I decided to have my cat spayed when I started having problems with him marking his territory. In the past I have gone to the humane society, (they sterilize pets for $30 and that price includes a rabies shot) but this time I stumbled upon SpayGA. after looking over their website and realizing there were many vets more convienient to me that would do the job; I went with them. I waited several weeks for the certificate to arrive, and when it did I called your office to make an appointment. On the phone I was told that the certificate did not cover meds post surgery, and that those were around $50. I informed the person that the cat was not up to date on his shots, and made sure those could be done at the same time. I assumed (my fault) that the bill would not be skewed too much, as my cat needed the same shots that I get for free once a year at the pet store. I set the appointment and thought everything was good. When I dropped the cat off, on April 10th, I sat in a exam room with my cat and two kids for 30 min. A young man came in and asked me several questions about the cat, I told him it had never been to the vet before I signed some papers and I left when he said I was good. Approximately 10 minutes after pulling out of the parking lot my wife got a call from your office saying that I rushed out of the place, and didn't give the cats history. This is completely false. My wife was also given an estimated bill of $160. She was caught off guard, as was I, and she reached out to SpayGA to see if this was normal and they too were concerned over the price. I went to retrieve the cat the next day, and after being given a bill for $160 I asked for a printout and walked outside to call Jane @ SpayGA. Went through the bill with her, and agreed that I was being charged for several things that were supposed to be covered by the certificate. After some back and forth between your office manager and Jane my bill Was reduced to $89. Almost half of that total was charged for pain meds and a rabies shot. I had a vasectomy about a year ago and I didn't even get pain meds and an overnight hospital stay - why does my cat need that? At the end of day I spent a total of about 6 weeks for this process to be complete, between waiting on the certificate and then the appointment. (To be clear - 6 weeks is a whole lot of pee to clean up.) I spent $89 at your vet, and more for the certificate. I spent an hour in your office haggling over the price, and this entire time I had a 3 and 4 year old with me.I could have gone to any of a dozen different vets in the area, paid the same price, had it done in a week, and not had to deal with the hassle. The cat did not need to stay overnight, he did not need pain meds, and $20 for a rabies shot is lunacy. When I have used the humane society in the past, I drop the cat off and pick him up 6 hours later without pain meds or drama.
