I used to go to Avondale, and when Dr.. Grinenko was there, it was a truly wonderful place. She was excellent with my babies, and cared for them very well. I always felt comfortable with her care. I understood the humor of the front desk staff, and never had any problems with them. When Dr. G left, I was willing to give any vet there a solid chance. Dr. Williams was brusque and not terribly personable, but that's not something that I find offputting -- people can be shy, or have other private issues that are None Of My Business. As long as he took good care of my babies and had a good rapport with them, that was all I cared about. The first visit was awkward, and my dogs were more agitated than usual. But the second visit is what did it for me. Dr. Williams was administering the bordatella vaccine to my agile lab/spitz, and was trying to get it up Justin's nose while his lab tech held Justin. Well, Justin wasn't having any, and he was struggling really hard -- showing whale eye and fighting seriously. I asked repeatedly if Dr. Williams could just use the old fashioned injection, but was completely ignored. Dr. Williams was intent on giving the vaccine *that* way. Finally, Justin was so panicked that he spasmed, throwing himself and the poor lab tech to the ground (the lab tech heroically twisted to shield Justin from the floor and hit the ground so hard she was winded.) My poor baby was breathing hard and trying to get behind me so he could scrabble under the bench and hide -- 54 pounds of utterly panicked Labrakita. Dr. Williams apologized, and so I thought I would give Avondale one last try the next year; all I needed then were yearly injections. But a full year later Justin remembered (he's a smart boy!). I had to *carry* Justin in the door, whereas he had never been afraid of the place before, and he showed whale eye the minute Dr. Williams came in to the examination room. While I could see some improvement in Dr. Williams' manner (and yes, he injected the bordatella that year), that was it. I wasn't going to bring my boy back. I don't mind an abrupt vet who ignores ME so long as he really focuses on my dogs and cats, but when he doesn't do THAT well .... I went over to Dearborn with Drs. Ellington and Snipes and haven't looked back since. From other reviews it looks as if Dr. Williams has relaxed into his position (or done whatever he needed to do to work on his human manner AND his attention to the animals), and that's a good thing. Still not going back with my current crew -- they WILL remember. Read Less
