams and cries and tries to climb over my shoulder the entire time we are in the vets office. I did not want to traumatize him by leaving him. They said that they will no longer be doing more than one comprehensive exam in a day so in the future I would have to drop him off no matter what. When I got to the appointment with my lab a couple weeks ago I had got stuck in construction traffic and was 15 minutes late. There was one other person in the waiting room and the nurse went back and excuse yourself to go talk to the doctor. She came out and said she would not be able to guarantee when and what time I would get in since the next appointment was already there and basically it was not convenient to see my dog at that point. I have my dad drive my lab and myself up there and he was waiting out in the parking lot for me and she was very rude and didn't care that I bring for dogs there. I pay a monthly fee for all of them and should have received better customer service since every time I go I wait 40 minutes to see the doctor. I was 15 minutes late and they basically said they didn't know if and when they could see me. I was able to cancel all of my contracts luckily before they renewed in a month or two. I have several friends that I have referred to the spin field and they have treated them the same exact way. The doctors are never the same and I am going back to my regular vet. They do not run a good business, no consistency, consideration or customer service skills. Read Less

They wouldn't even work with us on cancelling even though we had him on the plan and faithfully paid each month. They would not cancel plan unless we paid $200 for recent visit and tests. This is supposed to be medical insurance for the dog and I have never heard of insurance forcing the client to pay up. The amount they we had paid in over the years at 37.00 would well have exceeded the 200. It's just such a RIP off of a vet Read Less

This Banfield decided to create two separate charts for my golden retriever. Depending on when I would come in they would say they knew about one shot or the other, being spayed or saying she was still due. The staff was rude time after time when I brought this up to them and continually refused to acknowledge or merge the two charts. In addition, a simple visit would take all day. Their scheduling is horrible. As if this wasn't bad enough, it was nearly impossible to cancel my Banfield plan because despite me adding my girlfriend to the account she couldn't cancel and the only hours the call center was open was a very restrictive time period during the work. You can't cancel in store which would make sense but of course it wouldn't in banfields eyes... Read Less

I now know why they have such a low rating here... they don't care about they're customers. They truly don't. I've been a member with Banfield the past 2 years, and while I have had problems with them before, my past experience made it clear that my dog will never go back.We have a 2 year old lab mix who was very sick. I called and explained the situation and the lady on the phone said to bring him over asap and they would fit him in between appointments.I rush over and get checked in, I had to bring my dog back outside because of his diarrhea. After 10-15 mins I go inside to ask if they would call me when they could see him because I needed to stay outside in case he had an accident, I didn't want it to be all over their floor. The lady told me that I didn't know what I was informed but it would be a while. I explained that it could be an emergency and asked how long, she said it could be hours for all she knew.I then asked if she could call another Banfield for me to see if anyone could see him sooner and she said that "I was more than welcome to do that if I wanted to."My phone was dying, my dog had been vomiting and pooping his guts out and I'm at the worst customer service animal hospital around. I have been going there for a few months with my Husky. I was happy at first until that last time...Needless to say I will not go back there... Ever in my life... One day, my husband brings my dog on a drop off and I tell him to make sure to not agree with any costs, but to have the vet call me if anything. After a whole day without news from the vet, I call and ask if everything is OK. I usually speak with Oksana who is a sweet heart. But that day it was a different lady on the line and she was really rude. She told me I should talk to my husband because I need to pay what has been performed to get my dog, besides she tells me I am not even on the list to get her apparently... I have been getting my dog everytime without issue, but now I guess it was... So I call my husband and he said he never agreed to the prices, and he only got a call after it was performed.I call back Banfield, the lady tells me he signed and agreed so I need to pay. At this point I lose my cool. The total lack of professionalism from the team that day and the lack of respect from that lady were way too much for me. I ask my husband to come to the vet to support me and the vet and that lady only listened to him. That lady was clearly having an attitude and it amazes me that such a person works there. They had no signed papers so they could not show me any proof of what they were saying, yet they were making ME look like the bad person. They ended up not making us pay ONLY BECAUSE MY HUSBAND WENT WITH ME AND JUSTIFIED THE ISSUE. If it would only have been me, they would have made me pay. I am infuriated at this episode and will never ever put my foot at this Banfield location.I shop there at the store and that is it. Read Less

