We began coming here when my first dog had cancer and had to put her down after our vet office hours. We were so pleased with the process, I knew this would be the vet for my second dog. Every time I have been, it has been an excellent experience. Dr. Hotop is the most thorough vet I've ever seen. She really takes the time to listen, bond with my pup, do a thorough physical exam, run tests, and educate me on the diagnosis and plan. What I really appreciate is the amount of time she always spends with her patients and that she gives me the opportunity to make informed decisions about my pet's care. I woukd highly recommend everyone take their pet here! Read Less

I wish to file a former complaint so,I am looking for whoever heads this animal hospital. I requested a refill,on a much needed insulin medication well in advance. I picked up,the prescription on Saturday and went w/o Walgreens to fill. They needed the doctors dea number. Eastside does not have her dea on file and the vet on duty today refused to put his name on the prescription. This is what confused me. All he had to do is look at Poppys chart to see that she is on this insulin medication but he refused stating " I didn't examine her. What the hell!! All he had to do was, look at her chart. I am disgusted as now poppy will,go without her, medication today. The doctor that wrote the prescription didn't examine her either but she wrote the prescription. I am furious as want to speak to the head of thus hospital Read Less

Agreed. I went in for an emergency and the doctor on overnight weekend was rude and condescending. I paid $218 and said I would follow up with my own vet the next day. They can near forced the euthanization on me and tried to bill me $1300 when that was their decision. The doctor's comment-still ringing in my head- was , 'Well when you have pets, there are unexpected costs." No you need unexpected funds for facilities trying to upcharge your bill and refusing to release your animal. And the doctor lied. When she said, she is gone, my dog was still breathing. They made me sign an attorney promissory note for the $96 balance. More heartbreaking was that the doctor kept talking about killing our dog when she saw my 13 year old child (also Autistic) unravel at the work each time. They people are monsters. Please run fast. Best experience I could hope for. We rushed over here after my dog was bitten (found out later by a Copperhead snake). His face was swelling and he was having all kinds of problems. They saw him and took him back to be looked at right away to start treating him before even knowing my name. I really appreciated the friendly nurse and vet. It made things easier. He got amazing care and they had everything he needed there. It was also comfortable and clean. Read Less

Let me start with this, if I could give this place zero stars, I would. I brought my older golden in for labored breathing. They take x-rays and the “vet” comes in (I use this term loosely) and says there are masses in his lungs and it could be pneumonia but is strongly sure it’s cancer and we need to see a specialist of figure out the best course of action for “quality of life”. I have had my dog for 11 years, he has never had any health issues besides arthritis. At this point I am on the floor floor crying. This is my child. I love my dogs like family. So she said “take him home tonight and be with him, you don’t have to make a decision tonight” I of course took the medication to help relieve his pain, which was a steroid. Something didn’t sit right with me and I of course got a second opinion from our usual doctor. After 3 weeks of antibiotics my dog is completely healthy. He did not have cancer. I did not have to worry nearly as much as I did. My vet and his colleagues took one look at the X-rays and established that is was MOST LIKELY pneumonia and NOT cancer. And may I add that the steroids she prescribed him would have KILLED him if I would have given them to him. Let me be clear in saying I understand I have an older dog whose breed is prone to cancer. But to sit there and tell me I had days left with my best friend, and I needed to spend thousands of dollars on a specialist if I wanted him to live IF he could live, is absolutely assinine. My vets exact words were “let’s treat the treatable” Needless to say, this vet practice is incredibly unprofessional and misguided to say the absolute least. My advice is to find a better place for your animals. Read Less

