Went here for the first time and was very pleased.  The lobby is very nice, exam rooms are what I would expect in Vet clinic,  the staff at the front desk on the ball with the questions regarding my dog's records from my former and now retired Vet.   Both Vet techs were friendly and very good with my dog.   Dr. Seth Cohn was excellent.   He explained what he thought the growth was, why certain testing was needed, the results and gave me two options on how to best handle it.  Very clear and concise explanation that was at a level I could completely understand.    My dog, Jack and I have found him a new Veterinary home.   I was very impressed throughout my first time visit with them. This place is stuck in the early 80s. Like another reviewer mentioned, the condition of the entire building is absolutely disgusting. I came by for a tour because I am new to the state and wanted somewhere close. The equipment they used was so outdated and dysfunctional that they had to tilt or beat the poor machine to work properly. Why are they still using mercury filled thermometers in 2017? There's dust, dirt, rust, grim, and mildew coming from the hanging roof. The back where the dogs/cats boarded and bathe is so gross, it looks like a dungeon. They only get checked on or let out twice a day if the staff gets around to it. I am a veterinary assistant and I can't believe they allow this doctor to continue running business this way. I had to get out of there in fear a rat would come scurrying out. To add insult to injury, Dr. Fordyce is so short with people and rude, even to her clients. I would never bring or board my pet at a place like this. Read Less

My sweet angel, Ernest, has been a patient of Dr. Fordyce since we moved to the Decatur area, about four years ago.  Our beloved vets in Athens recommended Dr. Fordyce to us, as they attended vet school with her at my alma mater, the University of Georgia. I've noticed two trends in the reviews of Church Street Animal Hospital--reviewers who say Dr. Fordyce is the most competent vet ever and reviewers who say she is rude.  Personally I agree that she is an incredibly competent vet.  I am surprised by those who say she tries to up-sell them.  She is actually very respectful of her patients' budgets and never offers unnecessary tests or services. To address those who say she is rude--I don't choose my dog child's vet based on how they treat me or their staff.  I choose his vet based on their competence, experience, and compassion for animals--which is exactly why I continue to take him to Dr. Fordyce and refer friends and neighbors to her as well.  That being said, she is not rude to me, nor has she been.  She also is not Susie Sunshine--so what?  To the person who said this place is filthy, I imagine you are referring to the older style decor of the place.  It's definitely not decorated like the Property Brothers have been there, but it is clean.  If you choose your animal's vet based on the appearance of the place, then don't come here.  But, the decor has absolutely no impact on the kind of veterinary medicine being practiced here.  If you want all the bells and whistles, go on over the the Village Vets, where they will make you feel like a bad dog parent if you don't have $1000s to drop on your baby for a visit.  As far as prices, for a veterinarian with the level of experience and ability Dr. Fordyce has, this place is reasonable.  All veterinarian visits are pricey, and if you can't handle that, being a pet owner may not be the best thing for you.   To sum up this review, if what matters to you is the quality of your pet's care and the competence and compassion of the vet and staff, then go to Church Street Animal Hospital.  If you are looking for Susie Sunshine, all the bells and whistles, and beautiful surroundings, this is not the place for you. This place is absolutely filthy! The staff is completely disengaged. The front desk receptionist is very nice but she is clearly the exception to those that they hired to work here. The doctors try to upsell you on every possible service.I actually witnessed one of the doctors swearing at the receptionist at the front desk while they were other clients in the waiting room. Her rudeness is clearly contagious with the rest of the staff. Time to find a new veterinarian. And by the way, you can't schedule any service more than four weeks out because they "don't have the schedule yet."As a bonus, they will try to Shame you if you refuse their suggestions. Read Less

I am a former employee, and this was the worst place I've ever worked in my life! Dr. Fordyce is EXTREMELY rude to her employees, plays favoritism, treats employees like slaves, and treats them like they are nothing, even in front of clients! She has a high employee turn over rate because people get fed up with her cruelty, and the negative environment she creates, and they quit!! It's like, no matter how hard your work for her, how much you bend yourself for her, it's never good enough! One wrong move and you become her biggest enemy. I initially wasn't going to write this review, but even though I quit more than 3-4 months ago, I'm still feeling a bit traumatized form the experience of working for her. I mean, it's gotta say something when clients felt compelled to apologize to me on her behalf. Many of her clients are long time clients and friends who have learned to put up with her attitude. And, many of them were very kind to me because they saw the way Dr. Fordyce treated us. I don't don't like to speak ill of people, especially my elders, but working at Church St Animal Hospital was the worst experience of my life! I get panic attacks thinking about that place! Read Less

