Dr Brandon and his assistants were very good with our dog after she got hit by a car on a Sunday. He recommended multiple things which was too much for us to afford. However, she was treated well and he gave us what we needed at the time to help her heal until we could get her to our normal vet. Hoefully something like this will not happen again but we will come back here it needed. Read Less

Staff here made a traumatic night much easier. I had a 6 year old siamese in fine health who very suddenly threw blood clots into his heart and lungs..I rushed him to the Hospital and Dr Hopkins was kind and truly informative--explained the condition and my options. As hard as it was, I had to let him go, as even with a pain injection he was in extreme pain and there was no hope. Dr Hopkins and Tammy (I think) let me hold my cat in my arms like a baby while they put him to sleep, then afterwards let me and my wife spend as much time with him as we needed before leaving. I could not ask for more humane, professional, compassionate care. Read Less

We had to take one of our dogs here last night after she was injured by another dog. Because the laceration was so deep (to the tendon), she had to have it sutured while under anesthesia. Both of the vet techs that we encountered were very professional and kind. The vet, Dr. Brandon, took the time to explain the procedure before it occurred and then how to administer her medication afterwards. The cost was actually very reasonable for an emergency vet clinic--about half of what I feared we would be paying. While I hope that I don't have to take any of my pets to an emergency vet ever again, I am happy and relieved to know that we have this service in Athens. Read Less

I have never been so disgusted in my life. My dog went in because he seemed suddenly paralyzed. The on duty vet told me if i had endless pockets they could do more. They charged me almost $400 for overnight fluid, told me he was exposed to toxins AND that i should consider having him euthanized. What actually happened was my dog slipped a disk in his spine and though it has taken about a month of nurturing and not giving up the paralysis has gone and he is back walking! Shame on these ppl! They should be out of business! Read Less

Was recommended we bring our dog here after an attack from another dog. Because we were coming in at night the entry was very difficult to make out from the road. Once inside, you could tell the building was older but it was clean. The doctor and staff were friendly. They did recommend bloodnwork due to our dogs age but luckily he had just recently had it done, so you'll want to share thungs like that but all went well and at the end of a very long night, we took our baby home. My dog Bella became very sick, very quick and was seen by Dr. Prichard and her staff at Athens Animal Emergency Hospital. We were seen right away and diagnostics confirmed that Bella would need surgery or be put to sleep. Dr. Prichard and her staff were very understanding and compassionate while I made my decision. While I felt no pressure to pursue surgery, I decided to give it a go. They were respectful of my financial situation and my connection to Bella and did not recommend or charge for unnecessary procedures. While the cost of the surgery and treatment wasn't cheap, I didn't think it was unreasonably expensive for the care Bella received. Dr. Prichard followed up twice with my regular veterinarian to check on Bella's status post-surgery. I'm thankful for the bedside manner I received and the care Bella received during a traumatic experience. Read Less

The only reason I give this place one star is because zero wasn't an option. The vet there, Myron Downs basically stated my dog wouldn't make it through the weekend as he said he had stones yet NOTHING was on the xray and that a $3500 emergency surgery was the only way. He REFUSED to give him an antibiotic despite me telling him that the antibiotic and specialty diet worked the last time he had trouble urinating. Here it is, 2 days later and my dog is almost back to normal. Even my regular vet was shocked he didn't at least prescribe an antibiotic. They don't care about the actual well being of your pet. These folks are truly in it for the money as they refused a payment plan even after I'd already paid them almost $500. I will NEVER bring my dog back. This was a last resort as my vet was closed. They prevented my older terrier from suffering emotional trauma as well as efficiently treating her wound. Just a few weeks before her visit to Animal Emergency Hospital, my dog was attacked by another dog on a Sunday and I rushed her to the huge new teaching veterinary hospital. They did great work on her physical body, but subjected her to hours of unnecessary anxiety due to their myopic rules. When she tore off a big flap of skin in a late night accident, I took her to Animal Emergency Hospital on Atlanta Hwy instead. They let me wait with her to keep her calm. They treated her gently and had the foresight to send home pain medication. She was curious instead of terrified as she received care for her total well-being. They also treated me like a human being, and the dog and I are both recovering more easily this time. I'm so grateful to the thoughtful staff at Animal Emergency Hospital and recommend them.
