Bluepearl Pet Hospital Sandy Springs

Atlanta, Georgia
General Info
Bluepearl Pet Hospital Sandy Springs in Atlanta designs every aspect from exam room setup to patient check-ins to deliver a tailored pet wellness journey that suits Georgia households. Initial veterinary appointments typically start in areas with minimal distractions where pets can either explore or become comfortable. Staff members meticulously monitor several indicators including tail position combined with pawing behavior and sound reactivity. Veterinarians assess fur condition pulse rate hydration status jaw alignment gait patterns and pet response to proximity during physical examinations. Every minute detail receives attention particularly when dealing with animals unfamiliar with medical settings or those with past trauma and handling resistance. Bluepearl Pet Hospital Sandy Springs delivers diagnostic services along with surgery planning while offering wellness exams and mobility tracking alongside parasite prevention and breed-informed wellness forecasting. The development of care plans proceeds based on each pet's acceptance of physical contact and adjustments to routines along with their responses to clinic environmental signals including lighting conditions room transitions and sound levels. Families with pets that show reluctance in social environments or excel through repetitive activities benefit greatly from this approach. Follow-ups are designed to match each household’s schedule and pet’s natural rhythm. Pet owners gain detailed explanations and sequential reasoning for each decision ensuring they become active participants in their pet's care journey instead of mere onlookers. A structured care system rooted in attentive service and mutual understanding enables Bluepearl Pet Hospital Sandy Springs to deliver natural and calm veterinary visits to pet owners from Atlanta and nearby Georgia regions.

Probably the absolute worst customer service I have ever had, in anything, in my life. Beyond horrible. We have a Shih tzu with Cushings disease and significant weight loss . Our regular vet advised us today, on a Sunday, to go to Blue Pearl in Atlanta as they were the best and had vet specialists available. We arrived at the Howel Mill location at 6:10 p.m. The initial front desk persons was friendly and professional. After about 30 minutes we were placed in a room and told the vet would be in shortly. So began the problems. Over two hours later, finally an employee entered the room and started asking questions. They did not identify themselves my name or profession. No idea if this was a veterinarian or a tech. We proceeded to give a thorough account of the situation and our dog was taken back. After waiting another two hours we were greeted in the room by Jessica from the front desk. She inquired if everything was ok, to which I replied that it was not ok. She had no Information about our dog. Being very frustrated by this poor care, all she had to say to me was to “ dial it down a notch”. I asked her again to find out about our dog at which time she left. Approximately 2-3 minutes later , Clinton entered the room. Again , no idea if he was a vet or a tech. He eventually said he was a tech and that he was “in charge “. He also had no idea about our dog other that she was “ just chillin back in her kennel. He had no idea of any care that had taken place. He tried to explain about the vet to see our dog wasn’t there yet and that we would probably not be finished by midnight, another 2 hours away. He did subsequently learn that our dog had no actual evaluation and no lab work had been done. This was 4 hours into our visit. When I asked if the vet that would see our dog was in the building, he ignored me and walked out of the room. He returned with our dog , what had been in a kennel for 4 plus hours, soaked in her own urine and fecal matter . He left again not to be found. We decided our dog had been traumatized enough and proceeded to leave. I asked for some assistance to try and wipe some of the urine and fecal matter off our dog for the 1 and a half hour drive home. Clinton finally reappeared with a single napkin which was useless. We had absolutely horrible customer care from Jessica and Clinton. In no way would I want these individuals to be a part of my company or deliver horrible service to anyone else’s loved one. I understand staffing issues as I am a medical professional, but that doesn’t excuse the wanton neglect and poor care of our dog. If we had been simply communicated to as to what to expect, we could have made an informed decision regarding staying or leaving. I feel bad for all the other pets left to wallow in their urine and feces for hours. It’s really an abusive situation. I will continue to voice this opinion by whatever means necessary including social media, local media outlets, and animal rights groups . Please never consider using this company for any care whatsoever. Read Less

On 11/13, my 13 week Great Dane developed hives and severe restlessness. Not wanting any further issues, I drove from Kennesaw to the Sandy Springs location. There I was greeted by someone who came out of the COVID-19 tent, was told to back into space next to entrance, filled out paperwork and was told someone would be out shortly. After 30 plus minutes I saw no one so I called. I was told by the non-sympathetic or apologetic female that emergency was running two to four hours wait time and I could wait or find another hospital. I asked why I wasn't advised by the person that checked me in and was told maybe they didn't know. I have had multiple pets at this facility previously, both for emergencies and elective surgeries but based upon this experience I wouldn't endanger my pets or waste my time here again. I recognize that Covid-19 has created challenges but triage and customer service shouldn't be ignored. Goodbye Blue Pearl! Read Less