If I could give this place a negative rating, I would. All this place is worried about is money. Not only did they make my great grandmother wait in a room for hours, but they told her it would just be best to put her dog down, as she's crying. They didn't do anything to see if they could save his life or even try! Then, I just called to ask a question about my baby girl and they said ; I quote "we can't give any medicine suggestions unless we see the dog" even though I described the entire situation, yet no more then 5 minutes later I call another animal hospital, still looking for help, explained my situation and they were able to give me advice and help, WITHOUT SEEING MY PET. I am so ashamed at how my poor parents were treated when they came in for an emergency. Very rude and pushy, condescending staff. They were just pushing for medical services. Little concern for pet. Almost mutilated my mom's cat because the "doctor" on call wanted to few notches in her training belt - she said it would be the first time she would be performing a catheter incision. She messed it up by missing. Hurt the cat even more.  He's 17 years old and she treats him like he is an experiment.  Glad we made it to our usual vet when they opened. They saved the cat's life.  This is not a place to go for emergency.  Had to write this review as they actually removed the cautionary review my parents have written.  If you have a real emergency, do not come here. Definitely wouldn't reccomend going here. Left my chihuahua at a friends house and they called me stating he was acting weird. Left the gym and picked him up and with a little investigation it was clear he got into someone's marijuana. Immediately took him to the emergency room and everything was downhill from there. The front desk lady was very nice but the staff didn't really seem like they cared. They took him to another room for over an hour and a half to do a "physical evaluation" which is $105 by the way. They stuck me and my girlfriend in a room while we waited to hear something back and it seemed like neither of the vets really cared. She then gave us an estimate between $588 to $688 yet had no absolute and confirmed clue as to what was really wrong with my dog. After declining the estimate they used scare tactics and phrases such as "your dog can develop a tumor" and "he can suffer dehydration" yet they still hadn't told me what the issue was. Took him home and fed him and made sure he had a lot of water and the next day he was perfectly fine. They definitely didn't care and just wanted money. Again wouldn't go here a second time. I wish I could give you all ten stars. This review is overdue. In December of 2014, Dr. Houghton and her staff took care of our old dog. He was suffering from a pretty severe hemoabomen that was related to a splenetic mass. She was very kind and explained all the risks to my family and I. I worked in general practice and they were kind enough to keep my employer and regular DVM involved every step of the way. Unfortunately, My dog, who was an old man did not improve. His blood work and physical state continued to decline. The doctors and staff (I am so very sorry I do not recall the tech's names, please all know I am very thankful for you) took care of my family in an amazing fashion, it had been over a decade since they lost an animal, and while I was well versed in the process they were not. The doctor came in and told us how everything would be done and then let my family have some time with our old man. The techs pulled me out into the hall, made payment easy and quick, even allowed me to have dog's ashes returned to my day practice. They even sent a note to (specially) my mother who was beside herself in grief. The thing that stands out the most in my mind is the comfort they showed my family (specifically my mother, you were all so kind to her). I know it's not common practice to review years later or to have other vet professionals review other clinics, but it's been years, I've moved out of the area. And while I am still in the field, now I work full time in emergency, I feel like that this is required. Perhaps, someone will see this and see the kindness that these professionals showed me, or maybe someone unsure about going to this er clinic will see it when they need it the most. The point is, I am forever thankful for how above and beyond you all went, thank you for all the kindness you shared with my family, even on the hardest day of our lives. Read Less

Eastside Animal Medical has been my vet for over 9yrs. Absolutely LOVE them. They have taken the best care of my Fur Babies. When my Cody was diagnosed with cancer, they told me,"we can treat him here, but, we'd rather you take him to someone who sees this all the time." They could have made alot of money off of me b/c I paid for my "boy" to be treated & he LIVED another 5&1/2yrs. Last night, I had to take my beautiful Lab to their ER b/c she couldn't stop throwing up. She has an esophageal stricture, so I didn't know if she had irritated that, or, if something else was wrong. I always hate having to go at night b/c it's more expensive. But, I guarantee, if a human goes to the ER, it's more expensive as well. The Dr gave some options, we decided on a plan. I went home b/c I had an early appt. It's 33 miles round trip. The first option didn't work, so, the had to do a scope, found the blockage in her throat & removed it. It'll take a few days for throat to heal, but, she should be back to happy self. If I had waited b/c I wanted to pay the lower price, my Baby probably wouldn't have made it. You pay for the convenience & expertise. If you're worried about expense, get pet insurance. I have dealt with pretty much everyone there. Have NEVER had any be rude to me, or, act uncaring. I will never use anyone else as my main vet or ER.Read Less

