Kindest people I have ever come across. I had an emergency with my dog and my regular vet couldn't take him in. Despite only meeting us for the first time that day, Dr Kurt sent me a text message several hours after they closed just to check on my buddy and see how he was doing. My family and I have been taking our fur children here for that last few years. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful . They have a genuine passion for animals. That you can clearly see as soon as you walk in . We always see Dr Kurt to put into words how awesome this guy is, would be very hard . Wonderful place to take your pet, for all their medical needs. I have senior short haired tabby cat, that became sick & dehydrated. I have been using this vet office since 1995 at the old building. I have put my trust in them to do what’s right for my many dogs over the years. They’re fairly fast and efficient, yet they spend the right amount of time with each animal. I’m always very pleased no matter which doctor I see. I will continue to use them as long as I am able. The doctors and staff at Oakwood Animal Hospital are easy to work with. They show true concern for your pet's health, but don't recommend the most expensive course of treatment. Expensive!! Dr. Sanders didn't even talk with us after our pets surgery. She had a tech take us aside out in the waiting room to go over discharge directions.... When I asked how many teeth had to be pulled she said she didn't know!!!! Seriously?!?! Infection is now present in my little guy & I'm just so very disappointed!! Moving on to a new vet in Commerce. I have been working with this practice for the last 7 months and could not be more pleased with all the staff. Everyone has been very accommodating (even after work hours) I was especially pleased when Dr Sanders joined the team. My pets are newer patients of Oakwood. I received a call stating that my pets were due for a vaccine that they had already received months prior. The vaccine was initiated on my behalf and then paid for and documented. There is no excuse for not having up to date records. I had to look up my credit card receipts and called to prove payment. If something were to have happened and the vet to not have records could have potentially gotten me in a lot of trouble. I won't be returning. Unacceptable. Read Less

Our cat likes to hiss and be snappy they spray calming spay, and do everything necessary to ensure she gets a thorough exam. When our 18 yr old cat was diagnosed as diabetic Dr Mary was very understanding that we wanted to try diet rather than insulin. Both Dr Mary and Dr Kurt are very knowledgeable and kind vets. We had an emergency situation one day that brought us to oakwood animal hospital with one of our dogs. Since that day we now drive 45 minutes whenever we need to go to a vet just to see doctor Mary. She is an incredible human being with a heart of gold. She performed a flawless pyometra surgery on our little girl and since then has continuously showed compassion and care for our animals, not just the day of surgery but above and beyond care. We took our elderly 15 year old furbaby dog here because she was having issues walking turns out that she had a really bad infection on her leg that was buried underneath her hair. Dr. Kurt understood that our goal was to help her but we're on a limited budget and really worked with us to find a solution that helped make her better. He even text me the very next day to see how she was doing and even requested a picture probably to make sure that we had changed the bandage and we had. My dog recovered nicely. Unfortunately yesterday we had to put this same furbaby dog to sleep because even though she recovered from that being elderly she had developed a cough and started to breathe heavily unfortunately she was developing congestive heart failure and started having seizures over the weekend and there was no way I could let her live like that. She was having a hard time getting around pretty much all of a sudden in one day just started falling over every time she walked having a seizure. Dr. Kurt was kind and comforted us during her passing and we had her put to sleep at the office. I just wish we had a little bit more time with her and I did feel a little bit rushed I think they should have been able to put us in a private room to spend time with her but they didn't we had to say our last goodbyes at her holding cage. I had suggested private cremation after telling them we wanted to end her suffering but was a little bit shocked that the office did not suggest it immediately as my fur baby was suffering. I also think that they should automatically do an imprint in clay of the animals footprint to give to the grieving furbaby parent. Luckily the cremation company that they use is going to do it for me for free which is north Georgia Pet Cremations. Dr. Mary and the staff at OAH took great care of my Pearl when she was sick. They gave me detailed instructions on how to care for her when I got home, did an excellent job of caring for her when she was there and gave me updates to ease my nerves. The staff at this facility really cares about the pet AND the owner and sincerely wants what's in the best interest of my little friend. They didn't overcharge or fluff my bill, were very knowledgeable about the services and were very accommodating. They send us a personalized mailer when it's time to go for a checkup, which I appreciate. I feel very confident in trusting them to care for her. Thanks for checking up on Pearl today, ladies! I was looking for a new Vet & saw all the great reviews so I thought I would give them a try. I called & they could see my kitty the very next day. The staff are all very friendly and we love Dr. Mary. They treated my kitty like a princess & she seemed very comfortable with them. She got an exam & her vaccinations. Later that day she started non stop vomiting which concerned me. I called them about 10 minutes before closing to see if this was normal from the shots. They told me no & that she was probably having a reaction to the leukemia shot. They told me to come on & they would wait for us to get there. Can you believe this? I just moved to the Gainesville area in November. I started going to Oakwood Animal Hospital almost immediately. I had 2 elderly dogs and 2 elderly cats. Doctor Mary is who I have been seeing. Unfortunately I have had to put down 1 of my dogs and 1 of my cats. Doctor Mary and her staff have gone above and beyond every time I have been there. I can't say enough about Doctor Mary. I have had pets all of my life and I have had Veterinarians in 3 states. Never have I been so kindly treated! Absolutely love Dr. Kurt. So personable and so knowledgeable. Not only does he exhibit great care for my fur babies, but seemed genuinely concerned about my emotional distress for them as well. The staff is wonderful. My reason for leaving Oakwood Animal long ago was because of a time factor. I would be there for 2+ hours just for routine checkups. It was very disorganized and much of the front desk staff were rude and impersonal. Seems everything has changed. :) Dr. Mary was always my choice and I love her dearly and would always approve of her caring for my babies. The reason I am with Dr. Kurt now is that when I returned with my sick cat, he was the one I saw. His bedside manner, knowledge and advice were superior to any I have experienced. Took my cat in to get her annual shots. She came out with fleas. I tried taking care of it on my own with some leftover Revolution, and confronted them a few weeks later once I killed the fleas. They denied it was their fault and said it was MY fault, and the fleas probably latched on my clothes. No, I've had my beautiful cat for three years and she is an indoor cat only and I have no other pets. She's never had a problem before. The morning after I took her to the vet I notice fleas. At least own up that you messed up and don't blame your paying customer. And then when I asked if they have flea combs they said I'd have to buy one at PetSmart.
