I have been coming here for years and absolutely love it. My dogs are, of course, terrified of the vet. Each time we come here, no matter who’s working, my dogs are pet and hugged by staff all the way through their examinations. Dr. Kumar regularly references the specifics of previous visits when either I or my wife bring in our dogs. When they’re sick, he provides a number of different options for treatment, always detailing the specifics of what he recommends and why, and these recommendations are usually to not over-react and over-pay for excessive treatment. Under the care of this vet, my pets always leave happy and healthy. Just this morning, I could tell that one of my dogs was developing an ear infection. When I took her in, Dr. Kumar immediately confirmed my suspicions and provided her with some affordable medicine. He told me how often to use the ear wash I had at home without trying to sell me additional product. Now, I’m watching my dog play with her toys without trying to claw her ear out. I wanted to write a review today after all these years just out of the appreciation I have for Dr. Kumar and his staff. It’s so reassuring to know that my pets are in the hands of such loving, trustworthy, professional people. Read Less

This place shouldn't be an option for any animal! The staff have no manners, no empathy and no knowledge. A cat was hit by a car, in pain and not able to stand on its hind legs from injuries. I brought the cat into the office and first thing I got was a stare from the receptionist. Not a "hello," not a "May I help you." Secondly, a very very young tech came to me and whispered to follow her. No introduction or questions asked. Mind you, I was nervous for the poor cat. As the tech took the carrier from me she bumped it on the metal table. She began to laugh, hiding her giggles in her sleeve and rolling her eyes at the other tech. Yes, there were 3 of them. All equally rude. I had advised the tech that the cat was in pain but she pulled her out of the carrier and tried to make the cat stand up. I had already mentioned she couldn't walk. Then another tech tried! The Dr walked in, introduced himself and saw what the techs were doing. Then, to my surprise he attempted to get the cat to stand. During this episode of torture the poor cat was wailing in pain. One tech pulled the cats head back. I had HAD it! I asked if there was anything they could do to help the cat. The doctor said no! WTF!!! Am I not at a veterinary clinic? By the way, did I mention Animal Coalition of Tampa sent me here?Because it was later in the afternoon? I ended up at Bayside Veterinary Specialist where they were friendly, emphatic and most helpful to a cat in a lot of pain. The vet had informed me of her thoughts of injuries and how they could help. Not so hard! Huh!?? My advice, DON'T EVEN TAKE AN INJURED ROACH TO THIS PLACE for care because they are CLUELESS and lack empathy for animals. No joke. Read Less

I have to say that I am very please with Dr Kumar. He was very caring with our two dogs. He is a good hearted man who really cares of the well being of your pet. The little one was not eating for several days. He was bony. The Dr discovered he has an eye ulcer, and was most likely not eating because of pain. He answered all our questions, and he made sure we did not leave without really understanding the frequency and the exact way the treatment needed to be done. Thank you Dr. Kumar, Junior has made a great recovery, and has gained weight again. The eye infection is gone, and the eye should heal soon. The cost is fair. Right on! Read Less

