Weems Road Animal Hospital has been serving the Columbus, Georgia community since 1976. We are a full-service small animal hospital that offers comprehensive medical, surgical and dental care, and emphasizes preventative medicine. We provide a broad spectrum of diagnostic procedures through in-house testing and the use of external laboratories. We also work closely with local specialists and referral centers when advanced diagnostic or surgical procedures are required. Our facility includes a well-stocked pharmacy, in-house diagnostic laboratory (CBC, Chemistry profile, Electrolytes, Clotting profile), in-house x-ray, and surgery suite.

I moved to Columbus a couple of months ago and needed to find a vet fast because of my Miniature Schnauzer eating a coil for a vape this past Saturday. I called around to about six different offices trying to find the best one I could since I really didn’t know which one would be best. I can honestly say that I am so happy I found Weems Road Animal Hospital. From the moment the receptionist answered the phone I had a good feeling about this vet. I can’t remember her name, but she was so kind and reassuring that we would find the perfect solution to helping my Schnauzer either pass the coil out or surgically removing it. I made the appointment and came in around 2pm when everyone was coming back from lunch. The receptionist asked what my dogs name was and knew exactly who we were. Being in a field of work, myself, that sees and speaks with hundreds of people each day it was heart felt to know she knew us just by my baby’s name. I’m not 100% sure on the Vet that we specifically spoke with once we went back, but she was more than amazing! There was literally no wait time to see her. She expressed every option for us and cared for my Schnauzer like she was her own. That’s something that I’ve never really had the experience of with other vets. When I explained food allergies and spoke with her about how I used to feed a raw diet and was thinking of switching to home cooked, she never once put me down and tried to switch me to Science Diet. I’ve never had that experience either. When I left today, with our surgery appointment set for Friday, I’ve never felt more relieved. I hate that my Schnauzer has to have the surgery, but I’m honestly, so happy that the vets of Weems Road Animal Hospital will be the ones to do it. I hope you guys don’t see me that often, but as long as I’m in Columbus, GA, you will have all my business!!
Side note - I was so impressed with just the phone conversation I had with the receptionist, I chose this vet office over all the others with them being a higher price on an office visit and X-ray. If that says anything about the type of service you will receive. There is no price on knowing you’ll have a staff of people who are truly doing this for the animals and not just to make a buck.

Was recommended this vet after unsatisfactory care by another local vet center. Could not be more pleased with professionalism and care shown by the staff. They are willing and comfortable doing procedures with the owner nearby unlike other places that simply whisk your pet away into some back room and stick you with a bill.

My family has been seeing this vet clinic for over a decade. The staff is as professional as is gets, and the help from the doctors are second to none. We drove 1067 miles too see them! Why? Because I had been working with vets in there area I live for 4 months and all were to incompetent to assist my pup. Not Weems road animal clinic!! One visit, ONE! Our problem was solved! Thank you all for helping us. A special thanks to Dr. Cowley and her staff. I will make that drive every day of the week to have you all again.

I absolutely love the staff and how they treat my dog. Bill Paxton loves to flirt with the staff any time we visit. They always compliment/spoil him, make sure he's well taken care of, and always make sure all his shots, permits, etc. are up to date. The office was also willing to watch over and search for the owner of a dog that I found lost at the park over the summer. Definitely recommend this vet office!!!

Fantastic, friendly staff and doctors. I have been a long time customer of this animal hospital, going back to the Dr Satterwhite days. I called in November to get a quote on a surgery for my dog, then again in January. Once in the office I asked a third time and the quotes were always the same. Go to pick my dog up (they told me she needed to stay 2 nights but then told me to pick her up the next day) anyhow go to pick her up and the due amount was almost $100 over the quote. All three times they apparently forgot to add vital fees. So that was a huge blow to the account and they couldn't even give or loan me a cone for her, so that's even more. Also, I have a GSD and she barks at people when they get close to us, she has never bit anyone she just places herself between us and new people and barks. Well a vet tech came to get her after check in and was terrified of our dog (she wasn't being aggressive at all). Tells us we can just walk her back until another vet tech walked up and got our dog, whom stopped barking once the vet tech had her. I just don't think any vet tech should be that fearful of animals especially if the owners are telling you she is super sweet and just being a bit overprotective of us. The ladies were nice and our dog has been going to the vet since we got her but I seriously hate after 3 of the same exact quotes, the actual due amount is $100 more and I do feel that with all the money we spent they could have lent a cone or something another $30 I wasn't expecting to pay. I budget everything so I really rely on quotes and when someone tells me 3 times it'll be this price, that's what I expect.

I had to take my dog in for an emergency operation for Pyometra. The vet was extremely nice and professional, and took her in right away. They saved her life, and I am so thankful for it. I didn't have the money to pay up front so they where willing to except a small deposit and pay the rest at a later date because it was an emergency. These guys are amazing.

Dr. McDermott is a very knowledgeable and caring vet. His staff is also very kind and helpful. Dr. Mc Dermot and a member of his staff met me in the parking lot before his office had opened to carry in our almost 11 year old Golden Retriever. Shep was unable to stand up after falling ill hours earlier. Dr. McDermott provided wonderful care for Shep during his two day stay there. He even came in twice on his day off to check on Shep and call us with a report. Sadly, we made the decision that Shep had to be put to sleep.Dr. McDermott is a professional veterinarian whom also has a huge heart. We are thankful to have had Shep in his care during his last few days.

