I highly recommend Riverview Veterinary Clinic if you want to make an already devastating decision to euthanize your pet even more devastating and degrading. My 14-year old daughter and I drove 45 miles to this Exotic Animal Clinic with the sole intention of putting our precious Guinea Pig, Bella, down as it was extremely obvious to us as her owners that she was going to pass away very shortly. She was between 5-7 years old, and very close to the end of her natural life (as far as Guinea Pigs go), had lost half of her body weight during the past week, had a severe respiratory infection and could barely breathe, and had severe stiffening of her joints and some sort of seizure that morning. I called the first Exotic Pet Vet I could find in the book, and unfortunately called Riverview Veterinary Hospital to see how much it would cost to euthanize our pet and was told $10.00. We did not want to see her suffer any longer and drove the almost hour long drive to get here there as quickly as we could so she could be out of her misery. My daughter and I wrapped up our poor pet in a warm blanket and rubbed her head and talked to her during the whole 45-minute ride there. That's about the time the beauty ended. The minute we walked in, I felt as though we were being persecuted for daring to assume that a euthanization was in order before the great DOCTOR BOSTICK had her opportunity to do a thorough examination on Bella. She was practically looking at a Guinea Pig that was dying before our eyes - her eyes were vacant (and so were the pig's), and she was stiff (and so were the pig's), and Bella was skinny and frail (the doctor wasn't). I explained to the doctor that she lost 1/2 her body weight over the past week or so and woke up with the respiratory infection that morning. The whole time her staff was coming in and out of the room, slamming things around and shaking their heads as though we were heathens for even considering putting an animal to sleep without even trying to treat her. Mind you, she gave us a 'fair' diagnosis with extensive treatment and could obviously make no guarantees. Well I was sure the poor animal was already close to the end of her life. She was a mere shell of the pet we had just 48-hours before - our loveable Bella who would jump up to greet us in the morning looking for her spinach with her bright happy eyes, was no longer with us, seeminly overnight. We woke up to a catatonic Guinea Pig who was having trouble breathing - every breath was a horrible effort, she was stiff and crying out in pain as we held her, and she had a seizure. We knew our pet and that she was dying and that's why we made the decision to euthanize her. Dr. Bostick used this as her opportunity to demand that she do an examination to the tune of $38.00 and then proceeded to charge us an additional $20.00 to euthanize our pet. She and her staff shook their heads disparagingly at us the entire time, questioned what we fed our pet, and made us feel more horrible than we did when we arrived. There is -0- empathy in that office from anyone - it was all a business transaction and geared to make the "Great Doctor" more money. Well I'll tell you - if she makes more money, I suggest that she use it on a cleaning and disinfecting company to clean her filthy exam rooms. They were extremely unsanitary and I would have never brought a healthy pet in to see her for that very reason. She knows nothing about me or my family, our dedicated love to our pets is a top priority in our home. We have three dogs that live inside with us, and a horse that we board. We spend well over $1500/mo on our pets and would not begrudge them a penny of it for there care - they get the best foods/toys and lots of love and so did Bella. When given the choice if we wanted to take Bella's remains home with us or they "could dispose of it there", of course we chose to take her home and bury her with Wilma and Charlie, our Parakeets. We had a nice little burial for her and tried to shake off the pure unprofessional and unempathetic service we received at Riverview Veterinary Hospital on Cobb Parkway. Think twice about taking your pet there please - there are too many wonderful vets in this city than for you to be manipulated, used and abused by these people. Lisa Tedeschi Read Less
