The staff is extreamly helpful and really cares for you and your pets. I called them after my pets got into a bag of trash and we went through all the items and checked to see if any of the items might be toxic. Our pets become apart of the family and we always want the best for them. Whether healthy or sick, this is the place to take them. I needed some urgent help for my cat (1yr old) who was having some serious issues. When other animal clinics were full, South Athens opened a spot up for us. Both Dr. Singh and Dr. Mosher are some incredible vets and they will personally handle every case with care and compassion. Even for this difficult case, their efforts put her on the road to recovery and she is back to her playful self. During that time we have had everything from yearly visits, to teeth cleaning, to euthanasia after an agressive brain tumor, and then our new addition"s first check up and yearly visits. The doctors and staff are skilled, knowledgeable, compassionate and patient. They always take extra time to answer questions and explain in a way that we will know and understand the medical and emotional issues to make the right decisions for our family members. We have been bringing our cats to South Athens Animal Clinic since we moved to Athens 14 years ago. They have ALWAYS gone above and beyond in caring for our friends, but our most recent experience exemplifies the compassion and skill that the doctors and staff at South Athens Animal Clinic are known for. Dr. Singh worked tirelessly over the course of the last year to treat our cat Dinosaur's excessive drooling. Unfortunately, it turned out that Dinosaur's drooling was due to cancer, and not a resolvable condition. Dr. Singh and the staff did everything in their power to make Dinosaur as comfortable as possible during his decline. When the time came for Dinosaur to pass on, they made the experience as peaceful and full of love as it could be. I was overwhelmed with the caring and support that was shown to us. Took our cat here under unfortunate circumstances 15 minutes before they close. We thought he was maybe choking, they met us at the door and rushed him in to the vet. After trying everything, they could not save him, not knowing what caused his death. The vet was then so kind to take some x-rays to try to figure out what had happened. Turns out he had a very enlarged heart, likely tied to some disease, and suffered heart failure. While he was probably gone before he made it inside, they did all they could, and then some in effort to comfort us and explain what happened. There's nothing we nor they could've done once heart failure began but I could not have asked for more, especially as they handed him over to us and said "go home, there's no charge today." I love it here. I can’t say enough nice things about the establishment, the vets, the staff, just everything. We LOVE YALL! You cater to each of our four dogs needs as they need. Our dogs each have different personalities. My older dog has a lot of videos taken and talks with Dr. Mozier on the phone about her behavior. He took the time to talk on the phone with me, knows how anxious she gets when I bring her there, and works with us like that. Just bed side manner, these fur ...babies are my babies. I have no human children. I couldn’t say enough wonderful things. I am so grateful that the office is so close too! Even if it was an hour away I would still go, but am blessed in literally 1.5 minutes from our house. I moved to Athens in 1999, and thankfully was steered in the direction of South Athens Animal Clinic. Since then, through 4 dogs and 4 cats, have had nothing but wonderful and caring attention from the vets, and everyone else in the clinic. The Good: Initially, I was able to get an appointment easily and immediately, the doctors and staff are knowledgeable, the extended hours of operation are great for people who work 8-5, and the prices are VERY reasonable. Affordability and hours of operation are the major "pros" of this clinic. The Bad: It was exceptionally difficult to get an update on the status of an inpatient animal. I tried for over an hour to get someone on the phone and was put on a long hold every tim...e I called. Additionally, I tried to schedule the follow-up appointment they recommended at the time I picked my animal up to bring him home, and was told to call back later to schedule follow-up. They would not let me schedule the appointment at checkout, and when I DID call back to schedule the follow-up appointment, I was told that they fill up a week in advance and that I should have scheduled the follow-up appointment at checkout when I picked my animal up to bring him home...which is exactly what I tried to do, but for whatever reason, they would not allow. In synopsis, knowledgeable doctors, knowledgeable staff, excellent prices, great hours of operation, but very, very poor communication and overall organizational skills. The left hand doesn't seem to know what the right hand is doing. Trying to do what the doctor recommended (schedule a follow-up appointment) while not being permitted by the staff to do so, only to be later told by the staff that you should have done precisely what you tried to do (but they refused to allow) was rather frustrating. I would have liked to have given this vet a 5 star rating, but unfortunately, due to the issues I experienced with communication and trying to schedule a follow-up appointment, I can't go any higher than three stars for this one. It's a shame my first visit went the way it did, really. I have a cat, a dog, a rabbit, and several birds. I'd have been a good client to have kept. Edit: After giving this more thought, I'm going to have to change my three star rating to a two star rating, based on the fact that this vet only gave me enough medication for my cat to last him until the follow-up appointment that they wouldn't let me make, so now, I'm going to have to taper off and discontinue his meds before he's well, at least until I can take him to another vet for follow-up. I found the front desk staff to not be very helpful and rude, just for general questions. Maybe a course in customer service would be helpful. I've not used this clinic before and wanted to get a sense of the people who work here and see if it's where I want my pet care to be done. Dr Mosher has been my vet for 30 yrs! He has diagnosed my animals immediately when other vets and emergency clinics could not. He is such a great diagnostic doctor that he saves you money in unnecessary testing.  Him and his office staff are true animal lovers. Dr Mosher even came to my house to put my lab to sleep, made a foot print plaque for me, made a donation in his name and sent me a sweet condolence card. Read Less

