THEY GAVE MY DOG THE WRONG VACCINE AND SHE GOT SICK!!!!
I wish I could give negative stars! This place is horrible! I have a main vet in Cumming, GA but just moved to Kennesaw this year. I called to make an appt for my dog to get her 6 month Kennel Cough vaccine (Bordetella) and I know for certain I asked for that, because I never remember what any of the shots are called so I had the email reminder pulled up from my previous vet. After the appointment they brought me Lexi, but then I waited in my car for 45 minutes someone to come out with my bill. I asked 3 different people to send someone out bc I had to go to another appt. They never did so I had to leave. Then when I called they didn't even apologize they just said, "so you want to pay over the phone?"
My dog had caught a cough that when I researched the kind of cough it said kennel cough. So I took her to Lake City again. The doctor said he was not sure but he wanted to start her on antibiotics and a cough suppresant in case it is the start of Kennel Cough. I paid $148.37 for that visit and the meds.
Then when I was taking Lexi to her main vet for her annual appointment, because I want to keep her on the same heartworm and flea prevention, I had Lake City email her records. My vet lead came out and asked me why Lexi received a Distemper shot in July and that she was due for Bordetella. I was like WHAT??? I called Lake City and Ashley confirmed that they definitely have Lexi the Distemper shot bc they remove the label from the bottle and place it on her paperwork and scan it in. I was so upset. I cried bc my 12 year old dog was now sick and it could have been prevented! I told her I'd like all the money back I've spent for a vaccine that was not ordered and the illness visit and meds that was due to Lexi not receiving the correct vaccine. And I said that doesn't even begin to rectify the situation! She said she would have to speak to the owner and she'd call me back.
A week later, I had to call them back as there was no follow up. Ashley said the owner said I would need to prove that Lexi has Kennel Cough by getting blood tests that I would have to pay for before he would refund my money. WTF? Let's put two and two together here dude! My dog has NEVER been sick. You have all her records. The only thing she's ever had is a heart murmur her whole life. You gave the wrong vaccine and I live in a downtown area where there are a ton of dogs... DUH!!!!!! Man up and eat your workers' mistakes and then have a meeting to ensure this doesn't happen to anyone else's animal! Is that really too much to ask after my 12 year old dog who is my moon and my stars is now sick? Even if all tests were done and it turned out not to be what I think, the refund is less than $200 which is a drop in the bucket for you to just own up to an initial unnecessary mistake and keep it moving.
Another employee called me back over a week later and stated that I got a detailed receipt the day of the vaccine and I told her I did not bc I had to pay over the phone days later bc not one person brought me my bill in 45min! She said ooooh I was not told that. Then she said well the boarding place shouldn't have taken her without an updated vaccine. I was like lady.... who is telling you all this? I have NEVER once taken my dog to a boarding facility. She said ohhh well they told me... ok well it seems I didn't have the correct information so let me call the owner again and get back to you. Yeah that was frickin weeks ago. I've tried calling back but no answer and no response from that person. What the heck? Get your sh*# together!!!! And stop avoiding the situation. This review is going everywhere now. You can thank your own actions for that one! Read Less

Overall, good staff and doctors! I went to both offices- the one in Acworth called Acworth animal hospital and the Lake City office. The Lake City office is bigger and more up to date but the staff is equally nice. I waited a while for my baby to get X-rays and be seen about at the Acworth vet but they were really busy and took great care of my dog. She basically broke a part of her shine bone and it needed to be wired and pinned. They have a surgeon I'm unsure if he is an orthopedic surgeon or a general surgeon but his name is Dr. Carmichael and he was AWESOME with Dora. He consulted with me quickly and was knowledgeable about what my pet was going to be going through. He got to her surgery the same day we consulted and I picked her up the next day! The staff that checked me out was very friendly and helpful with all of the questions that I had. They gave Dora lots of cuddles which is greatly appreciated seeing as I treat my pets as family and love for them to be treated with care. Highly recommend them for whatever your pet needs! Will be coming back to get my baby spayed with them when she is 6 months. Thanks so much Lake City Animal Hospital and thank you to Dr. Carmichael! Read Less

