I will not be taking any of my pets back to this facility ever again! I had a sick cat on Christmas Eve morning that needed treatment for excessive vomiting and painting/difficulty breathing. I was mostly pleased with the initial treatment (Cerenia) by Dr. Berlin for my cat's nausea; however, I wondered why no fluids had been given to him since he had thrown up so much. At discharge 3pm that afternoon, Dr. Berlin recommended a powerful opioid (Buprenex) that he could take there once and it would last 3 days in his system. I trusted her reasons for this, even though I was hesitate. She gave it to him and we left the clinic. After getting home it all went down hill from there, even into this present day. I had to take my cat back to the East Metro Christmas evening for round the clock monitoring/ hospitalization over night, fluids, and more medications. Dr. Berlin was leaving and Dr. Lathem was taking over for the remainder of the night. Upon her fist phone call with me I was "talk down to" as if I were the one to blame for my cat's severe condition. She said that he needed several medications that Dr. Berlin did not mention previously that night; I questioned this and was once again informed that he was "very sick and needed these things to be comforted." She never mention once though that he could have possibly got into this condition due to his severe reaction to the Buprenex and no fluids being given initially to him. When I picked him up the next morning at 7am to take him to our regular vet for continued monitoring I was very bluntly informed "He is dying; this is a very sick cat!" My daughter began to sob and she turned to look at her and very rudely stated, "Well she must not have known how bad his condition was". I told her my daughter was aware but this was still very difficult for us both; her response back was "Sorry" in a very nonchalant tone. Dr. Lathem appeared in a very cold demeanor, no empathy or sympathy extended at all to us in this difficult time. If you are not someone with compassionate for a person's family member possibly dying then you should not be in the emergency business. Crisis situations happen and you need to know how to speak to the people appropriately during these times. To continue the nonchalant attitude as we were walking out the door she stated "Good luck" as if we were going to play in a ballgame or performance of some kind.
I will add this next part just to help other pet owners know; my regular vet's office has spent the last 48 hours trying to correct the damage that was done to my cat at East Metro. Many staff at my vet's officed have made comments that usually Buprenex is not given as a first line pain medication because of its high potency and reactions in some animals, especially cats. My cat is still hospitalized as I write this; he was in a very fragile state when we got him there yesterday. However, they are more hopeful today that he will make it through, as he is responding to their thoughtful, wise treatment plan. Read Less

I was happy with the service I received. The doctor's advice and injection he gave my girl helped get her through the night so we could make it to our regular vet the next morning. The price wasn't too bad. I would drive 45 minutes to go here again, rather than go to Woodland, which is 5 minutes from my house. SAVES in Fayetteville looks very expensive too. When it used to be Southern Crescent it was not that fancy. Any emergency vets office that resembles a ski lodge or fancy hotel makes me think they're making me pay top dollar for their services so they can have all this extra stuff. No thanks, just have the ability to save my dog and ask for a reasonable fee. Read Less

Horrible experience!! No Compassion!! Money Hungry!! When your dog is dying the only thing on your mind is saving your pet, that's why you rush to a Emergency Animal Clinic. I came in with my 3 year old dog because she was having a seizure and I did not know what was causing it. I called before bringing her in and they informed me that it would be 110.00 to see her so that's what I was prepared to pay but by the end of the visit it came to over 2,000.00 to try to save her and they would not do anything to try and save until the payment of 2,000 was made that day. I could not afford that but could do a payment plan but unfortunately they did not have that to offer. What made it worse was one of the female employees got a really nasty attitude and started to go on a rant about how they use to offer payment plans and they almost went bankrupt and had to close. I do believe my dog would be alive today if I just took her to another Animal Hospital. I really do regret ever stepping foot in that place. Words can't express how horrible they made me feel. I have never been so mortified in my life. Our cat needed a c-section because there was obviously 2-3 additional kittens still inside. FIRST the said they had to do an xray to see AFTER they already said there's no doubt there's other kittens. They said theyd work out an estimate but said it would be between Two and Three THOUSAND dollars... We were like ...HUH???? We have other cats, have had many dog and have had many horses in the past and our Vet Dr. Sigman wouldnt charge more the 750.00. They said "Well this is an emergency clinic". We declined their work and asked for our cat and three kittens she already had back into our possession. Within moments on the other side of the door a woman said "isnt that how people are" and laughed...My wife could have killed at that moment but instead cried in anger.
It together forever to get our girl and her kittens back after paying $105 dollars for absolutely NOTHING we havent already told them. She ended by saying theyve had problems like this before and all I could do was look at her and say "I no doubt am sure you have"
This is by far the WORST animal clinic I have ever visited. The doctor in the beginning was good but the woman that came on at 8 oclock was a complete idiot, Leslie Lathem.
Even looking at the bill they have domestic medium hair cat as the breed where we clearly stated she was a Maine Coon that had long hair....what idiots!

East Metro Animal Emergency Clinic went above and beyond to help me on 3 different occasions. They are very compassionate and know what they are doing. Yes, it is true that emergency medicine is more expensive than a day practice would be, but isn't that the case in human medicine too? They are honest and fair. They give you an estimate for any charges prior to incurring any charges. There is no "sticker shock" and do everything they can to work within your budget. If you are a long-time pet owner like I am, you know that pet services are not free or cheap. Just the nature of the beast. I have a separate account for my babies for that reason alone. I am so glad they have been there to help my babies when no one else was open. Thank you for taking the time away from your families to help mine. You guys ROCK!

Read Less

I took my dog to East Metro for an injury that couldn't wait until my vet's office opened the following Monday. My dog was taken back almost immediately. I was shown to an exam room and waited for the vet. Dr. Kidd was very kind and explained everything they needed to do for my dog. Sarah came in a few minutes later to discuss the fees. I never felt rushed, or that they were "just after my money". My dog and I were treated fairly and respectfully. While I hope I don't have to return, I won't hesitate to come back. Read Less

Over all a good visit. We did not like the fact that they wanted to take our dog away from us in the back to examine her. We opposed, they stressed their policies and need for them, we opposed again, and they agreeed to let us stay with her for everything. We would have left if they had not. It was pricey, but that was to be expected from a weekend visit to an emergency vet. This was not a life or death visit, so we were satisfied with her treatment. Read Less

Did not do enough to stabilize my baby. We had the payment option approval but guess it wasn't enough for them to help him. In his condition they should have made what he needed the most. Hopefully they at least gave him the drug they said they would to ease the pain he had to be in. We left feeling the money was the primary focus and the humane efforts last. I'm so crushed my baby passed there 5 minutes after the family who loved him left to come back and get him in the morning. Thought we did best for him to stay overnight.
Id recommend going anywhere BUT this facility, Absolutely the worst animal clinic in the state of Georgia...ok ok ok most of Geaorgia Read Less

Read Less
