We used to take our now 9-year-old female tortie baby kitty to another RH vet, but when she ate several of my prescription pills I was tring to grab, after having dropped the bottle, the only vet we could reach was Cedar Hill. The person took a message & a vet called back 5 mins later! They send email reminders about yearly procedures & have booked Alex (the cat) for boarding every single time, even @ the last minute during Christmas week. The one negative is that I asked a vet I didn't know (filling in?) about a spot I could see in Alex's eye, & no matter how she manipulated the eye area, she said she couldn't see a spot. I made a follow-up call the next day & our regular vet kindly gave us the # of a cat eye-specialist in Pooler, where she was diagnosed with melonoma & had to have her eye removed. I did choose Cedar Hill for the surgery, though, mainly because there was a $500 difference in cost. The vet who failed to see the spot was not a regular at Cedar Hill, so I really don't lay the blame on them. Read Less

We recently moved to Richmond Hill and chose Cedar based on their Google reviews. We originally wanted him (Epic) to get up to date on his shots, but had to bring him in quickly for an unknown issue he was having. I called for an appointment, was set up for the next day, but received a call shortly after saying I could get Epic in that day if I wanted. I took them up on it as I was concerned about Epics behavior. Dr. Jen took great care of Epic, even after he attacked her (literally). I was mortified, but she handled it like a pro, put my mind at ease with her diagnosis (I expected the worst), she prescribed some meds, chose to wait to give him his shots and she was on point. He’s been fine since being there and I just called to make an appointment for his shots for next week. Looks like we found our vet👍 Read Less

One of my kitties recently became VERY sick. A friend of mine recommended Cedar as the best full-service animal hospital in our area. I took my kitty up there as soon as they opened the next morning. They were very understanding of the situation and welcomed us, even though we didn't have an appointment. My kitty was very sick and the initial thought was 2-3 days of IV meds/fluids would be enough. Unfortunately it wasn't. She had to undergo a series of tests and ended up having to stay an entire week. I've never had a pet become this sick and I was terrified! The staff was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. They kept me informed with daily updates (sometimes twice a day) and even allowed me to come in and visit. My kitty needed a lot - multiple series of bloodwork, IV meds/fluids, a barium x-ray series, meds for home, plus a 1-week stay. Of course I expected a pretty substantial bill, but the total was less than what I thought it would be. The price was absolutely reasonable considering everything that had to be done. Read Less

The first time we went to Cedar Valley was bcuz we were new to the area and our dog had an awful accident and Cedar Valley came highly recommended. Location is great, prices are amazing but customer service is horrendous. When entering the facility you are not greeted and once you sign in you are ignored until whatever task they are doing is completed. Today I went in for a follow up appointment and I signed in and there were TWO customer service reps at the desk. They did not acknowledge my presence and one of them left from behind the desk to go outside without asking if I needed help. The other rep was typing at the computer with her head down and I stood there for a good while before I asked her if I should come back later . Without looking up she told me she was busy but what did I need. I was the only one at the desk but I guess she was doing a new customer intake On a customer who was seated because she shouted "Are you military" across the room. When calling Cedar Animal Hospital they answer the phone and sound like they are unhappy with where they work. Here are some tips: 1. Greet customer when entering facility and after they sign in direct them to a have a seat , if busy , or ask HOW they can help you. Not ask, what does a customer need. 2. Answer the phone with the greeting of the day, state their name, and ask how can they assist. 3. Wear name tags so the customer knows your name and it builds familiarity among the customer and staff in such a small community. On a positive note there is a young tall gentlemen with glasses who takes the animals to the back for shots and he is always friendly. Maybe he could give lessons on proper customer service Read Less