My dog became ill when he was being boarded while I was on vacation. I was never called about his condition. He had been having diarrhea so they gave him 2 different meds and did a fecal parasite screening all without my informed consent. NO ONE EVEN ATTEMPTED TO CALL ME ABOUT MY DOG'S WORSENING CONDITION! I would have been fine with the meds and screening if I had just been informed. They are too busy of a clinic to let owners know how their pets are doing while being boarded. I picked him up and never even got an apology. Lake City, thank you for keeping my dog "comfortable" as it was put. However, get more competent staff that will do their jobs to keep owners notified of their pets conditions. I will never be back. Read Less

I have never been so pissed and disappointed at a vet. If I could give them negative stars I would. I asked for an orthopedic surgeon after my dog needed a surgery on her rear leg and they told me dr. Carmichael and that they could do the surgery here. Only to find out 2 weeks after surgery this said Dr is not a specialist in orthopedics but just a GENERAL surgeon. Not only that, I wrote down what medications she was on from the emergency vet prior to her surgery. They prescribed her another medication and told me to give it to her that night. This medication reacted with her previous and perforated her stomach(usually needs a 5 day wash out period and it was only 72 hours) ... after spending $15K in emergency surgery I will never step into this place again. I agree that the staff was friendly but I would never trust them with my babies again. I almost lost my best friend . Don't go here if you would like to keep your animals alive and safe!!! Read Less

Dr. Carmichael treated my dog Daisy terribly. He drug her down the hallway, screamed at me to shut the door, and told us only half of what he was going to do to our dog. He put her under anesthesia without our knowledge. He also did 6 biopsies all over her body when we were only told she was going to have 1. After the biopsies were done he sent her home without any pain medicine, only a antibiotic. We were supposed to get results to see if she had cancer in 3-5 days and they said they would call us, which they did not do, after 5 days had passed we had to call them to get the results. We were told she did not have cancer but they wanted to do a deeper biopsy to rule out all chances of cancer, even tho to begin with Dr. Carmichael said that the first biopsy would rule out all chances of cancer. Before we did the Biopsy we also had blood work done where her red blood cell count was a little high but nothing that we should have been worried about, and her white blood cell count was fine. Daisy's wounds from the biopsies were terribly infected because they did not tell us to clean them. When we went to go get the tubes to "drain" the infection is when we were NOT told that she was going to be put under anesthesia. Our beautiful loving baby girl Daisy passed away last Tuesday because of Dr. Carmichael's miss treatment. We also found out that the same vet gave surgery on a dog thinking that it had something in its stomach and come to find out it had nothing in it! I also found out that another dog passed away from being dehydrated at this vet. Please never take your animals here. Dr. Carmichael has no bedside manners and also had no sympathy for the passing of our Daisy. Read Less

So I took my dogs in for teeth cleaning and I'm quite sure they're going to need to have a few pulled between them, Their extremely healthy given their age (run 1 mile per day) but they are older dogs so it's expected given their age(15y/o) they may need some teeth pulled. I spoke to the vet tech, filled out the necessary paperwork and was told the Vet does surgeries between noon and 3pm. And i could pick them up around five. I called later in the day to see how thing are going, and learn the Vet pull ALL of my male dogs teeth! Every single tooth in his head, I was F'n pissed that they made such a decision on their own without contacting me prior to making such a bold decision. Are you F'n kidding me? Maybe I didn't want ALL of my dogs teeth pulled, maybe I wanted a second opinion maybe I couldn't afford it after all they were charging by the tooth. When I picked them up one smelled like shit, apparently she rolled in poop while in a cage coming out from anesthesia. I was pissed off, but it was done not like they could put the teeth back in. All total I spent 1100.00 and still not once had I met or even laid eyes on a single veterinarian in the office. I was given antibiotics and pain meds for them, all at extra expense of course. It wasn't until later I realized how hard it was to administer the syringes of drugs. I'm just trying to give them there meds, their fighting for their lives. It was not going well to say the least. So I packed them up and went back to the office for help. Within two seconds the girl had drugs in them and I had learned a new trick to giving them their meds. At least that went well, still haven't met or seen a vet. It's been a few days, and I've had time to think about what's happened and maybe the vet made the right decision for the health of my dog. BUT making such a decision without consulting with the owner first. I still disagree. Read Less