He was so sweet and called the office letting the staff know I would be in later that day. Well they guessed who I was by the tears rolling down my face. As I have been going to Weems Road Animal Hospital for at least 9 years, I have had many occasions both good and bad to visit them. With 4 Cocker Spaniels, the visits were often. But recently, my Freckles, was very ill, and sadly died on Thursday of last week. Dr. McDermott, Dr. Cowley, and Dr. Mathews all three were very kind and loving to Freckles. They gave him the utmost attention, and care, and for that I will be eternally grateful. The care and attention that the staff gave us, was wonderful. No one could have been more considerate, from the girls at the front to the staff that took care of him was outstanding. As I will forever miss Freckles, I know that he got the best of care and attention that any one could ask for. I would recommend the Weems Road Animal Hospital to anyone that needs to find a new home for their pet care, and I know that they will get the excellent attention that we received. Thank you Dr. McDermott and staff for your care of Freckles

I've only used this very 4 times, but I've used other vets in Columbus more and I can say this vet is the best. I have never had any issues scheduling and the staff is extremely nice and helpful. The veterinarians there are also quick to see each patient on time and they are extremely patient when you ask them questions concerning your fur-babies.

I rarely make negative posts but I thought this is worth noting. We boarded K at Weems Road Animal Hospital for 5 days when we went to vacation this past weekend. Given the excellent service and care the hospital provided K thus far, I felt at peace to leave K there. When we went to pick him up yesterday the employee brought K out and we asked how he did and she said "just fine." Edmond immediately noticed a red scratch on K's nose and asked what happened.They told us K was probably scratching his nose against the cage due to anxiety for being locked up in a new environment. They told us to put Vaseline on the wound and that it should heal in a few days. However, this did not settle well with us because 1) it is the employee's responsibility to share this detail with us when she first brought him out, we shouldn't be the ones to ask or notice 2) we had to ask to speak to the doctor in charge in order for them to GIVE us a proper ointment. The doctor was friendly and reassured us that the nose will heal completely, but the issue I have is the fact that, we as first time customers boarding K, had to ASK them for the ointment. As a hospital that is in the business to take care of animals, they could have Offered us the ointment to give us a peace of mind and in hopes of making us feel satisfied with their service. Because of their lack of attention to detail and deliberately trying to brush this off as a minor offense, K will no longer be a customer at Weems Animal Hospital. K might not be YOUR dog , but if you're gonna run a business to care for animals, then act like it.P.S. We will see if the scratch recovers fully or if I have to live with my mistake of choosing such poor service forever.

Sadly, we made the decision that Shep had to be put to sleep.Dr. McDermott is a professional veterinarian whom also has a huge heart. We are thankful to have had Shep in his care during his last few days.

They have taken care of my animals for years Last week I had to make a difficult decision to put down my sweet Jack Russell of 14 years. My husband is a OTR truck driver and I faced this task alone. He was so sweet and called the office letting the staff know I would be in later that day. Well they guessed who I was by the tears rolling down my face. Dr. McDermott was so caring and took care of my sweet girl I can't say enough kind words about the Dr. and his staff. I won't go any where else Oh, and I received a sweet card with their condolences! Thank you all for being so kind...

The vet and staff at Weems Road Animal Hospital are kind and caring. I would not take my 4 dogs anywhere else.

As I have been going to Weems Road Animal Hospital for at least 9 years, I have had many occasions both good and bad to visit them. With 4 Cocker Spaniels, the visits were often. But recently, my Freckles, was very ill, and sadly died on Thursday of last week. Dr. McDermott, Dr. Cowley, and Dr. Mathews all three were very kind and loving to Freckles. They gave him the utmost attention, and care, and for that I will be eternally grateful. The care and attention that the staff gave us, was wonderful. No one could have been more considerate, from the girls at the front to the staff that took care of him was outstanding. As I will forever miss Freckles, I know that he got the best of care and attention that any one could ask for. I would recommend the Weems Road Animal Hospital to anyone that needs to find a new home for their pet care, and I know that they will get the excellent attention that we received. Thank you Dr. McDermott and staff for your care of Freckles

I've only used this very 4 times, but I've used other vets in Columbus more and I can say this vet is the best. I have never had any issues scheduling and the staff is extremely nice and helpful. The veterinarians there are also quick to see each patient on time and they are extremely patient when you ask them questions concerning your fur-babies.

Dr McDermott is very friendly and approachable. We have been very pleased with their care for our animals. The wait time time to see one of the vets is very reasonable and the staff has been friendly.

I rarely make negative posts but I thought this is worth noting. We boarded K at Weems Road Animal Hospital for 5 days when we went to vacation this past weekend. Given the excellent service and care the hospital provided K thus far, I felt at peace to leave K there. When we went to pick him up yesterday the employee brought K out and we asked how he did and she said "just fine." Edmond immediately noticed a red scratch on K's nose and asked what happened.They told us K was probably scratching his nose against the cage due to anxiety for being locked up in a new environment. They told us to put Vaseline on the wound and that it should heal in a few days. However, this did not settle well with us because 1) it is the employee's responsibility to share this detail with us when she first brought him out, we shouldn't be the ones to ask or notice 2) we had to ask to speak to the doctor in charge in order for them to GIVE us a proper ointment. The doctor was friendly and reassured us that the nose will heal completely, but the issue I have is the fact that, we as first time customers boarding K, had to ASK them for the ointment. As a hospital that is in the business to take care of animals, they could have Offered us the ointment to give us a peace of mind and in hopes of making us feel satisfied with their service. Because of their lack of attention to detail and deliberately trying to brush this off as a minor offense, K will no longer be a customer at Weems Animal Hospital. K might not be YOUR dog , but if you're gonna run a business to care for animals, then act like it.P.S. We will see if the scratch recovers fully or if I have to live with my mistake of choosing such poor service forever.
