I have a new bearded dragon as of a month and a half now. He had problems eating from the start and I couldn't get him to properly eat anything. We waited to see if he would adjust but he just never did, so when I found an exotic pet veterinarian, I was very hopeful. Walking in the atmosphere is fantastic, the techs are all incredibly kind and attentive. While filling out paperwork, one grabbed my little beardie just so she could get him on a heating pad, very sweet. Paperwork was a breeze, and as soon as the veterinarian got there (I was very early), he immediately got to work. I had been escorted into a private room for my bearded dragon, and I could hear the vet immediately start working. He hadn't even put his keys down before he began checking on all the animals currently there, including the cutest cat and dog that roam freely and comfortably (incredibly well trained btw). He taught me how to tube feed my lizard, prescribed him some antibiotics and sent me on my way within 15 minutes of him getting there. Fantastic environment, wonderful staff, and expert care. Java says thank you, he's already doing much better! Read Less

Great place and amazing Veterinarian! Dr. Colby has the personality of someone who honestly loves and knows animals.  Every time we bring our kitties in he is there to rub and pet them, and to talk to us. He explains things in terms we can understand, even if it takes drawing diagrams :)I have to agree with other reviews about the sneaky charges sometimes, but even that doesn't deserve loosing a star because they work with us by splitting the bill for payments.I can imagine how upsetting it may be to pay for the procedure and then have your pet die, but this place is truly incredible and I am not a Vet to argue that my animal was 100% healthy and well when I brought it for a surgery.  My son had a healthy hamster who started acting funny, so after a series of pricey meds it was sad to see him pass. But we were not blaming the hospital's treatment tactic or Dr Colby's expertise.  This is life and unexpected should be expected sometimes.I have no other words, but praise for Windward Hospital, and condolences for those who lost their fury family members. We specifically chose to come to Windward when we moved to the Atlanta area due to Dr Colby's expertise and we have not been let down! After losing our last rabbit very suddenly and having a terrible vet experience on the same day, my husband and I were paranoid about finding a reliable vet for our bunny, Corduroy. Even though Windward is a drive for us from Dunwoody, we have had the best experience there and it keeps us coming back. Their discounted rabbit neutering program was a godsend, and when our little boy didn't feel good the next day, Dr Colby was ready to answer all of our questions, send us home with some meds, and give us his cell phone number in case we needed anything. Luckily, Corduroy was back to normal hours after taking his medicine. He has since been back for boarding when we take trips. I wouldn't trust anyone else to watch him. Thank you, Windward! Read Less

