I was completely shocked at the lack of compassion, care and professionalism at this vet. The owner of the practice was extremely rude and spewed harsh, unnecessary words to a person who was already upset over the life of a sweet kitty. We had to take our neighbors cat who had been attacked and bitten by something bc they were uninterested in taking care of it so the trip to the vet as well as the cost fell to us. I called around a few places to find one who could see him right away as we did not know how serious the wounds were. I was really worried and upset over the situation. We had been assured that a doctor was available here just 7 mins before we arrived. First thing we were told by the nurse was that if the cat had rabies they may have to cut off his head and send it to a lab for testing. Second thing was all of the sudden no one was available. When they finally came for him the nurse grabbed him by the neck right by the wound and it scared me so I turned my back and said please just go ahead and take him back. They brought him back about 5 mins later and while the doctor was very nice and the first decent person we encountered there, I think they might have done a rush job due to overbooking and the fact that the owner was angry with us and clearly did not care as this is what he said and I quote: “I’m not going to stop what I’m doing just to look at a cat.” Then accused us of making one of the technicians cry though wasn’t even clear who or what we allegedly did. Was it because we asked what was taking so long and then were told now no one was available and said that we had gone there instead of somewhere else specifically since they promised someone would be? Was it because I was already scared and upset and when the nurse grabbed him I got scared and had a nervous reaction? You would think that wouldn’t have been the first time they’d seen that from a worried pet owner. Or maybe because we were upset that first thing we were told was that if the cat had rabies it would be killed? We didn’t yell at anyone or call them names or do ANYTHING to warrant what the owner came out and said to us, especially making it clear he didn’t care about this animal by saying he wasn’t going to stop what he’s doing just for some cat. Oh AND to top it all off they massively overcharge and even added in a “Forsyth animal control fee” and “medical waste disposal fee.” Wtf are those even for? All they did was give him a shot. The one good thing was the sweet female doctor who came out to us and told us what they did to treat the cat. Please look around at any other place because this was truly a horrific experience. When people are upset over someone they care about they might not have the calmest demeanor and I cannot believe this owner would make a point to punish us for it making an already upsetting experience so much worse. They are rude and only care about those who have a lot of money. I had high hopes about this place, but I'll never be returning. If I could I would give them zero stars because they don't know what it means to really take care of a customer especially one with a baby animal who was terrified. Hope you guys close down. I took my dog and cat to FAH when I moved to cumming. They are excellent with every element of care from vaccination reminders to diagnosis of major and minor illnesses and they were always amazing. Five years later, I moved to Atlanta and would never even think about taking my animals to any place else. I make the 25 mile trek for vaccinations, diagnoses, injuries, and emergencies. In the recent past, my 16 year old dog kept getting so weak and wouldn't eat. She got worse and worse. I thought she was starting her death spiral and it appeared to be coming on so quickly. so I took her in as an emergency situation and dr Avra was so kind. He said my dog was not ready to die. She needed an IV because she was dehydrated and he also gave her a steroid shot. She perked up and got so much better. The same thing happened six months later, we called to tell the staff we were on our way with her and that she was unconscious and started what appeared to be seizures. They took her back immediately bypassing all checkin procedures. Dr Avra talked to us about why it might be time to begin thinking about putting her down, but he treated her again and she lived another two months. We knew she was getting weaker and weaker, but after talking with dr Avra so much we knew what to look for and we were able to let her quietly die in our arms. The staff is amazing I would never take my animals anywhere else. Read Less

This is an exceptional practice! My black lab was diagnosed with scrotal cancer by my regular vet in Marietta. After a trip to a specialty vet in Atlanta, a consult, and an estimate on surgery and chemotherapy that I could not afford, my vet recommended Dr. Avra in Cumming. He performed the extensive surgery, which involved much more than was originally estimated, and managed weekly chemotherapy treatments for much more affordable care. Over and above the affordability is the level of compassion, care, encouragement and love for "All God's Creatures Great and Small", that Dr. Avra and his entire team showed for my beloved pet. This practice has given me, my family and wonderful dog many more months of beautiful quality companionship. Read Less

Since we are new to Atlanta we were interested in finding a caring, reasonably priced vet for our older dog.  We had taken him to John's Creek Veterinary Hospital twice, however I felt as though they never handled the issue and wanted to do expensive, unnecessary tests/surgery.  After a bit of research my husband found Forsyth Animal Hospital and we couldn't be happier.  Dr. Dodson is reasonable in her approach (he's an old dog, let's not put him through unnecessary procedures), caring and prompt.  We will gladly recommend this vet to anyone. Decided to check this place out for a different opinion on my girl Jack Russell who has skin allergies. I've taken her to the same vet for several years with no improvement, she was scratching so much that made her neck bleed and stomach severely red. Tried everything from changing diet to allergy meds--when I suggested maybe she had a yeast infection, I was quickly dismissed. I finally decided to take her elsewhere, found out from Dr. Woods that in fact she did have a yeast infection that added to her itching. So she was placed on steroid and anti-bacterial. And bam all cleared up. So thankful a vet actually listened and tested correctly :) Read Less