My husband and I have brought our dog to Banfield of Citrus Park for the past 9 years. The office is great for comprehensive exams and other routine items (dental cleaning, etc.).  Front office staff pleasant. When it comes to emergencies and true health matters, that is another story. We knew something was off with this office when we brought her in after she ripped her nail out. She was bleeding profusely despite being wrapped and we were told they were completed booked and sent away. That we could get over and we continued to bring her in for routine exams moving forward.Flash forward to July when we brought her in because we noticed she was limping. Now she is Boxer and it certainly hasn't been the first time she's hurt herself after running around all day - she is a very high energy dog. We were told it must be developing arthritis and were given Joint vitamins. A couple of week's later, it wasn't getting any better and we brought her in again. Again, told must be arthritis or a sprain. Still not any better, my husband brought her in on a Friday and you guessed, sent away with thought of a 'sprain.' By Sunday night, our poor dog was crying in pain and my husband rushed her back to Banfield for a drop off appointment. All of a sudden, we were called and told to pick her up and take to hospital because she has a serious heart  condition and needs to be seen right away. From there, we took her to Blue Pearl (amazing, amazing place) and discovered that yes, while she does have a heart condition- the real reason for her pain was Osteocarcoma (Bone Cancer), the most painful form of cancer a dog can get. We had to amputate her leg the following morning and began chemotherapy shortly after that. She has but months left with us.Could this have been prevented? No. Cancer is cancer. But, what angers us most is that why were we not given x-rays, anything on the 2nd, even 3rd visit to Banfield? By the time you reach the level of amputation, your dog has already been in pain for quite some time and while we could not have prevented this from occurring, if we knew about it sooner we could have taken the steps to alleviate her pain which breaks our heart the most.To add insult to injury, just a few weeks ago I went back there (begrudgingly) to get her heart worm/flea medication. Because she is on  chemo, we have to be extra careful with medicinal interactions and my gut told me to double check. I get home to give it to her and the pill in the bottle didn't match the label. Yes, really.Banfield left me a message the other day stating my monthly Wellness Plan was overdue (How that happened I don't know as I've been on auto-charge but ok). Don't worry, Banfield, I'll make sure my account is up to date. Funny how you're on top of your game when it comes to billing however. Read Less

Just took my cat in for a nail trim. Came home to find they didn't trim the side claws on her front paws. I called asking for a refund or even a partial refund because why would I want to pay someone to do only part of what I paid them to do? I had to hold her down and do it myself. They only wanted to offer me a $5 credit but I think a refund makes more sense since I plan on taking her somewhere else next time that knows a cat has 5 claws on her front paws. Front desk girl claims it's a "common" mistake; I've never seen this and I get her nails trimmed about 4 times a year. If it's as common as she claims, don't waste your money. my dog got hurt at this banfield. i brought him for his 6 month comprehensive. when i got him back he started urinating blood. the urine also became very fishy smelling. and he was in pain. i took him straight to the ER. apparently during his comprehensive at banfield, the way his urine was obtained, caused  trauma to his bladder. a tube was either placed through his penis incorrectly or a needle was inserted through that lower pelvic region to the bladder and was done incorrectly. my poor dog. tests done on my dog at the ER showed blood clots in his bladder from bleeding and also a urinary tract infection (UTI), (twice by the way) hence the fish smell. The UTI developed because of the pooled blood in his bladder.  i spoke to my  banfield vet and was fully compensated for his ER visit by banfield. i was also told that the banfield techs perform these procedures. These technicians are not qualified, and not efficiently trained...also, is there any supervision for these techs while performing such procedures? my banfield vet is phenomenal; great. he's very attentive to my dogs, but i cannot risk taking them there again and something bad happening to him/them again. I want to start telling you that my experience was a couple of years ago, I am not even sure the same doctor is still with the staff (I do hope she is not) and wanted to of why I never took my dog there again. We always loved Petsmart for the toys and classes for our dog (we still do). It sounded very convenient to also take him to the vet there as well. My first impression: About the staff: I really liked them, they were very helpful, really gave us attention and to our dog as well. About the doctor: Our dog is a small/mid size breed, and he was a puppy the first time we took him there. After waiting for the doctor for half an hour, she gets in the room, looked like she just saw a huge beast and ask the assistant to get a muzzle to be safe (??? he was no bigger than 10lbs) even the assistant smiled thinking it was a joke. So, after the dog had muzzle on she was acting like she was touching hot lava, barely touch our dog, spoke very low, we could barely understand what was happening. Don't get me wrong but if I am giving my patients professional (paid) advice, I would ensure they are actually understanding. Then she left (??), after another 30 minutes the vet assistance comes back, say that it was all good with our dog. She tried to joke about the happening but for the price we paid, we were not thinking it was funny at all. When outside we were talking to another customer that mentioned that certain days of the week they have a really good vet, so I should try to schedule the days he was in. Anyways, we kind of let it go but a week or so after that, our dog got some itchy spots and I call them and they try to schedule me for the next day, I knew it was last minute and understood if they couldn't schedule him. Well, long story short: we got there at 4:30pm, they put us in another room, left us there for almost an hour, when my husband went to complain you could see it that someone forgot us there. We saw the same doctor again (luck day I guess :/) she, again, looked afraid of dogs, and after a while told us that we should give some medication to calm our dog (???) the poor thing was laying down on the metal table not even looking at her!! It was my first time seeing a vet that was afraid of dogs! Read Less

