We found Forsyth Animal Hospital and Dr. Avra by accident and we are so thankful that we did. Our Chihuahua fell down 3 stairs over a weekend. On Monday morning, after still hopping around all day Sunday, we took him to vet office close to our house (our regular vet is more of a well clinic so they told us they couldn't see us for an injury). Upon getting an x-ray, we were given the devastating news that he'd broken 3 bones in his paw. This vet referred us to an Emergency vet in Alpharetta and told us to expect surgery involving pins and screws. She warned us that it would likely cost **thousands** of dollars.
After going back and forth with the referral clinic (I never had a good feeling about them from the start) I was able to get an appointment a few days later, fully expecting surgery. The morning of the appointment I couldn't remember my appointment time so I Googled the clinic to get their phone number. The first thing I saw in the Google results were reviews...very, very bad reviews. Stories of being ripped off, stories of pets dying because of poor care, enough to scare me into canceling the appointment. But one of the last reviews mentioned Forsyth Animal Hospital as a great place that really cares for your pet, so I decided to give them a call.
The lady who answered the phone quietly listed to my story, through tears and sniffles, and when I finally finished sharing our predicament she assured me that Dr. Avra could help us. He wasn't in the office, but she had been texting him while I was talking and he told her he'd meet me at the office later that morning. I immediately had a sense of comfort, and I hadn't even met the doctor yet.
When I arrived, I was greeted by several staff members who immediately starting gushing over my Sammy. They all petted him, talked to him, and I really felt like they cared for us. Dr. Avra did a thorough evaluation and it was his recommendation that surgery was NOT the only option. In fact surgery would likely not produce much more of a positive outcome that simple casting could provide, given that our pet wasn't a super active dog (he's not running with me daily or a hunting dog, etc). So we casted his leg and so far Sammy is going great and we spent a couple of hundred dollars rather than several thousands of dollars!
We just went in for our 2-week follow up and were greeted and treated with the same hospitality that we received on our first visit. I can not say enough how happy I am that I found the recommendation for Forsyth Animal hospital and trusted my gut instinct to cancel the other appointment.
Overall, what I've realized after having our first pet injury/sickness is that having a family doctor for your fur babies is very similar to having a good pediatrician for your kids. You need someone who you can trust, who won't rip you off, who truly cares about the patient (and their family), and who makes you feel comfortable - I have found that with Dr. Avra and Forsyth Animal Hospital!!! I highly recommend them. You and your pet will love them!!! Read Less
