First visit with one of our dogs. Spoke with Brenda on the phone and explained we were new in town and needed to find a vet. I explained our one dog had been limping a few days and they actually had an opening the next day. Brenda was extremely kind and helpful while booking the appt. My dogs have all seen Dr. Amber Parker. She is, hands down, the best veterinarian I have ever come across! She communicates so well. No matter what the subject matter and how extensive her medical knowledge is, she always explains the "what, why, how" of any condition and services so that we feel we are doing the absolute best for our pets. Her personable disposition is always refreshing for me - and more importantly my pets ;). They love her! She is very genuine! I would definitely recommend this practice as a whole. They have many awesome veterinarians and highly trained staff. They even have an excellent small animal and cat building separate from the dog building. They are my local vet, and I trust them with my cats, so that says a lot! (I spoil them rotten). They have a separate cat clinic which is usually quieter than the main building which helps with cats' anxiety about the vet. The vet techs are great with my cats, and the vets give ample time towards actual time spent with your pet and are more than happy to answer any questions that you have in regards to your pet's health and preventative measures (flea meds, etc.). Wonderful vets, wonderful staff. They will take excellent care of your pet. They also have an emergency clinic open in the evenings and on weekends. If you are on a budget they do the best they can to accommodate while still providing top notch care, and they work with CareCredit so if you need a payment plan and have reasonable credit that option is available. They have really taken amazing care of my kitties, and their doctors and techs are kind and compassionate people who truly love animals. I have been to an emergency clinic before that was not like the one they provide, but instead it was staffed by emotionless people unlike this clinic which is staffed with positive, friendly and caring people, and the difference is like night and day. They see both dogs and cats, and have a special cat clinic and a kitty waiting area so your kitty won't be too freaked out if a dog comes into the waiting room. Dr Authmonte is so nice and so is the staff. They took absolutely amazing care of my kitty and fixed his bladder infection and thyroid imbalance. And they even sang to him too! This clinic is great and it has reasonable prices. I recently moved and needed a new vet. I've been on the urgent care after hours for an allergy reaction and normal hours for annual check up and vaccines. The vets are very knowledgeable and clear with everything they need to tell you. They are efficient and all the staff is super nice. The only thing I didn't like is that for both of my visits (1st urgent care and 2nd last appointment of the day) I felt like they were rushing to just get done with me. Some people may not care but I'm super involved in my dogs and to me they are more like babies so I appreciate it when they take the time to make the visit more personal and the vet acts more personal with my dogs€. In both occasions with both different vets I felt like they were in a rush to care for my dogs as quick as possible so they could go. I've never been on normal time so maybe if I picked another appointment that wasn't urgent or end of the day the experience would be better on that aspect. Other than that I do recommend the clinic and will keep taking my dogs there for now. Read Less