If I could give ZERO stars, I would. I have a very sick dog, Sissy...sick for over 11 years of her 12.5 years of life. I extremely familiar with veterinarian care & costs. I can read bloodwork about as good as any vet. I give her intramuscular shots. I have given her sub-q liquids.  Between her Addison's, failing liver & chronic pancreatitis, there probably isn't much I haven't had to go through, taking her to specialists all over. In January, I was looking for a good vet to switch to...because vet charges have gotten ridiculous. I spent over $5000 last year just on my pet's care...of that, $4400 is vet bills & scripts - there were no hospitalizations in that amount. I found a sole practitioner in Alpharetta off Jones Bridge Rd - Windward Animal Hospital. I talked to Dr. Colby on the phone before switching. He really sounded like a good man. He told me his rates, that he would never over-charge, give me a multi-pet discount even, etc...etc...etc...so I figured I'd give him a try.Well, I want to WARN people of this place. First of all, they do tests without asking, then over-charge for them. I'm talking about doing an x-ray on Sissy when I just brought her in to meet the dr and have a visit.  She wasn't sick at the time. They charged me $150 just for the x-ray, $225 total. Crazy! He wanted to do the xray because a the record from a UGA visit 3 yrs ago stated she had bladder stones.I haven't used WAH but for a few nail & butt visits but the one sick visit for Sissy is what I want to tell you about - the main reason for this review: I took Sissy there with what I knew was the start of pancreatitis. I have dealt with this for years now. I take her in...I tell them I want a full blood panel. I did not authorize a Snap test (another test for pancreatitis which is useless for Sissy as she is always in a state of pancreatitis).  They did the Snap test without asking, and did not do a full blood panel - not giving me her enzyme levels - IMPORTANT TO HAVE. A Snap test is positive or negative only...doesn't tell you what her values are. They gave her fluids - however telling me she was ONLY MILDLY dehydrated and had her for 4 hours. I went to pick her up...and they told me my bill was $875. My jaw dropped. $179 for a partial blood panel - I've never paid that much for a full panel. Over $300 just for fluids...they told me that she was anxious in the crate & they put her in the office & that's when they took the IV out & did a sub-q inj. I've never paid over $30 per sub-q injection.  Nearly $200 for a Snap test that is normally $130 but again, not authorized.  I went up to the hospital the next morning with a copy of the last vet bill for the same services...$325 total (full blood panel, sub-q injection, Serenia & visit) & asked Dr. Colby why I was charged OVER $500 more?  They knocked the bill down to $620 in the end.  They are ROBBING people.  There are people out there that may put their dogs down not knowing that they are going to a vet that is SO overcharging for their services.I asked how much they charge for Sissy's Percorten-V. I've been paying $176 per 4ml. They told me $340.  I laughed. She actually said she'd call me back because she even thought it was a mistake. Now, I do know the price went up about $20. My new vet is $208 per 4ml.  My online Vet Rx is $197.  So, it did go up...but come on. They called me back & told me their cost is $250. I told them that they could tell that lie to someone else that doesn't know any better. I know that everyone else in the world is not charging under cost. They are just awful there.  PLEASE DO NOT EVER RECOMMEND THESE PEOPLE TO ANYONE. But, this is the kicker: The day I went up to the office to talk to Dr Colby about my bill they were having a low cost bunny spay/neuter clinic & a woman was crying out in the waiting room holding a basket. I was in the office w/ Dr Colby & the woman was very emotional outside the door. He went on and on, PISSED AT THIS WOMAN, telling me she brought her bunny in for a spay and it died. He had the AUDACITY to say that the woman shouldn't be complaining - it was, after all, a low-cost spay...and, if she really cared about the pet, why would she use the low cost clinic?  He literally said that. He told me he makes no money doing them & was very IRRITATED at the woman. I walked out of the room & went up to this woman, hugged her & cried w/her. I am OUTRAGED at this vet. I didn't react to him that day.  I knew I'd never step foot in that clinic again..EVER.  This vet's personal dog had an emergency C-section during his free clinic & I truly believe that he killed that woman's bunny out of pure neglect because he needed to stop and operate on his own dog. Apparently, it is a $6000 dog that he BOUGHT and mated with a stud dog. I can tell you right now, I feel sick over this...I am making an official complaint about this vet and clinic with the veterinarian board. Please spread the word...this man should not be in business...period! Read Less

MY RABBIT DIED IMMEDIATELY AFTER GETTING NEUTERED HERE, today. He didn't even make it home. He was a strong, healthy one-year-old Holland lop male. We called the vet to tell them and all they said was that he was healthy when he left their office!! What? It was obvious that their surgery killed my bunny! They must have done something wrong - either overdosed his anesthesia, caused internal bleeding, who knows. Didn't even want to reimburse us whatsoever, they were just happy they got their money. We wanted to get him neutered so that he could stay together with his girl companion...They'd already had two litters of babies. For a while we had to keep him in a separate pen adjacent to the girl.. they always stood next to each other separated by the fence...So sad that he passed while we were just trying to make him happy. They told me they would call my regular vet and call me if my dog needed any additional immunizations. They never called. When I went to pick my dog up they charged me for a $65 influenza shot. I didn't know that they were going to give my dog a shot at all, much less a $65 shot I would've come and picked him up. $95 for 8 hours AND an unauthorized procedure. Ridiculous. PS In case you didn't know, vaccines are not effective immediately. They take days to kick in. It (supposedly) prevents an animal from contracting a virus. The vaccine does NOTHING if the animal is already infected. In other words, if my dog had influenza, he would've spread it to the kennel. IF whoever developed this vaccine chose the right influenza strains, it will be days before my dog is immune. In the meantime he's probably going to be sick is crazy and I'm on my way with him to a wedding. Thanks Windward Animal Hospital and Dr. Colby for being huge jerks. Read Less

