Today I took my 13 year old Siberian Husky to see Dr. K. Diehl. She had examined my 14 year old Husky Chanook back in March and I felt she did fine and the office staff was extremely pleasant. Back in March I had discussed with Dr Diehl the issues I had with my 13 year old Husky "Kodi". I had explained that he had been on Hypothyroid medication but he had been off it for quite some time. I explained that I would like to get him back on it. She had informed me that she would have to see him and have his records sent from California. She said after she sees him and the records there should be no reason why he couldn't get back on the medication. I even explained to her that the reason I hadn't had Kodi on his medication was because I couldn't afford all the high costs of blood work. Due to me being laid off. She explained she understood and that she would just have to see the records and just to brings Kodi in. At NO time did Dr. Kathleen Diehl EVER ask "how long is quite a while" she NEVER stated "well if he hadn't been on the medication after _____ months we would have to do the blood work over". She stated VERY clearly all she needed was to see him and see the chart from CA in order to put him back on the medication. I honestly was frustrated because I felt "well if that's all she needed why didn't the Vet in CA do that and Kodi would have been on the meds the whole time".Due to Circumstances I had not been able to bring him in till today. When I brought him in the staff was again very pleasant. They Took Kodi in for a Weight & temperature. When he came back we saw Dr. Diehl. After some discussion she informed me that she wouldn't be putting Kodi on the medication. When I asked why she said the time lapse had been too great and he would need blood work. Now I'm not disputing that this Makes sense. BUT I Specifically asked that on the initial visit with Chanook. If that would have been the case I would have waited till I could pay ALL the costs. This ended up being a waisted visit. I was VERY upset that Dr. Diehl mislead me. She completely gave me FALSE information. I did speak to Chris Early (manager) and she initially stated "well maybe it was a miscommunication. NO NO NO. This was no miscommunication this was flat out misleading the client. Especially when I Specifically asked if just the visit and the papers was all that was needed to be done. There is no miscommunication. Chris Early stated she would credit my bill particularly on my visit with Kodi when I get his blood work. And that is fine. If people get DR. KATHLEEN DIEHL you need to be VERY Specific. You need to ask her! Multiple times and probably get it in writing any info she provides. Possibly even check with the office manager prior to leaving if the information is correct. I've used Duluth Animal Hospital for 25+ years and many pups. Dr. Miller is the most intelligent vet I've ever come across. He runs an amazing animal hospital. But most importantly, Dr. Holson is so compassionate and kind and if you love your pets, she's the one to use. She is a brilliant vet and surgeon; and just a genuinely down-to-earth and lovable vet. When you bring your dog to the vet and the first thing the staff and vet do when enter the exam room is hop on the floor to really interact with your pups, you know you have a special pet partner! They were extremely easy to get an appointment for my new puppy. They were warm and inviting, and you can tell that they truly love what they do here. I feel that their prices are reasonable, and I am extremely happy with the service they provided to me and my family with the new addition to our household. They gave us so much information and answered all our questions, even those we didn't know to ask. I have taken my pets here since 1999. The doctors and staff are largely the same today as they were in 1999. They are all the kindest and the exams are so thorough. I have had to put 2 of my dogs down and the compassion they showed to me helped me through an awful time in my life. I would not even consider go anywhere else. Read Less

Though I'm not sure if they are the cheapest, my kids and I love this clinic. We bring a dog and two cats, often at the same time. With for young kids, that's hard they give my kids waters and coloring supplies, and coffee to me while they take great care of the animals. Really nice stays and the docs are great. Read Less

We had a great first visit today! The staff was friendly and welcoming. Our tech was thrilled to meet our dog and answered all my questions in detail. Our Doctor was easy to talk to and explained the preventative treatment our dog needed. She provided additional information I would never have thought to ask about. We will be back—hopefully in another year for our annual checkup but if we need to see the vet before then, we know we will get great care from DAH. Read Less

