This review is in two parts. One is for the Emergency side, and the other is for the Specialty side. I won't go into costs for either area, because emergency vet and specialty vet services are just expensive. You're going to pay more for an emergency plumber, veterinarian, A/C repair, it's just life. And you're going to pay more for a Specialist, someone who's had extensive additional education and training. Hopefully you never need the emergency vet or a specialist.I'll start with the good- The Specialty side. Having had experience with the Cardiologist and Oncologist side of Blue Pearl, I can say the staff and vets in those areas are super nice, knowledgeable and professional. I have no problem using Blue Pearl for these services in the future. The bad- The ER. Now, the techs and front desk at the ER are nice, for the most part, and seem to care. The actual vets......I have some issues. We've had several run-ins we didn't care for. One- our diabetic cat had a sudden crash in blood sugar. We knew he was diabetic, but weren't up to speed yet on how to handle a crash, we took him to BP. they tested his sugar and it was dangerously low. We were offered thousands of dollars of treatments and diagnostics, and opted to just get him some IV glucose, because, duh, he's diabetic and needed glucose. The vet at BP reacted to our decision as if we'd signed his death warrant. (Now we can test him at home, and know if its low, we feed him, use honey or syrup on his gums, etc. until he can get to the regular vet.) That incident wasn't cheap. Also, we took in our cat for breathing issues related to cancer. We knew the problem and had Oncology scheduled, and the Vet on duty seemed to be strongly encouraging euthanasia, like that night. When we declined it, I got the impression that we were being judged to make our baby suffer (he was not suffering at that time, our own vet assured us). If we had followed their advice, we would have missed out on precious memories and time with our kitty. Finally, we took in a senior cat with newly diagnosed kidney issues who was in pain. He needed a transfusion. It was 5 a.m. Our vet opens at 7. We just wanted to do whatever it took to get him to 7 a.m. The vet at BP gave us numerous, ridiculous excuses as to why we couldn't have the transfusion (that they said we needed). They ranged from: BP only had one bag of cat blood (not my problem), they would need to type his blood to see if it matched (ok, so, go do that then), we had to approve $4,000 or other treatments/diagnostics before they would do it (or we could start with a transfusion, we begged), our vet wouldn't be there at 7 (how the hell does she know?), our vet probably didn't have the equipment to handle diagnostics (again, let's get to 7 a.m. please), they didn't want to start a transfusion because SHIFT CHANGE was coming (this one makes me rage.)We stepped outside and discussed his actual symptoms, and what would we do if the vet we trusted had said them to us. We did make the decision to say goodbye, but felt awful about it, thanks to this veterinarian with a horrible demeanor. We felt like our hands were tied. We asked over and over again for the transfusion. We were given stupid excuses over and over. What options did we have? At Blue Pearl, ER Euthanasia Central, there was only one. We were devastated. Our regular vet talked to us later in the day and eased our fears, but you know what would have been better? If the vet we were right in front of at BP would have at least TRIED to accommodate us, or done more than just say NO and try to convince us that a CKD (kidney) cat wasn't worth saving (his CKD was being treated and not a quality of life problem), even if for just a few hours. People like that don't need to be around animals or other humans. TL,DR; When our pets needed simple treatment, they wanted to sell us the world or put them down. When we begged for treatment, we were refused for not a single good reason, except the vet on duty didn't want to do it without a $4,000 commitment up front. In the future, if there is time, I will drive right past BP emergency and head to Tampa Bay Emergency Vet on Bearss, which I have heard good things about. You might want to do the same. Read Less