Given the polarizing reviews of BluePearl, I hesitated to bring my dog in, and I am so glad that I did - they saved my dog's life from excruciating bloat/GDV.It's every dog owner's nightmare to drop off your healthy dog at a boarding facility and picking up the same dog a week later suffering excruciating pain. He is a senior, 11 years old, but very active and healthy. Due to unknown reasons, possibly age and stress, we noticed our poor dog's bloat immediately when we picked him up from boarding. He was unable to take care of business, walk and was dry heaving. It was heart wrenching!Of course it was Sunday and our trusted vet office is closed (!), but we remembered passing by BluePearl near our house, so I called immediately and a lady picked up the phone and advised us to go in immediately. We walked in to the reception and the front desk staff immediately helped us and took him in to see a vet and have X Ray. We were then brought in to a consultation room. Dr Reyes confirmed the worst possible that he was suffering from bloat/GDV that his stomach twisted and gas couldn't pass and causing his stomach ballooned in size. If left untreated, he'd die in excruciating pain. she explained that a surgery would be needed immediately if we chose to do so and explained cost range and another staff came in to provide further details of the cost breakdown. It was $6,000 and it needs to be paid right away. I could only speak for my experience, the staff and vet were very empathetic and compassionate. We walked in knowing that such first class animal emergency medical care would not be cheap and every vet clinic or hospital is a business and BluePearl conducts its business the most compassionate way they could. We were extremely fortunate to be able to pay for this from our emergency fund and knowing that if similar surgery was done on human, the cost would be over $120k, I had ruptured appendix in the past and that was how much the hospital charged my insurance company. The vets are the lowest paid doctors and most of them get into this career for love of animals. I've read an article that veterinarians face disproportionately high suicide rates due to depression, stress and anxiety. I try to go out of my way to show my respect and appreciation for what they do.Dr Winkler was in charge of the surgery and he was top notch, very professional and communicative throughout. He was very straightforward and yet kind, telling us during the surgery that they found at least 30% of his stomach tissue was dead but other organs were fine. (We learnt later that 40% of his stomach was removed). He further explained that cost may go up and some other possible scenarios. Thankfully, the surgery was a success. Dr Winkler transferred our dog to Dr Walker after the surgery, but he continued to check on us and very patiently answered our many questions. He's just a wonderful person who cares about his patient and understand the importance of communicating to the patient's parents.Dr Walker was the attending vet and he called to update our dog's condition while he was in doggie ICU. We made the same mistake as every other anxious pet parent, became very frustrated with Dr Walker when we had some questions on our dog's heartbeat and recovery the second day but unable to see or talk to him due to his busy schedule. We however had unlimited accessibility to vet techs and were encouraged to call or visit anytime - the vet technicians would give us as much info as they could and they showed the utmost care for our dog. The third day, we were able to speak to Dr Walker and also met with him in person when we picked him up - he's just as kind and loving as all other vets we encountered at BluePearl, except that he has many more urgent cases to take care of given his position. I wish I would have shown more patience and understanding as I had vowed to be. Follow up appointment to remove stitches was easy and included in the fee we paid. Our dog is recovering like a champ! The biggest lesson we learn is to treasure every wonderful moment we have with our dog, because tomorrow is not guaranteed, but BluePearl gave us many more wonderful moments with him. I strongly recommend this animal hospital. Read Less

Emergency department has been horrible. I didn't even meet with an actual doctor despite paying the same. I have been trying for almost 2 weeks to get results. Staff is rude when I call to follow-up on my dog's results. Should have just waited to take my dog to her normal vet. I'm not sure why it takes so long to get results when they said the results would be back in a couple days. Hope we never have to take our sweet girl back because it has not been a good experience. If you are coming here it's probably not under the best of circumstances, but I firmly believe that there is no better facility and a group of specialists to help see you through those times of need.I've been here on 3 occasions for separate issues with 3 pups.  Once for critical care (Dr. Chris Piscitelli), another for neurology (Dr. Johnson), and lastly and most recently, ophthalmology (Dr. Andrew).  Each time the care given to us has met and exceeded all expectations.  All of them are caring, empathetic, and they take the time to discuss what is going on in terms that us common folk (non-veterinarians) can understand and provide us with all viable options for care.  No one likes going to the ER, but you should find peace coming here knowing that your friend will be taken care of. READ THIS WARNING. If this place gives you a diagnosis.. GET a SECOND opinion. I almost put my dog down because of this place.. and now she's absolutely fine. Here's my experience. I took my dog to blue pearl's emergency clinic after midnight one night when she had this constant, rattling cough. When I first arrived the guy at the counter handed me sheets to fill out and then rudely told me to move out of the way to keep the counter clear. There was literally no one else in the place.. and the parking lot was empty. My visit here already started off on the wrong foot. After they took my dog away they eventually took me back to an empty exam room. They took x-rays and checked her out.. the vet told me my dog had an aggressive form of cancer and that she would only have about 7 days to live without chemo or about 3 months with it.They brought my dog in she looked like she had been through hell. I was like "what did you do to my dog!?" They OBVIOUSLY were NOT gentle with her.. and she's a 12 year old Weimaraner.Blue pearls vet suggested I should start chemo and said I should leave her overnight. I opted against it after seeing how my dog was when she came back.. and also just the complete lack of compassion I got from the staff here. The vet also told me I should think about euthanasia. Even asked if I wanted to do it right then and there.I spent the entire next day a complete disaster thinking I had to put her down. I was calling at-home euthanasia places and everything. But the thing that really struck me was.. she ate all of her food that morning and actually seemed pretty fine other than the cough.. not the signs of a dying dog.. so I decided to get a second opinion.I ended up taking her to St. Francis and they found out she had congestive heart failure and had fluid in her lungs from it. They put her on diuretics for a night and now she takes a few pills a day and she is back to being herself and even better than ever.I even took her to her normal vet who looked at her x-rays taken by blue pearl and they told me that they were gravely concerned with blue pearls extremely bad misdiagnosis. I contacted blue pearls practice manager after both of the other vets told me to.. and that they should be aware of their major mistake.. I was told by blue pearls practice manager that they would "investigate" and they would get back to me. That's never happened.. I wasted $500 on a bag diagnosis from blue pearl that ruined my life for almost 48 hours and I almost put my dog down because of them.Save yourself some grief.. DO NOT GO HERE. Read Less

