Went to this vet because my boyfriend's family's dogs have all been taken care of and put down at McAbbe's for over 20 years. We brought our new hyper and playful 7-month old puppy in boarded him for about 6 days. While we were gone they sent pictures which was very sweet, but we were also told something had happened to him and needed to be x-rayed so I agreed they follow through to see what was wrong. When we picked him up that Monday, they told me "it looks worse than it actually is". He was limping in a cone and his entire paw was raw and covered in dried blood...I've never seen him in so much pain and sadness. Not only did they barely apologize, but they were trying to make me pay for over $60 worth of meds and X-rays while my dog was hurt under THEIR care. He used to be easy to groom and now since we picked him up that day (it's been over 2 years now) He will go crazy- pee, poop, and bite anytime someone tries to bath, nail clip, dry-off or anything that has to do with touching him for grooming or vet purposes. He is now clearly traumatized and getting him groomed and going to the vet is a nightmare. The icing on the cake was the staff was super rude every time I'd come in after that point. I'm sure if they knew my dog was a part of my Boyfriend's family's dogs they've taken care of for about 2 decades, they wouldn't have treated me and my dog way better. I'm sure Dr. McAbbee himself is a great doctor, but I wish the staff would be more attentive and understanding when someone else's pet is injured under their care. Read Less

I've been going to Dr. S. McAbee for 12 years. I drive 45 mins to see him and will not go anyplace else. Dr. McAbee is amazing - he caught my dogs (rare) cancer in the early stage . When I took my dog to UF Small Animal Hospital Oncology, they were shocked /impressed because most vets / owners do not catch prostate cancer until it has spread  (my dog was fixed as a puppy - treating dog prostate cancer is different  than men).Dr. McAbee and UF oncology gave me 6 more months with my baby and I will never forget that.There is one lady upfront that I find short and rude but the rest of the staff is friendly. Dr. P and Dr. Braun are also great! If you have to stay goodbye to your fur baby, I recommend Lap of Love which is a vet that comes to your home to put your baby to rest. My dog died here a couple years ago. He was in the kennel for the weekend and was having some tests done while he stayed. He was old. But the doctor who did the tests, who was with my dog in his last moments, He never even saw or spoke to us. We got second hand information about what happened. We were  given part of his things back from the kennel. They told me Something we had to come back for because they were in his crate with him and for some reason, no one could go get them. But they did have some of his things ready because they had not been in the crate with him while staying there. In that bag were his 2 favorite toys and all 4 of his Greenies treats. So that means they never even gave him his toys or treats. Comforts of home. Not that they could have known, but those were the last days of his life. Those were his things. It still hurts so bad to this day that my dogs last days and moments were spent here. I should have never trusted that they doctors and kennel attendants would keep him safe. It has been 3 years this month. But I needed to say something for my dog. His name was Lucky. He was the best dog. He was so smart, sweet, and caring. He was important. Make sure your vet treats your animals like they are important. Make sure they treat them like you would Maybe its changed there now. For the animals sake, I really hope so. I was at another emergency animal hospital before this and they made me pay for 700$ worth of tests ony cat and claimed that he was feeling better and sent him home with me when he was actually just as bad as when he first got there. I then took him here and they diagnosed him in under ten minutes without any tests and now he's all better. I highly recommend this place! Read Less

