Avoid Dr. Slider at at all costs! I came to the Village Vets (Decatur), because my dog was recently diagnosed with Vestibular Disease and suddenly started vomiting after every meal. To be transparent, my dog is up-to-date on all vaccinations and completely cared for (spoiled even!). He's only been sick once in his entire life. I tried to book an appointment with The Village Vets after wanting to get a second opinion upon seeing another vet. The vet at Church Street Animal Hospital only performed a blood test (But I demanded an X-ray). I wanted both to get as much information as possible on what may be going on internally with my dog. But it was impossible to get anything the same week let alone the next day. So, I took my dog to emergency. Dr. Silder was in charge of early morning emergency appointments. The result of the blood test from the previous vet was normal with a slightly elevated liver function.I told Dr. Slider about the VD and the vomiting, telling her I believe this is much more serious than an upset stomach. My dog had been regurgitating food for at least three straight days now. However, she reassured me not to worry. We took the X-rays and everything came out normal. There were no obstructions that could be causing the vomiting. She prescribed an IV of emetic (anti-vomit) drugs, 4 pills of Cerenia and canned vet-prescribed dog food. She told me to call her in two days of this treatment. So, again I attempt to make an appointment. Again, it must be booked out way in advance. I had a trip that was exactly two days and made an emergency visit to the vet. My dog had not been eating for two weeks now, getting lethargic by the day. She told me to do more X-rays, and I thought maybe from a different angle, but then said she ran duplicate X-rays of the abdomen by mistake. O...k.......She said it would be at no charge, but everything still appeared normal. She gave me a referral for a ultrasound. So, I made an appointment with a specialist the next Monday 1:30pm. My dog had a bad case of vomiting, and I decided to make another appointment with Church Street Animal Hospital. You know, where I could actually get an appointment without having to go to emergency. That Vet told me that my dog looked terrible. He lost several pounds and was severely dehydrated. They gave my dog Subcutaneous fluids and told me to make an appointment with a neurologist for an MRI. They thought the entire issue was something going on in my dog's brain. The next morning, my dog gets violent diarrhea, is still vomiting and and can barely stand and walk around. I go back to Village Vets emergency and Dr. Slider takes FOREVER to come to see my dog and I. After which, she basically tells me what amounts to,"Well your dog is old and sometimes these things happen..." My dog just turned 10 this year, was in perfect health besides the vomiting, evidenced by x-rays and blood tests. He was a medium sized dog, barely 30 pounds. Not geriatric by any means for a dog his size. She said, in a "throwing me a bone" fashion, "Well, we'll keep your dog overnight and give him an IV of fluids and anti-vomiting drugs. We'll take good care of him!!!" She said she would call me at the end of her shift to give me an update on how he was doing. She said she had gotten "attached" to my dog and would take special care of him.I never got a call. I called around 6pm and 12:30am the next morning to get a status. Both times, I was told that he's taking the fluids and doing fine. Then at 7am, later that morning, the vet Dr. Neal taking over Dr. Slider's shift calls me to tell me, that your dog has aspiration pneumonia, and he's dying. Do you still want to transfer him to his ultrasound appointment?" I was shocked and knew the only option left was to euthanize my dog so he can stop suffering in so much pain. I truly believe a more competent vet would have saved my dog life. The truth is, I don't think Dr. Slider cared at all and happily strung me along with "platitudes" to keep getting money from me for vet bills. Plus, I feel she didn't tell me all the tests and treatments possible, because she thought based upon my appearance--I couldn't afford the treatment.I can easily afford any treatment requested of me. I paid all bills upfront without question, so to be treated like some feckless vagrant daring to ask for quality care for my not-so-purebred/non-doodle mutt was too much for her apparently. Don't let the excessive "valet parking", free drinks, flashy office and etc fool you. These people basically stood by and let my dog die and didn't provide ALL options to save his life.Let me decide what's worth it!It's because of the Village Vets' absolute negligence, especially Dr. Slider, that my sweet dog is now dead and being prepared for cremation tomorrow morning. I never did get a "regular" appointment, but if you love your animals---don't come here for emergencies, and STAY AWAY from Dr. Slider at all costs. Read Less