Dr Fordyce is incredibly RUDE! I've owned cats my entire life & our older male cat started having problems with peeing in random places around the house. My husband had taken cats (including this one) there about a decade ago, so we just decided to go there. First impression was the staff wasn't even cordial to each other. One staff member almost started verbally abusing another one. When we got back into the room, she tried to tell us that his peeing was a behavioral issue. Umm, no. I've had issues with male cats spraying & this isn't one of them. We told her we suspected a UTI & she grudgingly got a urine sample. She also did a terrible job doing that. She was digging around in his poor bladder trying to get a sample. To our kitty's credit, he behaved really well. When the results came back & she said that she suspected he has diabetes. My husband & I talked it over & decided that we weren't going to move forward with insulin shots at this time. Other than the few accidents, he's happy, eating, drinking, & otherwise totally fine. I called her back & told her our decision. When she called back to confirm the urine culture, she started talking down to us about our decision. My husband had her on speaker & it's a good thing he hung up when he did. She was about to get an earful from me. She needs to learn to respect the family's decision & step off. We're never taking our cats there again & will warn everyone we know against them. Read Less

I have been going here for years. but in the past few years the pricing has skyrocketed, probably due to the area becoming more wealthy.  The doctors are nice and knowledgeable but they are way too quick to recommend expensive diagnostics like ultrasound and x-ray without any regard for the customer's financial limitations.  Having received second opinions, many vets say ultrasounds are expensive and unnecessary in many cases.   They have also refused to due certain procedures without layers of expensive diagnostics.  Sometimes they almost border on "shaming" you for not taking their advice.  After almost 10 years, I am switching vets due to the expensive pricing and overuse of diagnostics.  If you are modest means, you should take your business elsewhere.  If you can afford it, then you are in good hands. I've been going to CSAH for over 10 years. Dr. Fordyce is hands-down the most capable vet I've ever interacted with. She has such a calming effect on animals and works hard to put nervous pets at ease.My current dog is very healthy with few issues but Dr. F is still very thorough and consistently coaches me to watch weight and dental health. No visit is ever a "check the box" experience.I had major health issues with another dog and Dr. F was able to diagnose, treat or refer me to specialists in each situation. She handled several emergency surgeries and stayed up to speed when I had to take my dog to UGA Vet Hospital for special treatments. She was always available to consult after- hours when emergencies occurred. When my parents were visiting with their dog from out of town and he had problems, Dr. F not only made time to see the dog, but took X-rays and provided a solid diagnosis that their vet had missed. She sent the X-rays and was very helpful in advising my parents about recommended care. When I was in the process of buying a puppy that had an overbite condition, I called Dr. F for advice. Not only did she give me her POV, she had conferred with a specialist to provide the best possible advice.I trust her immensely with my pets and highly recommend her and her staff to others. I love this vet.  I've seen numerous vets over 22 years of pets, and in my humble opinion, they are the best. All of the staff are friendly and professional.  Dr. Fordyce is excellent, a total package of expertise, professional demeanor, and clear communication.  She doesn't mess around.  Dr. Osbourne is also great and knowledgeable, though I've only seen her a few times.    Both vets know our dogs' histories, and by know, I don't mean they just glance at some chart with a scribble from 2 years ago, I mean they know and have excellent records of everything.  Dr. Fordyce patiently answers my 2 pages of questions every time I go without ever losing her patience, and they genuinely take time with the pups.   Just as importantly, my dogs trust them, and a couple of them are special rescue cases who can be skittish with other people.  All of the people I've observed, from techs to the receptionist, have been kind to the animals.  They also keep appointment times. As a plus, I've never felt overcharged at this vet.  I don't feel like I'm being pressured into unnecessary tests or visits, though they are thorough.  That's a rare occurrence.  I'm pretty demanding with anything pet related, and these people set the bar. I recently adopted a dog from a woman who could not care for him anymore, and she told me that she absolutely loved Dr. Fordyce and trusted her completely with her two other dogs. I decided to give Church Street Animal Hospital a chance because of such a strong positive review. I have been very impressed with the service and concern of Dr. Fordyce and her entire staff. Every person in that office cares a lot about animal. My dog got into some chocolate about a month ago and I called them in a panic. After checking with the vet, the receptionist gave me instructions on some things I could try at home, and asked me to call back 30 minutes later to update her on the situation. When the at-home treatment didn't seem to be working, I called back and was instructed to bring my dog in to make sure the issue could be dealt with before things got worse. They were able to fit me in even though it was near the end of their workday. As soon as I walked in, the staff greeted me and my dog by name and showed great concern. While we were in the office, Dr. Fordyce and her staff took great care of my dog, and made sure I understood exactly what I needed to do once we returned home. To top it all off, I found their pricing to be very reasonable. My dog was back to his normal self the following morning. They have also been very accessible by phone anytime I have questions - one time, I spent 45 minutes on the phone with a staff member discussing some behavioral issues my dog was exhibiting and tips I could try to correct the behavior. Not once did I feel rushed. Also, their prices for heartworm pills, flea/tick preventative, etc. are very reasonable and rival the cheapest websites I've seen. Read Less