I had an appointment for 3 cats at 7:30. Offering to assist, let alone greeting a customer, should be more important than the papers you are shuffling. I had to walk to the counter to be acknowledged. No greeting was offered. If you aren't a morning person don't be scheduled to open. I have been going to McAbee since 1992 which was  before Dr Scott McAbee's father retired. I have taken my Golden, Lab, and three Bernese Mountain Dogs there over the years. The staff is kind, caring, and loving.  I just had to send my 7 yr old Berner over the Rainbow Bridge yesterday.  The staff and doctor were so compassionate as we held him. Their attention to detail and sincere concern for our pain was felt by all members of my family.   I cannot recommend them enough and will continue to bring my pets to them as long as I have pets. THEY CALLED THE POLICE AND WENT THROUGH THE PROCESS OF FILING A COMPLAINT ON A  CUSTOMER AND PUT HIM IN JAIL OVER $31!  MOREOVER, THIS GUY WAS A CUSTOMER FOR SEVERAL YEARS THERE AND WAS HANDICAPPED AND 2 OF THEM LITERALLY RAN HIM DOWN ON THE SIDEWALK AS HE HOBBLED TO THE CAR WITH HIS CANE! So this guy must have done something wrong right? Well the complaint to the police from Mcabee was for more than $100 and that he was swinging his cane around at everyone and even knocked down a shelf filled with items with it. So the police called after they were closed and asked if he would come down and right then. Without even giving him a chance to explain his side of the case, the cop just started screaming and screaming and screaming like he didn't get his daily venting of slapping his wife and kicking the dog. I have heard the tape! I'm not going to write a book here, however, I know this guy better than anyone. He offered to pay what he owed that day but they wanted more. Which seems to be a theme in the 7 one star complaints they have gotten here in the last year. Bottom line, he took it to court as a consumer advocate because this wasn't the first time they would change their price  not only on him but other people he knew. In court, he would not settle and several of the people at Mcabee came there. They proceeded to perjure themselves as there was a video tape. It showed him walking using his cane for help never waving it anyone and nothing happened to any items on the shelf, moreover, all of a sudden the complaint wasn't for more than $100, rather, since they lied about adding things to the bill, it went down to $31. So sad that the kennel manager is a nice person, and does a great job! Thank you Jackie! But the facility MANAGER is prideful, rude, and rather than investigating the possibility of something being missed and unforseen she rather acuse and suggest we go somewhere else. SO SAD WE LEFT BECAUSE OF HER ! Funny how here we are 6 months later of boarding and frequent spa sessions at another Vet and no more frequent contracting Kennel Cough ! I have never given a one star review, but I feel that I need to. The most recent episode that occurred here was that my father took his 17 year old cat and the veterinarian stated that she had vertigo. Three to four hours later, she passed away, convulsing in his arms. The symptoms that were described to the vet were incontinence and severe disorientation. No refund for the services rendered earlier in the day, even though he was told the cat would be healthy again in two to four weeks. This is the second cat that this has happened to. The other family cat was 19, and the same situation happened. The veterinarian stated that the condition was minor, and the cat died a few days later. Finally, my dog was consistently reverse sneezing. We mentioned this to the veterinarian on three separate occasions and were told that they were allergies. No medication or tests were completed. When I moved away, I took him to another vet and found that he had basosquamous carcinoma. He only has a few months to live at this point. I do not know if an earlier diagnosis would have made a difference in his case; I also am aware that my father's cats were older. However, this does not change the negligence of this office. They did not complete the necessary tests or examinations in all three cases. I encourage all to take their animals elsewhere. Read Less

When my sweet 12 year old kitty was sick I brought him here for x-rays. He had a tumor on his heart and several tumors throughout his body and nothing could be done. I was absolutely devastated and Dr Braun stayed with me in the exam room while I cried and the girls came in from the front desk to check me out so I could have some privacy alone away from the lobby.  Dr Braun also called me to check on me and my kitty after we went home and they sent a very nice rainbow bridge card that is still on my fridge after Blackie passed.  I recently adopted two little black kittens (bc my cat was so great it took two little guys to fill his shoes) and Dr Braun said they had very big shoes to fill on their first check up which made me feel like she really cared and Remembered me and my cat, and I wasn't just another number or client. She did some research on my kittens suckling behavior and called me to follow up with what she found. I take my dog here too who is very fearful of vets and he loved the techs and staff! Read Less

I have taken my dog to McAbee vet for several years. She also stayed at their kennel frequently when we were out of town. Stevie loved to go there and she was always 'normal' when I picked her up, which is rare for a kennel. You will not find better veterinary care, better kennel care or caring, helpful staff. McAbee Veterinary Clinic is a great place to take your loved one. My dog was getting sick and we didn't know why. We saw multiple vets while in and out of the office and they were all very caring and finally helped us get into the Vet Specialist the same day. Their diagnosis was confirmed. His crazy symptoms all culminated to having cancer in all of his major organs and he was having a lot of pain. We made the decision to euthanize him. After informing the clinic that he was no longer with us. Dr. McAbee himself called me to give us his and the clinics condolences. Could not ask for a more caring bunch of professionals. Really like this vet but sometimes they can make condescending comments which since I have been a customer since 2004, I could do without. The vets here seem rather knowledgeable but I could hear the people in the back talking about people being stupid which as a customer I found to not be professional.  So the vets I recommend here are Dr. Jones and Dr. McAbee.  I am thinking of possibly switching vets as this one is far for me to drive to but came highly recommended to be.   Disappointed regular Read Less

