This is the only veterinary practice I know of that treats rats and cares so much about them! Every visit has been pleasant and I have never had any problems with them. I can call and ask my doctor questions and it's easy to make appointments, though it can be busy. When Archibald passed away, they took extremely great care in preparing him to be taken home and even sent a handwritten card of condolence signed by the staff. We LOVE Highland Animal Hospital! The staff is wonderful and Dr. Walker is great. Tn addition they treat more than just cats and dogs (our rabbits go too)! I hear people say they are "pricey" and they maybe more expensive compared to some clinics, but they are well worth it. I brought a stray puppy dog to them and they refused to honor their shelters license. They are all about money and no heart . How they have changed in the 80's-90's they cared about animals. My mother loved Doctor Walker and staff. I say they are a dime smart and a dollar dumb. They should have examined the dog for a chip and sickness. This is not my usual vet (mine goes to Lithonia normally), but there was a major injury from a dog fight from two days prior which was getting worse and my dog needed some help sooner rather than later. I called them and I came right in, I think within 30ish minutes my dog was seen and taken back to prep for surgery. I was quite impressed by that alone. Lobby is pretty clean and they seem pretty quick to clean up any messes. The vet (sorry forgot her name) seemed insanely responsive even on the phone when I called to check in on Corky. They were also kind enough to cut the pain pills in half much to my surprise, that's pretty rare for a vet so I usually have to get a pill cutter. They are also very reasonable price-wise which is amazing since they seem to be quite professional and so far, I'm pretty impressed by the patient care. Read Less

Was seeking a more cost effective vet for my dogs after noticing increasing pricing at my prior vet (including prescription medication). Was very please upon my arrival to find a very clean lobby area and welcoming staff. After my information was entered I was promptly shown to a room. Although my dog was anxious at being at a new location, the vet techs and the vet did an excellent job of building rapport with him and asking me pertinent questions about his medical history as well as any observations or concerns I had. When it came time for prescriptions there was no pressure sales and the vet even recommended a product that I could easy obtain from Amazon! Here's what I'd suggest, if you have an emergency and are not an established patient DO NOT take your pet here! If you do not have a dog DO NOT take your dog here. I called ahead of time and wasted a whole hour for them to have 13 people including other walkins go in front of me. They were so rude too. I walked out. I rescued two puppies with parvovirus and thanks to the actions of the staff at Highland Animal Hospital, both puppies survived. The staff squeezed us in and began treatment immediately. One of my friends was told that her dog needed a dangerous hip surgery costing thousands of dollars. I recommended she get a second opinion from Highland and they were able to help her dog out with a much less invasive and much less expensive procedure. My beardie has started having runny stool, so I drove 45 minutes to the nearest exotics veterinary clinic I could find. I have been there 3 times in the course of 2 months trying to get my baby taken care of. The first time, they said he had a parasite so they gave him medicine to treat that and to regulate his digestive system. 10 days later he had not gone to the bathroom again so I called and they told me to bring him back. Dr. Walker unnecessarily took him out of the room to endure his bowl movement (which cost me $20) and then he tested my beardie's poop and said that he was fine. Last week, my beardie had another runny stool but this time it had specks in it and I called them. They told me to just bring the sample in, and they could quickly test it.i sat in the hospital for 2 hours waiting on the doctors to test his stool, only for one lady at the front to tell me that all of the doctors had been out to lunch and then they got it "tested" and said that he was fine and that I just need to change his diet, so I found a new vet in Columbia. I took him there yesterday (without a poop sample) and the doctor gave me so many more answers. He told me that it's actually a bacteria and he gave me medicine to treat it. Within one day, my lizard's stool has already begun to harden, and that was WITHOUT a sample. Long story short, if you have a reptile, do not bring it here. If you are able to make the drive, take them to sunset animal clinic and see Dr. Foy. He is amazing. The clinic is in west Columbia SC. Read Less