Don't get me wrong. For me this was not a perfect visit. It was a nightmare. And sometimes the discomfort I felt during this process I blamed on the hospital and its staff But for my four month old chihuahua Bruiser who suffered a broken femur after a friend came over and let themselves in arms full to a puppy happy at his feet it was a different story. He had been so good at potty training lately that I decided to leave him out as I was only going to be gone a short time.    A laptop was dropped from one of the bags during the commotion and split his bone at a growth plate. My options were either grim or expensive but he is the most precious thing in this world and I would do anything I could for him as if he were my own child. So this lucky pooch did get his shot at a full recovery and he is home now just a little over 24 hours after the surgery. It wasn't cheap but I managed it and I'm not rich. It was worth every cent.  They even let me run around all afternoon figuring out the funds for it while they kept him.  They did ask that the payment be upfront which is not what a human hospital would do but I did expect this part.  But they kept him for me and administered pain medication upfront which also in itself was not cheap so I would have to disagree with anyone claiming they are only about money.  They were reasonable and as accommodating as possible.  I am more than aware that most dogs in this world if they lived through something like that they probably wouldn't have that leg. We are just so blessed and we know it.  Seeing my puppy moving around at home and eating and wagging his tail just 48 hours after something like that has had me crying all afternoon. Joyful! Big Thank you to Dr. Whitley and Dr. Winkler and all the staff at Blue Pearl on Abernathy!! Read Less

Blue Pearl Georgia VeterinarySpecialists -  I have mixed reviews about this clinic.  They saved my dog, Heidi's life at a cost of $10,000 so I was grateful for that.  However; the vet was very cold and professional and told me that their patients were the animals, NOT humans, and gave me only sparse information about my dog's progress during a 10 day hospitalization. They seemed to have little regard for the humans who were paying the bills.I saw several specialists for tests that needed to be done and the service was cold and clinical, but adequate.I had no problems with waiting times even though I went to the clinic 4 times a year for several years.I fell instantly in love with the dermatologist, Dr. Robert Schlick.  I cannot say anything but wonderful things about him.  Through his treatment, he turned my mangy dog, Heidi, into a beautiful, healthy, gorgeous dog.  His treatment of Heidi and me was always loving, caring, and spectacular!  He got down on the floor and played with her.  She never even knew that she was being examined. When a new medicine was not readily available, he selected Heidi as one of his 3 patients who would get the drug. When I called to tell him that Heidi was dying of cancer, I heard the choke of feeling and caring for Heidi in his voice.  When she died, the clinic sent a beautiful memento and Dr. Schlick sent a warm, loving card.If your beloved pet has a dermatological problem, take him or her to Dr. Shick, I wish that I could find a "human" doctor for myself like Dr. Schlick! I believe the doctors and nurses here are very good at what they do and the facility is top notch. I however don't disagree with the reviews that state that money is one of the top concerns of the facility. It does seem to be more corporate over caring.First I want to say we waited just under three hours to be seen and there was only one patient in front of us when we got there plus one real emergency case that walked in while we were waiting. But for two patients in front of us I felt a nearly three hour wait was crazy especially since we were told a 1 hour wait upon arrival. At no time were we given an explanation why. Sometimes you just want to know what's going on and I can't be understanding if you can't give me a reason of why I waited three hours. Anyways, We took our cat in and discovered an intestinal blockage and cancer. A very grim prognosis. We were told our options was either a risky $4,000-$5,000 surgery on top of the $2300 we paid for diagnostic or take him home for final care. We did not want our cat to die alone scared in a cage around strangers which was most likely given all his issues so we choose to take him home. They gave us oral medicine to help with his pain and care. One of his symptoms was constant vomiting and so he was not able to keep the medicine down. Upon calling the hospital back, we were told in a kind way that euthanasia would be a consideration. We made an appointment at a new cat clinic we fell in love with recently and made an appointment to euthanize. The doctor here on examination said two things that I made me wish I never took our cat to Blue Pearl and instead brought straight here. He said first of all the cat is not a candidate for surgery currently as he would most likely die like Blue Peral told us given how weak he is. He however did say that with a couple days of hospitalization, with a feeding tube and medication he would be in much better shape to survive surgery. He also said that of course a cat that throws up everything can't take oral medication and the best option is shots. He also said while the cat is a candidate for euthanasia he has life in him and is worth trying other options such as medicating the cat for pain, nausea, and dehydration and see if he eats on his own. If he eats on his own then there is a optimistic path to recovery which still would most likely include the surgery. None of these options was given by blue pearl and these options made us feel like we were doing everything for the cat and truly caring for him. In the end while the treatments given by Cat Clinic of Roswell helped him, it was not enough to get him to eat on his own and as we opted against a painful hospitalization and risky surgery for him, we did unfortunately lose our beloved pet through euthanasia, but even then the doctor was giving us more options to get him to eat and strong enough for surgery to make him better. At the end of the day I would not go back to Blue Pearl because of the way they made us feel. The treatment options given was medically sound and correct options but they all made us feel like it was more business decision options with costs as a primary factor. With Cat Clinic they have us lots more options and talked a lot about the cats feelings/pain and ours as well rather than just facts and business dollars. Read Less

