The worst.  First of all for a few tiny growths 1/4" he or someone in his office shaved him 6"x6".  Second my dog came home not fully awake from anesthesia which means he sat in a cage for at least 6 hours after we dropped him off.  3rd his paperwork states he will call if any additional procedures are required.  4th he removed 2 if the THREE growths. He did not call before extracting 9 teeth.  His reasoning was that when he's in surgery he doesn't have time to call.  THATS WHY PROFESSIONALS HIRE STAFF". He was rude and uncaring.  Never again.  Never.  One more thing, apparently the staff was too busy to call us when surgery was over just to tell us that everything "went well".  Didnt call the next morning either to ask about his night. If your pets are important to you go elsewhere. Pathetic. Checking his credentials. Not everyone graduates in the top 50% of their class. Read Less

I've been using ARVS for years. I tried vets closer to home, out of convenience, but Dr. Smith has saved more than one of my pets... when I thought it was the end. The latest miracle is my little Nellie Belly. I took her in expecting to say goodbye to her. But, she's back to her spunky little self! He doesn't give up on them! He's full of knowledge & takes the time to get to know his clients. He's got a great sense of humor & it's clear he loves the critters! The staff is always friendly & greet you with a smile when you walk in the door! I've recently moved to Lavonia but I'll be driving an hour to get my pets to him. Dr Smith is very nice. He treated my duck for a uri, and he explained everything very well. Was willing to.teach.me things about ducks that I didnt know. I will defiantly be bringing all my animals to him from now on. Read Less

We went in with two cats for a simple Ovariohysterectomy and were charged 492$. The reason for the extra price on the bill was extra examinations and shots that we specifically said we did not need. The receptionist refused to let us see the reason for the extra charges or our cats until we paid the bill and after when I confronted her about the extra charges she said that extra shots did not hurt the cats and that was all she would say on the subject. Friendly nursing staff otherwise. Be careful about them losing paperwork because we could not get ours. Read Less

My dogs have been coming here their whole lives. We love Dr. Smith and his staff! They take TIME with their patients and give honest advice and support. They work to keep their prices reasonable compared to other veterinarians I have used in the past. I LOVE THIS PLACE, and my pups do too. When I moved to Athens, finding the right vet was a must. One of my two dogs was rescued from an abusive home, so he doesn't take kindly to the vet experience, but Dr. Smith and his staff are great, and my boy calmed right down. It's so hard to believe that anyone could have a bad experience here. This is by far the best veterinary practice I've ever been to. Just having moved here and not having a vet, I went after just a phone call to have my very old lab euthanized. Dr. Smith was encouraging and asked that we try antibiotic treatment first. He was price conscience, professional yet extremely compassionate. We were so fortunate that his office was the closest one to our house because that's how we chose the best vet ever!! Read Less

I have just read Shannon H.'s review of this veterinary practice. I was sorry to hear of the condition of her dog. I hope it recovered. However, my experience with the clinic has been quite different. I met Dr. Smith when my horse destroyed his leg in a pasture accident. Dr. was calm, empathetic and efficient. He was exactly the person *I* needed in the situation. He not only ended my boy's pain, but helped me not to go to pieces. I have since taken my animals to Athens Regional Veterinary. The staff has always been friendly and supportive, and Dr. Smith is invariably willing to explain the situation and give wise and considered advice. My little fur baby is a tough customer. We had a bad experience at another vet and since then she is more than a handful during her check-ups. ARVS was suggested to me by a good friend and I'm so glad I listened. We have had nothing but good experiences with ARVS. I would not recommend this vet for care of any kind for your little furry loved one. Dr. Smith's bed side manner along with his staff (front desk and all) is dull, dry and down right rude to say the least. I had to make the difficult decision to take my dog to be put down due to a cancer diagnosis and these so called professionals just treated us like "okay, whatever". I'm sure they see and do this everyday, but that's NO excuse. I walk in carrying my baby because he can no longer walk and that Dr. Smith makes a comment under his breath about my dog not being on a leash. Seriously? People trust you with their loved ones who are truly like family, especially at such a difficult time and its a slap in the face when you don't treat it as such. Do yourself and your dog a favor and go somewhere else for ANY kind of care. Staff is rude, rude, rude. 0 stars in my book. Read Less

I love the staff at Athens Regional Veterinary Services! I needed certain vaccines for my pig, and they had them! I called multiple large animal vets around the Athens, Oconee area. Not only did they not have the vaccines, the people were rude. BUT ARVS was AMAZING! The staff is super bubbly and helpful! I would recommend there large animal services to everyone! Dr. Smith and Dr. Cooper are excellent. They have always been caring and willing to answer all of my questions. I have gone to them with my chocolate lab since I got her at 6 weeks old. We've been through spaying, vaccinations, emergency surgery, skin irritations, and I buy my meds from them. I really feel like they care about me and my animal. I highly recommend them!! Read Less