We have been seeing Dr. Jones since January of 2015. Our Saint Bernard started at McAbee when she was about 3 months old. Unfortunately, our Saint has had several health issues so McAbee knows us by name along with our dog because we are there so often. Dr. Jones has put the care of Minnie first before any thought of profit comes to mind. She even did her own extra research to see what option would be the best for our dog. I can't rave about McAbee or Dr. Jones enough. I recommend everyone to go to McAbee Veterinary Hospital. Other locations might be less expensive, but no location has such a wonderful staff or facility. Also, for anyone checking reviews to choose a new hospital, note how many positive reviews McAbee has compared to other animal hospitals. Boarded dogs here for a few days and one came back with a strained back and lost five pounds. Went back to see what was wrong with him and the staff was extremely rude to me because I was so upset with how my dog was returned. I took a tour of the "kennels" and my God was I petrified. He probably stayed in the tiny crate 23 hours out of the day. They were constantly spraying water right below them, scaring them, while still in the crates. Now they refuse to see my other hurt dog that I've called them about twice trying to make an appointment. Great vets, horrible office staff. This goes to show that the staff is emotional and cares more about their feelings than taking care of a hurt animal. If you love your animals, don't take them here or ever board them here. I've used this medical provider for two dogs over the past 11 years. On rare occasions, like in any medical practice, often emergencies have me waiting a bit. That's ok, with me. I like that they provide me with prescriptions for meds vs. the meds themselves for drugs I can get, say, at Target. The occasions when my dogs needed to see an actual vet, I've found the vets are patient and effective and good communicators with dogs and humans. My real priority is how is my dog treated when I board him, and especially, how is the staff that actually interact with my dog when I board him. No problem. Those people are so loving and caring that I feel that he is in warm and caring hands. What a relief! The practice will show you the kennel and you can see when you drive in the outdoor "play" area to the north of the building. Why am I not giving them a 5? Occasionally it seems as if the left hand is not talking to the right hand. It's never been about an issue I could not get straightened out by paying attention and calling miscommunications to someone's attention. Once again, this may be characteristic of a large and established practice. These kinds of communication slips should be identified for analysis and the customer should be apologized to. There's a reason that Mcabee Veterinary Hospital (and kennel) has been a mainstay of our community for two generations -- they know what they're doing. They care. Read Less

Came to Dr. McAbee late in my Golden's life.  Every member of the staff is wonderful!  My dog is now in his last days.  Dr. M and his staff could not be more supportive!  They fit me in when I came home and found my dog unable to get up.  Dr. M gave me all the options, and is there for me when I call.  They love my dog, and they are so, so understanding.  Wish I had found this hospital years ago! I moved here from Miami and I used to take my pets to a vet clinic over there. Its a service line at this place. You come in, be seen, and get out. Staff is moderately polite but you can tell the girls behind the desk just want to get you over and done with. The vets are very nice but they're not attentive at all. I took my pup and my cat for a first visit and all they cared about were records. Didn't even bother taking a good look at the animals. When I asked for heart worm medication they just gave it to me without testing them for anything. When I questioned them I got, "Well the results come back in 6months so if you really want to wait but the test isn't necessary." Had to go back to get my pup's ears checked because of an infection. Medication alone was $50 but I guess that's normal? If you just want to get your pet's shots, go here. If you're looking for a family vet, don't bother. Read Less

In and out in less than 45 minutes. I noticed my dog limping and was not weight bearing on her leg. I did an emergency walk in. They took us in and were very sweet. The doctor took one look and was able to pinpoint the problem. They also did the procedure while we were there. She had to get a nail taken out due to bleeding and discomfort. This would never have been possible at Banfield, our previous Vet. I'm sticking to McAbee. The collective payment for the procedure/anesthetic and medication was around $135. Read Less