I cannot say enough about this place! I very recently lost my dear cat, and I am very much so still mourning his passing. When I brought him in the team began moving in high gear to get him the care he needed. As the wonderful Dr. Cynthia started talking about what was wrong, and what needed to be done, I was waiting for her to start talking about money, as many vets will do. Nobody said a word to me about payment. They just took care of my baby, no questions asked. The only time money was mentioned was to just let me know where things were financially, but nobody was asking for money. Dr. Cynthia called me during the evening to update me, and she even went back at midnight to check on him! How many vets do that?! Gary was also great, as he stood by when I went to see my boy the next day. Dr. Cat was there for me near the end, and stayed by until my dear baby left. She helped me clip some of his fur to remember him by, and was nothing but kind. Lee Ann was there for me the whole way. She got my baby's paw prints for me, and made sure I was ok. Both Lee Ann and Dr. Cynthia came outside to check on me, and talk to me for a while. They treated me like family, and I know a lot of vets don't do that. When my uncle came to pick me up (I was in no condition to drive) he asked about the bill, and we were told not to worry about that now, and that it would be mailed. I was so incredibly lucky to have chosen Church Street Animal Hospital as my vet. If you are looking for a vet, this is the place, hands down! My husbands family has been taking their animals to Dr Fordyce for over 30 years so when we got our two rescue cats in 1998/1999 we naturally went to Church Street Animal Hospital.  We lived in Lilburn and every year I made the trek to Decatur for their annual visits.  Around 2002, I spoke to Dr Fordyce about looking for a vet that was closer to us and she was very forthcoming with places we could relocated our Vet services.  Shortly thereafter, one cat stopped eating and drinking and hid underneath the bed.  They squeezed us in for a Sat appt and basically could not see any problems but the cat was obviously traumatized.  Given instructions and some antibiotics we bought "Scully" home.  To our surprise, on Sunday morning, Dr Fordyce woke us to ask how Scully was doing.  Hello......a Veterinarian calls you on A Sunday morning to check on your cat?   We cant get our Doctors to call us!  Scully was stung by a wasp.Long story short, she is and will always be our Vet.  As mentioned, she is very business like, loves and cares deeply for animals, does not take extreme measures and maybe not the "Happy friendly, warm and fussy"  Vet you think you might want but SHE IS THE BEST!  Hands down.  Thank you so much Dr Fordyce!PS......The staff is incredible and Fantastic always and they should be proud to be working with the best Vet in Atlanta! When I got my first cat, two completely separate friends -- one of whom lived some distance from Decatur -- recommended the Church Street Animal Hospital.  I have been using them ever since, including through the cancer and death of one of my boy cats two years ago; so I have been to see them under many different circumstances. The staff are very friendly, the building is kept very clean, and Dr. Fordyce (the vet they always schedule my cats with) just radiates competence.  She is thorough, no-nonsense, intelligent, and seems to know exactly how to handle animals -- everything I want in a vet!  Even my energetic little longhaired girl cat, Persephone, whom even I cannot always keep hold of if she wants down, sits still when Dr. Fordyce is examining her.  Finding herself held and prodded during her first visit, Persephone first yowled, then growled with a resentful look on her face, then suddenly Dr. Fordyce said very firmly, "Be quiet -- I can't hear with the stethoscope with you growling."  And, amazingly, Persephone was immediately quiet and -- excepting one brief complaint when the thermometer went in -- was silent for the rest of the survey.  I was amazed.  Dr. Fordyce is the only stranger whom Persephone is willing to take orders from. I love CSAH. I have four cats, and they are spoiled rotten. I had been on the lookout for a great vet for some time when I tried this one, and took my then new kitten Alexi there for his first appointment. They are not the cheapest or the most expensive, they are not the fanciest, most high-tech or the most backwoods. But they know animals, and the staff are very gentle and friendly, both to animals and their humans. I will break here and say that Dr. Fordyce leaves a little something to be desired in the way of human interaction. She is not mean, per se. She came in and examined Alexi, then went through the new kitten speech (even though I'm pretty much a cat pro by this point). We listened intently, anyway- hey we might learn something. But she just has this manner, as though there's probably a reason she's working with animals and maybe should only interact with them. She is still very good at her job in an efficient way, so I can't really deduct points. There is a newer vet there, and she isn't listed on their website (and I unfortunately can't remember her name!!!). We saw her when taking baby Oz, our newest kitten in. She is amazing, and I will insist on seeing her from now on... because hopefully I will remember her name when I hear it! After trying several other vets in the Dekalb area, I have to say that CSAH has my vote for the best. A+ Read Less

Read Less

For over twenty years I took my cats and dogs to Dr. Fordyce. Chruch Street Animal Hospital is the place to go. Even after I moved from the area I would drive over 100 miles round trip to take my pets there. She is truly a gift from heaven not only for our four legged friends but for us fur-less ones too. The staff is great and so kind. I had to have some of my pets put down and Dr. Fordyce treated my pets with love and respect to the end. We need more vets like Dr. Fordyce.

I am very sad to have lost my baby, Clausie, but I am very happy to have Church Street Animal Hospital as my forever vet!! Read Less