They have always taken such good care of our pets. They helped us get our fluffy, big boned cat down to a more healthy weight and gave us helpful tips on how to capture some strays near our house to get them spayed and neutered. Affordable and friendly. Dr. Walker is fantastic. Such a happy, optimistic spirit who explains things very well. My puppy had to have hip surgery and all went well. He's back walking and I am forever thankful. I wish I could of given a 5 but the women who work the front desk don't pay any attention to you if they are "too busy." I wish this was a thank you note, but it's not. I contacted you yesterday (Saturday) at 11:30am because we found an injured hawk in our yard. It had a broken, infected leg. Knowing that you closed at noon, and we were 30 minutes away I called you, wanting you to know we were on our way. At 10 minutes away, I called again so you'd know we were close. We pulled up to your clinic just as the staff were leaving and were told you would not help us because you had just closed!!! You couldn't stay a minute past noon when you knew we were coming?! The hawk died this morning. The coldness of being turned away in the parking lot as you locked up is heartless in my opinion. I called other clinics yesterday but it seems yours is the only wild animal clinic. Please consider that as you establish your policies. Read Less

Absolutely fantastic experience! I was very worried about my leopard gecko, and Highland Animal Hospital was the only exotic vet I could find in Augusta. I was worried that they would look up something online and give a faulty diagnosis like most vets that are inexperienced with reptiles do, and I would be out of money with a gecko that was still sick. To my pleasant surprise, the Doctor was so knowledgeable! He handled my gecko with care and ran all the proper tests. Turns out she had pinworms which were easily treated in 3 days. Below avg customer service. Kept changing my Vet Dr's on me when I insisted on 1 Dr to stay familiar w/my dogs. Every bill was $200-$400 They ignored every attempt to get copies of my dogs records faxed and forwarded to another Vet. I went to get all records myself and it took a damn hr and 1/2 and come to find out they still left out info and reports on my dogs. I gave them all a piece of my mind in person and I didn't care who saw or heard. My dogs are my babies and u don't mess with them, their records or me! I have never been to Highland Animal Hospital and don't intend to go there because they obviously cater to people with money to burn. I called to inquire about scheduling an ultrasound to confirm or rule out pregnancy in my healthy bitch (my regular vet does not have an ultrasound). I was told that the cost for the procedure would be $45 for an "exam" plus an additional fee of up to $175 for the ultrasound (exam). For comparison, my previous vet in Tennessee charges $45 total for the same procedure. What a shame it is that small animal vets have made their services unaffordable for so many average pet owners like me. Highland Animal Hospital might have competent docs practicing there, but I'll never know if they do or not because I'll drive to Tennessee before I'll let anyone gouge me like that. Read Less

Both my babies - Haley (Am Bulldog/Mastiff Mix) and Sunny (Sun Conure Bird) go see the vets, groomed, and are boarded there when needed. Everyone is so wonderful and great from the front desk, the folks that manage the boarding to the vets. They tend to my babies needs and I do not worry about their well being while I am traveling for work. I trust my animals there more so than leaving them with family. While I live in Augusta (3 years now), my babies will not go elsewhere for their checkups, grooming, and boarding needs. Like anything else you can have good days and bad days. Does anyone ever have flawless service when they go to their own doctor? No. However, I have 3 dogs going to see Dr. Walker and his partners. We have been going for over 6 years now. I have not had any complaints except sometimes they can get super busy (depending on the time of day and appointments scheduled) and you may be waiting a few extra minutes to be seen. Dr. Walker just cropped our doberman puppy's ears and they turned out beautiful. Did not even have to post them with tape at all. My dogs are not afraid to go into the office and the staff always treats them like their own. If you have a bad experience, please think about it and see if you can talk to the staff there. They do try to make things right. Give them a chance - and trust me they are NOT the most expensive in town. Sure they don't have a newly built building like St. Francis, but they also are not raising their prices to pay for such a new building either.Read Less