My boyfriend and I have had a terrible experience with Banfield. We have been to two different Banfield locations  (this being one of them) and each visit has been an absolute waste of money. The first visit with our dog was in October. We had just adopted her frome the pound and she had a bad case of kennel cough, they gave us a medication and sent us on our way. Within a week the kennel cough progressed into pneumonia and she had to be rushed to bluepearl urgent care (which I highly recommend, they are wonderful) because she was non responsive. We almost lost her. The second visit with Banfield was very recent. Our dog developed a couple of sores on her neck that we had concerns about so we took her in. The vet did not run a single test. The gave us a topical cream described as Neosporin for dogs, did not tell us what the sores could be, charged us over $200, and sent us on our way. Now, a couple of weeks later, we took her to a different vet. The sores are severely inflamed, filled with fluids, and infected. The vet we took her to today (not at banfield) charged us the same amount of money but they did a skin test, gave her a shot of antibiotics, and said it needed to be treated from the inside out. Ultimately, Banfield has robbed us. Any treatment provided to us by Banfield has been proven useless and her illnesses have only progressed and resulted in more vet bills. We have now received far better care for the same price from vets aside from Banfield. I would NEVER recommend them. (Banfield has also never called to check up on our dog after seeing her) Read Less

I have raised a dozen cats. My current cat is the healthiest one I have ever had. He had his first need for a vet. Banfield diagnosed him and prescribed too much care (including stress-creating treatment) for too high a price. Explanations of what for and why were poor. Medicine they provided was good, but how to use it was poorly explained. Went to another vet got much better treatment and explanations for 1/10th the price. Read Less

I was comforted based on these reviews that we had found our new vet having moved to Lutz from St. Pete where we were very happy with our vet at Haines Road Animal Hospital. When I spoke with the Banfield Pet Hospital making the first appointment for our two small dogs, I asked if they would contact my old veterinarian and retrieve my girls records as i was unsure about what they needed, vaccination wise and of course I want my new vet to be apprised of my girls' medical history.  So our appt comes along and we clear our morning, husband takes off early, and we take the girls to the vets. They ask for our prior vets records. I tell them, I discussed this with the fellow I made the appt with, he said he would get them, I gave him the vet's number. He said he would be happy to do that for us. He didn't? No, he didn't. My old vet's office is closed and the tech tells me if we want to have a visit with doctor, that would be fine but she wouldn't be able to vaccinate them without their prior history. Yeah, no kidding. She says I can reschedule to allow them time to get the records. No thanks. I'll find another vet. It may seem small, but you just know when you've got a good vet. You feel cared for, that your animals are in good hands. I didn't get that feeling whatsoever. I envisioned our new vet reading up on our girls charts prior to our appt and coming into the room all up to date on the history of our girls, advising us what they needed, etc. I got none of that. I am not waiting until my girls are sick to realize oh my vet is clueless. I figure if they can't even order the prior medical charts, I don't want to trust them to administer the right dose of vaccines for my girls, and certainly no surgeries god forbid. Bottom line, I didn't feel comfortable leaving my girls in their hands. I wouldn't recommend them. Read Less