I knew they closed at 700 so I wanted to verify I could get help as time was of the essence as my dog was having a severe allergic reaction that was working towards a respiratory emergency. I was heading to Cherokee Emergency bet but called Lake City. They put me on hold to verify a Dr was still on premises. When they returned, they advised me to continue to Cherokee as "it's equidistant", which is an interesting comment given they had no idea as to my whereabouts. On January 27th 2014 my dog whelped 11 puppies. During the whelping process she retained 6 placentas. This could potentially be deadly. I spoke with my mentor and was recommended to immediately get a dose of Oxytocin in her, which is used for this issue, it causes the dog to have a contraction to push anything remaining inside her. I could not get in touch with my regular Dr. so around 3pm on the 27th I called Lake City Animal Hospital. I told the receptionist the situation and that I needed a shot of Oxytocin. I was told to come right in, no need for an appointment. So I rushed to the clinic with my girl. Once I arrived I filled out the necessary paperwork, and to my surprise the receptionist came out and told me that and I quote, "Umm We don't actually have Oxytocin" so they sent me back to speak with the Vet (Toby G. Carmichael, DVM) So He comes in the room and proceeds to tell me that my girl will be fine, and that Oxytocin is only used in Horses, it is no longer needed for Dogs. (NOT TRUE) He proceeded to tell me that he has over 21 years experience and that she will be just fine. Not to worry. So I left and took her home thinking that I was over reacting and that she would be fine. I was to follow up with my vet the next day. Well less than 8 hours later I wake and my girl cannot move, SHE WAS SO WEAK AND COULD BARELY LIFT HER HEAD. Sure enough she had develop Mertritis. (Metritis is the medical term used to describe inflammation of the uterus. This uterine disease is similar to pyometra but it has some differences. Unlike pyometra, metritis is most often a bacterial uterine infection that develops in the immediate post partum (after giving birth) period and occasionally after abortion or breeding. Lake City Animal Hospital has been taking care of our pets for well over 10 years. Dr. Toby Carmichael, the other veterinarians and the great staff have provided outstanding care from day one. When we had to put our 14-year-old Dalmatian to sleep 3 years ago, they were incredibly supportive and helped us through the painful process. They now care for our two rescue greyhounds and we wouldn't think of going anywhere else. Their fees are reasonable, hours are convenient. They're the best! Read Less

I had to take my cat here at a last minutes' notice to be put to sleep due to a very quickly-deteriorating health and I was very pleased with how they handled everything. There was no appointment; I just walked in and they were able to have my cat put to sleep in about an hour. Without charging extra, they were able to take a second look at my cat before putting him down and told me he had a mouth tumor, which I never realized. He wasn't able to eat anymore so it explained everything. My only complaint and reason why I took off a star is because they charged me $10 more than what was quoted over the phone. Its a good thing their Dr.s are good because the rest of the place is a disaster. I have never called without being put on hold. Their sign outside is always looking for receptionist. Called to schedule an appointment and wanted to get a sedative to calm my cat prior to the appointment no one ever called back. I called the day before to ask about it and it was if I hadn't requested it already so I give them the information all over again and was told I would be called back. 5 minutes before they closed I got VM saying that if I could get there or call them they would try to wait or I could come by the next morning pick it up take it home give it to my cat then bring him in for his appointment. Not exactly customer friendly. Well as it turned out I couldnt get him in his carry so I called an hour before his appointment and reacheduled. Got here they wanted to know who told me I could come in at 4, well I was put on Hold twice so I guessed the two names I could remember now waiting to be worked in. I keep telling myself its a convenient location, its only once a year. But really I think I am over it. Service has never been great but seems to get worse every year. By the way the sedative is probable gonna wear off and someone's gonna get scratched up. I tried. Lol. Read Less

