I've been coming to Johns Creek veterinary clinic for about six months now with my Belgian malinois. I've seen Dr. Hargett and Dr. Kim, and I've had nothing but good experiences! Gracie can be difficult to deal with, as she is a retired working dog, but the whole team here is very accommodating and sweet. You can tell that everybody here really does love what they do! It's hard to find a good vet, but I feel like I've found it here. Read Less

After stumbling across these other reviews and taking many years to consider what happened in my situation, I finally feel free and comfortable to share my experience with this clinic.  I lost my cat of 18 years back in 2014.  It was one of the most devastating events of my life.  I can't help but think that negligence on this clinic's part, played a role.  When I first brought him in, I do believe he was already starting to get sick.  He had shown a few signs here and there.  I took him in to get groomed (he had long hair), and to look at a few of the issues he was having.  I am convinced it was the grooming that killed him.I fault myself still to this day for this.  The guilt consumes me.  The called me and told me he wasn't tolerating his bath well, and that they were going to give him a sedative that's safe for older cats, to help relax him.  Like a fool, I agreed to this.  I assumed they were experts.  Two weeks after receiving that shot, he was gone.  His kidneys never recovered from it.  Couldn't process it out of his system. In fairness, I do believe his kidneys were already failing.  However, that sedative sent them into hyper-failure mode, and he died a slow death.  I believe I still would have lost him about a month or two later, but the shot sped it up.Every day I wish I had told them to stand down on that shot (started with a D).  My poor baby.  I feel so irresponsible.  I didn't protect him.  I didn't research the sedative.  I trusted the experts.  My advice:  If you have an older kitty, even one in good health, DO NOT accept a sedative of any kind unless it is medically necessary.  A bath is not medically necessary.  RIP my little boy. Dr. Hargett lacks professionalism and any bedside manner.  We have been customers here since 1998.  We have seen a change in business practice with lots of charges, unnecessary tests, and procedures.  But, we have a hard time saying no when it comes to our pets.  His condescending, smartest guy in the room attitude is what will kill this business.  That's why the staff is turning over.  Doc, you are going to learn, you can't talk to customers the way you do.  Try Ivy Hill down the street.  Dr. Tillis is great Read Less

If I could give zero stars to this clinic, I would.  I boarded my dog here (not for the first time) for a week and a half and within 24 hours of bringing her home, she died.  I called JCVC to ask what happened during her stay and they said unless the dog died while at their clinic, they did not accept responsibility.  I brought in a healthy dog -- give me a break. Obviously assigning blame is not going to bring our sweet dog back but I do believe her death was due to their negligence and would never recommend this place or its vets to anyone. Read Less

The negative reviews on Yelp about Johns Creek Veterinary Clinic are shocking to me.  For 10 years they have cared my pet with thorough and professional care and great compassion.Sometimes sad things happen with ourselves and our pets that no doctor can fix and it's human nature to want to find someone responsible but I simply do not believe that the docs or techs here would do anything but give loving and knowledgeable care to every animal that comes through the doors.Drs. Hargett and Dr. Kim are have been fantastic.  My cat is almost 18 years old and I credit the care she has received at Johns Creek Veterinary Clinic for helping me keep her well. Please read reviews other other places, they seem to be more accurate. The only issue I have ever had is with the front desk staff not communicating some services I had requested but they are very busy and let's face it, everyone makes mistakes.  That was twice in 10 years which is pretty amazing.I cannot say enough good things about this facility and these docs - it's a wonderful place.  You can feel it when you walk in the door, see it in how clean it is and you know it when you talk with the docs and see how well they look after your furry family members. UPDATE- It has been clear that this clinic has lost its way. Having three dogs all with chronic medical conditions (a 12 year old with arthritis, a 6 year old with severe hip dysplasia and a 3 year old with Addison's) we are well versed in both prescriptions and vet costs. Despite cost increases and their decision not to match online rx costs, we still went. When our 3 year old dog was brought in last fall having what turned out to be an Addison's crisis, she was initially misdiagnosed as swallowing something and we were told thar she needed x-rays for $1000. We explained that it was not possible since she did not pick things up off of the floor and asked that they consider other options. It took a while for them to get off of the x-ray diagnosis and fortunately they found the addisons. With the bill arriving at $1500+ without the x-rays, I feel that we were pushed to spend much more without a valid reason. However, the breaking point was when I sent in a request for a refill for Metacam which two of my dogs take- after not hearing from them for a week,-I called them the day before Easter where they told me they couldn't give me a refill without blood work on one of the dogs I offered to bring him in the next week but that I had already paid the online pharmacy for the rx and I needed at least enough med to tide me over- not good enough -it had to be that day. So as opposed to helping two dogs, they made sure that one dog was denied meds without any reason at all. That is simply unacceptable. We are now moving on. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We have been taking our dogs to Johns Creek for the last 6+ yrs- We have seen them care for dogs ranging from our newest puppy to the end of life for our beloved black lab. We have seem them handle both the most straightforward things and some problems that seem to be rare. The strength of their services lies in their caring for their patients and their willingness to help find specialists for things outside their area of expertise-everything from allergists for severe food allergies to surgeons for hip dysplasia in puppies. I can't say that I always find the office to be the most efficient- but I can say they care and they try to do whats best for your four legged family members. They-as most good vets- are not cheap, however, they recognize when you are spending large amounts and have taken actions to try and help keep the costs of services and prescriptions down. I would recommend them highly. Read Less