Our Rottie started wimping and limping and we took her in to Cedar. We saw Heather who took excellent care of her. Heather called us many times to see how Susie was doing after we took her home. Unfortunately, Susie got worse. Heather tried different meds but realized that the meds only prolonged the agony that Susie was in. We had to make a decision as to whether to keep trying different meds or have her put down. Realizing how much pain she was in and seeing that she was in so much pain, we decided to have her put down. We brought her in and Heather explained everything about the procedure to us. She stayed with us through the whole time we were there. It was very upsetting to us and we cried when we realized she was gone. I cannot say enough about the care and compassion Heather gave to us. She told us after this was done that we did the right thing and that she would have done the same. She now takes care of our little schitzu and is so wonderful with her. I will never go anywhere else and I think that these people who have written bad reviews are crazy. I have never seen any of these vets being mean to any dog or cat. The reason I am giving this 2 stars is because I know there are multiple doctors within this practice, and I have not seen them all. However, I will tell my story of why I switched vets. I adopted a very sick little kitten. I brought him to Cedar to get his first round of shots, fecal test, feline leukemia test, and to get these multiple bald patches checked out. Fecal test came up negative. The bald patches were determined as ringworm, even without a simple wood's lamp test, or even caring to take a culture. If he was a human being coming into a doctor's office with a testable illness, there is no way a responsible doctor would just NOT test him and blindly send him on his way. The vet told me to just rub this cream on him and just don't sleep with the kitten and everything will be fine. If you know ANYTHING about ringworm (and by now I'm a freakin expert on it) IT IS NOT JUST A SIMPLE 'rub some cream on it and don't sleep with him'. Unsatisfied with that answer, I did some research on this nightmare of a fungus. I called back to ask if they would start my kitten on a Lyme sulfur dip regimen, which has been proven nearly most effective at curing ringworm. The vet told me to bathe my solid white kitten in BETADINE instead! Fed up, I scheduled an appointment with another practice. At this next practice, they redid his fecal exam, which supposedly should have been negative, but instead came up positive for TWO intestinal parasites that this vet let me see for myself under the microscope, plain as day, ONE DAY LATER. He also stressed to me what a HUGE deal ringworm is and how involved it is to properly treat and care for. He also showed me the glowing ringworm lesions on my kitten under the wood's lamp. He said that my kitten was completely covered in ringworm and that the topical cream would never heal him. We started him on the Lyme sulfur regimen, but not in time apparently, because I personally had FOURTEEN ringworm lesions, my dog had 4, and now my other cat is developing a spot on her ear. This has been a complete nightmare that could have been avoided with proper education, testing, and care that should have been delivered by Cedar. They have ruined my little family for the next 2 to 6 months or more with their crappy education and failure to stress the nature of this infection! Read Less

Upon our arrival to the Savannah area our 15 year old girl, Frankie, became ill and lethargic. We took her in and the vet gave a exam based diagnosis of lymphoma. Told us to keep her comfortable and prescribed some meds to ease the symptoms. Over the weekend she became much worse and we took her back in. This is where the vet gave us the worse news a dog owner could hear. The condition had deteriorated. We made the decision to put her down and the vet was incredibly comforting as we stayed with Frankie while the injection was administered. The whole event would have been damn near impossible to deal with but the staff put us at ease and helped us muscle through. We had our girl cremated and not a week after we received a sympathy card along with a paw print from Frankie. An incredible gesture. We were traveling for work when my 6 month old yorkie puppy became very ill. I completely panicked because we didn't know anyone in the area, much less a veterinarian. After reading the reviews and checking out their helpful, user-friendly website, I decided to take a chance on bringing my puppy in to them. I called en route and was happily accommodated with an appointment and was comforted by the receptionist over the phone and upon check-in. The office is very clean and has nice exam rooms. The technicians were all super nice and very well educated. The vet, Dr. Jennifer, was AWESOME!! Not once did she or any staff member dismiss my concerns for my puppy. The doctor and technician directly addressed each question (there were many!) with confidence which successfully wrangled in all of my anxiety over what was causing my puppy to be ill. Dr. Jennifer spoke to me first before she administered treatment, making sure I understood her diagnosis and treatment plan. WOW!!!! I was very pleased with the pricing as well. I didn't have to take out a second mortgage to pay the bill lol! If we lived here, this would be my veterinarian without a doubt. I would recommend this animal clinic to anyone who values their pets healthcare and wellness at a very reasonable cost. Read Less

