On March 15, 2019. I had to board my dog because my wife was having surgery. I left my dog there and gave them instructions verbally and in writing on the bag that I left for him. One medication we intentionally left 8 caplets, 2/day, of his 4 day stay.  We also asked that they bathe and trim his nails. He was boarded from Friday until Monday. We ended up wanting to pick him up on Sunday. So, they hadn't given him his bath or trimmed his nails, yet. So, we told them we would pick him up later that afternoon. Animal Emergency Center me at home and said he was ready for pick up. I picked  him up they did not return his bag but they made sure to charge me $114. I had to go back and pick up his bag. I got my dog home and inside and look down at the floor and the was puddles of blood all over the floor and rug. I checked my dog and they had cut three of his nails way below the quick. It took me some time to get the bleeding to stop. I looked in the bag I had left  at hospital and they had only taken two of eight pills out of the bottle. I called Animal Emergency Center and asked the why they had not alerted me they cut his nail to short and had not give him his medicine. There was no  explanation other than they had cut them to short. No explanation to why they had not given him his medicine. When you injury my pet you should let me know what happened. You took my money for services that you clearly did not provide. The person I talked to on the phone did not apologize only said it did happen. This is truly some of the worst  customer service that we have in our society. Animal Emergency Center clearly did not have my pet safety in mind  only dollars. The care you provided my pet was totally unacceptable Read Less

Coming to the Animal Emergency Center, I was a little skeptical because the Dr was not on site and we had to wait about an hour for her to arrive. But once she got there (I cannot remember her name! She was a younger African American woman) she came to see us right away and pretty much dove right into work. She was extremely helpful and very kind and understanding. She got to work on my shepherd and fixed his paw all up. (He just cut his paw but was bleeding EVERYWHERE) They ended up neutering him too while he was under anesthesia, per our consent of course lol, which was really nice because we wouldn't have even thought to ask! Which really saved us some money in the long run. Everyone in this hospital was very easy and nice to work with in such a stressful situation. And the bill was way less than what I was expecting which is great! I highly recommend this hospital to anyone that needs emergency care Read Less

We brought my sisters cat in because he was acting very strange and we were concerned about him. We took him here because no other place was open since it was after midnight. It took an hour to get to a room even though there was no one else there before us and they charged us an examination fee before he even got examined. When the vet finally came to see what was wrong with the cat, he told us the cat just had a full stomach which made it even more obvious to us this place was a joke because cats don't eat until they're meowing in pain. When one of the women brought him back out into the waiting room, she was swinging the pet carrier, obviously not caring about the wellbeing of the cat. The cat isn't heavy by any means and is at the perfect weight. If you can't carry a light animal in a pet carrier, you shouldn't be working at a vet's office. When we woke up in the morning, the cat's stomach had swollen up like a balloon and he was still making pained noises. We took him to a different vet's office and found out that he had a blockage that could have killed him. Don't go to this place. Read Less

I have went to other vets and this place is pretty good! They didn’t charge me anything they didn’t say they would and the y do provide a valuable service. I have taken pets here in emergency situations and yes it does cost a little more. It’s still way cheaper than if YOU went to the ER! So you may see the bad reviews and think not to go here but people are too quick to do that. I have been here 3 times 2 emergency and 1 non emergency and compared to other vets here you are getting great service, fair treatment, and a darn good price. Took my 15 yr old pup in with a suspected hip or leg injury. She could not stand and as evidenced by her crying, was in alot of pain. Two patrons were there ahead of me. It took probably 30 minutes to get processed and $75 collected before the dog could be examined. We were then escorted to an examination room where a vet tech took vitals, an accounting of pup's health history and explanation of her injury. We waited over an hour for the vet to appear and was told she came in from Auburn. Therefore, no vet was present when we arrived. Dr. White did say she was sorry for my wait and I stated I was sorry too for having to wait that long! She then stated she was pregnant and was doing the best she could. She also said the tech had been in contact with her by phone. She was very courteous and attentive though. I'm thankful my pup's injury wasn't life threatening. My thoughts are that this business should not advertise 24 hour emergency care when no vet is present! Read Less