I love this animal hospital so much. I've only been here once, but everything was just so smooth. I had taken my dog to a Rover and he came back with some cuts on his face that didn't seem to be healing as fast as I expected. The receptionist who spoke with me on the phone seemed genuinely concerned about my dog and managed to squeeze me into the doctor's schedule right away (she literally said, "how soon can you be here?")I wish I caught the name of the vet who saw my dog because he was amazing. My dog is large, (Ridgeback Mastiff mix) but he is incredibly shy and gentle. He hates going to the vet and gets really anxious, but the vet who saw him was so soothing and even laid on the floor with my dog LIKE LITERALLY LAID ON THE FLOOR and made my dog feel so comfortable that by the time he was done checking him out up close, my dog loved this man. To be clear, I would never in a milion years expect a vet or anyone else to lay on the floor with a stranger's dog lol, so when this vet did it to make my dog more comfortable, I knew right away that this is a person who genuinely loves and cares about animals.I got the same vibe from the techs as well. Love love love our vet! Dr. Holson and the rest of the staff are incredibly helpful and have made our venture into puppy parenthood (our first time) a breeze. All our crazy questions and concerns are treated genuinely and as if we are their only patients. When we adopted our dog, she ended up having a couple of health issues all of which were addressed immediately and thoroughly (also financially it was VERY reasonable). Going to Duluth Animal Hospital is like a visit with warm and caring friends. I did not have an appointment, stopped in to get my pup's nails trimmed and purchase a bag of dog food. Front Desk staff immediately called one of the Vet Techs who came out and lovingly took my fur baby. She is skittish but Joanne calmed her down and before I knew it, she was back, her nails beautifully trimmed. They even carried the bag of dog food to my car! The staff seems always so well communicated, and very efficient at communicating within the office as well as with pet parents as well. I have been to many animal hospitals to meet Goofy's needs and I think we've finally found an excellent home here. The staff are extremely attentive and accommodating. Every time I've been there with my dog, I leave feeling confident she received the best possible care. The only drawback is the pricing seems a little high, but come on! Choosing a vet is choosing the health care for a member of your family, so it's definitely worth it. Personal success story: We brought our pup Zoe here a year ago, for shots and grooming. She was so terrified after having bad experiences with a mobile groomer. Duluth animal hospital is one of the nicest vet offices I have been too. I am new to the area and my dog go sick. I called here and they were able to get Polo in that day. The receptionist Vicki is extremely sweet. We saw Dr. Holson that day. She was wonderful. That night Polo got worst though and I called to get polo seen again and they fit him in that morning. Dr. Holson even called me to see what was going on when she saw polo back on the schedule for the day. The next day she even called and followed up on her day off to make sure Polo was doing okay. We brought our 17 year old ailing cat for a sanitary haircut. The Vet got all the info from the vet's office that did lifesaving surgery on him. This was the only Vet's office that does this procedure within a reasonable distance from our home. Because of his age and his weakened condition it was certainly appropriate to waive the rabies and another vaccination but the Vet would not do that. When I brought in the cat they insisted that I had to talk to the Vet. He took the cat carrier and tried to shake the cat out of it. I knew there was a problem then. The $85 procedure ended up costing over $250. We picked up our cat on Monday and he was dead by Thursday. Read Less

My husband and I take both our dog and cat here. I feel that every employee (from reception, techs, and vet's) truly care about the well being of the pets that walk through the door. I love that they send friendly reminders for vaccines and they are always able to fit you in if an emergency arises. This is the only vet I will take my current and future pets to. My dog had problems with his eye and I took him here. They recommended I give him medicine to help with his eye. But he has gotten worse and now a different hospital is saying that this hospital failed to take care of him to the fullest extent and now I have to put him down. Read Less

Duluth Animal Hospital is the best vet around.  I have two rescues, that are my fur babies.  I was worried about finding a vet that would take great care of my babies, but I did.  From the office staff, who always answer my questions with patience and understanding, to Dr. Robertson and Dr. Holson, everyone is so caring. Was concerned trying to find a vet to take my two dogs too.  I have read so many bad reviews about places it was just scary.   Stumbled across this place today and of course not many reviews to make a judgement on, but decided to give it a shot anyways. Boy am I glad I did, the staff is friendly and helpful, not once did I feel awkward or embarrassed by the way my oldest acts when she gets excited. I'm so sad. I am a huge component of using local business. D. A. It's a little over priced we have four rescues but we have had pretty good service in the past. Dr. Mike was so sweet when we lost our sweet dog Carabell even offered to our home. We had to make the decision it's time to let our elderly cat go. I called to make an apt, he was a fisty kitten but he's now barley able to walk. Long story short after a really long hold. I was told I should make an apt at another vet. Wow really. My dogs love Dr. Diehl! She puts them at ease, gets down on the floor with them instead of making them get up on the table for her - she spends the first several minutes just petting them and talking sweetly to gain their trust. The clinic is always very clean, we never have to wait longer than 5 minutes in the waiting room - but sometimes the wait in the exam room can be 10-15 minutes... not too bad. Read Less

One of our cats was seen by Dr. Holsten as well and she, like Dr. Diehl, is a wonderful vet who will talk with and listen to you. I hate finding a new vet, but after I moved here from CA I was forced to. Thank goodness for this place! I see Dr. Rosentel and she is amazing. My kitty was doing really bad, and I ended up having to put him to sleep. Dr. R was magnificent in how she handled it and helped me to find options when we were still trying to diagnose the problem, and really was there for me when we put him down.