I wanted a second opinion of my dog's condition. They set me up with Dr. Carmichael. On the day the staff was extremely friendly, cordial and the wait was very short.Dr. Carmichael spent 20 minutes with us discussing my dog's condition and what we would be facing. His honesty was greatly appreciated and I felt his professionalism was without question. He gave me all the options available, and the pros and cons of each. Together it was determined that my dog had little time and she was suffering. He prescribed a pain medication to relieve her pain and recommended a service that I could call to put down our dog. When the emotions of losing one dog subsides, and I am ready for a new pet, Lake City Animal Hospital will be the placeI bring my pet. Please don't consider taking your animals to this or their other two vet offices. The staff is rude, they nickel and dime you to death, and are the most uneducated "professionals" I have ever encountered. They recommend the crappiest of foods and are always pushing their prescription diets. It doesn't matter if you have an appointment - you will still wait for at least 30 minutes to an hour. No apologies will be given and the receptionists are always swamped and unorganized. We didn't know that there was a three year rabies vaccine and didn't find out until they had given our dog the one year. I am sure that they aren't going to mention their three year vaccinations as they want to see you each and every year to suggest the myriad of unneccessary procedures, pills, and supplements that your dog should be on. If anything is wrong with your dog, they will leave a message with the horrible news rather than try to reach you in person. We were told that our dog had kidney failure and come to find out that wasn't the case. The vets wouldn't talk to us and sent a vet tech to explain things. Then we were supposed to come back each week to get his blood tested. Of course we paid the office visit and the blood test charges each and every time. In the end, something was wrong with their machine as there was no way that one week our dog was in Kidney failure and the next he wasn't and everything was normal! It was so great to get all the information from the mouth of a vet tech. So, there are many other vets around that are not bankrolled by pet food and pet medication companies like this one. If you don't mind spending thousands of dollars for nothing, then go for it. But, I think most people expect more from a vet office. We took our animals there for four years and in the last two years, the quality has declined steadily. It was our mistake to tough it out for so long but you couldn't pay me to take any of my animals there. Lesson learned. Read Less

Read Less

My dog was left without water in a cage with a cone on his head all day. He was not able to drink without help. When I got him home, he was so lethargic and dehydrated and drank 2 bowls of water. They did an unauthorized Bordatella vaccination even though I told them NOT to ever give my dogs that vaccine again because it made BOTH my dogs so sick the first time they gave it to them. I took him in for an eye problem ONLY. They can't tell me what is wrong with my dog's eye and now I have to take him to the canaine ophthalmologist. My bill was $200.00 for today and my poor dog suffered without even a drink of water all day. They have gotten way too busy to care about how they treat the animals. It is all about $$$ at Lake City Animal Hospital! Read Less

Tony and I can't express how much we appreciated how compassionate they were on May 3rd....this is the day we had to send our precious Odin (15 yr old Husky) to visit The Rainbow Bridge. This was the first time we've gone through this and a week later, it still brings tears to our eyes. The staff was wonderful in walking us through this process and allowing us to have private time before and after he had passed. Receiving the sympathy card in the mail yesterday made us appreciate them even more for taking the time to acknowledge/sign the card and send it to us. Read Less

Very caring staff. Words can't express how thankful I am to find a vet and staff who care so much about the animals they treat. You can tell that this is more than just a job and a paycheck. There are so many people who have loved on my baby boy this week, and sacrificed their personal time to stay late or meet me on a Sunday morning for a post-op check up. I'm in tears with gratitude. Some of them include Dr. Haber, Dr Tetjan, Dr. White, Karen, Jessica and Jamie. I know there are lots of others who have worked with my boy, Ripley, too. If you want a vet that genuinely cares for your fur baby, this is the place to go. Read Less

Our beloved Maple passed on 4/30/15. She was cared for with the most loving attention you could imagine by all the staff at Lake City Animal Hospital. She (and we her parents) spent numerous days in extreme distress and everyone there was generous with their time and love for all.
We tried treatments that made sense for Maple's age and condition and pretty much let the doctors guide us with what care they felt would give Maple the best chance to pull through as well as quality of life.
When it was determined they could not do any more for Maple we all let her go.
We feel this is an extraordinary hospital with excellent cared and bed side manor. The total dollars spent was well below what we had expected with the amount of care she received. My parting words to them was it might be a few years but we will be back...Read Less

It is most often associated with retained fetuses or placentas. What to Watch ForFeverDehydrationDepressionDecreased appetiteVomitingDiarrheaFast heart rateVulvar discharge) She was so weak she was laying on 2 puppies and could not move, THEY WERE DEAD...AND I WAS ABOUT TO LOSE MY GIRL TOO. So I rushed her and 9 puppies to the ER on Tuesday Morning, spent every penny I had to get her stable then transferred her and 9 puppies to my Vet in Sandy Springs, where we ended up stuck there for 38 hours due to the Ice Storm. Every one is Doing well now. Just felt that people need to know about this incident before choosing to come to Lake City Animal Clinic Read Less

Not a huge deal though. Read Less

I tried. Lol. Read Less

Great people. I had used Banfield Pet Hospital for my dog for years, but should have been here. I called to see if they would see my pet who was suffering from a large, fast growing tumor. Read Less