Great care and service but high prices. We have been going to JCVC for over 3 years now and have been overall pleased with the service they provide. Dr. Hargett is an excellent vet and does a great job providing details and making sure you have all of your questions answered. The group went through a phase (I believe after they were sold) where it seemed like there was a new front office staff every 6 months. Some of those new staff members weren't that friendly, but it seems like that has changed recently.I will add that I no longer buy medications or prescriptions through JCVC due to their very high prices. It is not a rant, spam or store bought....I just brought my pup home from the Blue Pearl hospital in Sandy Springs after paying them $2,137.15 for hospital stay, ultrasound, fluids, examinations and a arthroscopic biopsy. I had to rush him there Friday night because no one at JCVC caught his liver disease. The specialist at the hospital informed me that the damage to his liver would have taken months to form and possibly treatable if caught early. Why the vets at JCVC didn't catch this over the course of many months that included an expensive "Wellness" blood test, is inexcusable. We took our new puppy to this clinic and everyone was very friendly at first.  Our puppy was prescribed flea and tick medication that did not fully protect against all ticks which then resulted in a tick on our dog after being told he would be fine to be out and about.  We then took him in for a grooming and he was given a vaccination without our approval, without our knowledge and without a phone call to inform us.  When we took him home, he was vomiting and lethargic.  We only found out they had given him the vaccine because they called us to charge for the outstanding balance for the vaccine ( apparently they did have our number).  Do not entrust your pet to a clinic that is not thorough and clear with the health and care of your pet.  I called to follow up with the vet and she could have cared less and said she would just follow up with her receptionist and made sure to get my credit card for the balance.  We cancelled the scheduled neuter procedure and 6 Month checkup(which would cost upwards of $800). I've used this vet for almost 10 years. It was much better back in the day w/ the old staff. Leanna, Joy, Christal are sorely missed. The staff now are kind and compassionate but they don't stay long. Just when they get to know you and your pet they're gone. I think their overhead has increased significantly because they have become OUTRAGEOUSLY overpriced. They are in an affluent part of Atlanta and I imagine the majority of their patients are better able to afford the high price of pet care. Sadly, I am not. They charge for tests that aren't necessary and don't get me started on what a complete RIPOFF dental cleanings are. You will not get a cleaning w/out extractions, xrays before and after and on and on until your bill is over a grand. High prices doesn't always mean great care. In this case it means high overhead and greed. Ultimately..... you'll get good care for your pet, but you're gonna pay through the nose for it! Read Less

2016 Update We have two new pups Finn and Evie and still enjoy getting their care at Johns Creek Veterinary Clinic. The staff all love on the pups and we get in and out quickly when we need to go. We think this is a great place to take your pet for care. 2015 We have been taking our dog Angus to Johns Creek Veterinary Clinic since he was a pup, and he is 12 years old now. The docs are knowledgeable, the staff is friendly and quick, and we have gotten excellent care for Angus, including checkups, shots, dental cleanings, care for minor injuries and even surgeries. I would recommend Johns Creek Veterinary Clinic to anyone with a pet. Bo Alexander Read Less