I'm giving 2 stars only because our pup is now healed, mostly, and back to enjoying his life. They over charge($375 first trip and $160 second trip- for same pup to be seen for the same issue), multiple vets means difference of opinions on how procedures should have been done. Our pup had to have tubes redone because the second vet on duty "didn't like the way the first vet did them", charging us again! After signing a payment plan, that stated our remaining balance, we were randomly charged an additional $30 for services they could not list for us- I refused to pay the extra amount seeing as the only document we signed had our original balance on it! Our baby's staples kept coming out, so we kept having to take him back(also being charged to fix those). After all staples were removed we noticed there is a blue stitch still left inside his healed wound!! We are now taking him to 2nd Ave for after care. It was 3+ weeks of trips there, our pup being messed with and wrapped up, crated and all around miserable. We were new to the area and desperate otherwise we would have done more research and driven further to take him to a different emergency vet! Read Less

However, the people at Animal Emergency Center were very kind and gave me as much time as I wanted to say goodbye. We paid a $300 deposit for blood tests and x-rays plus the exam fee. Since there wasn't a lot they could do, and our kitty wasn't going to make it, they refunded $122 back to us. My dog violently vomited all day Saturday thru Sunday night. I had looked for somewhere to take him. After I read all the negative reviews on this place, I decided he would be better off if we tried to hold out until Monday morning somehow. But he was in such bad shape by Sunday night we took him there to just put him down. But once there he perked up a bit so we left him over night for some Barium X-rays. The vet thought he must have ate something that caused a blockage. They gave us a estimate and we paid half. The next morning we went to pick him up to go on to our vet. Amazingly he was a new dog and when my husband went to pay the other half of our bill we actually owed no more than the first half we already paid. After a 2 day stay at our vet he passed the objects he had swallowed and is good as new. I almost did not post a review. But I wanted to put a positive review in case someone like me has an animal emergency and decides not to go here because of negative remarks. The only thing I would say is the vet who came on during the night that called me Monday morning did not fully explain where my dog was at and so I assumed the worst and was about to put him down . Thankfully when I called the front desk the person told me he had held water down all night and was now alert. It seems the barium had pushed the objects thru small intestines into large ones which relived his pain and allowed him to stop vomiting. So just be sure to ask for a full explanation of procedures and results. Read Less

Terrible. At 2:00am I brought my black lab Clifford that had escaped from our fenced yard and was struck by a vehicle in for an emergency. I was carrying him to the door after calling ahead to inform them we were coming. The receptionist waved me to come , obviously unable to open the door with Clifford in my arms, he proceeded to open the door for us. He then prepared a clip board for my wife and I to fill out information. After pleading that he has been hit by a vehicle, he informed us that it is a $300.00 rush back fee. We said that's fine just have him treated please. We carried him back and placed him on an exam table, and was informed the vet would be with him after she finishes with her other patient. The receptionist then proceeded to collect payment. We waited an hour to talk to the vet, who stated they did an x-ray and gave pain medicine. He had a subluxation of the spine, which she stated they couldn't treat there and had to transfer us to Auburn to get either a back brace or surgery. She stated he had good rectal tone and did move his back legs. After arriving at Auburn the vet Dr. Blakey, which was amazing, stated he had no sensation of his lower half and would be wheelchair bound the rest of his life, unable to expel his urine or bowels without assistance. Long story short, Animal Emergency Center is only concerned about making money, shows no compassion, and will never be used for any of our pets in the future. Recently my four year old German Shepherd was taken to Animal Emergency Center for hemorrhaging. Upon arrival I was immediately asked for a $300.00 deposit, even with my dog bleeding all over their lobby. Once my dog was taken back the vet on call came out to speak to me. She was unfamiliar with an existing medical condition my dog has, feeling like there may be some miscommunication I asked her to call my husband to better explain what she had previously been diagnosed with. After speaking with my husband on the phone she (the doctor working) asked me to step to the back to see the condition of my dog. She proceeded to tell me that she felt my dog was beyond medical care and I needed to consider life quality. Thankfully, we opted to not make any decisions without first talking to our personal vet. The next day we moved our dog to our vet and further testing revealed that she had a stomach virus that had caused her to become dehydrated and began hemorrhaging. We are a week out from when we were advised by Animal Emergency Center to put our dog down and she has made a near complete recovery. I feel that the staff and doctors that we have seen there are not up to par with the same level of care we are used to. For them to have never heard of a perianal fistula in a German Shepherd is mind blowing, as this condition occurs in nearly 80% of dogs of this breed. The cost was $400.00 for them to keep her over night, sedate her, and give her IV fluids. Our own doctors office charged us $350.00 to keep her for four days and provide medical care for her. I am extremely impressed with and grateful to the Animal Emergency Center in Columbus for the outstanding professional care that was given to me and my 17 week old kitten. From the receptionist to the Dr/surgeon and the vet techs, everyone seemed genuinely concerned and intent on ensuring they did what was necessary to save my kitten's life. And it was no simple task. She had been mauled by a large dog, her abdominal wall severed and her intestines had herniated out. This was one of the sweetest, most affectionate kittens I have ever owned and I was devastated. They took her back in a timely manner, and while she was being tended to, Dr. White showed me the x-rays and explained about the surgery she would need. She was patient with my questions and explained everything very well to me. Then another young lady showed me the price estimates I had requested so that I would have no surprises and be prepared to pay my bill. She was very good at detailing and explaining the prices to me and they did not seem unreasonable for saving the life of my kitten in the middle of the night. Later that night or actually early in the morning, after her surgery, I was able to speak with a vet tech, who assured me all went well. It was so nice to know she was being monitored round the clock after surgery and given appropriate pain meds to keep her as comfortable as possible. Later, after Dr. White finished another surgery she had had to do, she personally gave me a call to give a more detailed explanation of the surgery and how little Harley was doing. I highly recommend this place and would not hesitate to use them again, or refer anyone else to them! A huge thank you to ALL of you who helped save our kitten. You all make a great team!Read Less

