I cannot properly express how much I love this practice and Dr. Ruth. She has been a lifesaver for me and my animals. She gives top notch care to my pets and really to me as well. I have referred every friend with pets to Dr. Whiteway. Between the 4 cats and 4 dogs we've had over the years, my husband and I have had many unfortunate ER visits. During these trips, we were overcharged and told "nothing could be done" except x resolution. Despite vet orders, we've always waited for the next morning to take them to Dr. Whiteway. Let me first say, that if you have to be surrounded by new and sparkly things and think that new has to mean it's better, then don't come here, no one wants you around.The building is older, there are office pets roaming around back and yeah it kind of has that old dog couch smell...but I don't care about any of that, because how well my pet is taken care of is what matters to me.My parents and I have used this Vet since her dad(Dr. Whiteway) owned the place. Dr. Scott now owns the place and she's an excellent no none sense doctor. She gives it to you straight, charges honest rates and has creative ways of helping to keep cost down while NEVER sacrificing 'patient care'.If you're the type of pet owner that has no financial limit when it comes to the care of your pet, she's with you 100%. If you're the type of pet owner that doesn't have the financial freedom to 'do whatever it takes', she's still with you 100%.She's the type of vet that will come out from the back, roll up her sleeves and treat your pet in the car if it's needed. All of her staff is personable and without a doubt pet lovers. Walk-ins are welcome and yeah at times there can be a long wait, but it's just part of it. We had such a positive experience at Whiteway! They were the third vet we called in trying to get an appointment for our cat, and just the check up was going to be remarkably cheaper than the other two vets. We went in the morning, and it was a first come first serve situation. We waited for about 20 minutes before the vet could see us - almost nothing compared to other vet offices - and once we got in, the doctor was fabulous.She gave our cat a gentle, thorough examination, and told us a few different options for treatment. She was so calm and reassuring, and really seems to know what she is talking about. She gave the cat a shot, and told us to let her know if things hadn't changed by the next week. We were worried about the bill, because she'd given him medicine, but the entire trip, including the visit with the doctor, and the meds, was only $56. And it did the trick! Dr Whiteway-Scott is compassionate, thorough, and honest. She will do whatever it takes to resolve your pet's health issues.To the person who complained about the building, Sure, this isn't a shiny streamlined corporate facility, but why should it have to be? I'd much rather pay the incredibly fair and honest prices offered here than to fork over the 20-50 percent more charged by other vets just to cover the cost of some aesthetic renovations. I have a large dog that does not do well with other dogs. If the lobby is busy, Dr Whiteway-Scott will actually come outside to the car to vaccinate or examine her. I had another dog who was sick with a brain tumor, and she was so concerned and dedicated that she called me after hours on multiple occasions just to check on him. i don't see what the fuss about this vet is about. it s not a great clinic.its messy, and dumpy.  and so dated, i felt like i stepped into 1984.this is a one vet clinic. i can see how a person would like that.  but the service i got from the vet was sub par.  she didn't seem to really examine my dog. we went in for an annual check up plus a couple tests. the dr completely botched drawing blood from my dog. then she just breezed over the physical exam. gave the dog a feel all over, then looked in his ears, ok he s good.  she didn't seem to even like her job.if this wasn't bad enough, the dr lied straight to my face.  i told her i was gonna order my heart guard thru petmeds, she said "oh we have trouble with pet meds. they drop the ball all the time. we recommend using..."so i ordered thru pet meds and promptly got a call from them asking me to call the vet and ask them to call pet meds to ok the script. when i called the clinic the receptionist said "oh we don't work with pet meds."ok, so this vet lied to me. thats bad enough. but by doing so she cost me, and more importantly my dog, a few days in receiving the heart guard medication.  saying this again, the dr lied to my face and delayed a patient receiving their medicine.  COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE FOR A DR TO LIE, ESPECIALLY WHEN THIS LIE CAUSES A PATIENT TO NOT RECEIVE THEIR MEDICINE IN A TIMELY MANNER. and this dr owns the clinic. unbelievable. I would never trust another vet with my animals. I cannot say enough good about this place. Dr. Ruth is the most wonderful, caring, generous, and thoughtful person you could ever meet. She treats her patients like family and when you leave your pet there for any reason, you know it is going to be well taken care of and loved. When we took my first dog , Peanut, to get her nails trimmed at PetSmart the woman told us about Dr. Ruth. Peanut needed oral surgery bad because her teeth were terrible. After calling around to every vet we could find, we were dismayed to find that everyone wanted to charge us at least $2500 for surgery and cleaning. We even had one quote for $5,000. Dr. Ruth sedated Peanut, removed the teeth, sewed her back up, cleaned the remaining teeth, gave us antibiotics and a steroid and the entire thing cost less than $500. We tried to get her to take more, but she wouldn't. After reading the reviews that are less than shining, you can see that they don't really hold water. Everyone has had a bad experience at some time with someone wonderful and if the other reviewers were to actually meet Dr. Ruth, they would feel embarrassed to have given her less than 5 stars. I have three "fur babies" who needed some medical care. A friend had recommended Whiteway. One of my babies has anxiety so bad she rarely goes around people who aren't part of the "pack." Whiteway was said to be excellent where I had found other vets less understanding about our Pitbulls condition. When I got Mufassa to Whiteway the girls and the doc were amazingly patient and sweet to her. The vet was gentle and answered all my questions with very clear information. My other babies love her too! After our visit, I had more questions. I called. Got answers. That never happens anywhere else. It seems the objective at Whiteway is honest pet care. I could not be more appreciative. The best part of my surprisingly wonderful visit was discovering that these sweet people are members of our community who live that way out of the office too. Im a barber by trade and on my second visit one of the ladies recognized me as her dad's barber. The vet? Her kids went to school with mine. I had no clue when we first visited Whiteway. Maybe this doesn't matter to some folks, but to me it says volumes. Its another layer of "personal" that makes the care given legit and valuable in today's hurry-up world. I've been taking my pets to Dr. Ruth at Whiteway for almost 5 years now. She is hands down the best vet I've ever gone to. She will answer any question you have, she will not try to over diagnose anything or order more expensive tests when they're not needed, will always recommend a home remedy before resorting to more expensive medications and you can tell she really cares about all of her patients. Dr. Whiteway is the best vet ever. I cannot say enough to even compare to how wonderful she is. But perhaps even more importantly, she is great with people. She understands animals and people and the love she has for both is just so evident. She has a small veterinary clinic that could use some upgrades. It's clean and well maintained, but given the shear demand for her service, it could stand to be twice as big. But that might take away from the direct and personal nature of the service she provides. I will not let any other vet treat my animals and though she always has a full waiting room, I am more than happy to wait to see her. She charges less than any other vet and her service is top notch. For example, my mini dachshund had terrible teeth and before we took her to Dr. Whiteway, we were given a quote of 2500.00 for dental work. Dr. Whiteway did more work for less than 1/5 that much and even then, she felt bad about charging us for the anesthesia and surgery. I love this vet with all my heart and I am appalled at the ignorant idiots that have given her less than 5 stars. I have been taking my dogs to Dr. Ruth Scott for at least five years. She is a one vet office and has a dedicated staff. Her dad was a vet at the same location. The office isn't fancy and you have to double check the hours but she is knowledgeable and affordable. She will refer to another vet if you need special diagnostics or after hours emergency care but for routine visits--she is the best! I always meet interesting people and their pets in her waiting room--with no TV you end up chatting with people...it's a charming little place. Read Less

The reviews are totally right. I truly enjoyed my experience at white way. I appreciate their walk in policy, I think it is definitely a more modern approach to pet owners schedule. I only waited around 15 minutes in the waiting room which had large windows, filling the room with natural light. The assistant and receptionist were extremely friendly. I am so appreciative of Dr. Ruth for her honestly, compassion, and getting down to business. My cat got the shot he needed and the next day is back to normal. Her prices are reasonable and she never at any point tried to jack up the bill by intimidating me with her extensive knowledge. Sure there are many vets that have nice fancy offices and offer more services but if you want to take care of your pet in a down to earth, stress free way, I recommend whiteway and Dr. Ruth 100% Read Less