Our healthy 10-month old Bunny came in with a moist nose, and a tooth that needed clipping.    We left with a $560 bill.Nobody asked us if we wanted an X-Ray. It Most vets simply listen to a bunny's chest to check for proper lung function. When we were invited in by Dr. Colby to see the X-Rays, we naively assumed they were part of the Examination fee! Overkill and over-charged, over a wet nose.X-Rays: $260The rest of the bill was agreed-upon. They lure you in with the $110 neuter and the $50 office visit....then up-charge! That was sneaky, Dr. Colby!Update: I responded to Dr. Colby. Hi Dr. Colby! I am happy to send to your email address a copy of my bill [along with my full legal name] if you would like to check the details.  What is your email address?Everything else was great. It was simply odd that your aid didn't tell us or ask permission before you performed the X-Ray (~$250 with fees). We didn't know there was an X-Ray until you ushered us in to look at his X-Rays. Came here about twice now! This is the recommended vet by the Georgia rabbit house society! The vet is super nice! He knows what he's doing and he's very good with rabbits! You don't have to worry about him messing up a neuter/spay! He did not come out to greet me the second time around for the surgery, but I'm sure he was busy! He legit spent like tops 40 minutes with my rabbit's neuter and my bunny was already awake and alert by the time they brought him out! Of course the neuter is about $110 and the spay is $140 when you go during the designated discount times! And that is a steal! I've heard of people paying up to $400 for their rabbits spay and then having their rabbit not make it! Not with this guy! The vet tech who works there is also super knowledgeable about rabbits! She owns a few herself as well as squirrels! She is super compassionate towards the animals and she remains professional even with the most difficult clients! However I think you can describe her as stern. Most of the nurses don't seem friendly when you see them at face value! But I guess they aren't getting paid to look nice! The vet tech offers a grooming service for longer haired buns for around $75-$100 (I think it's just $100 flat to be honest) and it takes a few hours! My wallet cries but my bunny is much happier afterwards! This is the only place that grooms rabbits for sure...I've searched! No other options! They do not offer payment plans and I don't know how much more or less their service is compared to other places but when it comes to exotics they are on point! I had a friend come here for her rabbit too! She said she paid about $200 per session for her rabbits cancer treatments...I'll break down my pricing amount just so you can compare it to other locations before you come! It was about $45 for anesthesia$100 layering the skin off$100 to discard the part they lasered offAntibiotic $31$50 for the office visit$88 for Oral antibioticsOverall their neuter/spay service price is the real gem! Although I do try my hardest to never need vet care, so I hope I don't need to come back for a long time! Read Less