My cat had been shot by a stranger, was bleeding out all in her kennel, and they made us sit down and wait in a queue behind people who's pets were "lethargic" or who's pets had vomited that morning. The lady at the front desk seriously has no sense of urgency or how to take the serious cases first. The only reason we got to go sooner was because a lady in the waiting room let us go before her because she saw our cat was bleeding out and had the common sense to see it was more urgent than her pet. Seriously this place needs a better idea of what classifies as a true emergency. I'm surprised my cat survived at all to be honest with you. All they did was patch her up, stop the bleeding and send her to another vet. All this to the tune of about $500. The other vet ended up just having to amputate. Complete rip off. If I could give negative stars I would. The epitome of in it for the money. Called about my sick sugar glider and was told if I could get the dosing information from an exotic vet (mines in Savannah GA or I'd have gone there) they could treat, I did. They then told me no BC theyd be held liable if something happened. Well now she's dead so there's your liability. Thanks for nothing. Read Less

I'm torn in my rating. I have no doubt they saved by beloved cat's life after I found him suffering from severe convulsions, tremors, & foaming at the mouth. He was clinging to the floor, mouth chattering, & soaked in his own urine due to an error I made to administer sergents topical flea treatment. He would not have survived without their intervention. I understand that & the bill is substansive enough to remind me for that for many months to come Yet the front desk clerk was very insensitive, requiring me to fill out paperwork & make a payment while taking time to talk to a fellow female employee all while my baby was suffering. I called them in advance & they should've been prepared for my emergency. They could've easily taken all that info & payment down while my baby was being examined. The nurse was like a sloth taking down details but she did notice his extreme distress after he bit her which is against his personality & took him back for immediate treatment. I never received any updates from them. I had to call to check on his status. When I went to discharge him, there was no aftercare briefing. I felt like I was in a fast food order checkout line. They may only be animals to them but to us they are family & vital parts of it! Read Less

The staff does not care about your baby! They recommend unnecessary treatments for your animals and if you refuse a portion of the treatment they won't treat your animal at all. The treatments that are performed are done haphazardly and unprofessionally. They don't monitor anything, they just push drugs and see if it works. This place is more likely to conduct and experiment on your animal to see if their guessed treatment works than actually helping. Just take your animal to Auburn and save yourself the trouble from this place. Read Less