Best vet EVER! We have been loyal clients of Dr. Ruth Scott for the past decade. She is honest and a no nonsense kind of Doctor. She has always gone above and beyond and starts with the less invasive, less costly treatment first. She loves the animals and is not in it to charge an arm and a leg. I think she might be good with dogs but had a cat who would pee and spray in the house and she said some just do that and there's nothing that can change it. Took him to another Vet after checking info on web, found he had crystals in urine and a bladder infection. Got antibiotics. I didn't know she was dying, but she'd been sick for while and my former vet couldn't cure it. Unfortunately my dog had cancer and only lived a few more weeks. In spite having no history with me, she made me feel like a well-known client and even a friend. She showed true compassion and helped me and my family with a very sad event. We were very excited to find a nice vet clinic and looking forward to using them but Dr. Whiteway was horribly mean and asked us to find another vet. One of the best kept secrets in Atlanta Whiteway reminds  me  of a bygone era of mom and pop general stores, and doctors making house calls. The reception area has a comfortable living room feel. There are no  Bright florescent lights or sterile operating room smells. My dog is generally fearful of strange places, but she settled down quite comfortable on the floor.Before  Maggie was on the exam table; She ( the vet) suggested i feed  her more  because  she was under weight and needed to gain a few pounds. Maggie is cockapoo (cocker spaniel and poodle mix)  and has a ton of hair. I appricated the little things they do for you.  Instead of rushing me out at the conclusion of the exam, she took the time to answer all my questions i had. She even demonstrated how i could trim the hair from her eyes. Whiteway is nestled inconspicuously between the music store and driving range on N Druid Hills rd (between Clairmont  rd and N Dekalb mall.  And If you blink, you'll probably drive past it like i did the first time.I think much of Whiteway's business comes through word of mouthMy neighbor told me about them.  Driving by today, I didn't see a visible sign outside. The last time i scheduled an appointment, I believe i had to schedule one two weeks out. I believe they are  are open on weekends either. Several afternoons a week are devoted to surgeries. Jumping on the Whiteway bandwagon. My sweet little girl Gemini has had a rough year. She started losing her fur and developed a nasty odor. After months of visits to the "other" vet, we stalled out with the same approach and no progress- pretty hard to take after $1000+ in bills. Upon the recommendation of my groomer-Christine at Furbusters (yelp.com/biz/furbusters-…) I came to see Dr. Ruth. She listened carefully and really heard my concerns. She reviewed the test results we were able to get the "other" vet to fax us and now I feel pretty good about this second opinion. We're going to try some new things and revamp some previous treatments. I love Whiteway!  This is the third and last animal clinic I've taken my dogs to.  Dr. Ruth and the staff are great.  The clinic building itself doesn't have the best curb appeal, but don't judge a book by its cover.  It's the staff inside that makes up the clinic, not the building.  My first puppy had her hysterectomy at Banfield in Petsmart on Ponce de Leon, and our experience was terrible (read my review for full details).  She was all drugged up and loopy when I picked her up from her surgery.  One of her legs was partially shaved to the skin and there was dried blood all over her abdomen.  It was terrible.  My heart broke when I saw her.  So then we took our second puppy to Whiteway for her hysterectomy, per a friend's recommendation.  This time I was emotionally prepared to pick up a drugged up dog with half her fur missing, however, she was exactly the same as when I dropped her off.  It didn't even seem like she ever had surgery.  They had to show me the incision and stitches to prove to me that she really did go through surgery.  Plus, there was no visible fur missing.  Also, they pulled out two of her baby teeth while she was asleep during the surgery as a favor.  They didn't charge me for the teeth pulling, and they saved the teeth for me (as a souvenir?).I've been taking our dogs there for over three years now and have had positive experiences every time.  They spend plenty of time with us answering all my questions.  Also, the prices for their services are better than any other animal clinic I've researched.  Great care plus great prices equals a winner for me.