I applaud the staff and veterinarians of Veterinary Medical Clinic for all the expertise, care and love they have given to my dogs. One in particular is my youngest pup who was on the verge of dying. Most of the team have been involved in getting my baby back to life again. I received calls throughout my pups journey of getting her health back. I was looking for a vet open late to provide a little peace of mind about my pet issue. I decided to call based on the incredibly high ratings and they definitely live up to the hype! I wanted to talk to someone about my cat who was experiencing UTI symptoms but I didn't feel was improving after seeing another local vet. I went in with my 6 yr old, 3.5lb chihuahua who was feeling sick and throwing up. I was sick worried to know what was wrong with her. I came to this vet and they gave me the answers i needed to know. I am beyond thankful for the friendly and attentive after-hours team at VMC. We hadn't found a vet in the area yet, so when my dog started exhibiting some pretty alarming gastrointestinal symptoms, I was incredibly nervous about going somewhere new, unannounced. We walked into VMC without an appointment, and were very quickly seen by a vet tech who was SO great with both the nervous dog and dog-mom ;) On-site lab tests were far more reasonable than I had braced myself for (I believe the consult was $89 and the labs were $49, which included the urgent care surcharge - the main services are cheaper during their regular business hours.) And, without even having to ask, I was offered both name-brand and generic meds, with no judgment at all from the staff about wanting to keep the cost of the visit as reasonable as possible while still getting the necessary care for my pup. The vet who went over the lab results and treatment options with me took his time to explain what the issue was, what might have caused it, and what to watch for in the future. While we were there, he also gave me some tips for the flea allergy my dog seemed to develop out of nowhere in the last few months. Based on reviews, we drove over an hour to this clinic for emergency treatment for our chihuahua. We were exceptionally pleased with our choice to do so. The entire staff was knowledgeable, friendly, and caring. Explanations were clear, concise, and all questions were answered professionally. I don't usually write reviews but I felt like I should in this case. A few days ago my cat was vomiting throughout the day and broke out in a terrible rash. Considering we rarely have had any problems with him, we were extremely concerned something might be very wrong. I felt terrible being that person bringing my cat in less than an hour before they closed. However, they were extremely kind and professional to my boyfriend and I the entire time. They went out of their way to answer any questions we had and since visiting, my cat has slowly been getting back to his normal self. The veterinarian we saw was also extremely kind and helpful. Dr. Parker is amazing. She was the only doctor who properly diagnosed my dog who at the time was very sick from cancer. She went well beyond and contacted me even after hours and on the weekends to check on him and to see if there was anything we needed. She came in on her day off to see him and tried to make those last few weeks as comfortable as possible for him and for myself. I will never take my pets to see anyone other than Dr. Parker. I am a registered nurse. My 1 year old golden retriever got attacked by a dog at a dog park and had 2 very deep puncture sites. I cannot explain how professional, friendly, and efficient this clinic and staff was. They took my dog in immediately, made my dog feel comfortable (she was very scared), told me exactly what needed to be done, explained the prices, and asked for my permission regarding all care. Wow - what a great staff.  After a horrible visit to a completely different after-hours clinic, I came here at the recommendation of our normal vet.  The veterinarian on duty that day (since I came during After Hours Urgent Pet Care) was straightforward and reassuring.  She didn't push for unnecessary or excessive care but instead stated the minimum that would be required and what would be considered "overkill."  Throughout the entire visit, I was given total peace of mind that I was in the right place.  The rest of the vet technicians and reception were awesome.  I was doubly impressed that two techs came out at different times as I was checking out to give extra clear guidance on how to help my pet the next few days.  Their earnest care totally won me over.  You can tell that every staff member there is passionate about their job.  I absolutely recommend them as an After Hours clinic for emergency care! Two nights ago, my 16 year old very healthy cat had a stroke right in front of me. We rushed him to the vet, and unfortunately, the worst prognosis was given. Our sweet little boy had to be euthanized. The after-hours staff was so comforting to our cat and to us during such a traumatizing and devastating time. And, the ladies at the front desk are super friendly. They have always been completely transparent about pricing and the steps you need to take in order to get your pet better. Friday night I noticed my dog's ears were inflamed. I cleaned and dried them hoping they would be better in the morning or at least good enough to wait until Monday for a vet visit. By 9pm on Saturday night she was visibly uncomfortable and the stench was horrible! I called Veterinary Medical Clinic and asked how much an exam would cost. For after hours it's $89 which is pretty close to the prices at all emergency vets. Except this place is near my house! The office was very clean and everyone was very nice! My dog was seen right away. They took a swab and tested her ears. Then they cleaned and treated them. It was a little pricey but no more than I typically spend on a visit with an emergency vet. Within an hour she was 50% better and by morning she was acting like herself again! Wish they were open 24 hours instead of just until 11pm (because of course my dog would be the one who eats a box of chocolates at 11:01 pm) but happy they are in the neighborhood!! Read Less

We are PCSing on Saturday (military move). We have lived in 10 different cities throughout the world, and Tampa has not been our favorite duty station.  However, I feel compelled to share one of the highlights of our experience. It is our vet care. We arrived two years ago with a 16 year old pug that lived more places than most humans. She followed us around and when it was time to cross the rainbow bridge, there was nothing better than VMC.  Between referrals and "VIP" phone calls to Dr. Wolf for eye care and sending us on our way because we were too distraught to deal with "closing out our bill" this place is top notch. Since then, we have a new pug (and our "old" Boston Terrier) and, again, we have never received such sincere care as that which we received at VMC. While pricier than your average vet, the clinic is one of few clinics that are members of the American Animal Hospital Association - and worth every penny. If there is one thing I pass on to Tampa pet families, it is my experience and love for VMC. Read Less