I brought both my cats here for a check up, shots etc. I got an appointment scheduled the day before and didn't wait when I got there, which I love and those services certainly don't go unnoticed. The exam on both my pets were thorough and felt they had a good yearly visit and all my questions were answered. However, for only a four star and not five is their communication in this office is pretty bad. I gave the vet technician a few issues my youngest cat was having and she didn't relay that over to the doctor and had to catch him before he walked out. Also, some extra treatment my car received over regular shots was not put in our final invoice which messed up our total and idk but everyone else but I HATE being told I have to pay more when my final price was already disclosed. Shows a lot of unprofessionalism and disorganization in the office. Aside from that the people here are very nice and you tell that everyone loves their work. Read Less

If I could post a (-5 star) review I would. The only positive experience I had when dealing with Johns Creek Veterinary Clinic was their front desk staff. Those employees are kind and personable. I left my 8 month old German Shepherd with them over a weekend in December of 2014 for a standard boarding. When I dropped him off they took him weighed him and let him in. Once I was on the way out they said he was due for yearly shots so I said that's fine. Then I thought how he wasn't even a year old. So I notified them he wasn't due for anything according to his reputable vet, Northeast Georgia Veterinary. They then informed me that I was correct. Then I was told 4 other stories about how he needed more shots. Having read other reviews of this clinic it is very clear the health of the animal is concern number two compared to the profit of this organization. However also reading the other reviews I fully expect a comment by the President blaming it all fully on me. Should this happen I divulge more of the details of my experience.    Hope this review was helpful to future patients and animal lovers in our area.Happy Holidays. Read Less

Like doctors and techs no use for the groomerI picked up my dog today from grooming and was SHOCKED to see his body fur had been cut when I specifically wrote it not be cut....the groomers concession was to refund $20 as he receved a partial groom. The fact is she deserved nothing for doing such a bad job - she may know how to cut a dogs hair but she knows nothing about breed specific grooming.  HE WILL NOT BE GOING BACK FOR GROOMING, and I will not be able to board him because they bath the dogs and she might get carried away again. Growing up, my family brought our cairn terrier, Zoey, here and continued to take her here until her passing in 2010. Zoey had diabetes and JCVC was wonderful with her care and supervising her during the rough disease.Eventually I got a dog of my own and when I moved back home after college, brought my Lhasa Apso Theo to JCVC for several years. We now live in NYC and come home for work/the holidays several times a year. Over Thanksgiving, Theo was itching irregularly so I brought him in to JCVC and they kindly saw him even though he has been seeing a vet in NYC for about 2 years now. They solved the case of the itchiness and also found he had a shattered back tooth that could possibly get infected, and recommended I reach out to the NYC vet.Upon returning to NYC I consulted Theo's vet for an estimate on extracting the tooth. They quoted me an insanely high price that was to the point of prohibiting us from being able to get it done. I called JCVC and the tech who had found Theo's shattered tooth provided me with a quote and a full summary of what the extraction and a dental cleaning would entail. Theo just turned 5 so he had never had a dental procedure before.JCVC's fair price (though dental is still expensive but you pay for quality care and anesthesia) enabled us to have Theo's tooth extracted. The procedure went extremely well and within days I could sense Theo was back to his normal happy and peppy self from before -- the tooth must have been causing him pain unbeknownst to us. I have to give kudos to JCVC, Dr. Chad Hargett and tech Rachel for their excellent customer service, overall pet care and especially kind treatment of me as owner and Theo as patient in the dental saga of 2013!!I have also used their boarding and grooming facilities before and would recommend both. You can pay extra for your pet to be boarded in the hospital portion of the facility if he/she has special needs or is sensitive to boarding which is what we did with Theo after he had a bad experience elsewhere. He returned to us happy and healthy as ever! Read Less

I just recently took my cat, Nicko, to this clinic for the first time and had a great experience. Nicko was having some unusual inflammation in his gums so I immediately made an appointment for him to see Dr.Chad Hargett.  When we arrived for our appointment just a few days later I found the entire front desk staff to be extremely nice and courteous. They went out of their way to get me and Nicko into a room faster since he was having a bit of a freak out. The vet tech who we saw first was really nice, very personable and patient with Nicko (who can be a real jerk at Dr. visits). We didn't have to wait long until we saw Dr. Hargett who was just awesome! He also was really patient with Nicko and identified the problem with his gums immediately. He explained things thoroughly and also took the time to help me figure out what vaccinations where absolutely necessary for a strictly indoor cat. I always appreciate a vet who makes me feel like they are not only providing excellent care for my pets but truly understand financial limitations without guilt or pressure. Nicko received a steroid injection (or something along those lines) for the inflammation, got up to date with only the necessary vaccinations and we were good to go. The inflammation and swelling are totally gone and Nicko is just as happy and healthy as can be. Dr. Hargett and his team are absolutely fantastic and we will absolutely be back for all of our veterinarian needs. Read Less