Not only did my girl survive but when she was stable, the staff taught me to medicate her myself so I could care for her at home and save on continuing inpatient care. They are now her regular vet and Kimmee is treated like royalty. I have never had a dog that was excited to go to the vet but she is always happy to see the people who saved her life. 1starOverpriced services and rude employees who do not seem to know clinic standards. I had to take my friend's dog in for an emergency visit (shoulder laceration) last Thursday around 10pm. The original estimate was $1000-$1200, and included two different forms of anesthesia (only one form is typically used, especially for wound repair). I balked at the price and was prepared to either euthanize the dog or wait until the morning, when suddenly the price dropped to $555. I suspect they routinely overcharge and basically get away with it. I have worked in vet clinics for over 20 years and luckily knew better. I paid the deposit and the dog had the wound repaired. Upon returning, a tech checked me out and said I would have a $95 credit as the total charges were less than the $555 deposit. I SPECIFICALLY asked if follow-up care (drain & suture removal) was covered in the $455 I paid and was told yes. Several times, actually. Every clinic I have ever worked at includes follow-up care in the procedure price; it makes sense, as the vet that does the sutures/staples SHOULD be the ones to remove them. Today my friend took the dog back for drain removal and was told there had been a miscommunication. Eastside apparently does not provide follow-up care. Their own employee did not know basic clinic procedures and failed to provide me with proper information. I called today and spoke with Alexandra. I explained the situation and my belief that they should honor their word to provide drain and suture removal. She was rude and belligerent, stating she would "leave a note" for the employee who told me the incorrect information. I am absolutely APPALLED at this clinic--first, overpricing procedures and second, rude and ill-informed employees. Avoid this clinic unless you have a ton of money to flush down the drain. I had nothing but the best experience here. Doctors Bacon and Baker, and staff, made my husband and I feel like our dog was the most important patient at the hospital. Our dog, Oscar, had bladder stones and a temperature of 106°. He was, for all intents and purposes, hours from death. After rushing him from the vet to the hospital, he was taken back and prepped for surgery right away. Everything was explained to us in a calm and straightforward manner, and we were encouraged to ask questions. Nobody tried to rush us out the door.We were told the cost of everything up front, so there were no surprises. At just under $2000 for the surgery, medicine, x-rays, overnight stay and everything else, the price was extremely reasonable. We received several calls that night and the next day letting us know how he was doing. When we picked Oscar up, I could hardly believe it! He was like a brand new dog! He was wagging his tail  (nub) and jumping on us. It was such a relief. They even gave us a free can of his prescription food to help him take his medicine. These people are the real deal. During the move, we had to go to the closing and Whitney, a vet tech, offered to keep Emma there for several hours. We were in between homes so no where for her to go. Just one example of the care she's received. We've seen every vet there including emergency vet when she ate Gorilla Glue and had to have emergency surgery - top notch every single time. We came on a referral and we will continue to refer people ourselves. Landal Hudlow Read Less

Really disappointed in this place overall. Extremely overpriced, RUDE receptionist-she literally laughed at me when I complained that they failed to tell me that famotidine, the prescription I needed was the exact same thing as over the counter PEPCID. My dog gets bad stomach upset a couple of times per year. The first time, we took her to Eastside and the male doctor was WONDERFUL. He thoroughly examined her, gave her a script for famotidine and it helped quickly. The second time it happened, we used the remainder of the pills and didn't have to go in. Today, our dog was hard bellied and feeling bad again. I called to see if I could get another script for the famotidine and they said nope-they'd want to see my dog for a visit. Well we cannot afford it so I said thanks anyway. Then I got on Google to see if I could find famotidine somewhere else or even thru an online pharmacy. When I Googled it, it popped up all over that it is nothing more than Pepcid that you can buy in the grocery store! I got a little peeved that the animal hospital didn't bother telling me this info. When I stated my disappointment, the receptionist chuckled at me and said she isn't allowed to tell me that information because she's not a doctor. GOD FORBID THEY NOT GET OFFICE VISIT MONEY! I called TWO other local vets and asked them if I could get a rx for famotidine-knowing I wouldn't be able to likely, but I wanted to see if they'd mention to me that it's Pepcid. BOTH DID! One place even told me to put it in a spoonful of canned pumpkin. We won't be going back to Eastside ever again-emergency or not. They're far too expensive anyway... Read Less

Although we had a heartbreaking and had to euthanize our beloved 9 year old german shepherd last night, my husband and I thought the compassion shown by the veterinarian and staff during a late night emergency visit was wonderful. The preliminary exam and explanation of a splenic tumor leading to the rupturing of our pet's spleen and internal bleeding was easy to understand, and options on what courses we could take carefully explained. ER Vet services are going to be expensive, but thank goodness we have an option when years ago we would just have to see if our pet would make it through the night. well done Eastside. Read Less

I waited to write this review until I had a chance to digest all that occurred during my encounters with staff at Eastside Animal Medical Center.Frankly it was a rough experience. My dogs injuries from slicing her lower hind leg area on a piece of exposed re-bar aside, the interactions with staff were very trying. Yes, they are entitled to make money however they are in the business of taking care of animals in distress and there is also an element of compassion that is owed to the animal and the customer during an emergency. The young lady at the window did not even ask what was wrong with my dog until after all the prerequisite paperwork had been completed and signed. After the vet did take a look at my dogs injuries I was provided with an estimate for her care. Payment had to be made before any additional work would be performed. After reviewing the estimate I asked to speak directly with the vet to discuss which items were absolutely needed, which could be deferred or provided later in the care. We came to an agreement and the amount was paid.During her operation or care I received a call that a drain would need to be placed on her leg and that it would be $28. I agreed and waited to hear further.Upon checking out, I was informed a total due of around $70 would have to be paid. I explained that I negotiated the rate before you provided care and only approved the additional $28 charge. She demanded payment pointing to the forms that the estimate was a range. I asked her if that was the case why did she call for authorization for the $28 then because it was also within the estimate range as well. After attempting to maintain a calm discussion she continued to demand payment (which ended up causing an overdraft fee) and then she spent 10 minutes demanding an ID to photocopy since I used a credit card. After telling her one would not be provided since the card is valid and signed and she simply kept repeating over-and-over that she needed an ID. Better luck next time lady but unless you can show me a law that requires me or compels me to provide an ID you can forget it.In my own opinion, if you are looking for a compassionate facility to take care of your families pets, I advise looking elsewhere. This facility seems to be more focused on who can and cannot pay, more than in finding solutions that work for both the animal, client and the facility. Read Less