The people here do NOT care about animals, they only care about money. In the past I've taken four of my dogs here, only because it was the only place with the specialists that I needed and I spent literally over $30,000 here. It's unfortunate there's not more options in the Atlanta area for emergency and specialist vets, but they know that and take full advantage of it. As a true pet lover and someone who has fostered and rescued dogs all of my life, I find this place appalling and disgusting. ALL of the vets here are extremely pretentious and condescending...this is only a place of business for them, they do not care about the pets at all. I was given so much misinformation, convinced to do treatments that did not help at all, told to do one thing- only to be told later I shouldn't have and that they never told me in the first place, left in a room with my ailing pet and completely forgotten about...the list goes on and on. The vets themselves are rude, pompous, liars, and unprofessional. They're really just bad people. None of them treated my pets with care...I would trust a bum off the street before I would trust one of these people.Response to BluePearl:Of course you don't find it to "representative" of your business because it could discourage people from going there. However it was my experience time and time and time again. You can't locate my contact info based on my first name, that's shocking. Don't try to discredit my review. There's nothing you could possibly say at this point to rectify how awful you treated, not only me but my beloved pets that you guys took advantage of to make money. Read Less

They explained the treatments thoroughly and had very good bedside manner. We brought our dog, Lily, here last night because she got bloated after getting into a bag of dog food. Unfortunately, they had to keep her Bec she was still getting bloated even after decompressing her. I called today at 4:25 pm to check up on her. They transferred me to this lady, that was one of their techs. I asked her how she was, and she was basically dismissive and didn't give me much information. I asked if my dog will be discharged tomorrow and was told that the doctor will determine that, which I understand. So, I asked just an estimate of how much I would be charged if she stays additional night. She basically told me that I already got the estimate from the vet and hung up on me. That was uncalled for and unnecessary. Especially, when you're dealing with a delicate situation. I wish I got her name. She was rude and so dismissive. Read Less

I literally cannot say enough good things about Blue Pearl. We have been so impressed with the level of care by everyone here. Our 3 1/2 year old mixed breed baby got very sick very quickly and in 4 days, we went from being cared for at our primary vet, to an emergency vet near home and finally ended up at Blue Pearl for a week. She was diagnosed with IMHA, an auto immune disease that attacks her red blood cells. It was a roller coaster but was handled with the utmost attention, care and expertise. I had many teary conversations with the vets and techs. They approached our dog's treatment with the perfect combination of honesty, caution and aggression. Every tech and vet loved on our sweet Abby. We are still on the roller coaster of IMHA and always will be but are so very thankful for Blue Pearl. They are our new home away from home. Read Less

This place misdiagnosed my baby!! All they care about is $$$ not the health of your furry little pal!! They diagnosed my dog with bronchial problem and after 8 hours we went to another hospital and found out she was actually sick with anal gland abscesses!!! I went in at late night because my dog was panting and just had diarrhea. I did not know what was wrong but she looked so stressed and strained so I knew there must be something wrong with her. I was referred by pet smart because it was already 9:00pm and most vets were closed. I'll skip filling out the forms and all that. The vet took her in for a physical exam and said they didn't find any issues. Then he suggested that we do an X-ray to look at her lungs. The vet said he think it might be my baby's airway being too narrow. After waiting for a long time, the vet came back and said that my dog's might have a donut shaped bronchia that need to be treated. But he used uncertain words like "I think, maybe". And he told us further exams would be necessary to narrow down the issue. I take that no conclusion was drawn by the vet's team and so why would he suggest doing an x-ray in the first place if it doesn't really help with anything? Another funny thing is that the vet NEVER showed us the x-ray graphs!!! I highly doubt if they ever performed it at all before telling us all the assumptions. And by the way, they charged $300 for x-rays that did nothing!!!Next morning, 8 hours after we came back from blue pearl vets, we noticed a bump in my bog's butt and we immediately took her to the closest vet and she was diagnosed with anal gland abscesses. So here's for Blue Pearl Vets, how could you misdiagnosed it in the first time after you performed a so called"thorough" physical exam on my dog! And why were the x-ray graphs never showed to us? My dog was diagnosed with a totally different sickness shortly after visiting your hospital! God bless it was not anything serious other wise your mistake would've cost a life!! You could've killed someone's pet because of this!! I'm staying away from this hospital for good. And I suggest that you do the same if you love your baby. Read Less

