I moved to the area in July and noticed a lump on my dog Scarlett's knee.  A co-worker recommended Martinez Animal Hospital.  We saw Dr Brown and first of all, he barely touched my dog, if at all.  Yet he told me, without even offering to take a sample, that it was a cyst and I might want to think about having it removed if it got any larger.  To make a long story short, it did indeed grow and I ended up at Walton Way Veterinary Clinic where it was diagnosed as a mast cell tumor.  And the reason I ended up at some place other than Martinez Animal Hospital?  Dr. Brown KICKED MY DOG!!!!!  And my dog and I won't know what stage the cancer is until after the aggressive surgical removal that we've scheduled. Very friendly staff. Reasonable pricing. Always willing to help. Many years ago my cat was hit by a car. His hind legs were crushed. Other animal hospitals told me I needed to travel out of town to another hospital to have a major surgery that would have cost me between 2-3k. I simply couldn't do it. I called Martinez they said for me to bring my cat in and let them look. They kept him for a few days and the Dr was able to manipulate his bones enough to heal properly without some super pricey surgery. My cat healed at home with me and has now lived a wonderful life as if nothing ever happened. I couldn't be more greatful for this clinic to love animals so much that they are willing to help where they can. They have never steered me wrong. I trust them with all my 4 legged babies. I brought my little Frankie in because he was in severe pain. He couldn't walk on his hind leg. I asked them to check his leg and check for possible snake/insect bites or a break/sprain. After a "supposed" full exam and x-rays they confirmed that nothing bit/stung Frankie and he doesn't have any breaks in his leg. They assumed he just had a sprain. Less than 24 hours later he was bleeding profusely from his abdomen. I rushed him to the 24 hour emergency vet where they confirmed he was bit by a snake 3 times. Because we waited too long to give him antibodies his skin was deteriorating and his prognosis was bad. I HATE you Martinez Animal Hospital and blame you for this. His death is on your hands. Please people beware of this place. They charged me over $300 for an exam that cost my kitties life Read Less

Martinez Animal Hospital really dropped the ball and may cost me my cat's life. I brought Ellie in knowing she was in bad shape - she hadn't eaten in a couple days and was jaundiced. Dr. Robillard did a great job explaining possible conditions, and took Ellie in for a weekend of hospitalization. They released her back to me with instructions to force-feed her and give her fluids and medication, which I did, with no improvement. Ellie was back a few times for follow-up visits and boarding, with no issues and fair prices - they even threw in a few cans of food free of charge to help me get started. I thought I hit the jackpot. On my last visit to Martinez Animal Hospital, almost a month after her initial visit, Dr. Robillard recommended placing a feeding tube, which I agreed to. She said she wanted to go over Ellie's case with another vet to get a fresh set of eyes on it. Then I never heard from her, or anyone from Martinez Animal Hospital again. After 5 days of silence (I called 8 times and left messages), I gathered Ellie's lab results and sought a second opinion. I took her, the next day, to Walton Way Veterinary Clinic, who referred her IMMEDIATELY to the VCA Emergency Center in Columbia, SC. After thorough testing, they found many more issues that never even came up at Martinez Animal Hospital. Sure, her liver values were better, but she had a clotting disorder, and her electrolyte levels were plummeting. Ellie spent 4 days in emergency care, and racked up a huge bill that could have been mitigated had she been referred from the beginning. They released her to me, but are unsure if she will survive since she spent a month without the proper aggressive care she needed. It's been 11 days since my last appointment at Martinez Animal Hospital and I still haven't heard from Dr. Robillard or anyone else. Not to apologize. Not to follow-up. Not to check-in. Thanks for nothing, guys. Read Less