Worst place ever I do not recommend this place at all. I took my dog to this clinic because he was vomiting a lot and was very sick and dehydrated the first time the vet did what he was supposed to gave him medicine and did some blood work to see what was going on when we went back to go over the results he literally told me that my dog was going to die to basically put him to sleep that he had kidney failure. I was devastated so I decided to take him to the Hospital blue pearl and there he had X-ray done and it turn out to be a piece of corn cub stuck in his intestines surgery was done to remove it and now he is doing well. do NOT bring your pets here. My dog was having a very severe skin infection and I brought him to this vet thinking they would tell us what he had. The vet here barely examined my dog and then they gave him a shot on the wound. When we went to checkout they charged us $100 which is WAY more than we expected. The vet also told us that the infected area would turn into an open wound leaving a hole in his back which will need surgery. A few weeks went by and the shot which was supposed to clean up his infection within a week or two didnt work AT ALL. This was the biggest waste of $100. Two months after I took my dog to the Humane Society and my dog was given a treatment of creams and medications and my dog recovered like nothing had ever happened to him. There were no open wounds left and no surgery needed. Point of the story is.. do NOT come to this vet unless you want to waste your time and money. I much rather recommend your local Humane Society. If I could leave zero stars I would. We took our dog in for an allergic reaction to some tapeworm pills. She was vomiting, having frequent bowel movements and breaking out in hives. Prior to taking her in we called the 1800 number on the pill box and was told that her symptoms were almost definitely from an allergic reaction. We also called the Humane Society and had this confirmed. We decided to take her to Oak Tree because it had good reviews and we thought she'd be seen faster. Upon walking in the receptionist briefly listened to her symptoms before rather rudely snapping at us that those weren't symptoms of an allergic reaction and that the treatment for the vomiting alone would cost us $150-200. This rubbed us the wrong way seeing as she wasn't the vet but seemed to be dismissing our previous information and diagnosing our dog herself. Then when the vet walked in he gave us about two seconds to tell him her symptoms before cutting us off to tell us it wasn't from an allergic reaction also. We told him about calling the pill maker and the Humane Society and receiving the opposite diagnosis and he got irate with us and told us he couldn't help us and to take her to a specialist. Then he told us we wasted his time and told us to leave. It was very obvious that they were out to charge us as much as possible from the second we arrived before ever even examining our dog and that once they realized we had done our homework and wouldn't blindly swipe our credit card they didn't want to deal with us. We took her to another vet who actually listened to us and called the pill company and are giving her proper treatment. I would not bring any animal to the Oak Tree Animal Hospital unless you want to be swindled for every dime you have and given an improper diagnosis. They don't want to help animals. They want to fill their wallets. Read Less

We had been taking our dog Brisco to Dr. Kumar for 9 years for regular year exams and vaccinations, as well as flea and heartworm treatments. Brisco never had any major health issues. When Brisco was 10 years old, our groomer noticed a growth on Brisco’s side. We called Dr. Kumar to ask about it and Dr. Kumar said we would have to bring him in to be examined and advised there was probably nothing we could do at home. About 10 days later we took Brisco for his annual physical and shots. At this point Brisco had started scratching the lump so it had become a little irritated. Dr. Kumar recommended surgery to remove the mass. No explanation or concern was offered up. I didn’t know to ask for a biopsy or to even ask what he thought was wrong. The surgery was performed a few days later and when I picked Brisco up, no one was there to offer any information. They simply took my money and gave me my dog.About 6 weeks later I noticed Brisco was not having regular bowel movements, but we still eating and drinking and active. Within a few days, his appetite seemed to deteriorate and he started vomiting. I called Dr. Kumar and he said he was concerned about Brisco’s appetite and that I should bring him in.During this visit Dr. Kumar’s techs were examining Brisco and finding more small growths, which Dr. Kumar seemed to be focusing on this instead of the loss of weight and vomiting. His only comments were that he could remove some more of the growths and send them out for biopsy because it might be cancer. During this conversation he confirmed he never sent the original mass out and that “he should have done that”.I left without any treatment for Brisco’s immediate health issues. Upon the recommendation of our groomer, we took Brisco to a different vet for a second opinion. The new vet immediately gave Brisco IV fluids and took x-rays and bloodwork. They found his kidneys weren’t working and that he was in renal failure. Extraordinary care was provided for several days by two different vet clinics for several days, but we lost Brisco a few days later.I never felt Dr. Kumar listened when I tried to tell him what was going on with Brisco and at no point did he ever call to check on Brisco during this time. I feel he was more focused on cutting out growths and trying to rectify the fact he never checked for cancer months earlier. There was little to no communication. I’ll never know if Brisco had cancer and if the cancer led to his death, but I believe Dr. Kumar was negligent in his care of my dog. Read Less

Ok so this was our attempt at finding a new Vet in Tampa and we saw decent reviews on here. All I can say is, if you like your vet's office and workspace to be clean, do not go here. Also if you like friendly staff and a friendly Vet, do not go here. They were very impersonal and the Vet even told us that something was wrong with our Aussie because she didn't have a tail.... you would think that he would know they aren't supposed to have tails. We are still in shock about how dirty this place was. Needless to say, we won't be returning. Read Less

do NOT bring your pets here.

Read Less
