I have been taking my animals here for about 2 years and I love them. My normal Dr. here is Abby, whom I ADORE. I’ve always raved about this place and the team but yesterday, they went above and beyond what any other vet would do. Our puppy had a blockage and with Abby being out of town, my pup was in the hands of Dr. Carlson all day. When we discussed my pups situation, he suggested taking him to the emergency vet after monitoring him all day with no change to the blockage. I was concerned about the cost but ultimately was willing to do whatever needed to be done for my dog. Dr. Carlson and and one of the nurses, Nicole talked about the situation and offered to not only perform the surgery at the end of the day, BUT they also offered to split the time last night staying with our little boy. All night. They normally don’t board dogs like that. Needless to say, I was so moved and so touched I immediately became a weeping mess. Took me a long time to write this review because of how upsetting my experience with this place was. In November, My dog ingested a foreign body the day before thanksgiving. I took him to Intown Animal Hospital as they were his vet. I Was told my dog needed X-rays even though they knew there was nothing they could do because they were about to close. They Sent me to Briarcliff Animal Hospital after paying almost $300 for that vet visit which they did nothing but X-rays, which were useless because the animal hospital had to retake them because they couldn't see anything on the ones from Intown.Within an hour of being sent to Briarcliff Animal Hospital my dog was in surgery to remove a foreign body from his small intestine which if didn't happen then he would not have survived. I called Intown while my dog was in surgery and was upset that they charged me so much money for doing literally NOTHING for my dog. I didn't need to pay someone $300 to send me to someone else to pay $3,700. The vet, "Dr" Carlson, laughed at me when I told him I would not be returning to them anymore. And told me to "have a good weekend" and hung up on me. When I had my new vet call for my dogs records, they were told his files were purged!!! Is that not illegal?This joke of a Doctor doesn't care about people or their pets, he just wants your money. I have told as many people as I can about this place and my horrible experience here. I have only had wonderful experiences with this vet office. The staff is amazing - all the techs are friendly and I'm very confident in both doctors.We have historically seen Dr. Carlson, but this morning (a Saturday) I called right when they opened because our puppy was having some (kinda scary) GI issues. They got me an appointment quickly and Dr. Huggins was the doctor in the office. She was great! Our case took a bit of investigative work as there could have been multiple reasons this was happening. She was thorough, caring and explained everything she was doing. We left with peace of mind that a major issue had been ruled out and a plan to get our puppy feeling better. Read Less

This place is amazing! If you are looking for a vet that is practical, intelligent and helpful, this is your place. The attitude is one of common sense, where you won't have a test run that will cost you a fortune if you don't need it. Horrible, completely misdiagnosed one of our family pets and missed an early diagnosis, which could have saved the animal's life if the disease had been diagnosed when we initially brought our pet in to see Dr. Carlson. He withheld additional testing b/c he knew we'd have to do a payment plan to afford it; 2 months later, our pet was diagnosed with a terminal disease. We didn't have the opp to treat the disease b/c it was missed 2 months prior and had progressed to a non-treatable status. Negligent staff; was given improper instructions to clean the wound following a surgical procedure with Hibiclense and found out later from Vet specialists we saw, that it would cause an animal to have seizures and violent vomiting. When I went to pick my pet up after surgical procedures for testing, he was in a crate on the table where they do procedures and the staff was cleaning, vacuuming all around the area; he was terrified. We have taken our two cats here.  Very easy to get an appointment, very professional and courteous, and very knowledgeable.  Highly recommended.  Dr. Carlson is especially thorough and knowledgeable and his bedside manner is great.  He spent about 30 minutes with us patiently explaining our cat's condition and treatment options even when we one of his last appointments of the day. My dog Vegas (the most amazing Boston Terrier in the world) has been a patient of Intown for many, many years, Dr. Joan performed her first cesarean on Ms. Vegas 12 years ago. The Customer Service is Excellent!!! Dr. Carlson has the sweetest, most kind way with the pets, as I know Vegas feels very special and is loved by all. I cannot sing their praises enough! The entire staff goes above and beyond to make you and your pet experience the best. I also discovered the best pet sitter ever, ever, ever... It was more like a slumber party. LOL! Love dr. Carlson and his staff. We switched to Intown as we were looking for a personalized care, someone who knew us and the dogs - not a rotating place with new doctor everytime. This is exactly what we got here.. the staff is amazing, always very accommodating, fitting you in and knowing your dogs. We just had to put our 13 years old down... and however traumatic this was for us, dr. Carlson was fantastic - very calm and walked us through the options, not pushing us in any way but being very factual, yet empathetic. After calling 6 vets in the area, I decided to give Intown Vets a try. At $182 for an annual visit, I thought it was a little pricy compared to my old vet. But after calling the other vets in the area, I realized that $182 is a very competitive price. That included 3 year rabies and 3 year distemper. More than the competitive prices for a vet downtown, the staff there was amazing. The front desk employees were so friendly, and the doctor was excellent was well. She knew exactly what my dogs needed, and treated them with kindness. This will definitely be my pets' vet in the city. Read Less

Since we moved to Atlanta a year ago, we have tried three different animal clinics. Intown Animal Hospital has been the best experience (of the other two, one was good, and the other one was awful (see my other reviews). The team at Intown seems to really care about the health of my dog (instead of how to maximize revenue). The Dr. seems very pragmatic in his diagnosis and suggested treatments, not blowing things out of proportion, and letting us know when we should not worry to much about something. They are very sweet and easy to deal with. It is a good thing that so far our consultations have been over minor things, as our dog is overall very healthy, so I cannot comment on the treatment of complex cases. Opportunity for improvement is availability over the weekends, as I think they open every other Saturday. Read Less

I started seeing Dr. Carlson for my foster dogs through Angel Among Us. The fact that they are a rescue vet scores major brownie points in my book. the rescue dogs can have all types of things coming in and Intown is always very patient and caring for all of them. I recently switched my personal dog too and they always bend over backwards to make sure that both me and my pup are comfortable. I had a 14 year old cat with a severe attitude problem treated with Dr. Carlson and his staff earlier this year. They treated her and me with nothing but kindness during a very emotional time. I have a new kitten that we brought to Intown Animal Hospital earlier this week and again experienced exceptional service. I have taken my dogs to a lot of vets over the years and we are fortunate to have so many good caring animal hospitals. But I think that Intown is the best if you are in the VA/Highland area. I have used several vets for my 4 dogs and none are better than Dr. Carlson and his staff. I feel like I'm with my old home town physician. They take their time, very caring and patient. Maybe you can save a little money at Banfield, but this is the best value if you want your pet to get the best care in Va/Highland. Read Less

Our big guy has gone from pup to adult to senior at Intown Animal Hospital and they have been with us through it all with kind words, personal attention, and top notch customer service. We've been through tumors, the big "c", and countless other doggie issues and each time Dr. Carlson and his staff have been professional and given us the personal attention we know our kid deserves. A month ago we brought another pup into our lives and Intown has once again impressed me with their level of care. We took our dog to Dr. Beaulieu when he was a puppy. Sometimes I didn't feel like she was completely clear about what was wrong with our dog, but they always took great care of him. Her partner is VERY knowledgeable. They neutered our dog and boarded him a few times. We were always very satisfied with the care he received. They told us about pet insurance and we've benefited greatly from having it since our dog is prone to health issues. Read Less
