We have been going to Bloomingdale Animal Hospital for as long as we have had dogs, 10+ years, for their low prices and location convenience. But after the way they treated an emergency situation, we will NEVER go there again. I don't know if it was lack of education on their part or lack of care, but either way, I will never trust them with my animals again. We have a miniature Dachshund who is 10 years old and one morning woke up screaming crying in pain, I rushed her to the vet right away and they took blood work, exams, and gave me anti inflammatory medicine and pain killers. After paying an arm and a leg, they told me they have no idea what's wrong with her and to check back in after a week. A few days later her pain was getting worse and not better, so I rushed her back in to get re-examined. After paying another arm and a leg, they told me it could be cancer but they are not completely sure, and she might have to be put down and just upped the medication and sent me on my way. Thank goodness my Dachshund got worse over the weekend, because this place was unavailable so I rushed her to the ER Vet Blue Pearl, where within minutes they diagnosed her with a COMMON DACHSHUND DISEASE CALLED IVDD. They immediately got her on the correct medication and treatment process and within weeks my dachshund was better, happy, and healthy. BLOOMINGDALE ANIMAL HOSPITAL TOLD ME SHE MIGHT DIE- and if they would have accurately diagnosed her the first time she would have been better weeks earlier instead of sitting in unimaginable pain. They either didn't care about my dachshunds life and wanted the extra money, didn't know a common disease which worries me about their overall education, or didn't take the time to genuinely care about my dachshunds pain. Our first and only vet here in Florida. A good reception staff, vet techs are excellent and so amazing with my dogs, and most importantly the vets themselves are top notch. The vets are extremely personable and knowledgeable and will make sure you feel comfortable and know what their doing. If you're new to the area or have been here a while and are looking for a new vet I HIGHLY recommend Bloomingdale Animal Hospital. My mom had to have our family dog put down today suddenly. It was a tough decision for her and she was distraught all day over her decision. She seems to have been taking our dog to this hospital for a while and says she has always had a good experience with Dr. Duvall, so taking our dog here today was an easy decision, considering she would be with someone she already knew and trusted. Unfortunately today Dr. Duvall wasn't in and instead the male vet (Dr. Ramirez?) was handling the situation. Long story short my mom was presented with the unfortunate situation of spending a large sum of money for a surgery that may not work (granted this was advice given from a relative in the same field, not the vet) or putting the dog down. She called multiple people before making the decision and decided it was our pups time to go. Afterwards, I spent all day with her reassuring her through all of the guilt she felt from her decision. No one wants to put their dog down but no one certainly wants to receive judgment or a lack of compassion from their vet when the decision is made to do so. I am disappointed that someone could be so seemingly cold in such a tough circumstance. I understand as a vet you aren't anyones therapist and that it is hard on both accounts, but I really wish I could have been there to recommend her to get a second opinion, or at least be guided bysomeone who was more caring. It breaks my heart that she felt pressured to do the surgery and then judged when she decided against it. Having to feel like you're a bad person to your dog on top of seeing them in pain unexpectedly is something no one should have to deal with. I must say upon return. I did talk with the Doctor she apologized and will work with her team to avoid any conflict. I do trust her and feel so much better. Bringing my dog here for over 2 years and I keep her up to datte on every single shot she needs, heartworm prevention, flea and tick prevention. I'm heading out of town and I went in to get one heartworm preventive to hold my dog over until I get back and I was refused to get one month supply insisting I come in for a vet visit. I have no problem paying for a vet visit what I have a problem with is it they would not work with me until I got back into town very disappointing I will be looking for another veterinarian. I have a miniature pinscher that is older than Methuselah.  He has barely any teeth left and every year or so they get kinda stinky and need to be cleaned.  Every time we move to a new city I have to find a new vet who will clean my dog's stinky teeth without charging me an arm and a leg.  I sat down and made a list of 16 veterinarians in Brandon, Valrico, Riverview, and Tampa and called every one of them to get a quote. This place was the lowest price, so I made an appointment.  My appointment was for 11/15/17 and they instructed me to drop the dog off between 7AM and 8:30AM.  They advised me not to feed him for 12 hours before the procedure.  I showed up at about 7:45 and I signed in on a clipboard at the front desk.  They had me fill out a form, and then I was taken back to an exam room to speak with a technician.  He went over my dog's medical records and helped me get my dog updated on his shots.  Then he took  my dog from me and said the office will call when he's ready, probably by 3pm he said.  