I found this clinic about a year ago through yelp. My cat at 4 years at the time began showing symptoms of kidney failure. My cat's doctor was Dr. Kim, and she gave the best vet care I have ever seen. She was very understanding and was always helping to cut our costs without skimping on necessities (though the treatments, tests, and medications always still ended up being very pricey). The receptionists were always very nice as well. When I left for college I felt comfortable enough to let my mother take my cat to them while I was away.Sometime at the end of this spring, my mother got into a car accident in their parking lot. The clinic filed a claim with their insurance. However, my mom disagreed and so she defended herself accordingly with her insurance company. Even though the situation was being handled by the insurance companies, my mom still felt uncomfortable about going to the clinic and asked me to find a new vet. My mother isn't very confident in her English and so I often have to talk for her. I called them requesting for my cat's medical records. They explained that I needed approval from the doctor. Dr. Hargett called a day later to ask why we were leaving. I had barely mentioned the insurance disagreement before he raised his voice and very angrily explained that my mother was wrong. He then proceeded to harangue me about how my mother had definitely damaged their property, that he had seen everything, and that I needed to believe him. I explained to him that I was not at the site of the accident and couldn't judge who was right or wrong.  He then sharply told me that he was not going to release the records until he spoke to my mother because the files were under my mother's name. Surprised, I told him I would call him back in 5 minutes. My mother was driving at the time and when I explained the situation, she reminded me that the records were under my name. Less than a minute within hanging up, I called the clinic and asked the receptionist whose name the records were under. To my horror I discovered they were under my name. I then requested for the doctor, but the receptionist hesitantly told me he had just left. About an hour later the doctor called me back. I immediately apologized if I had offended him by bringing up the subject, and restated that I only wanted my cat's medical records to change vets. He then continued to heatedly explain that my mother was wrong, he couldn't believe that my mother and I didn't believe him, and he was appalled that after taking care of my cat for years we were doing this to him. After a lengthy speech, he ended the conversation exclaiming that he would not release the records and hung up on me.I only want to clarify that we have not been taking my cat to this clinic for more than a year, Dr. Kim had always been our doctor, I never once raised my voice or interrupted him on the phone, and I never clarified whether I believed my mother was at fault or not.I was at a loss of words. It was unbelievable to me that that had just occurred. The situation was even more stressful because my cat constantly needs IV fluids and at the time his bag of IV fluid was running out. I finally decided to write a letter officially requesting for my cat's medical records. I kept the letter as succinct as possible and mailed it to them as certified mail. I waited 3 days, after receiving confirmation from USPS that they had received the letter, without a response. I had left my phone number, email, and address for them to contact me. I received nothing.I was very close to calling the Better Business Bureau and the Georgia Veterinary State Board, but then decided to give them another chance. I called Sugar Creek Veterinary Hospital based on a friend's recommendation and asked that they request for my cat's records. Johns Creek Veterinary Clinic refused. Unfortunately, I was en route to return to college and had to wait for the next day to return Sugar Creek Veterinary Hospital's call. I called the next day for Sugar Creek Vet. Hospital to request the records again. Miraculously, the second time was the charm, or rather, half charm. That second time they faxed over my cat's most recent exam record. They didn't even send all of his records.I'm severely disappointed with what happened. It's even more heartbreaking that this man refused to release my cat's records without regards for my cat's health. I am completely at peace with this man being angry at my mother, and even myself (although I had nothing to do with the problem), but cannot accept that he put my cat's health at risk because of a silly squabble. If you want a clinic that actually cares for your pet, do not bring your pet here. Also it's really a shame to read the owner's comment below. During our phone conversation, I was told he and his staff chased and saved my cat from running directly into Medlock Br. Rd., but the comment below says otherwise. I only hope I was never lied to during my past visits. Read Less