I started taking my dog there a couple of years ago after a very positive experience during a after hours visit.  Since then the vets have all been great, the rest of the staff has been hit or miss.  But this time takes the cake...I had to take my dog in for a nonscheduled visit and called on my way to let them know I was bringing her in.  Was told they were booked but I could bring her in...I told them this was something that couldn't wait...when we got there we were left in the waiting room almost 2 hours!!!!  But what really takes the cake is when an elderly couple was called back with their dogs and they asked the tech to take us back...when she refused the gentleman said "cant you see this dog is in distress".  The tech still refused and said she would come right back to get us...this was a lie...we waited well over 20 more minutes.  We finally got back to a room...were left there...her condition grew worse and I had to react in a way in which I don't normally like to....but it got the vet in the room....and to make a long story short...she died...we were right there where they could have helped us and they refused...it wasn't about money...money was no object here....How could they refuse to take us ahead even at the request of another customer...guess the customers have more heart than the lousy employees do there....would she still be alive if they didn't make us wait over 2 hours????  If that couple with the two dogs who were so willing to give up their appointment for me and my great dane...thank you for your kindness....it ment so much....but they need better staff... I ended up here because of circumstances beyond my control. While out of town last weekend, my brother (who was pet-sitting) called to tell me that my cat was huddled in a corner and breathing very heavily. I immediately called my regular vet, Gwinnett Animal Clinic, where my cat had been given a clean bill of health the previous week, and their answering service referred me to Eastside. My brother took her over and she was seen right away. I was 6 hours away, but the doctors kept my brother (in person) and me (over the phone) up to date through every step. They did x-rays, lab tests, and had her in a respirator. After diagnosing my poor kitty with lymphoma and heart disease, the doctor very kindly gave us all of our options over the phone. He even told me the conclusions he'd come to after speaking to another vet at a different hospital. In the end we had to put her to sleep. It was very hard as I couldn't make it home in time, but the doctors and staff were so kind to my brother, myself, and my cat. They walked us through the entire process, were very, very considerate and respectful, laid out many, many options. The loss of a beloved pet is never a good experience, but this hospital made it as bearable as it could have possibly been. Since it was an emergency, after-hours visit I was planning to have a huge bill, but it ended up being less than $1000. They referred me to UGA for a necropsy and to a local Pet Cemetery and Crematorium, and even called both places and scheduled the transportation of my cat. After this experience I've decided to make Eastside my primary vet for my other two cats. I cannot say enough kind words about the staff and the experience. I will write another review after I've brought my other two kitties in for check-ups and see what their prices are like, but I can tell you I am very pleased with the care and professionalism. Took my dog there and he needed immediate procedure on his eye which popped out do to a fight.  They wanted to charge me between $1300 and $1600 for the procedure. They wouldn't do anything unless I payed them right then. I couldn't afford it, so they charged me $200 and sent me on my way with some ointment to keep his eye from drying out. Went to another nearby vet. They did the procedure in 10 minutes, with medicines, and all the stuff I needed to take care of him it was only $286, I had them give him an antibiotic shot at my request and I was out the door for a little over $300. I believe that Eastside Animal Hospital is VERY over priced. If you can find another place to take your animal...there are plenty out there that are less expensive! Read Less

Read Less

I ended up at Eastside as an emergency work in when my new puppy got Parvo. I had already anticipated a sizable bill as I have fought this aggressive virus in the past. I have been so pleased with the care and genuine affection that these folks have for my girl that I am going to start bringing her older brothers to Eastside. I may pay a little more but I could never put a pricetag on my pets health. Read Less

I do feel they take advantage of pet owners who do not know any better. Read Less

Our sweet pup fell ill and there ended up not being anything that could be done to save him. When they had other more critical cases that needed to come ahead of ours, they called to let us know and to ease any concerns that it was taking longer than expected. And when they had to keep him overnight, there were no extra charges, since it was due to their case load, not his actual case. I have had animals my whole life and am very particular about their care since they obviously can't speak for themselves. The prices are very reasonable, the staff is knowledgeable and kind. The clinic is always clean and well maintained. Most animal clinics smell like animals. ..this one doesn't. I've brought my dog here for over 2 years now. I would never go anywhere else. The one time he had surgery, (neuter/chip placement ) they called to check on him upon his return home. Each time he has received his immunizations, they call within 2 days to check on him. I find that amazing. They really care about the animals and their family. I would give them 10 stars if I could! Read Less

Read Less