I have been taking my dog to McAbee for several years and have always been happy. Their staff is friendly and accommodating, they have late evening and weekend hours, and it's a bright and clean environment. I adopted another dog just before Thanksgiving, and when I brought him into McAbee for his first visit, I expected to walk out with a $150-$200 bill. When I went to check out, they told me there was no charge. Apparently when you rescue or adopt a pet, they waive the fee for the first visit. What!?!?! Who does that!?!   I was floored! What an incredible offer! Once of the receptionists said it's because 'you saved their life. it's the least we can do.'  This sealed the deal for me. They are top notch, class acts. #1 in my book! I will always recommend  McAbee Animal Hospital to anyone who asks.I've seen several of the Vets and they are all fantastic. In addition to being good at their jobs, they have great bedside manner as well. Oh, also, Beth their groomer is fantastic! She listens to what you want and does a great job. Don't tell a client they've already paid for something and then stick them with another bill.And third, and worst of all, my puppy's health was put at risk.  I took my puppy in a month ago for shots and I had noticed that he looked very skinny.  I was feeding him as recommended, but his ribs were sticking out.  The vet said he was fine and that he would fill out with age.  Then I took my puppy in today for a check up and shots and was told by a different vet in the same office that I wasn't feeding my dog enough and that he should be eating double what I was giving him.  I specifically asked about his feeding a month ago, I commented on his ribs, and your office told me he was fine.  Now I'm being told he's not fine and that for that ENTIRE month I've been underfeeding him because of one of your doctors.I do not trust this vet's office with much of anything: timeliness, accountability, billing, or compassionate health care for animals.  I will not be going back and would not recommend their office to anyone. I am very happy I chose this veterinarian clinic!Very friendly and kind staff who care. Up front pricing, and very knowledgable. My 8 month old cat started throwing up a lot over a week. After his wellness went off and on, I decided to take him to the vet. I looked up reviews on line and yelp and they are all right.This place was the right choice. I was able to call and make a appointment for the next day at 8 am to have him seen. The staff was very fast at taking care of me and my pet.  And very kind. This is a great vet.  This place is ones of the sad things about having to move away from the Orlando area because I wish there was a McAbee's Vet everywhere.  They're extremely friendly and everyone clearly loves animals.  You'd think that loving animals if you work at a vet is a forgone conclusion but I have not found this everywhere.  McAbee's building is clean, modern, comfortable and smells good (that last one is problem for many animal hospitals).  I like their dedicated building and yard which feel like it is a safe distance from the road.  Their prices and services provided are also good.  My dog has minor anal gland issue which requires only a simple cleaning once a month.  McAbee did this service for us as a walk-in for only $10.  For this same issue many other vets required a full service package with payments of between $40 to $80 just to do the anal cleaning among other unnecessary services.  One vet even tried to push drugs on us for our dog even though we already have had the issue fully diagnosed.  At McAbee I never felt like they were trying to upsell us or push unnecessary services.  They always take our comfort as well as our pet's as a top priority. In my opinion McAbee is hands down the best vet in Orlando. All the DVM's there are amazing, compassionate and provide top-notch care without ripping you off. We know that they care as much as we do - and it shows. All surgery is done in-house. It's a fully functional animal hospital and they take care to hire the best technicians around. Each time we've gone, the response to our pets' needs have been the same that we would expect from a doctor treating a family member. Ever since i moved to Winter Park a few years ago, i have been very happy that i found such a good vet to take my cats. The reason i selected the vet is that they had high rating on Angie's list plus their office is so close to my house.What i value most about McAbee's is the great service and knowable staff. I appreciate that the Vets do not try to sell you on extra services and/or try to over vaccinate your animals. They help you select the best care for your animal depending on the individual situation. Plus they are up on current research and take pride in educating you on the situation if there is something wrong with your animal.Plus, their prices are very reasonable for the services they provide compared to vets i have been to in the past. I have been here a couple different times with our two dogs.  The staff has always been nice, helpful and well informed.  Did I mention that Dr Mcabee is an Auburn Alumni, "War Eagle" (it's okay they also have a UF vet also).  One of the things i noticed the first time there is how professional the front desk people are (they are not a bunch of kids talking about nonsense and not paying attention to the clients).  The second thing I noticed is that they are timely, if you show up at you appointment time they get you in the examining room extremely close to the appointment time and they also have a tech in the room quickly.  It is not the typical doctor/vet visit where you sit in the room for 30min before someone comes in there.  This alone makes this place a good place Read Less

This vet was recommended by a friend. She goes here and loves them so I decided to give them a try.  I was very impressed.  My labrador warmed up quickly to the vet and even allowed the vet to lead him out of the room to have this thyroid tested.  He usually puts up a fight and ends with me going with him.   I also had to have my other dogs eye checked because he was recovering from an eye ulcer. I was pleasantly surprised that the cost of the eye drops were half the price from my previous vet.  They genuinely seemed to care about my dogs well-being and worked with their personalities.  I couldn't ask for more and am happy that I have found a vet that both my dogs and I like. I attempted to use yelp to find a recommendation for an excellent vet to take my two pound puppies to.  Yelp recommended Fairbanks -- as did the rest of the internet -- as possibly the best vet in the world.  Unfortunately, and predictably, the best vet in the world is fully booked for the rest of time!  But Fairbanks strongly recommended McAbee, and after checking out McAbee's website, I decided to entrust my pups to their care.Had a great first visit.  Puppy #2 got her 2nd round of puppy shots, Puppy #1 got a complementary look since I wanted to make sure he was ok, and the vet gave him treats since Puppy #1 was clearly very afraid of being in a vets office.  In the lobby, a lady told me she'd been coming to McAbee for 30 years, and you could find cheaper, but you couldn't find anything better.  That was great, to get a fantastic recommendation.  I also thought my bill -- which included a few medications for Puppy #2, who came to us with kennel cough, infected eyes, and no flea meds -- was eminently reasonable, if not downright cheap.I've been there again, just last weekend, for Puppy #2's third round of puppy shots + rabies, and for Puppy #1 to get more treats and his toes clipped.  Very friendly, quick service, the vets really seem to like dogs and care about their health, and this is the nicest vet I've ever been to (and I've been to quite a few, just not with these pups).So -- 5 stars for friendly, caring, reasonably priced service!  :) Read Less