The office itself is nothing special...it's got some pretty horrible wallpaper and looks like it was decorated in 1995.   The exam room has a pretty funky smell...sort of like dog treats mixed with urine.  They could use some cleaning and updates but overall the facilities are adequate. So I left and went to run some errands.  Pretty soon after that I got a call from the doctor...she said she was already done with my dog's teeth and I could pick him up any time after 11.  I thought that was really nice that they got him done early.  I showed up at about 11:30AM and let the front desk know why I was there and they took me back to an exam room.  The technician who helped clean his teeth explained the aftercare instructions to me and gave me some antibiotics.  After that she brought my dog to me.  His teeth were super clean and he looked like he was doing well.  I went to pay and the total was $292.  It was $49.50 for the exam, $174.50 for the dental cleaning, & the rest was for a rabies shot and the antibiotics.  That sounds like a lot but all the other places I called STARTED at $400 and went all the way up to $800.  It's nice to find a vet that isn't trying to rip people off.  The day after they called and asked how my dog was doing which I thought was very nice.  I am very pleased with this vet and will continue to visit them in the future for all my needs. Dr. Buck killed my cat. He had a urinary blockage and I took him in to see what needed to be done to save him. I had no idea that would be the last time I would see my baby. I should have known not to let him work on my baby when his hands were uncontrollably shaky. I was just distressed and scared and didn't process that someone who's hands are shaking either have a nerve disorder like Parkinson's are the shakes from drinking alcohol. Either way I look back now and should have said no. He told me my cat needed surgery so I agreed. Before I even got back home I got a phone call that my cat had died. When I went to call back they informed me Dr. Buck was on his lunch break. How did my cat die so quickly? It seems like all he was concerned about was getting his lunch break. I just feel like something like this could have been easily avoided. If you can't keep your hands still you shouldn't be performing surgery. This is a job to you but to me this was my baby and I will miss him forever. ** Apparently there's a new owner here and he keeps calling my phone asking me to take this review down because it could hurt his business? I'm sorry, I don't know how to delete it. I only have an option to edit.. if dr. Buck is retired then that's a good thing. Maybe change the name of the business so people don't associate the two. I like Dr. Ramirez but unfortunately the lady on the phone didn't told me all the fees to pay. I was told the price for the appointment plus the medication required from the dr. after checking my dogs. When I got there the lady told me I also had to pay $45 for a physical exam, something that was not in my budget because they never told me about it. I took my Yorkie there when I first moved down to Florida, she had stress colitis, they didn't do a bunch of nonsense tests.  He gave her an antibiotic and another medication for her stomach.   I left without having a million dollar bill.   Actually it was like 60 dollars. Okay so after going here I tried another spot(humane society tampabay) and i regret trying a new place everyday! This place is amazing!!! We've always brought out dogs here and now that I had a stray cat I brought it to them and they are so helpful and nice! Dr Ramirez is amazing with his patients and tries to find the most economical route for you I love it ! Not to mention one stray we found was battling for his life and he was able to cure him ! Two weeks later, our poor cat was sick. We called BAH and the staff worked us into the schedule the same day. Even so, we waited less than 10 minutes to be seen. Dr. Duvall is patient and understanding and she was able to care for our cranky elderly cat in such a way that the cat let it happen (which is much more impressive than it sounds). She and the staff at BAH took their time to get to the problem and clearly laid out options and recommendations. It is so nice to go somewhere that truly cares about the health and wellbeing of your furry family more than they care about making a buck. They called the next day to see how our cat was doing to determine the next step in her care, and the experience was just as good at the follow up appointment. My 17 year old cat had an abscess that came out of nowhere saw Dr. Ramirez he says let it pop and sends me home with 7 days of antibiotic.After it pops her eye on the side it popped gets droopy and her pupils are different sizes go to see Dr. Buck on a Friday he gives her a $50 antibiotic shot and says it is just a bad infection should be OK. My husband asks him will she loose eyesight in that eye? He assures us that she won't and we are on our way feeling good. Monday only 3 days after this her eye is cloudy and greenish goop in it. We rush he back and he says oh well not only has she lost sight in it she needs it out or you need to put her down. How much will that cost? $880 (Plus the cost of your recheck today). Are you kidding me? Needless to say we won't be going back! I hope he reads this thanks for costing Maddie her eye you quack!! Wish I could post pictures you would be horrified how bad it was.
