My 24 year old fur baby was suffering and I had to do the unselfish thing and let her cross the rainbow bridge. I first called Advanced veterinary hospital and the person (by the name of Kim) on the other end of the phone was lacking in compassion! She said “ I can fit you in tomorrow at 4”. Now I am hysterical Having to make this call in the first place, but now I have to do it all over again! And the lack of compassion and empathy made me wonder how she even had the job that she has! So I called Tarpon animal hospital. I’m sorry I didn’t get the name of the wonderful girl that answered the phone, I just want to let everyone know what compassion and understanding I was shown and the wonderful girl that did the footprints for me! I have to say I was extremely pleased with my visit today. I brought my 1 year old German Shepherd Layla in for her first visit since switching vet offices. The doctor and staff were wonderful, and so very patient with my two rambunctious toddlers. The staff were so great with Layla, and she never once seemed scared or nervous, she stayed relaxed which for me shows a lot. Layla will definitely be a patient here for the long run. We have been taking Max to Tarpon Animal Hospital for about 3 years now. Each visit is wonderful. Dr Abbate (and the other docs) are great. The entire staff is so loving and friendly. They all take the time to explain things, and treat us with total respect. We never feel rushed, and I like how they show you the estimate before any procedures so you can decide what you can afford. I had a very positive experience at Tarpon Animal Hospital when I brought my dog, Lola, in for suspected ear infection. The reception was welcoming, and the animal care techs and the veterinarian were all very friendly, comfortable, and confident while examining Lola to make a diagnosis. I found this Animal Hospital on Groupon , only $19 for a full exam.  The staff & Dr were so friendly and competent!  We got a rabies shot & distemper shot for my cat as well as a license. U cat was relaxed & did not even cry when he got the shots , he was purring! They treated him better than I have been treated ion s Dr office!  Also thoroughly answered  all our questions . this is absolutely our Vet from now on & I would definitely recommend them! Read Less

We brought in our bearded dragon Daisy because she was not eating or moving a lot and the staff there were fantastic. They were all so very nice from the girl at the desk who checked me in, the vet assistant that took us back and did the pre questions for the doctor to the doctor herself. All very nice and professional and can tell they love what they do. The doctor gave us options based on what we can afford and even gave us a print out on everything pertaining to care for Daisy since there are ALOT of different websites that say different ways to care for them. Tarpon Animal Hospital is the best vet in Florida ! Dr.Cunningham is absolutely amazing! We have taken our dog Kush numerous times and recently he had gotten into poison , we almost lost him but Tarpon Animal acted fast and they got my baby boy back on his feet and i am forever thankful ! Every time i have any issues with my dog , they always are available to answer my questions , suggest options , or manage to get us an appt quick . Such a friendly environment with super friendly and knowledgeable staff , they always make you feel welcome , and i feel like they have such a great relationship with my dog , he actually gets super excited to go and see them ! My little dogs Brownie and Gizmo and I had a very positive experience at the Tarpon Animal Hospital. Brownie was showing signs of arthritis and and the doctor gave him medication to help protect his joints. After only 3 days of taking it he is already showing signs of improvement. The same is true of meds she gave to Gizmo for a skin condition. Both dogs were very frightened at first but the doctor and her aides put them at ease quickly and were very careful in handling my precious furry family members. We've just relocated to the area. I researched online and TAH seemed to have everything we needed so I stopped by before setting at appointment. I was greeted with a friendly staff who understood my concerns. Upon my departure they immediately contacted my previous Vet of 20 years to gather the details of our pets. My first visit with Dr Salazar was great. She had already reviewed the files and asked a lot of questions to gather additional details. I went to the hospital today of my first time. My dog is aggressive with other dogs, so the stuff give me a private waiting room. And then I find out I forgot my credit card, they still very nice to me(I did solve the problem). I just want say the doctor and stuff are wonderful. The doctors and nurses there couldn't have been more professional or caring, my only wish is that I had taken her there sooner because she would probably still be with us. As with other reviewers, I used to love bringing our pets for years. We spent alot of money there over the years between exams and boarding. The fact you denied my dog medical care cause (and I quote) "been fired" from taking my pets to your practice is a joke and all over a bottle of conditioner, that I was told I could come and pick up at any time. Again, there was no reason to bring a healthy dog to your practice just to pick up a bottle of conditioner that I was told I could pick up at any time. Again, its conditioner. If you have a problem with me, the adult and proper thing to do would be to pull me aside and address this like adults and NOT deny my dog medical care! Your lack of concern has not gone unnoticed and I will proceed to address this accordingly. If that is the reputation you want your practice to have, by all means go for it. Sad and heartless. I have taken my business and boarding elsewhere and I would advise others as well. Sounds like Dorinda is bad for business!Read Less