I have read all the current reviews and am floored. First, yes, this is a very busy clinic. But the staff knows their business. Are they always warm and fuzzy, no. They are very efficient and effective. I show dogs and am extremely particular about my vets. I needed a new one in Savannah and this place was recommended to me. I took one of my girls in for a pre-whelp check up to decide if this was the place for us. Dr. Christiansen is simply amazing. He knows his stuff. He is forthright, honest and to the point which I appreciate. My girl ran into problems during delivery and we made an emergency trip to the clinic at 11 pm, meeting Dr. Christiansen. We (and I mean WE) did an emergency section delivering six puppies. This is not my first section, and it was one of the best I have witnessed. About the "atmosphere." Dr. Christiansen and his staff have to deal with lots of people with lots of animals that have problems. The reception area is at times chaotic, but that is mostly because it seems owners forget that these are animals that need to behave. They do great work at this clinic and I would recommend them to anyone. About the person who complained about the costs, welcome to the real world. Animal care is not free. There are lots of low cost spay/neuter clinics around as well as vaccine clinics. If you want that, go find them. If you want doctors who know how to treat animal illnesses and condition, you have to be ready to pay for them. Believe me, Cedar Animal Hospital is MORE than reasonable cost-wise in my book! I have paid much more to my vets in Atlanta and up north for the same procedures. I could pay more in Savannah and maybe get a prettier office and falsely charming staff. I would rather pay realistic costs for staff I would, and literally do, trust with the lives of my dogs.I cannot speak to the boarding, but to be frank, I would never board any animal at a vet office. It is a side line, not a primary business. There are lots of great boarding facilities in the area that do play time and all that. If you board with a vet, in my experience, it is usually because your pet needs special care or observation.Hands down Dr. Christiansen is in my view the BEST vet in the Savannah/Richmond Hill area. This is one veterinary office to steer clear of. Several months ago, we went to pick up my dog from boarding there, and she was whimpering excessively when she was brought out. Although I have never seen her whimper like this before, we made an apparent mistake and gave the staff the benefit of the doubt by bringing her back for boarding this past weekend. When she came out, she was not her usual hyperactive self, and over the next several hours, her condition worsened. She began acting disoriented and lethargic, and she also developed a significant limp. Her right eye was also bloodshot and unfocused. When I called to ask if they had given her any medications or sedatives, the vet with whom I spoke told me that sometimes animals just behave that way after being in a cage for a long period of time. An investigation needs to be done of this facility, and until then, I adamantly discourage anyone from bringing his or her pet there. To make matters worse, when I called earlier that day to address a dispute that had happened in the lobby, the staff member I spoke with condescendingly asked me just who I would tell about the situation since she wouldn't listen to me, spoke to me as though I was a child (I am 23 years old), and hung the phone up on me. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, and as far as I know, Cedar completely ignored the complaint, as I never heard back on it. A paying customer files a complaint with the BBB, and you don't so much as acknowledge it? That sure makes it sound as though the Cedar staff give a darn about the service they provide their customers. Richmond Hill has several other veterinary facilities with much more professional and ethical individuals on staff. Cedar Animal Hospital may offer cheaper rates than other facilities, but that is about the only positive they have to offer. Read Less