Oh my gosh where do I start they have more specialist than the Mayo Clinic!  We were recommended to them by a Dr. Mitzi Schepps for our little doodle bug, she's 14 a rescue who hasn't had the easiest life.  Our primary care vet did dome blood work and told us she had kidney failure and it would be best to put her to sleep.  She seemed fine enough to us so Dr. Schepps recommended Blue Pearl Dr. Lang and het team Cedra & Lee were phenomenal!!!!!  Our primary care vet gave us some fluids to administer until we could get her to Blue Pearl they said to continue the treatment with a much smaller gauge needle; now our little bug is a Chihuahua and the needle was 18 gauge the same size used when you give blood.  They also recommended a phosphorus blocker and told us we'd have 6-12 months of quality time.  Its been 2 months and our little one hasn't been happier. Our 2nd visit was for our puppy who had contracted a wart in his mouth.  The surgeon could have stuck it to us good but said it could fall of anytime or up to a year and we should reconsider surgery in 8-10 weeks.  LOL the friggin thing fell off the very next day and saved us $800.00They're great you need a referral and the place is packed but if you need a specialist this is the place to go.....I wish they took humans they were so nice. I began having concerns over one of my cats. Monkey woke me up at 3:00AM crying. I got up and tried food, water, etc. She went to her litter box straining at least 10 times, was vomiting, and scooting her behind on the carpet.  She was in pain. I started emailing my vet who was at a veterinary conference.  Her concerns over the straining, discomfort, vomiting, and scooting behavior were enough to suggest Monkey should go to the vet. I took my cat down to Blue Pearl and got there around 10 am I think. Filled out paper work indicating a possible constipation problem since she was straining at the litter box, but also mentioned possible anal gland issues. Monkey had also vomited multiple times. I did not expect my comments to be not only symptoms but also the diagnosis.  There was no attempt to look for other causes. It was like tests were run to validate my report. But I am not a vet!  I also did not expect to see a vet immediately and know I waited at least 1 1/2 hours.A vet tech came in to take her weight and did a rectal temperature. Now I know her bottom was very dirty so how this could be ignored is beyond me.  The vet, who I swear had never worked with a cat before, worked only with some of my comments. She took Monkey back for an ultra sound and x-ray to check on a full bowel or bladder. The assumption was constipation or UTI  I guess. However, the final report said nothing was found on the x-ray but they never did an ultrasound. Did give her a cerenia shot. I asked about Monkey's anal glands and was told "I didn't notice anything"I took Monkey to her regular vet today. Her bottom was very dirty (how this wasn't noticed is beyond me) so she was cleaned up and her anal glands checked. One was impacted badly so the vet expressed it. This was in no way a thorough exam. I guess if this vet couldn't use a machine for diagnosis then that was that since no hands on evaluation was done.  I had been concerned to give Monkey her medication so while was there I asked the vet to do it. Interesting that this vet has never pilled a cat!!It is obvious that most vets hate working with cats. And I suspect this new vet was sent in because no one else wanted to. I suggest if you don't want to work with cats then say so. Otherwise get some training for your vets on basic cat behavior.  I am tired of the distain.Addendum Just got a call from Blue Pearl. Had a great discussion.  I will not revise the review because from my viewpoint it is accurate. However a lot of misunderstandings occurred which would have not occurred if communication was better. Thanks to Dr. Hamilton we were able to spend the summer with our 17 year old beloved cat G.W.  Our regular vet told us in April he would probably not live a month.  We took him to Dr. Hamilton for a second opinion expecting to hear the same and were told that he would be able to give him chemo and although it was not a cure it might prolong his life.  It did.   The cancer has now returned but those months we gained allow us to say goodbye gently.  Thank you Dr. Hamilton, we are very grateful for all that you did to help our little guy. Not only that but every time you contact the staff they are incredibly rude and unwilling to help. For example, my dog needs a REFILL on pain medicine and they basically just told me that they are too busy (Debbie was her name). Meanwhile my poor German Shepherd is literally crying! My medium sized dog had a complete cruciate ligament tear in her right knee and because of that we've been under the care of BluePearl on Abernathy.Vet tech Laura- has been such a gem with supporting surgical doctor MacDougall and taking care of Healer in the special way that makes her the most comfortable. Behaviorally my pet is kind of special needs so the way Laura has treated her and helped support her and getting the crucial surgery that she needed has been really impressive. She's also very explanatory with things and gives me great advice over the phone.Dr. MacDougall deserves my highest compliments as well... From the beginning her care of my pet has been exemplary, and having a major surgery is not an easy decision for a pet owner to make, yet dr. MacDougall led me through the process step-by-step, always answered every one of my questions very fully and we feel completely comfortable in her care. The surgery went perfect in thanks, I am sure to her experienced care. I am very happy that upon the recommendation of Dr Steven Winakur at Pharr Road vet we have found BluePearl. There was a night nurse on staff the night of Healer's surgery who took care to call me back twice and give me a full update on Healer's condition post-surgery. I wish I knew his name so I could offer him our compliments & thanks.  They let you call as many times as you want if your pet has to be kept overnight so you can check in on how they're doing.I also like the culture of the Lobby - people don't walk by and try to talk to and pet your dog; most of the staff are just doing their jobs and I really appreciate that, as my dog is already nervous being there and doesn't really like strangers approaching her.  We felt very comfortable BluePearl every time. Blue Pearl Vet gave my dog the wrong dose of medicine as well. They gave us Anti-nausea medicine for a 90 pound dog. The first one was the green box for 16mg. They didn’t even notice it was supposed to be the 160mg box in red. If they can’t get professional people/techs or doctors to give patients the correct dosage then what the heck are we paying them services for. My dog got weak and sick and for all I know, it could have been lessened or prevented. It may not matter to you guys whether our animals live or don’t, but it sure does matter to your clients. Makes me concerned that you guys don’t even watch what you prescribe, just “figure” this is what the animal needs, doesn’t matter that they are taking 12 pills a day and NOT EVEN improving. For instance you prescribed us doxycycline, my dog was to take 4 pills twice a day. Instead of 100mg pills so he had to swallow four each time why not give us one pill for 400mg. And when we tell you he wasn’t like this until you slapped a thousand different medicines on him, LISTEN!!!!!!! Don’t just give us a different medicine. Owners know their dogs behavior better than you. Yes, you guys should know the sickness better than us but if we tell you what we are experiencing, LISTEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And to “correct” the fact that they gave us the wrong medicine, they decided to “credit” our account when Max passed away for the cremation. That medicine was supposed to help prevent him from getting more sick and more nauseous. Get better trained professionals to work there and actually care about what the hell they are handing to their patients. This happened back in Feb/March. It’s taken me this long to get to the point I’m okay with letting the people know how much you guys don’t pay attention. Read Less

