We were quite surprised at Mr. Sutton's review. Yes, we have treated the Sutton's pets for many years and because of that relationship we bent over backwards and then some when they came in and Paddy was so ill. That morning we did the exam, x-rays, oxygen therapy, lasix injection and prescribed 2 medications. These charges came to $189.00. and when the owners returned in the afternoon after deciding on humane euthanasia, the hospital wrote off that ENTIRE amount. We charged only for the euthanasia and even discounted the private cremation. The owner's had originally elected to take Paddy home for burial, but later decided on private cremation which is quite expensive in comparison. On March 9 I spoke with Mr. Sutton about the $7.00 monthly service charge-not an interest rate. Our original client info sheet has a statement that explains the $7 charge if there is a balance over 30 days. This is to keep us from becoming a free bank. Most clients are able to pay more than $10 a month making the charges seem more reasonable. Without it what incentive would one have to pay it off? We encounter hardship cases on a daily basis and understand the owner's predicament, but we must also keep staff on hand and pay our overhead to keep the doors open. Addressing the aspirin issue: On Sept 9, 2010, the owner requested a refill of the pain medication used for Paddy's arthritis. They spoke with the veterinarian who recommended blood work to check kidney and liver values before refilling. The owner was worried about money so they were advised to try 80mg aspirin every 48-72 hours until they had money for the lab and medication. This is the approved dose of aspirin for cats from the North American Companion Animal Formulary, a pharmacy guide. Aspirin can be toxic in certain situations and doses and this was discussed with the owner. This was not the cause of the congestive heart failure. If it was Mr. Sutton's intention to upset the staff at SweetApple, he succeeded. We work here because of our love of animals and strive to practice the best medicine for these pets. This is also a business and Mr. Sutton evidently does not appreciate the $189 we lost caring for his pet. Read Less

Response As the manager in the 8/09 review, I feel there needs to be some clarification. When I asked what was wrong with the groom, it was to be able to understand how the problem could be fixed. For example, if the coat was left too long, it could be shortened, but if too short, there is not much room to work with. I asked her to bring the pet back in, but she said she was trimming the ears herself. I remember our conversation very well. I was not here and did not see Bentley after the groom, but told Ms Couch that the staff said another client in the reception area remarked that she thought the dog was cute. I was not trying to defend the groom since I had not seen it myself. Ms Couch went on to say our location was too far for her to travel and she would be going elsewhere for everything. I even have that noted in the chart. It was at the end of our conversation that I offered to forward her medical recomds to another veterinarian since she had said she would need to find someone closer and grooming facilities require vaccine history. It was not meant to drive her away or upset her. There was road construction that day and she decided to take a detour home to avoid the delay. The groomer was an experienced groomer, but we did not hire her based on this experience. (In order to post a response, I had to provide a rating) Read Less

First of all, I took my dog to get groomed and it was horrible. I was NEVER told that the person grooming my dog was doing it as part of her interview process. The girl didn't do what I wanted. I told her what I wanted VERBALLY and then I wrote the directions down. Not only that, I included a photo. Luckily I was able to fix it when we got home and we got our money back. If that wasn't bad enough, the MANAGER called me about 10 minutes after I returned home. She basically argued with me. She thought my dog looked cute and none of the other owners were upset. Um....I'm not worried about their dogs. My dog was screwed up!!! She asked what exactly was the problem. I was like....well the vet had to finish clipping his nails because the groomer didn't finish. The groomer gapped up the hair on the top of my dog's head. She cut the length of his tail when I told and WROTE down for her not to. Oh...and she didn't cut his ears. His ears were hanging when they should've been trimmed so they would wrap around his face. I was actually cutting my dog's ears when the manager called. Oh and to end the conversation...the manager said-----her words ""Let us know if we need to send your records anywhere."" I guess that was her invitation for us to leave their business COMPLETELY. I had a problem with the grooming and we could go find a groomer somewhere else, but now I wouldn't dare go back to that vet. I have never been spoken to so rudely!!! My dog was the victim in all of this....and the MANAGER was acting like she was the victim. She was punishing me because I made a complaint about the grooming and I guess because I spoke up and complained about something, she doesn't want my business at all. I hope and pray that they don't hire that groomer. If they do, they're going to lose a lot of business. My recommendation would be to skip this vet if your looking for one. The sad thing is the veterinarians are GREAT, but the office staff and the way the clients are treated is pathetic. It would've been better if the manager had never even called me because all she did was criticize me for complaining. Stay away from Sweetapple!!! Read Less

Read Less