Too bad I can only give 5 stars. I LOVE Forsyth Animal Hospital. Dr. Wood is our Veterinarian. She is amazing! I was lucky enough to be able to save a little 3 month old puppy, that only weighed 6 pounds (from a kill shelter). She was possibly thrown from a car. She was so very sick and had stopped eating. Her legs were a mess. Dr. Wood did her magic and got our little pup eating and feeling better in no time. Her compassion towards Arya was heartwarming. She went over and above with her. She even had Dr. Avra check her legs out. He was able to recommend exercises that helped tremendously. All my animals now go to Dr. Wood as I only want the very best for my animals. I am only writing this review after not 1, but 2 bad experiences with  Forsyth Animal Hospital. The first time was a year ago when our dog had some behavioral issues. Seeking advise to help calm our beloved family dogs anxiety issues in which he had snapped and growled at us a handful of times...Forsyth County Animal Hospitals Dr. Wood who is also the Medical Director for the Forsyth County Humane Society, advised us to euthanize our dog. I was quite taken back as I thought a vet would suggest this measure as an absolute last result. We certainly did not take her advise, and over the past year worked lovingly with him helping him to feel more secure. This week we again had a visit with Dr. Wood to look at a skin ailment on our dog. Let me mention here that that same dog recently had three shots at a shot clinic and behaved perfectly...but when Dr. Wood approached our dog he growled. He did not snap, or threaten to bite. He growled. Which for an animal with a tender spot is completely understandable. Now I am not defending our dog growling. I wish he didn't. But the point is Dr. Wood was enraged. I proceeded to get a harsh lecture about how my dog nearly but her in the face, which was a total exaggeration. She said, "Didn't I talk to you a year ago about what you should do with this dog?!" I don't know, maybe it's me, but I would think a vets go to wouldn't be to euthanize a beloved family pet upon a simple growl. I think my advise would be for Dr. Wood to find a different career. We found Forsyth Animal Hospital and Dr. Avra by accident and we are so thankful that we did. Our Chihuahua fell down 3 stairs over a weekend. On Monday morning, after still hopping around all day Sunday, we took him to vet office close to our house (our regular vet is more of a well clinic so they told us they couldn't see us for an injury). Upon getting an x-ray, we were given the devastating news that he'd broken 3 bones in his paw. This vet referred us to an Emergency vet in Alpharetta and told us to expect surgery involving pins and screws. She warned us that it would likely cost **thousands** of dollars. After going back and forth with the referral clinic (I never had a good feeling about them from the start) I was able to get an appointment a few days later, fully expecting surgery. The morning of the appointment I couldn't remember my appointment time so I Googled the clinic to get their phone number. The first thing I saw in the Google results were reviews...very, very bad reviews. Stories of being ripped off, stories of pets dying because of poor care, enough to scare me into canceling the appointment. But one of the last reviews mentioned Forsyth Animal Hospital as a great place that really cares for your pet, so I decided to give them a call. The lady who answered the phone quietly listed to my story, through tears and sniffles, and when I finally finished sharing our predicament she assured me that Dr. Avra could help us. He wasn't in the office, but she had been texting him while I was talking and he told her he'd meet me at the office later that morning. I immediately had a sense of comfort, and I hadn't even met the doctor yet. When I arrived, I was greeted by several staff members who immediately starting gushing over my Sammy. They all petted him, talked to him, and I really felt like they cared for us. Dr. Avra did a thorough evaluation and it was his recommendation that surgery was NOT the only option. In fact surgery would likely not produce much more of a positive outcome that simple casting could provide, given that our pet wasn't a super active dog (he's not running with me daily or a hunting dog, etc). So we casted his leg and so far Sammy is going great and we spent a couple of hundred dollars rather than several thousands of dollars! We just went in for our 2-week follow up and were greeted and treated with the same hospitality that we received on our first visit. I can not say enough how happy I am that I found the recommendation for Forsyth Animal hospital and trusted my gut instinct to cancel the other appointment. Overall, what I've realized after having our first pet injury/sickness is that having a family doctor for your fur babies is very similar to having a good pediatrician for your kids. You need someone who you can trust, who won't rip you off, who truly cares about the patient (and their family), and who makes you feel comfortable - I have found that with Dr. Avra and Forsyth Animal Hospital!!! I highly recommend them. You and your pet will love them!!! Read Less

So, Prinni had nine teeth and the tumor removed. The surgery went well and her ankle looks great. Since the removal of her bad teeth, Prinni has gained six ounces. I had an appointment this morning at 10:30. I arrived at 10:20 and had my ten week old kitten. We were ignored and got skipped until 10:50. I do not recommend this place to anyone.

That's a lot for a 6 1/2 pound kitty, especially since the weight gain was in only twelve days. I credit Dr. Avra for Prinni's weight gain since discovered her problem teeth.