Not a pleasant experience with Dr. Hamilton. We came in with our schnauzer after finding out that they have found three masses in her body and looking for answers, guidance or at least empathy. Dr. Hamilton was dry and cold. Seems to be really busy and I felt to be an inconvenience for him. His only solution was to do an ultrasound and having to pay $909 for the testings. He was irritable by some of our questions and we did not feel comfortable leaving our dog in his hands. We all struggle when we find out that our lovely dog is coming to an end, and the least we expect is to be understood, comforted and guided in moments like this. Obviously this is not the place for it. Being a professional and being kind should be a qualification to take care of patients of any kind.On the other hand... We were out of town and our dog was picked up from boarding by a friend. He was acting out of sorts and was brought back to vet where it was determined he had an abdominal bleed most likely from the spleen and was suggested we take him to Blue Pearl for a full US scan and probable surgery. Our friends agreed to transport him to your clinic. We were told an US could not be done until the next day but in the meantime the dog would be monitored and may need a blood tranfusion if he lost too much blood while waiting. For the life of me I can't understand, if this is an emergency clinic, why I would be waiting until the next day, which not only drove my fees up but also put the dog at further risk. We were told our dog had an 80% chance of cancer and if so, would have a life expectancy of 3-6 months, 6-9 if we opted for chemo. We were then told the grand total in fees including surgery was $5500-$7500. I asked them to please just let my friends leave and we needed to decide what we were going to do. An hour or so later I called back to say we would pick up our dog, we were told our friends were still there, as they did not allow them to leave because we hadn't put down a deposit yet. Worst place ever. I called my vet back and they did the surgery the next day, for less than 1/3 the cost. Mill Creek Animal Hospital is the absolute best!!!!! Read Less

Do not go here. There are a handful of other pet emergency centers. I went here because my dog's eye looked swollen. They give her an exam and diagnose it as glaucoma. They gave me the option of using eye drops to bring down the pressure (which they charged me 20 dollars for ONE drop, damned crooks). After an hour they told me it hadn't gone down at all and began to pressure me to remove the eye in house. At this point in time we were up to 400~ dollars just for an eye exam, general health, and an eye drop. I politely tried to explain my financial situation but I still felt highly pressured by the doctor to get the eye removed, which they quoted at 1500-2000 dollars. I am VERY glad I didn't give into panic and came home, because they next day I asked around everywhere and the average priced was 800. These people are crooks who take advantage of a desperate situation. I do NOT recommend anyone goes here (or any Blue Pearl location) unless your pet is in a serious life threatening emergency and there is no closer animal hospital. Read Less

Looking at the one star reviews, I'd rather have a vet do their best making my dog feel better, not me. No vet is going to be able to know everything, but between the different doctors here you'll have a better chance. While my dog is in more desperate need than yours. My dog was in their care for 2 hours. During that time a sales manager came to discuss a gazillion services and overnight stay for 5 days and a laundry list of costly proceedures. We bright him in for bloat (according to our reg Vet) and after 2 hours of getting a sales pitch and me demanding to see my dog, the vet decided it might be a good time to inform me he was dying. To consider euthanasia. I rant to my dog who was suffering in a way no dog parent should ever have to witness. I looked in his eyes and knew he was dying. I rushed them to hurry up and get him in a room so I could say goodbye and stop the suffering. Unfortunately the sales manager came in first and during the 15 minutes it too to collect my payment for euthanasia, my beloved Tyson’s heart stopped beating. A year later a received. Letter to call them about refunding my $58 payment. How about you keep my $58 and give me back those 15 minutes instead? Never got to say goodbye. BEWARE! I spent over $5000 to have my diabetic Maletes's cataract surgery here. Within 2 weeks he was blind in the left eye and partially blind in the right eye due to an infection that in my opinion could have been prevented with the proper monitoring and after care instructions from the nurse and doctor. The doctor was also unavailable/off for several days after the surgery when the onset of complications began. There were no instructions regarding who would see him if infection occurred when the 1 doctor is out. I did EVERYTHING that I was told to do and even stayed home with him the entire recovery period to ensure that his meds were taken like clockwork and that he never scratched his face. I took him in for his checkup and was told he was doing awesome and I was doing everything perfect. The rubber on the head protector that I was given by the nurse initially was cut improperly so there was a sharp edge cutting into his neck. I called in and was told I could pick another one there or use one that I had at home. They didn't ask what size it was or to see it (first red flag) they just said "it should be fine". Actually the first red flag was the night when he was in the hospital I called to check his glucose levels and they were over 500 and no one even knew because they weren't monitoring it! I demanded that this be addressed immediately because of seizure risk! I then recalled the exiting conversation with the discharging nurse where she asked if I had another dog (I said yes), then told me that some say to keep them separated because the dog may bother the other dog's eye, BUT DON'T WORRY about it, that rarely happens so there's really no need to make a big deal out of it. I didn't give it much thought so if I had to leave for the store I would leave them in the same room. Hindsight, i'm wondering if this was even proper advice. After the eye infection which left my dog with pus inside of his eye ball and in so much pain that they were contemplating REMOVING his eye completely I began to think back to all of the negligent and nonchalant after care instructions. Even to the times when I called and said he was squinting and they said the doctor was out and couldn't see him for 2-3 days. That time could have been the difference between him being blind or able to see! I was told I could take him to Banfield in the meantime but no one there is equipped to deal with that level of Ophthalmology. I then began to research this process online as well. I found that most dogs that have this surgery don't remove the head protector until 14 days after. I was told 10 days.Although I found Dr. Andrew to be very nice and honestly she said she felt really bad about what happened to my boy I have to hold her responsible for the after care instructions, her absence, and equipment that her nurse gives out. I found this nurse to not only be very rude and dismissive during these discharge procedures, but throughout the process. Dr. Andrew on the other hand was always pleasant and compassionate. To add insult to injury during the process of clearing up the "mystery" eye infection they began to charge me for office visits upward almost $300 as if me losing more than 2/3 of the $5000 that I had just paid wasn't enough. I have reached out to their manager on numerous occasions with only 1 callback. I've currently been waiting over 3 weeks for a response to their "investigation". Four follow up calls later and still no response. At this point i'm no longer accepting this type of treatment. This company has drained me of thousands not only in this case but my Yorkie was there and they gave him nearly $600 worth of useless chest X-rays for an intestinal blockage. After the horrible experience with this eye surgery I actually took my Yorkie to another vet for his intestinal surgery but not after Blue Pearl charged me upward $800 for ultrasounds and useless X-rays. The stomach X-ray maybe but a chest X-ray. And I had copies of my X-ray from Banfield that were just taken and hour prior BTW. In case you didn't know this company is owned by Banfield so that explains why they push them on you for emergency care. Between these 2 companies I have spent upward $25,000 + in wellness plans, surgeries, x-rays and procedures and they will not even return my phone calls or offer to correct the problem that they clearly caused. Watching my dog wander around half blind and disoriented breaks my heart. Knowing that I spent my last $$ to make his final years better only to have that money flushed in the toilet and him be miserable and in the dark really hurts. Please do your research before proceeding with this hospital. Walking in, there were a lot of pets. Emergencies happen. Need for specialized diagnostics happen. Life happens. Clear signage is present, friendly receptionists, and a plethora of seats. Kudos for also having a complimentary beverage station as well! After checking in, a short wait ensued, but there was TV playing as well as copious magazines to choose from. To some, 30 mins is a long wait, but I can assure you that most human doctors see you about an hour (if not longer) after your scheduled appointment time. I was escorted by 2 very pleasant assistants who introduced themselves (which can be a rarity these days) to wait in a quaint exam room for the internist to meet and discuss best next steps for my cat, Coulson. They also stated 2x the name of the doctor I would be seeing. Dr. Duval was very pleasant, and he and his staff were extremely caring about doing everything they could for Coulson, though they had just met. Everything was clear about what was about to be done, the expected cost (low to high range), short and sweet paperwork for permission to do the diagnostics/treatments, and the expected wait times. There was never a sense of being rushed (or forgotten about for that matter), and the diagnostics recommended were those needed in order to attempt to get a diagnosis. Long story short, Coulson got a diagnosis and a treatment plan to help keep him here a while longer. Officially hearing that your furchild has cancer is never easy, but for me, it is how the diagnosis is delivered, which was compassionately. I brought my 12 year old German Shepherd here, due to stage 4 lymphoma, and found the actual vets to be cold hearted and seemingly only concerned about collecting payment. The support staff was kind and warm and many of them would talk to me to uplift me when I was depressed towards the end of her life. The day of my dog's last follow up after a round of chemo, I was told the treatments were no longer working and that I needed to take her home and prepare for her passing within a week. I broke down crying and no one offered me a tissue, a kind hand on my back, no kind words even. Nothing. There was never a follow up about how she and I both were doing. I also do not believe they were truthful with whether I should have even put my sweet dog through chemo, given her stage 4 lympho diagnosis. I believe they saw dollar signs only. And just today, by 5 year old German (who I bought after my other baby's death) was diagnosed with cancer and I was again referred to CVS/Blue Pearl. My 12 year old dog had congestive heart failure, which was diagnosed by my regular vet. We managed this with medication for 8 months. The people I interacted with were incredibly kind and compassionate. I cannot speak about their ability to treat my dog, but they were very kind to me during this situation. Hopefully I won't need them in the future but I will definitely keep them in mind for future emergency needs. Read Less