Took my little one in on Friday explained everything that was going on. Dr. White did an exam stated she could feel anything in her stomach area that would be causing pain but she was dehydrated. Keep her over night and when I picked her up she was worse acting then the night before. I said something to them and they were like probably just the meds. Within a couple of hours I was rushing her to another emergency center where they stated she had pymetria and need emergency surgery. By the time they go in there her uterus had burst. She has been in critical condition now for 5 days and praying she will make it. Had Dr White done a more complete exam I know my baby wouldn't be going through this. For being an emergency vet, they have great customer service and are fast. We came back to the hotel to find our pup limbing without any explanation (we think he's might have jumped from the high bed and landed wrong). We ended up here because it was a Friday evening at 6pm. W got in, checked in, filled out the forms, paid the visit fee and ten minutes later we were in a room seeing a veterinarian; a VERY YOUNG veterinarian that was very professional and compassionate. Our pup got checked, they took him to get X-rays and was back in no time. No fractures were found so he was given antiinflammatories and pain meds and was sent home; we think he just had a wrong landing. We paid the vet/treatment fee and we were on our way to the hotel an hour later. Definitely not a bad experience at all, everyone was very compassionate, professional and friendly. Read Less

Took our dog here for a stomach problem. Ended up waiting 4 hours and only got seen by someone to check my dog 3 times. After trying to scam me out $300+ dollars for treatment, I ended up spending over $100 anyway. I went on a Saturday and my dog had an appointment Monday. I just needed something for her to hold her over till Monday. Even though I told the vet this they still tried to make me pay for all this treatment, without any proper diagnosis of my dog. This is unfortunately the only 24 hour vet in Columbus but I highly recommend you do not come here unless it is absolutely necessary. They overcharge everything, walk in fee is $75 alone. Read Less

It's not often I leave a bad review for a business, but I feel this one is really deserved & needs to be heard. If your pet is ever in need of emergency veterinary attention, DO NOT TAKE HIM/HER TO THE ANIMAL EMERGENCY CENTER IN COLUMBUS ON MANCHESTER EXPRESSWAY. They are absolutely worthless, rude, & couldn't care less about the need of your pet. I had to rush my dog there early this morning when I found him almost unconscious due to a blood disorder he has been suffering from lately. He had very shallow breathing & you could clearly tell his neck was swollen & forcing pressure on his trachea (hence the shallow breathing). He had ruined & thrown up all over himself. He could not move & was complete dead weight. He could barely hold his eyes open, nevertheless actually look at his surroundings. Anyone who saw him could clearly tell he was in desperate need of medical attention. LIFE THREATENING. The doctor on duty did not even offer to take him to a backroom while standing there watching us lay here on the floor with our nearly dying dog. She simply asked, "What's wrong?" not even making a motion to touch my dog herself until she heard what happened to him. (DOES IT MATTER? YOU SHOULD KNOW BETTER THAN I DO IF YOU WOULD JUST LOOK AT HIM!) When we explained what had been going on, she then looked at her watch & simply said they were about to close down (THE BUSINESS ADVERTISES 24 HOURS. IT. IS. AN. EMERGENCY!!! VET.), her shift was almost over, & she was leaving. She then told us she would call our personal veterinarian for us & let them know we were on the way if we wanted to just go over there. POOR SERVICE. PATHETIC EXCUSES FOR VETERINARIANS. They clearly did not care a bit about the well being of my dog. And for that, I will forever tell everyone I come into contact with of how terrible of a place the ANIMAL EMERGENCY CENTER OF COLUMBUS is until eventually this place is shut down. With that being said, if your pet is ever in need of emergency veterinary attention after hours, suck it up & drive the extra few miles to Auburn. Making a stop in Columbus would be useless & time wasted. Read Less

I gave 3 stars because I don't want people who's pet has an emergency to not bring him or her to the emergency center due to terrible reviews. I've been bringing my babies there for years & years, and their lives were saved because of it. It's true, there seems to always be a long wait (sometimes an immediate life or death case comes in and, as it should be, is put in front of others that aren't as urgent). However, there's always a long wait, even when it's not crowded. The seating is terribly uncomfortable and it always seems to be cold, so bring a sweater. Their pricing is higher than any other vet because they're open at night and on weekends when all other vets are closed. They're the only option in town and they know it. They shouldn't take advantage of desperate pet parents, but because they're the only place available to save the lives our furry / feathered / scaled babies, they know we'll come anyway...and I always will. All of that being said, please don't let your pet suffer (and you, if your pet dies before your regular vet opens @ 7am) by refusing to take him or her to the emergency center. Like I mentioned above, over the years they've saved the lives of my babies. So, sitting on hard benches, being cold, waiting for what seems forever and paying a higher price, is more than worth it when you bring your beloved pet home alive. Hopefully, one day soon there'll be another all night / weekend emergency vet to open, and Animal Emergency Center will have to compete for our business.Until then, PLEASE take your pet for emergency care when needed. :) Read Less