My dog is a big guy with a big mouth, but would never hurt a fly. We have been to multiple vets that have had a hard time working with him because they're afraid he'd hurt them. Dr. Singh at SAAC is the first veterinarian that has realized what a sweet boy he is and has looked past his loud bark. We will never bring our pets anywhere else! Read Less

Very pleased that I found these vets! My boy had an aural haematoma (i.e. a blood-filled lump in his ear), and I went to two other vets for treatment options. The first one said the only option was inserting a teat cannula to drain the blood over the course of 3-4 weeks. The other said that the only option was surgery to cut away a piece of the ear, then stitch it back up! I knew this was not the case as I work with animals (birds and wildlife), and suggested a partial drain with a course of steroids. Both vets said it wouldn't work. However, I came here to South Athens Animal Clinic, and this exact treatment plan was recommended before I even said anything! My dog was relaxed around the vets and vet nurses, and enjoyed getting treats and attention- his ear healed beautifully, with no need for surgery, stitches etc. Highly recommended. Read Less

They are completely thorough with your pet exams and explain everything in detail - I never feel like I'm unsure of what's going on or feel like they didn't do enough (which I have other places). They have wonderful bedside manner with my dogs... and me. Their staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, they are also willing to work with long term clients as far as payments, should you be in a bind - which I have been. They also will suggest a decent home/over the counter remedy if possible, before I run my dog in and they've always been on point and saved me some money. Plus their prices are considerably more affordable than any vet in Athens. Even their prescription meds are considerably cheaper than online pet med carriers. My eldest dog who is 15 has been suffering from some chronic allergies that have plagued him for years. Other vets had me spinning my wheels and spending money on special tests and exams that were unnecessary. I brought my pup in there and they came up with a complete game plan to help him. Dr. Mosher even called me at 7 pm one night to make sure that I understood the plan and came up with something cost effective for me. It has worked wonders. He's bright, healthy, and happy now. Years ago, I was dog sitting for a friend who was out of the country and her dog came down with a horrible ear infection. Dr. Nemitz sent my friend a detailed email with information about what was going on with her dog (as she had limited access to a phone) and gave her his personal cell phone should she have questions. They were So amazing in taking in a sweet little sick stray kitten I found at my in-loves house! He was So tiny & had an obvious upper respiratory infection, but with 4 dogs & 2 cats already I'm stretched & couldn't take another especially one so small & in obvious need of medical attention, out of about 10 different places I'd contacted they were So gracious to say bring him in we will take him!!! And for their generosity, they have gained a new client with 6 patients!! Yall truly are angels & I have to say I now love you all for taking on that sweet "little man"!! I love South Athens! Everyone on the staff was very nice and informative. Check in was easy and efficient. I had scheduled an appointment with a tech but I was able to see not only one but two vets! Dr. Mosher and Dr. Nemetz were both extremely nice and were able to clearly explain any questions I had. Everyone I spoke to understood that because I am a student, I am on a budget so no one made me feel uncomfortable about asking about cheaper options. That being said, all of the services offered are very affordable. When I needed to schedule a surgical procedure for one of my dogs, they were able to schedule an appointment only two days later. Dr. Stout refuses to put down sick animals who require thousands of dollars of surgery. He bullies pet owners into agreeing to expensive care that leads to more health complications. Avoid this vet and avoid this clinic!! Read Less