The worst customer service I have ever received. The only way I can guess this place treats people so disrespectfully and continues to gets business is because local vets send their clients there for emergencies. The vet we saw there was very honest which I appreciate but the support staff were so rude to everyone (not just me) and I waited 3 hours on a Tuesday night, I will never go back. BluePearl is absolutely amazing! From the moment I walked in the door this past Saturday with my fur baby to the moment I picked him up to take him home, the customer service was superior! When I walked in the door with him, the receptionist immediately greeted me and began to take my information. She stood up as I was writing. At the time, I thought she was being helpful to completing the paperwork; however, while helping me she was also assessing my fur baby. She immediately called for support when she realized his respiration rate was entirely too high. After the emergency doctor completed diagnostic testing, she provided feedback professionally yet kindly. My baby stayed at the hospital until Monday early evening. Each and every time I called, I was greeted on the phone professionally, transferred to his technician on duty, updated on his status, explained (and reexplained when I wasn't sure) professionally yet extremely kindly. To say they were patient with me during my time of fret would be a gross understatement. The lady who helped us receive our baby to take home was also incredible! I could immediately tell she 'knew my baby' based on the things she said he was doing (i.e., head bumping for another rub while resting his head of her neck, etc.). In addition to what she said, her body language and eye contact let me know she loves getting to help pets recover. It continues.... After getting home, I had a couple questions about how to properly care for my baby. Each of the three times I called, the staff continued to provide 'over-the-top' outstanding customer service. BluePearl is expensive; and believe me, you get every single cent you spend and then some in the quality of care for your pet and yourself in times of crisis! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU and THANK YOU BLUE PEARL!!!!!! YOU ARE AMAZING!!!!!!!! Read Less