This place is Complete Scam!  I work in health care and have very good knowledge of basic health needs. My pet has a chronic urinary issues that I've been treating for years. I just needed an antibiotic on a Saturday afternoon when our regular vet office was closed. It cost $70 upfront just to walk in the door. Then the vet recommended $350 in unnecessary labs tests. Also, the vet lied to me about available medication options.  After 90mins I left very very angry, scammed out of $110, and with a suboptimal overpriced medication. (Really, $40 for 1.5 grams of liquid bubblegum flavored amoxicillin?!!) I will never go back and will never ever recommend to another pet owner. This clinic is designed only for profit. The whole process was unprofessional, unethical, and operates well below the standard of veterinary care. Read Less

I came in here Tuesday night at about 2100 after my dog was attached by a stray.  He had a one inch by 2 invh gash in his right leg with a deep puncture in the middle and a puncture on his neck. The incident happened 3 hours prior and he was still gushing blood from the wound. I told the receptionist I didn't get paid till the next day and she informed me I'd have to wait till my check clears to have my dog seen. My husband (who broke up the attack) was in the emergency room at Columbus Regional at the time and I had to get back to him. I told her this and she said there was nothing she could do. I asked her how to treat the wound and she came out with a wet paper towel and told me to have a nice night. I ended up getting some supplies to patch him up as best as I could and left him at home with my 14 year old while I went to the hospital to be with my husband. The next day I took my dog to Companion Vet clinic in Phenix City where he finally got treatment for the would they classified as severe. They also set me up with care credit that the emergency vet didn't even mention. I have never been more appalled with a business. My dog is 12 years old and has been by my side since he was 8 week about old. Please if you have the option don't go here. Let's face it, emergencies do NOT happen during business hours, at least not in my world. While I have to admit this place is pretty pricey. My furbaby had the BEST care here! I give HUGE kudos to DRs Nash and White and their staff in caring for my Baby!!! They were supportive and informative. They spent extra time with my catty to help him try to adjust to being in hospital for the first time. I was allowed to visit EVERYDAY he was in. I'm not talking a few minutes...I spent a long time with my Boy. I had NONE of the issues that have been posted elsewhere regarding this establishment. Avoid this place if at all possible! My dog was hit by a car this morning, and we rushed her to this clinic. We called at 7:30 while on the way, and were told that "the vet usually leaves at 7:30". The posted hours show that they provide emergency services until 8:00 am, so it was clear to us that they didn't really want to see us. With no other option (or so we thought at the time), we pleaded with the receptionist to ask the doctor to see our dog. With obvious reluctance, she said that the doctor was still there and would see the dog. After a 5 minute (and $70) evaluation of the dog, we were told that the dog's leg was broken, which was obvious, and that we'd need to wait until our normal vet opened to get x-rays. I asked the vet if the dog was stable enough to wait for our normal vet, which opens at 9:00 am, and was told there is no way she can tell that just by looking.I called around looking for a solution, and was lucky enough to happen upon Northside Animal Hospital, who said they would see the dog right away. Relived, we told the receptionist that we need to leave immediately, but were told we'd have to wait for them to fill out some paperwork. We waited 15 minutes for them to do their paperwork, growing more upset by the second. They basically held our injured dog as collateral until they could get their paperwork filled out and get paid. I even offered to leave my drivers license and a credit card to return for payment later, but they refused to give us our dog. At one point I walked in the back to get the dog, and was told that they were going to call the police if I didn't return to the lobby. This place is a joke. In my opinion, the only reason they are still in business is because they have the word "emergency" in their name. In a non-emergency situation I would have taken the time to research this place and would have discovered its many terrible reviews. I've since discovered that this clinic has an "F" rating with BBB, and in my experience that rating is well deserved. I find it interesting, however, that they still display a BBB sticker in their window. When I first saw this I was hopeful that perhaps something could be done to address my concerns, but it looks like they just ignore BBB complaints. At this point it looks like our dog will survive, although she does have major trauma to her leg and pelvis. We are very thankful to the people at Northside Animal Hospital for being so kind and helpful. Read Less

