Went to Dr. Holland for our baby, Frank, and ended up needing several procedures and treatments for his various ailments. He is 10 years old, so we anticipated this. Nothing she said was surprising to us. We were quoted a fair price for her services, and opted for surgery to remove some masses under Frank's arm and on his lower eyelid. Dr. Holland could have pushed us to have expensive pathology tests done on the masses, but honestly and clearly stated that at his age, it would not have improved the quality of his life, and could be tested at a later date if the masses returned. Our baby ended up having a prolonged reaction to anesthesia and they urged us to allow him to stay overnight at no additional cost, and even entertained my very worried husband's fears by letting me see the area in which he would be sleeping. Dr. Holland has always been firm and honest with me, and since I consider my pet to be a child under my care, and not a tractor that needs repair, I value her experience and expect full honesty, which I have always gotten. In addition, when she purchases, transports, stores, and administers ""chicken baby food"" at ""2x"" the store cost, I don't complain because she's incurring the cost of said purchase/transport/storage/administration for herself. Her staff is incredibly friendly and gentle, and I've never waited (in 4 visits) more than 10 minutes with Frank for services. She does not make me feel less than, as some reviewers have mentioned, because when she speaks to me as a professional, I as a layperson, listen and heed her advice. If Dr. Holland were a pediatrician, I highly doubt she would receive the negative feedback that some seem so eager to heap on her, most of which is comprised of nothing more than whining about the expense of caring for a family member and being overly sensitive to a doctor who cares enough to tell the truth. I'm sure she sees more than her fair share of animals whose caretakers could really care less. I personally could not handle it. Finally, I'd like to point out, that as a doctor, regardless of her obvious talents and commitment, she can only fight so hard. From what I understand she is devoted to providing compassionate and thorough care to all animals that come her way, including abandoned or neglected neighborhood animals. However, again, these are not appliances, these are animals...lives. If you've lost a pet while under any vet's care, I hope that you realize that life is very precious and very fragile, thus making Dr. Holland's sometimes harsh dedication to the health of the animals in her care ever so much more vital.