The building is beautiful and the staff are great, but our experience with Dr. Lee, sadly, was not. Our dog died today, 7 weeks and 2 days after his last palliative radiation treatment for nasal carcinoma/brain tumor. We only saw Dr. Lee twice during the course of treatment. He met with us at the initial visit and then for less than 5 minutes at our last visit. When our dog went completely blind last Monday, we called Dr. Lee and he was unavailable to take our call (He was never available by phone) and we asked the operator to have him return our call. He never did. We drove 4 hours from Tennessee to Sandy Springs for 4 weeks of radiation. The staff was always kind to us and treated our dog kindly, but on the first treatment they told us it would take several hours and when we arrived back after getting stuck in a heavy rainstorm which made Atlanta traffic even worse, the entire Oncology staff was already gone (I believe it was 4:20 p.m.). We waited an hour for them to find someone to get our dog for us. At our last meeting with Dr. Lee, he said he "thought" the treatment was successful based on statistics. That was it. The only information given was that if he lived long enough he might develop cataracts. We were always cognizant of the fact our pet was terminally ill, but total blindness occurring in one day was never discussed as a possible side effect. After treatment no one ever called to check on our dog, and the doctor certainly did not care enough to return our call when we had very serious concern. We Naturally we are grieving terribly right now. Had we opted to not put our dog through the taxing treatments and done absolutely nothing, we might have still had a little more time with our beloved pet. We all do what we hope is best for our pets, but sadly, this course of action was not best. The last 7 weeks we saw no joy in anything for him, his personality was gone and he laid in the dark every minute of the day except for his walks and eating. He suffered greatly at the end. Read Less

I was very unimpressed with this place, to put it lightly. We had to take out a care credit credit card to pay for our cat's surgery. We explicitly told Dr. Hunter the credit limit of 2500 dollars and explained that we could simply not afford surgery if it was any more than that. He assured us he would keep the price within our budget. Unfortunately, this didn't happen and we found ourselves straddled with an additional 750 over our maximum budget. I found Dr. Hunter's behavior unprofessional and dishonest, and sincerely hope no one else has to go through something like this during an already stressful time. GVS is the best place you can take your pet. We had surgery on my dog for a mass on her liver. Dr. Derek Duval and Dr. Julie Duval were so amazing. After going to another animal hospital, our primary vet referred us to go to GVS because of the findings. The first hospital said there was not much we could do. GVS on the other hand re-evaluated and found they could take the mass out. Dr. Derek Duval sat with us and explained all of our options. He took the time and made us comfortable and spent time with us. I am so thankful for him. Then Dr. Julie Duval performed the surgery a couple of weeks later. She took the time before and after the surgery and explained everything. Then the follow up by the other staff members making sure everything was going well was so comforting. You know everyone their loves the animals. This is the most amazing place to take your pet. My primary vet advised us this is one of the best hospitals we could go to. They were right. Read Less

My experience with GVS was several years ago. I was incredibly disappointed with their service. My impression was that the staff there was nice enough; however they simply seemed too overwhelmed by the caseload to give the pets and their owners the attention they deserved. My cat was diagnosed with lymphoma and went to GVS for treatment. He was put on chemotherapy, but deteriorated VERY quickly. After Sam's diagnosis, I would often call with questions...as I'd never had a pet with cancer before. I always got the voicemail of Sam's oncologist. One of the nurses would usually call me back at some point, and simply tell me that the clinic was open 24 hours if I was concerned and wanted to bring Sam in (mind you, GVS is not inexpensive). That seemed to be the response to any question I asked. I brought Sam in one day because he has deteriorated very much overnight. He was thin, would not eat or drink and could not control his bladder. GVS kept him that day and put him on IV fluids. When I called that afternoon, I was told I could come and pick him up. He seemed to be in worse shape than when I brought him in, but I took him with me. That night, he was in agony. I made the decision to put him down the next day. I called and made the appointment with my WONDERFUL primary vet (Ansley Animal Clinic). I also left a message for Sam's oncologist to let him know of my decision and tell him that I would appreciate a call from him before I took Sam in. I never heard a word...until...the following week when I came home to a message on my answering machine reminding about Sam's chemo appointment the following day. I truly cannot think of anything good to say about GVS. To me, they seemed too harried and overworked...and primarily concerned about making money. Read Less

Read Less

Read Less

Let me preface this review by saying that the doctors we have dealt with have been great.

Read Less

Read Less

I've had to take 2 of my dogs here. The 1st time was for the dog getting into rat poison almost a week before anyone realized she ate it. After 2 blood transfusions, she survived. The 2nd time was for another dog that after surgery wouldn't stop bleeding. After other complications, I had to let her go. Looking at the one star reviews, I'd rather have a vet do their best making my dog feel better, not me. No vet is going to be able to know everything, but between the different doctors here you'll have a better chance. While my dog is in more desperate need than yours. (At least to me) We don't know what possible emergency the vets were already dealing with in the back before we get there. The only downside here is the cost. Expect a large bill. Read Less

Nobody ever told us he was dying until I demanded to see him before I swiped my credit card for 6,000. This company is owned by Mars. I think that should tell you all you need to know about how they operate. All they care about is their bottom line. If you love your pet, take it somewhere else. Read Less

There are less expensive alternatives and veterinarians that aren't run by big corporations that will treat you and your pet better! EVERYDAY I look at my baby struggle to see in front of him I regret not looking at alternatives. If they had any integrity they would try to FIX this! Read Less

Thank you BluePearl and Dr. Duval for the amazing care and treatment of both Coulson and myself. Read Less

I am trying to find anywhere else, other than Blue Pearl, to take my Lexi, for her initial biopsy and possible chemo treatment. Read Less

Her condition became critical overnight so I rushed her to BluePearl in Sandy Springs. Unfortunately, my sweet baby passed away before we arrived. The people I interacted with were incredibly kind and compassionate. I cannot speak about their ability to treat my dog, but they were very kind to me during this situation. The vet, Dr. Dirk, spoke with me about next steps and even brought my Annabelle out so I could say goodbye. Read Less

Read Less