I've been meaning to write this review for a long time. I came in as a new patient when my cat stopped eating and started losing a lot of weight. She was jaundice and we later found out that she had developed a liver disorder. When we walked in, we immediately knew we would be in good hands. The staff was very friendly and made us feel very welcome. We grabbed a latte from their awesome machine, and waited for our little patient to be seen. The vet was very straight forward with us. He had a strong suspicion as to what was wrong, and that we had brought her in just in time because cats deteriorate rather quickly when they have this condition and aren't seen about immediately. It was true, our cat had fallen sick very quickly and had gotten much worse with each passing day. He said our cat had a good chance of pulling through, and that just the week before there was another cat that had come in too late. It scared us to think of losing our sweet cat, but I was comforted by his optimism. He ran the necessary tests and knew exactly what treatment to provide for her. Thank God. The treatment was tedious (our very unhappy cat was NOT feeling up to force feedings and having shots) but it was worth every penny to see her act like her normal self again after a while. I am happy to say that our kitty, Orange Beast, is alive and well a year later, and she is propped up against me snoozing as we speak. They really did save her life. We live in New Orleans now, and are still in the process of establishing a new vet here ("vet hopping" for now until we find a decent one) but I absolutely recommend JCV for anyone that is looking for a vet in the area. I trust them completely and would take our kitty back in a heart beat if I'm ever in the area again. Read Less

I love this place because of how it feels when you come in. Its like this little home that is so cozy and welcoming. The lobby is decked out with a spiffy little latte machine that is free for everyone brave enough to use the "machine" Only catch is that you really can't stay at the lobby too long as it is tiny, and that's a problem because my dog thinks he's bigger than everybody else and will try to attack dogs 10 times bigger than him, no really 10 times. I wish they had a slightly bigger lobby so i don't have to apologize constantly for my dog's little man complex. Staff are absolutely amazing. All super helpful and experienced. The veterinarians are great, always willing to answer my 1000 question without making me feel awful, actually they welcome it. My family recently got a Papillon puppy (yes, AWWWW! is right!) and I think one of our greatest concerns about bringing home a new pup was finding the perfect vet. We had another dog for almost 11 years before she passed away, and she had a RIDICULOUS amount of health issues that no vet was able to solve (it got to the point that we saw around 6 different vets within 1 year). Needless to say, we had pretty horrible vet experiences and certainly didn't want to relive those days. So, after searching around for what felt like a million hours, I decided to try out this vet and so far, so good! The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, and the vet technicians know a ton of information. They thoroughly address any concerns you have and keep you at ease, and of course, Dr. Hargett is really great -- I only saw him for a little bit, but he was very pleasant and offered extra information about the Papillon breed in particular. Recently, we had to leave our barely 3-month-old pup at their boarding for a few days, and obviously, we were quite apprehensive since she's just so young and tiny! However, she came back as happy as ever, and actually seemed to have grown a bit! They gave us an evaluation sheet, which rated her as "adorable" hahaha Boarding is relatively inexpensive compared to other boarding services (PetSmart, other vets, other boarding center) and believe me, I have checked them all. Daily rates are based on your pet's weight, which makes sense, and is pretty affordable. However, they do offer many other optional services (such as a fancy bath, brushing teeth, extra play time, etc.), which cost extra. The only thing I thought was unclear was the bath: I understood that the bath was included in the basic boarding rate, but apparently this mandatory basic bath is an extra $20-something - a cost I wasn't expecting. I mean, it didn't cost an arm and a leg, but still, that wasn't clear to me from the beginning. Oh well...Well, since we're on the negatives, the only other "negative" thing is the size of the lobby/reception area - it is fairly small and cramped, and if it's bursting with patients going in and out, it's kind of inconvenient. It would be great if they expanded or something! But otherwise, the clinic is very homey feeling, cozy, and comfortable.Oh! Don't forget - if you give your email, you get coupons! Sweeeeet. LOVE this.Hope to be coming around for the next 15 or so years.... ;) Read Less

This week we will find out if my dog lives or dies depending on how bad his liver is damaged. My only comment to the public is to do your homework before you pick a vet. Ask your neighbors. Read the review boards before you decide. (NOTE: Make sure the reviews are real. Check other reputable boards like Yelp and Glassdoor which gives reviews from employees.) We took our new puppy to this clinic and everyone was very friendly at first. Read Less

My experience with the vets and techs has been good...I am a little nervous now about his surgery Monday and will let you know how that goes. This rating is on grooming only. Read Less

They also take their time to get to know your dog and its just great to see that they care.Only bad thing is, its probably more expensive than your typical vet, but so worth it. I will always trust my pup with JCV. Read Less