I want to start telling you that my experience was 4 years ago, I am not even sure the same doctor is still with the staff (I do hope she is not) and wanted to of why I never took my dog there again. We always love Petsmart for the toys and classes for our dog (we still do). It sounded very convenient to also take him to the vet there as well.My first impression:About the staff: I really liked them, they were very helpful, really gave us attention and to our dog as well. When outside we were talking to another customer that mentioned that certain days of the week they have a really good vet, so I should try to schedule the days he was in.Anyways, we kind of let it go but a week or so after that, our dog got some itchy spots and I call them and they try to schedule me for the next day, I knew it was last minute and understood if they couldn't schedule him.  Well, long story short: we got there at 4:30pm, they put us in another room, left us there for almost an hour, when my husband went to complain you could see it that someone forgot us there. We saw the same doctor again (luck day I guess :/) she, again, looked afraid of dogs, and after a while told us that we should give some medication to calm our dog (???) the poor thing was laying down on the metal table not even looking at her!!It was my first time seeing a vet that was afraid of dogs! They tell you what you need to know to keep your pet healthy, but they don't try to sell you a bunch of stuff you don't need.  I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes.  Front desk staff is very friendly and attentive. Would highly recommend the plan that they offer - you pay a low monthly rate that covers all visits, vaccines, and preventative care.  I can be paranoid when it comes to the puppy's health - if he coughs or even walks differently than normal I get scared that something is wrong. The monthly plan allows me to get him checked on even for the smallest of things, and the doctor is always very patient and understanding. Read Less

Read Less

Take your cat somewhere they know the basic anatomy of a cat's paw. Read Less

my dog got hurt at this banfield. i brought him for his 6 month comprehensive. when i got him back he started urinating blood. the urine also became very fishy smelling. and he was in pain. i took him straight to the ER. apparently during his comprehensive at banfield, the way his urine was obtained, caused  trauma to his bladder. a tube was either placed through his penis incorrectly or a needle was inserted through that lower pelvic region to the bladder and was done incorrectly. my poor dog. tests done on my dog at the ER showed blood clots in his bladder from bleeding and also a urinary tract infection (UTI), (twice by the way) hence the fish smell. I tried Banfield years ago and the experience was horrible. Thought I would try them again and the same result that I got in the late 90's always an up sell . They care more about what they can con you into spending because they know you love your pet and want the best for them. I brought my dog here and was given a antibiotic which was 45.00 plus the vet fee which totaled 120.00for my pet to sit in a cage for 6 hrs and be stressed out by the staff. I called several times to check on her and she had not been seen by they vet . I finally went and got her and drove to Jacksonville to her prior vet and got awesome service without having my dog sitting in a crate waiting for someone to attend to her. They dnt even take the dogs out while they are there. I do not recommend Banfield at all. They are very commercialized and have no empathy or compassion for you or your pet. Read Less

Read Less

We have 3 dogs that we take to Banfield Pet Hospital and we have had nothing but great experiences each time we have taken them in, whether it is for their regular check up's or unexpected illness. They are all on the Wellness Program which has saved us thousands of dollars over the past few years. I see other clients complain about the upselling. They do give you all of the options available for your pet, and it can be overwhelming, but you do not have to accept everything they show you. We were in a bad financial situation when one of our dogs became very ill. The vet understood our situation and helped us with a treatment plan that was budget friendly and helped our girl get better. I tell everyone to take their pets here.

I felt like I was dealing with a used car salesman.. You need this and that and this and that. And we have this wellness plan. Doesn't really feel like they care about the animals at all only about how deep they can venture into your pockets. I took my cat in for an bad tooth and they want almost $700 to resolve the issue. ARE YOU KIDDING ME! The girl kept saying well you need to do this and you need to do that. Adding a bunch of procedures that weren't necessary I tried to explain to her that I'm on a budget and just want my little boy out of pain. But nooooooooo She kept insisting that we needed all these extras I'm surprised she didn't try to sell me window tinting!!!!! So just the visit and some antibiotics cost $80. I didn't feel like they cared about the kids only the money.... I'm not going to take my little boy back there I will find someplace else and I suggest the same for everyone.Read Less

Read Less

Read Less
