I don't go to Firehall 4 for normal veterinary business. However, today, my dog accidentally jumped onto a fishing rod in the car and got a fishing hook stuck in her leg. The staff were very friendly, and made time for us right before closing on a Friday. My dog was very comfortable with being handled by the staff and they quickly removed the hook and provided pain medications and antibiotics. The cost of service was very reasonable. This is the best veterinarian clinic in the area. We could not get a clear diagnosis on our 12 year old Golden until we came here. From Candace at the front desk to the doctors and techs, they are all so caring and kind. We ended up having to put our sweet dog to sleep and today I received in the mail the sweetest sympathy card along with a paw print of our sweet fur baby. We recently moved to the Athens area and had to find a new vet. The vet who has treated our family's pets for 20 years recommended Firehall 4 Animal Hospital to us, and we could not be happier. They have been so friendly and attentive. I love how they have a sign out front welcoming the pets being seen for the day and how everybody there already knows our pets by name. Just a very short time after we started bringing our dogs here, we had to make the difficult decision to put down our old male dog. The good folks at Firehall 4 were so kind and understanding through the whole process and made it so much easier for us to navigate the situation. The staff focuses when possible on prevention, but when we need help, she gets a call from the vet every day! I came here for the first time during an emergency. My Boxer puppy, Dottie, was stung by honey bees and anaphylactic shock. My cat is getting pretty old. But she is the light of our lives. We have been to three other Athens based vet clinics but we're always sorely overcharged for a simple checkup or treated as less than a priority. But then we found THIS place. They always remember my cat and treat her like their own. When we suspected something was suddenly very wrong with her, they were booked full that day but cared enough to squeeze her in without hesitation! The staff are kind and thorough. We had an emergency situation on Friday with our dog that ended with her having to be put down. Dr. Middendorf and all of the staff at Firehall 4 Animal Hospital were wonderful, caring, and accommodating. They even called a couple of times afterwards to check on us. I have had 2 dogs in the Athens area for 4 years now. After a handful of bad experiences with our vet we decided to switch vets. After reading a couple of reviews and hearing great things about Firehall 4 we decided to try them...it was an amazing decision. They worked with our work schedule and saw us a little later than they usually admit new patients. Our dogs are a little skiddish, but they handled them much better than our old vets. She also got down on the floor with my dogs and made them feel comfortable with her!!! The whole entire staff was amazing!! My lab has had urinary incontinence for about 2.5 years. My old vet said it was probably due to her being spayed. After talking with me, the Dr. told me that it could be a bacterial infection as well. She discussed with me all of the possible treatment options and let me help decide her treatment. After about a week of taking the antibiotic, Ramsey is now no longer experiencing incontinence!! Needless to say, if you are looking for a vet in the Athens area, go to Firehall 4! Read Less

I've seen all the Drs there, but Dr Bates is my primary vet and he worth his weight in gold. He really listens to you and is very understanding. I'm very happy with Firehall and the people who work there. We have been taking our dogs there for years. The vets are very caring and patient . Unfortunately, our Jessie who is a 14 yr old boxer was just diagnosed with diabetes and a mass in her stomach area . They have been awesome in helping us figure out this diabetes and trying to get her regulated on insulin, while helping us watch for signs of this mass taking over her body. She's an amazing animal and member of our family and it's going to be the saddest day ever when she has to leave us. I'm sure the Firehall family will be there for us and Jessie !!! Dr. Bates is the best vet in the Athens area. He is kind, compassionate and very easy to talk to. I have trusted him with caring for my fur babies for several years now and I can't imagine ever using another vet. I have boarded my dogs here almost every holiday for the past few years, have had zero problems or issues with boarding. I also get my (4) dogs groomed here. I love Dr. Bates and the staff at FH4. We have been taking our 3 dogs to all the docs at Firehall for the past 2 years and have been happy with their care. Recently, we had to make the difficult decision to put our old greyhound down. Dr. Bates was very careful to explain all of our options and our guy's prognosis, and was so supportive while we took the time to make our decision, answering all of our questions. When we finally made our decision, he offered to come to our home. He arrived with a colleague, and they were so compassionate and understanding, making sure that we had all said our good byes, and that we were all situated the way we wanted to be for our final farewells. This was a very sad loss for us, but we so appreciated his and the staff's compassionate care of our sweet dog and of us. We highly recommend them, they are knowledgeable and so caring. Read Less

I left both of my fur babies here and I will never bring them back. I left my 2 dogs in their care and I am still unsure of what happened while they were there. They called me the first full day in and said they had to split them up, for "playing a little rough." I was told no worries though, they calmed down immediately and one dog had only a little scrape. I pick them up a week later to find out that dog had multiple wounds. When we said we weren't told of the rest they said "oops." They then admitted that they didn't follow our initial directions for care, which would have alleviated this issue all together. Their admittance to poor care and lack there of, makes me believe the bottom line is what they do care about. Well that was a BIG "OOPS" to the expenditure I left with you. My friends and family do however care about their fur babies, and making sure animal 4 isn't on their list to use is on my bottom line.Read Less

We love Firehall! I take all four of my fuzzy kids there because the entire staff is so compassionate and clearly in the right line of work! When I bring in one pet, Dr. Bates and Dr. Peterson will ask how the others are doing as well. We've been taking our dog to Firehall 4 for 4 years now. We love it there! The staff treats him like he's their own dog and the place is very clean. I always hear horror stories from other pet owners about their vet bills but Firehall 4 is extremely reasonable and doesn't try to "upcharge" every visit. Read Less