First...expensive! Having said that, it was worth every penny. Our dogs got into a fight and my little bischon/poodle mix, Buttons, was injured. Dr. Gray was amazing. Everyone treated us wonderfully. This was our second time here, both emergency walk ins. I highly recommend Dr. Gray as a surgeon. Buttons bounced back and the actual incision was perfect. I felt she was cared for and when we went back today they remembered her. Over the last few years my girlfriend and I have been bringing her Yorkie O'Brien here for some allergy related care. Everyone at this office, for the most part, is very nice and caring. The reason I'm leaving this review is because O'Brien was truly suffering from these allergies. She would scratch for hours straight, her skin was inflamed/oily, her hair was falling out from the constant scratching, and she smelled AWFUL. The doctors here would prescribe washing her with selson blue or head & shoulders and an oral medication that required a new prescription every 3 months. So after 8 or more trips to this vet at just under $200 a visit, we had put almost $2000 into helping O'Brien's allergy problem with close to no results. After a recommendation from a friend, we went to a different vet who seemed to actually care about O'Brien. He was shocked that our current vet hadn't recommended the monthly shot he was suggesting. After this $22 shot and a $8 bottle of specialty shampoo, O'Brien is like a new dog. Her hair has grown back, she rarely scratches and she is more happy than I have ever seen her. Moral of the story, this veterinary clinic was more concerned with the residual income being generated by their ineffective advice than the quality of life of our pet. It is sad that this is the case, but we will never bring a pet of ours back to this clinic. Find a vet who cares more about your animal than the income being generated by them. We're heading back to our new vet today, with a happy and healthy O'Brien and wish we could have found this option sooner. For our wallet's sake as well as O'Brien's. Read Less

Phenomenal feline care. Wish all of my personal medical encounters were so satisfactory. Had a missing cat and posted a sign in their lobby because they are near my home. They were very sympathetic and supportive and made room for my flyer on an already crowded display board. Days later I was walking through their parking lot after dark still searching for my cat. Another cat wandered out of the shadows and would not quit following me. I walked into their after-hours emergency office and the staff immediately introduced me to "Maven," who has apparently adopted their office as his home. Good to know that cat is not homeless and has a lot of good care. When I finally found my cat I immediately rushed over there without even calling and asked if they could examine her for any injuries, fleas or signs of sickness. Within minutes they had her on the exam table and checked her out. They even scanned her chip just to make sure it was working.I was not an existing client yet they made me feel like like I was a valued client. They took their time, asked a lot of questions and genuinely seemed to be happy that I had successfully reunited with my pet. Read Less

First, I would like to start out saying that if you have an emergency and you need an after hours vet, please don't hesitate taking your pet here. They will take good care of them, period.The reason that I give them 3 stars is that I always feel like they are finding additional things to hike the bill up. I understand that there are some things that need to be handled but please stop telling me what else is wrong with my dog. I came here for a reason, please help with that and I will handle the rest at another time if it is not urgent. Also, please remember that your clients can hear everything you say - the walls are fairly thin. "tell her this" "show her that", OR that  the only way to know xyx is to do xyz for a "couple bucks more". When I left I felt completely guilty and a little upset that they made me feel that way (still am, actually).All I am saying is to be cautious of your bill, before you know it, it will be 500.00 and you aren't sure what you paid for. Note to management - we love our animals and the last thing we need is for you to make us feel guilty because we didn't have this test or buy that product. People are going to turn to other places that don't feel like you are pushing products or unnecessary procedures. Read Less

10/31/2012: I brought in a dog that I was puppy-sitting during the after-hours urgent care and was seen right away with no wait. The staff was compassionate and took great care of the dog and was very informative for me. She ended up only needing her nail trimmed, and they didn't even charge me. They are wonderful!4/18/2013: I adopted a dog of my own in January from Hillsborough County Animal Shelter who was heartworm positive. Dr. Jennifer Authement and the staff at VMC have been incredible throughout this treatment! I know my dog is well taken care of when I have to leave him for part of the day. Dr. Authement has checked in on my dog's progress throughout the HW treatment to make sure he is as comfortable as possible and is always available for questions! I also like that they have urgent care hours in the event of an emergency they have all of my dog's records. Read Less

Having multiple pets, I understand the importance of a reliable, knowledgeable and understanding veterinary.  My initial impression was very positive, but after multiple visits and a crap load of money later, I am weary of their product pedaling.  No one seems to give you an upfront answer and when questioning a recommended procedure or product you are basically told, "Because we said so."  While waiting for services, I've chatted with another client or two and sensed a similar level of frustration. Bottom Line:  In some areas they are great about cutting costs, but AGGRESSIVELY push vaccines, boosters and other products despite vocalizing hesitation. (When I questioned the effectiveness of a dental booster I was told they weren't 100% sure it would even work, but argued they wouldn't recommend a product if they didn't think it was beneficial.  Again, why should I spend the money?  "Well, it's only a couple hundred dollars." hmmmm) Needless to say they attempt to make you feel guilty if you don't use the product or procedure they recommend.