I recently moved to the Holiday/New Port Richey area and have been in search of a Vet that I felt would give their all to my pets. I have seen a few and had no luck until I arrived at Tarpon Animal Hospital. The staff and the techs and the doctor are wonderful. The doctor listened to my concerns regarding my 2.5 lb. kitten, Wally. She answered every question and she didn't rush. She went over his lab results in a language that I could understand. I used to absolutely love this place and have gone there for years. Unfortunately the last couple visits have been very frustrating, and the most recent boarding experience was horrible. Still, that alone wouldn't prompt me to write a bad review. It's the lack of concern for the problems, no follow up when calls were promised, and no attempt at a resolution that prompted this review, along with the fact that my dog came back sick and no one had even noticed. I had boarded my cat and dog there last week. They lost the cat's blanket (which was very important to him) and his collar with rabies tag. At first they tried telling me that he didn't come in with either, then agreed that he had, but they couldn't find them. Twice I was promised a phone call by Dorinda who would help take care of it. No call ever came. I went there in person, and they couldn't offer anything for the lost items, or the fact that I now had to spend to get a new tag. When I asked for a new tag, I was simply told I'd need to go to the county for one. Worse than losing the cat's things and doing nothing about it, though, is when my dog came out she was hacking terribly. I asked about it, and people in the waiting room even commented on it, and the attendant simply said "oh, I thought that was normal for her." No, it's not normal, and if there wasn't so much staff turnover in the back they would have known. Under any circumstance, someone should have at least called me to discuss her rather than letting her sit there sick. I thought that by boarding at the vet she would get attention if she had medical needs. The only attention they gave her was to put a cone on to keep her from chewing on her front feet from stress. I never see Sal there anymore. When I asked to talk to him, I was told he's out of town and doesn't come in anymore. The old medical staff is gone, and there are new people now. The front office staff are truly wonderful, and I will miss them very much, but it's time to move on.Read Less

I took my two cats in for their yearly checkups and vaccinations: what a great experience!! In fact, we were treated better there than when I used to take the kids to the pediatrician! My original vet was an hr from my home but I adored him. Sadly he retired so time to find a new one. This hospital is 5 min from my home so I gave it a shot. The 1st visit was for my chihuahua with hypothyroidism. This visit went OK and I got the meds from them. The 2nd visit was for my cat (age 16) with severe skin allergies. As we're discussing what's been said throughout the years and things tried I noticed the vet had begun to smirk which eventually turns into a blatant snarky grin as though I was saying the dumbest things she'd heard. I asked if I was amusing her in some way? It would have been more polite for her just to call me a jackass and get it over with. It was extremely rude. By the end of the appointment, it was OK but not a good impression. Yesterday I called because my chi needed his script refilled. Prior to calling, I'd called Walmart pharmacy to see if they carried it and the price. They did for $13. AWESOME! When I called TAH, I was told that there MIGHT be a fee of $15-$25 for the script! What?! She said she'd check but since they have meds there for convenience they have a fee "she thinks." They called me today and left a message to tell me the script had been written but no mention of fee. I thought great! Must've been wrong. Nope. I went to pick it up and they tried to charge me $15! She said since they have an in house pharmacy that they charge. I told her that they're charging literally 3x more for the same med. ($34) She said that's their policy. I told her they just lost a client because NEVER in all my years of pet ownership (40years) have I had a vet charge me for writing a prescription. On top of that, any vet that cares about clients would suggest getting it at a human pharmacy to save cost. I've even had them help look for coupons. THAT is how you treat your clients, not nickel and dimeing them. They already charge out the wazoo! Very disappointing.Read Less

This is a wonderful place. So caring. Very good with animals. I had a groupon and That is whyI went and I am very happy I did. Tarpon Animal Hospital is the friendliest vet clinic i've ever been to. They care for your dogs as if they were their own. The quality of their care is impeccable. I had my dog neutered here and Dr Collins did a great job. They called after to see how Briggs was doing and a free follow up was included. Briggs was so happy to see her which is always a good sign with dogs. I'd recommend this clinic to anyone in the Tampa area. Read Less

Their prices are a little high but they have always worked with me to make sure the 5 Huskys I have had over the past 5 years of going to them have received the best care possible!! The girls there have always been very nice nice and accommodating to all my needs regarding making appts, getting us into a room quickly so we are not stuck out in the waiting room for very long, and allowing me to assist them to ease my fur babies from any fear or discomfort they may have to endure during their visit. I have only had to take two of my animals here before. The first one was my old cat Rocky. Rocky was a stray my grandma had found and adopted, and was just in bad shape. Before he died we took him here to get checked out when she was living with me. Rocky had feline AIDS, so it was very important to be careful with him.