I went to South Athens Animal clinic for several years (and 5 pets total) while living in Athens. I had very good experiences while going there.  Both Dr. Mosher and Dr. Nemetz are great. Dr. Mosher helped diagnose one of my dogs, and was very clear and realistic about what we could do and what the chances were, and took the time to make sure I understood. Dr. Nemetz performed oral surgery on one of my cats, and was very intuitive, attentive, and forthcoming about every step of it. He personally called to check up on her, and showed great care. The staff are totally excellent, I really enjoyed working with them. They were all very friendly and personable, I will miss them since I have moved on.  They took great care of my pets, and do a great job! Read Less

The epitome of the ideal vet! I will always associate this office and Dr Mosher with saving my dog's life. I transferred my dog from another local vet after months of poor care during a serious illness. Dr Mosher spent a great deal of time helping to educate me and looking over my dog's history.  With just a few tests and meds, my dog was in the clear and a year later still doing well. I have met with both Dr Mosher and Dr Nemetz and both are genuine guys who get on the level of non-vet individuals and explain processes with understanding. Try to stay away from Dr Stroud on occasional weekends. He was condescending and did not delve into the test results enough to provide an accurate diagnosis. I had to take my dog back a few days later to one of the normal vets for a true diagnosis. Both of these vets have called me after hours with information or just to check-in. I got a call one morning from Dr Mosher that he had been up the night before thinking about my dog's care and what could be done. They both care so much about their clients and families! The front office can get busy at times but they are still very organized and always helpful. They also order all of my dog's special food and make the process as simple as possible. The most compassionate veterinarians!I have worked alongside many different veterinarians.  Dr. Nemetz is by far the most compassionate veterinarian I have ever met.  My animals (even my feral-born kitten) don't even know when they're being examined but rather think they're getting a massage.   He is truly an animal whisperer.  In addition, Dr. Nemetz is great at keeping up with communications and works very hard to help his patients.  On several occasions, I have had calls returned at times when your average vet has been home from work for several hours. I found a dog outside, and since it would be inside, I had to get shots for it. The South Athens Animal Clinic was right down the street from my apartment, so I gave them a chance. They had a lovely package that would allow you to pay for six visits upfront at a discounted price. The staff was awesome, and so were the doctors. They remembered me and my puppy each time I came in. Definitely give them a shot if you need to get your animals some shots! Read Less

We started taking our pets to South Athens Animal Clinic shortly after moving here.  At that time we had two cats and one dog, and now we're up to two and two.  We have also brought in some strays and rescues that we have homed elsewhere.  Our pets are our children, and we accept nothing less than the very best for them, and so we bring them here. Our pets are getting on in years, and have a few health needs.  One dog and one cat have genetically bad teeth.  Our other dog had a rear leg amputated over a year before we adopted him.  The last cat is prone to potentially fatal bladder stones and toe nail infections, he also tends not to alert us when something is wrong - a bad combination.With all of this, South Athens has done a wonderful job with our pets every time.  Sometimes we have rushed them for odd symptoms that went away on the ride there, and when nothing was found we often weren't charged...and the symptoms didn't come back, either.  South Athens offers dental cleanings and surgery, and does a great and careful job.  All pets are carefully electronically monitored while put under and middle-aged and older pets have blood tests done in advance to assure their safety.  There is always a call the next day to check in.Once we brought in a neighbor's cat after it had been horribly injured.  She had left the poor thing outside to fend for itself after being an indoor cat into it's old age, and so this was the unavoidable result even though we fed it and watched after it the best we could.  Tragically, she could not be saved.  Having been a pet owner for many years, I cherish a vet's care during a pet's life but I also judge a vet's quality by the love with which they treat animals that are dying.  They were wonderful during that very difficult visit, and I deeply appreciate their caring.  In short, South Athens is HIGHLY recommended.  They also offer grooming and boarding services, and will accept early morning drop offs if you're at work and can't come at your scheduled time.  Just pick up your baby on the way home from work!  This is, I might add, how all dental visits are done.  Say "hi" to Captain for me while you're there!