When I woke up the morning of Sat Jul 30th, and I lay Tigger, my 18 year old female tabby cat on my chest I knew I was going to have to let her go. She had been going down hill for a couple of months and I had been carrying her around the house for she seemed to tire quickly of walking. I called Trish at Martinez Animal Hospital and she right away said she was sorry and would have a room waiting for me. This was close to 11:30 am, I knew they usually close at noon on Saturdays, but the time did not to matter to her. Dr Wilkes was in that morning and he was so kind and gentle with Tigger as well as me! He examining Tigger, and agreed it was time for her to go. I cried as I watched her drift off into eternal sleep and thanked Dr Wilkes for his blessings of being able to help her to keep her from suffering further. Dr Brown started treating Tigger when she was 4 months old, a stray that had just shown up at my house. And he treated her up until her last year, along with Dr Sowell, during Tigger's last few months. I scheduled an appointment for this past Friday for my dog to come in for routine shots, as I was filling out the paper work, the front desk attendants we're super rude! The service was quick, only a two minute wait. After my dog got all of her shots, she came back heartworm positive! I was in complete shock and in tears, my dog is four and I've had her since she was three weeks old, so needless to say, I was devastated!! The vet then was like your dog is heartworm positive, this is what heartworms is, here's your treatment plan if you want to do it, then left. I was full of questions and didn't get any of them answered. So, today (Monday) I went and picked up the antibiotics to begin the first step of treatment. I asked the lady at the front desk, is this when we start to limit her activities and take it slow? She gave this dumb founded look and said, it's just antibiotics and went back to doing something else. Again, NO HELP. I used to take my two cats and dog here to see Dr. Brown and he always did a fine job with them. Then one day, they give me a new fresh out of school young woman who pumped so much fluid into my poor cat he died hours later. From having his heart flooded. How did I know this? The ER vet at St. Francis read over his very thick file and very politely explained the vet here may have misunderstood his condition and did what she thought was best. They killed my cat. He suffered for hours until I finally had to give the go ahead to end his suffering. And all the while, every time I called the office back here they assured me he was fine. Cat killers. Other people may have had great experiences with them and my other animals have had great care with Dr. Brown but that's who you get each time you sign in so do be cautious and make sure you get a second opinion if you feel something is not right with your fur baby. We have three cats and a dog and been using Martinez Animal Hospital for about 7 years now and they are wonderful! Besides the usual exams, vaccines, and such; we also board our animals here when we travel. They know our dog on sight and he is always happy to see them too. They also give me a little run down of how he was while we were gone when I pick him up. Here is one example of the great customer service they provide: on one occasion we boarded our three cats for a week while we were out of town and after picking them up we noticed they were all sneezing. I called and scheduled an appointment to have the cats checked out, during the appointment the vet said there was a chance they may have caught a respiratory infection from one of the other cats in the kennel since they had been boarded there the previous week. Martinez Animal Hospital apologized, covered the cost of the appointment and follow-up, and gave me the proper medicine for all three cats free of charge. Read Less