I have been going to Windward Animal Hospital for many years. I stopped going when our first beloved pet died and a few years later when we got a new dog i switched vets because the other vet was "cheaper". Unfortunately our new dog has many health issues. After 3 years of trying to bring some relief to my pets skin conditions. I decided to go back to Windward Animal Hospital just to see if they would have another suggestion on how to treat him. On my first visit the vet suggested he might have thyroid issues. something we had NEVER been told before. with in days we had our dog on thyroid medicine and with in days we saw great results. Yes, the initial bill was much more then at our other vet. But, I had to visit my other vet several times a year to try and help my dog. Now i visit the vet once a year and because he is on the right medicine i no longer consider my dog having 'health issues" in the long run.... My pet rabbit seemed to be in a bout of GI stasis (not eating, laying in his enclosure not wanting to be touched, not pooping) and because my boyfriend and I had experienced it with him before, we took the home care steps we were familiar with.  Since we were new to Georgia and didn't have a regular vet, when our rabbit didn't seem to improve the next day, we called the Georgia House Rabbit Society.  They offered any help they could give.  We ended up doing a "GI stasis protocol" - they helped us warm him on heating pads, gave subcutaneous (under the skin) fluids, medicine for gas by mouth, medicine for pain, all the while advised by Dr. Colby on the phone.  We were so happy to see our rabbit eating again and running around the house once we got home. Two days later our rabbit seemed to be stuck in stasis again.  We brought him to Windward as suggested by GHRS.  Heather, the vet tech, was very sweet and knowledgeable about rabbit care.  We got x-rays done (and got a copy on a CD) and he was given more medications and fluids, including antibiotics because he seemed to have developed an upper respiratory infection.  Dr. Colby was not there, but when the x-rays were sent, he said his stomach looked huge and suggested to start an IV on him to administer medications.  Heather informed us that the medications and IV insertion would run us about $700.  As poor medical students, we asked if we could do conservative care for one more day since we had seen him bounce back very quickly twice from stasis, and she said that would be fine. The next morning, our rabbit seemed to have difficulty breathing, and we immediately went to Windward when it opened.  There was a dog who had an appointment before us, but Heather brought our rabbit to the back immediately since he was more of a priority and in need of urgent attention and care.  X-rays were done again, and his temperature was very low, so we had to keep him wrapped in blankets on heating pads.  We met with Dr. Colby and he told us all his concerns and details of what he would do - the little guy had GI stasis with acute bloat (GI stasis is VERY common in rabbits and acute bloat is not very common but VERY life-threatening with a poor prognosis).  Our rabbit was put under anesthesia, and Dr. Colby decompressed his stomach to get rid of the air twice.  Dr. Colby also trimmed down his back molars and inserted an IV.  We stayed until the hospital closed and we were sent home with medications. We understood this would cost us quite a lot, and we asked if we could pay half or have some sort of payment plan.  Instead, he gave us a rather large discount, knowing we had already paid so much the previous day.  That helped ease our stress.  Heather responded to texts throughout the night when we had questions, too.Despite fluids and medications and warming at home, our rabbit did not make it through the night.  We appreciated that Dr. Colby helped us to give him every fighting chance he had.  We also had done our research the night before and understood the risks and prognosis of every procedure he was performing.  Dr. Colby did not give us any false hope nor did he give us a disheartening attitude.  He wanted us to stay strong and hopeful for our rabbit to give him the best chance.  We'll always be thankful to everyone at Windward for being there for us and supporting us through a difficult time.  We could not have had better care for our bun in his last days.Highlights:- Having approximately 40% of their clients bring in rabbits and being very knowledgeable about rabbits and their care- Being the doctor of choice for the GHRS and caring for all the rabbits at GHRS- Knowing when animals are a priority and need to be seen before others- Responding to texts after clinic hours- Having payment options- Trusting us as medical students to administer medications at home - Making sure we knew what procedures were going to happen, step-by-step, and giving us options- Having a rabbit at the entrance and bearded dragons in the waiting room and a free-roaming cat (I think all vets should have a plethora of their own animals hanging around) Read Less

Read Less

We called the vet to tell them and all they said was that he was healthy when he left their office!! What? It was obvious that their surgery killed my bunny! I am happy to send to your email address a copy of my bill [along with my full legal name] if you would like to check the details.  What is your email address?Everything else was great. Read Less

Both the staff and the doctor at this animal hospital are absolutely fabulous. They are very accommodating to their patients and spend all their time working to help both their clients and their patients. Furthermore, the staff are very easy to reach and have even worked overtime in order to help me and many other clients. Overall, this animal hospital is an amazing place that works their hardest to help others. I would never switch animal hospitals or bring my pets anywhere else. After coming to this veterinary hospital for over 15 years, I have gotten to know all of the employees who are extraordinary. They have all worked insanely hard in order to make me and my pets stay healthy and happy. Finally, this animal hospital also helps with some wildlife animals. They respond to emergencies quickly and effectively.

Windward animal hospital is cheaper and my dog is no longer suffering. you can't put a price on that. Read Less
