Brought in our 6 month old dog that was sick and throwing up. Gradous looked him over and gave him a diagnosis of GOK. (God only knows) Next day took dog to another vet- tested positive for parvo. How can a vet miss this? ? Read Less

Dr Gratis has been a practicing vet longer than I've been alive. This clinic is just over the county line in Burke County but his prices are 1/4 of the costs of any vet in Richmond or Columbia county. It's worth the drive!!! Read Less

I can't begin to say how utterly disappointed I am with Dr. Gradous. If "0" was a rating, he'd have it. I set up an appointment with him for a small procedure involving a lump on my dogs leg. I drove hours to the appointment, because I was disappointed with my local vet and heard this guy was good from a friend. Once I got there, he never even looked at my dog. The vet assistants did, and tried to describe what it was. I had papers on the lump from a lab test, and explained I came in hoping to have it removed with local anesthesia. He wouldn't let me speak without interrupting me, and seemed irritated with the fact that I was taking up his time. He didn't want to hear my concerns and acted as though I was stupid for wanting to take the most cautionary option available. Then he tells me I can schedule the appointment to have it taken care of...what?? That's WHY I came all that way in the first place! That's what the appointment was FOR. On top of that, he mocked me for giving my dog a type of non-allergy food that another vet had recommended (and worked, btw), and wouldn't let me explain anything. It was maddening. He even had a drawer full of little papers explaining how dumb he believes non-allergy food is that he apparently doles out to "brainwashed" (HIS WORDS) customers who try to choose that option for their pet, based on advice from other doctors. I've never felt so rushed, belittled, and talked down to by a vet, not to mention he didn't seem to give a damn about looking at my dog or listening to my concerns. Even the vet assistants seemed embarrassed by his behavior. I'm glad he didn't do the procedure that morning...if he's half as rushed with that as he is talking to you, I can't imagine how that would've turned out. He's a pushy, mean, cranky old man with no patience and no respect for his clients. I will never waste my time again and highly recommend you find a vet who takes 4 minutes to act like they give a damn. Read Less

Dr. Gradous is old school. Used to love that. His "bedside manner" never bothered me. I trusted his judgement impeccably. Then it got to a point where it was a 5 second diagnosis and he hadn't even really looked at the animal. But that isn't really deserving of the one star. Its the culmination of shoddy diagnosing and the 50/50 chance a rude technician is working earn the 1 star. I have never as a grown man been more upset than after having to deal with a couple ( not all, just two I believe "testaments to veterinary medicine" ) of the staff he has working for him ( but never him ). Thankfully I found a wonderful vet, who takes his time and his support staff is exceptional. Just wish it didn't take 5 years to finally go enough is enough. The new vet also gives hope. There is way to tell you the possible prognosis without you feeling demoralized in the process. My dogs are mi familia, not just pets. Read Less

My family has been seeing Dr. Gradous off and on for 50 years. Does he have a bad bedside manner? Hmmm...some people might be offended by his brusqueness (he's always great with the animals) and I've certainly overheard him berate an owner who wasn't taking care of his dog. I guess it comes down to what you're looking for in a vet. I don't care how gruff he is with me if my dogs will always get the best treatment. Dr. Gradous has probably forgotten more about veterinary medicine then the rest of the doctors in the area even know. He definitely has a huge store of experience and common sense to draw on and it shows. I live in McCormick, SC and am willing to drive to see him whenever we need anything other than routine immunizations. Over the years, when faced with "that" decision, I have asked what would he do if it were his dog. I've always followed his advice, whether it be further treatment or letting them go, and though sometimes hard, I've never found myself regretting any of those decisions. Read Less

Dr. Gradous has been my family's vet for several years now. He and his staff have been with me through two dogs and two cats, spanning for over 13 years. They have always been the most friendly, kind, and welcoming people I have ever met and I am so thankful for all they have done for me and my animals over these years. Their rates are some of the best I've seen and you never pay for more than what needs doing. When I found out my cat would need shots to combat a bad liver infection that was causing her jaundice, my heart sank. I thought I would be shelling out a hefty sum to treat her and wasn't sure I could afford it. Springwood not only eased my worries about her diagnosis but I wasn't charged but $60 for a week of those shots, much less than I'm sure I would have paid at any other clinic. They explained everything I would need to know and how to research the illness, as well as showed me hands on what I needed to do. I couldn't ask for better teachers and greater service. Dr. Gradous is the best vet I have come in contact with so far. Not only are his services affordable but also the wait is never too long! I have read reviews saying that he is not the friendliest or that he has "terrible bedside manner" but every time I go he has always been very kind to me and my animals. They are busy, but your pet will get excellent care with Dr. Gradous and his staff. Reasonable prices, too. They usually do surgery in the mornings and sometimes you get the voice mail. I won't use any other vet. Read Less