I've taken my cat here since I adopted him 10 years ago. Despite the fact that the front desk is snotty at best and flat-out RUDE at worst, I loved the attention I received from Dr. Sowell. She is an amazing vet with a fantastic manner. That being said, I will NEVER bring my cat, or any other animal I may one day own, here again. I don't know what was worse about my experience.... Being told that my cat was "too fat to really feel if anything is wrong", hearing "sometimes I don't always feel like myself, so I may not want to do anything. Pets are probably the same way", or being charged $135 for blood work, an exam that I was told produced NOTHING because he was, again, "too fat". It was like being at a physician who dismisses you because they see nothing wrong in a 5 minute exam. I've lived with my pet for 10 years, I know when something is off, and it's not helpful to a stressed and worried pet-parent to be told you're clearly feeding your cat too much. If you think a pet is overweight, and you've been "taking care" of him for 10 years, shouldn't you offer some sort of advice??? Nope, nothing. Just "feed him less. Whatever you're feeding feed him less" (despite going through the usual litany of NO i'm not free-feeding, NO he doesn't get treats, NO he doesn't get table food. YES i've been portion control feeding him on a strict schedule for a year with no weight loss). Right.....Again, this is not every vet in this practice. But every single one i've dealt with OTHER than Dr. Sowell has been extremely disappointing, dismissive, and sometimes, straight-out RUDE. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. I know I will.... When I took my beagle, Hank to another vet, Martinez Animal Hospital refused to release test results. They put the new vet on hold for 30 minutes, hung up repeatedly, and wouldn't release test results. I wanted a second opinion because a young woman told me Hank was deathly ill. She explained that I needed to go to UGA and there wasn't much Martinez Animal Hospital could do. After I paid $436+change for inconclusive tests they purposely and vindictively held information on a "deathly ill" little puppy. I personally called explaining my urgency and need for records(my dog may die). After to much delay I personally visited Martinez Animal Hospital only to be greeted by Dr Grayson Brown. He asked me to step in a back room and told me that he never come on his building again. I explained that after the incompetent, insensitive, issues regarding his staff that he had not to worry. He then shoved Hanks test results in my chest. I said thank you took them and tried to exit. Dr Brown poked me in the chest with a clipboard and asked me if I thought I "was a badass?" I just continued to exit and I felt a clipboard in my back. It was Dr Brown again insisting that I thought I was some kind of "badass." After some provocation I instructed Dr Brown firmly to allow me exit of the premises. He reached behind him only to brandish a gun. I asked him not t be a coward and shoot me in the back. I left and had to get the test results to the new vet. I called the police and a deputy met me at new vets office. I've not heard back from sheriff's office. I would strongly recommend not taking a beloved pet to Martinez Animal Hospital. When they withheld information they lost all credibility as vets and I realized they never cared about my Beagle, Hank's wellbeing. I'm glad that Martinez Animal Hospital got their $436+change. That's why they are there. Read Less

My German Shepherd was hit by a car and dislocated her left rear hip joint. I took her to the vet I usually use and they said they couldn't put the hip back in and they suggested surgery the next day at a cost of thousands. This was a major surgery to cut the ball off the top of her femur. Or, they suggested that I could take her to Columbia SC where there was a vet there who could put her hip back in joint but it would cost thousands. Needless to say I was not satisfied with the response. I had an injured animal needing emergency treatment right away. I called around and found Dr. Brown here in Martinez. Thank God I did. I called and explained the situation and he told me to bring her in right away that he could get it done. I was so relieved at his confidence with the situation. Not only was he able to fix her hip, but he did it that day after regular hours were over. She came home the next day and is on the mend nicely. The concern and care we received was superior. Dr. Brown went way above and beyond for us, the staff at the front desk were genuinely caring and I have found my new vet. Very satisfied Read Less

Dr. Brown & Dr. Wolf have knowledge and experience with the English Bulldog breed. I highly recommend them for anybody that owns a bulldog. They will save you more money in the long run by seeing a highly knowledge vet with this breed. Dr. Brown & Dr. Wolf handle all my C-Sections for my bulldogs and have never given them to much anesthesia which you know can be an issue with this breed. They have experience in performing surgeries on English Bulldogs and the flat nose breed. Dr. Brown cropped my parents Boxer ears and they get high compliments on how well her ears look. I highly recommend this veterinarian office. Read Less

I own 5 English Bulldogs and 1 cat. I use Martinez Animal Hospital for all my animal needs. They go for there yearly vaccinations, heart worm test, and check-ups. Dog have to get yearly heart worm test even if they are on heart worm prevention. It is a requirement. I buy all my dogs flea and heart worm prevention medication from Martinez Animal Hospital and they are very reasonable on there pricing for medications, vaccinations, and treatments. We rescued 2 English bulldogs and Martinez Animal Hospital successfully treated there heart worms and had the most reasonable and flat rates in town provided by an actual veterinarian office vs using a pet wellness clinic. Dr. Read Less