I would first like to say that they do not even deserve 1 star!!! Take your fur babies to the Auburn University Animal Clinic! The Animal Emergency Center is a poor excuse for animal care. On 8/1/12 we rushed our female Boston Terrier to be seen for a rattle snake bite. We had to bang on the doors and then it took 30 minutes for the vet to show her face. I should add it appears that we woke her up :( After a brief look at our fur baby she told us our vet was going to open in 2 hours and to take her there. This was precious time we were talking about for the sake of our pet !! This place should be shut down and the vets on duty should be removed of their ability to practice!! I ask - What compassionate person that is there to love and care for animals would turn one away? I will add that our baby girl passed the next day from the snake bite. Perhaps it could have been a different outcome if the vet would have done her job!! Read Less

"Animal Emergency" my @ss! False advertising of the worst kind!Around 10pm on Sunday 21 October, I found a conscious yet seriously injured young cat in the road. It was in shock, bleeding from the mouth, and seemed paralyzed in the back legs.I did not necessarily want to save this cat. I am not in the position to adopt another animal and I do not have the money for expensive medical treatments. However, there is NO excuse in letting an animal suffer a painful death in the street. With this in mind, I drove the short distance to The Animal Emergency Center on Manchester Expressway. When I arrived, there was no one in the lobby or at the front desk. I had to loudly yell "Hello!" about five times before a young woman came out from the back. I explained how I found this cat bleeding and in shock. I also made the mistake of saying that I do not have money for treatment, but the cat should be taken out of its suffering. The young woman immediately told me that she could not help me. She never even looked at the cat. I asked her if she had a cardboard box to put the cat in, since it was struggling and bleeding all over my lap. She said, "sorry." She told me to call Animal Control. I thought Animal Control closed at 5pm. I pleaded with her to call for me since, obviously, I had my hands full. She at least did that and said Animal Control was coming to pick up the cat. I looked at this young woman and asked, "No one will even look at this suffering animal because I said I have no money?" She looked at me and literally walked out of the room without a word! I waited about ten minutes before an older woman in scrubs walked into the building. I told her the whole story. She never looked at the cat, either. A man who was a customer brought me a cardboard box from his truck. At that same time, Animal Control called back and said that they are NOT coming to pick up the cat. I was told to take it myself. So, this cat suffered, bleeding and in shock, inside The Animal Emergency Clinic for about twenty minutes. I told the young woman, "Thanks for nothing." And she cheerfully replied, " You're welcome!" I have had to use this vet clinic twice (and I use the term "vet clinic" loosely). They were the only clinic open for an emergency on a weekend/holiday. The first time was 3 yrs ago when we had a cat with an abccess on her back near her tail. The staff took the cat back and the vet proceeded to lance the abccess with no sedation or lidocaine to numb the area. I tried to intervene and was locked out of the room. The vet came out and tried to explain that it was not painful and that the cat was just scared. She also said she did not want to put me through the expense of the sedation and possible overnight stay. I told her that the decision should have been left up to me, not her. She could just not understand this. The second time I used them was the 4th of July weekend 2010. My cat (5 yrs old) was not eating, drinking or using the bathroom. After 6 hours of waiting to be treated, I was informed at 7:30 PM that my cat was constipated. I was told that the cat needed an enema, fluids and antibiotics. I was told to call at 9AM the next day to arrange to pick her up. At 7:30 AM the following morning, I was called and told my cat was having difficulty breathing and not doing well. She was in heart failure and in an oxygen tent. She had a history of a heart murmur but was otherwise healthy. I think that the staff either overloaded her IV fluids or punctured something while doing the enema.DON'T TAKE YOUR PET HERE.

Read Less

Read Less

I called them and they were like oh sorry no concern what so every no call back from the doctor. Read Less

I know this is the only 24 hour clinic in Columbus,  after this though I'd rather drive to ATL. Read Less

This establishment is just what it says it is...ANIMAL EMERGENCY. IF you can go to your regular vet during their business hours GREAT BUT AEC is a beacon in the storm. As I said, it is expensive but IT WAS WORTH EVERY PENNY!!! AND I'd do it ALL over again if I had to. THANK YOU AEC FOR SAVING MY BABY!!!!! I don't know what I would have done without your help!!!