My cat went to the emergency room for a hypoglycemic attack. When we took him there, he was very weak and could not sit up, but he'd only been that way for less than 30 minutes when we found him, so the emergency vet was able to stabilize him with fluids and sugar. In the morning he went home with us and was 95% recovered (still a little tired but walking around and alert) and we were so happy! But they suggested that we take him to our vet for a follow up just in case. We took him to Cedar and they were very busy and took him in without us getting to talk to the vet, but we told the secretary what had happened, and sent all of his records from the emergency vet. They wanted to keep him in the hospital over night. This sounded great to me because I thought it would be best for him to be monitored throughout the night as he was at risk for these attacks. Little did I know that they don't actually monitor the hospital. They check on them at night, then don't return until 7AM. During the night he had another attack, and because no one was there, he suffered that way for many hours, and they said they had to resuscitate him because his heart had stopped. They said it was another attack because they weren't giving him enough sugar so they increased his sugar. They told me the vet would take him home on the second night to watch him, but he was already too weak by then and died. If that had of been done the first night, he wouldn't have died because it would have been noticed immediately that he needed more sugar. For that matter, I could have just kept him home and watched him myself. I asked them why they didn't take him home the first night, and they said because he was doing so well, they wouldnt normally do that. I told them that I had emphasized to the secretary what had happened, that it was a sudden attack, and thats why we were bringing him to stay the night in the hospital, so that he could be monitored. She should have told us then that the hospital is not actually monitored. Maybe this is standard practice, but she could have clarified that to us and we would have made a better decision. Instead I have over $400 bill (plus $600 more from the emergency vet) and no little kitty, who suffered very much, when he could have made a full recovery. Read Less

I am regretfully writing this review because our cat has passed due to complications from his "routine" dental cleaning and extractions performed at Cedar Animal Hospital. When we brought our cat in for his dental cleaning we were told that he "did great" and had to have a few teeth pulled. We were given no post-operative instructions and left to figure out his aftercare on our own. Two weeks later after little to no healing, fresh blood still coming from the extraction sites, facial disfiguration, and general lethargy, we were given a new antibiotic to try. Apparently, this was the norm for a routine dental. After another week of no improvement, he had to be hospitalized, given IV antibiotics, and anesthetized for a 2nd time to "see what was going on and why he wasn't healing the way he should". After hearing nothing from them on the day we were suppose to pick him up, we finally called at 11:45 and were told he was fine to go home...if we could get there in 15 minutes. It was Saturday and everyone had better things to do. Thankfully, we live nearby. We were told that during this procedure, a "routine" piece of bone was removed from the extraction site. He was brought to us covered in dried feces all down his left side and dried blood around his mouth and chest. Through the weekend we were still having no improvement, so I started to do some research on my own and found the following:"Failure to treat fractured teeth with pulpal exposure may result inperiapical abscessation, mucosal or cutaneous fistulation, chronic rhinitis, osteomyelitis, and ocular discharge."In other words, tooth roots were broken (and possible facial bones) during the extractions and left to become infected and cause an abscess in his brain. At this point we decided to get a second opinion and found a fantastic veteranarian but it was too late. On Friday night, he was stricken with sudden-onset blindness. On Saturday, he started showing additional neurological symptoms and had to be euthanized. To this day, we have heard nothing from Cedar Animal Hospital, neither checking on his progress nor sending condolences.I know that nothing can be done for him now. I am writing this in hopes that someone doesn't make the same mistake we did. Our cat suffered because of these "so-called" veterinarians. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!!!!! Read Less

Read Less

Cedar Animal Hospital has three outstanding doctors who are on call around the clock to offer the best care for our pets. When we did have a weekend emergency, the doc on call quickly called me backed and walked me through the steps to ensure my pets comfort until she could be seen 1st thing the next morning. When I went to pick her up, I was so shocked at how reasonable the bill was! The staff is always friendly and willing to help however they can. I could not be more pleased with the services found at Cedar!!! Read Less

Vet clinic is good only if issues occur 9-5. Very unwilling to provide critical pet health assistance after hours; even for customer in good standing with many pets($$$). We've had difficulties with staff doing a thorough records review prior and during our visit. Several times we have discovered vaccinations due after the visitation was complete, or prescription dosages not properly descriptive. We have been charged for incomplete services. This vet clinic was dissapointing when it counted most. Read Less
