During your first visit you will be introduced to what we do, how and why we do it and what you need to do to have the potential of restoring your pet’s health and keeping her/him healthy. In 1999, MainStreet Veterinarians of Stone Mountain expanded from offering mainly conventional veterinary medicine and surgery to also offering a wide array of alternative and holistic treatments to the veterinary community as well. We offer alternative avenues that will benefit your pet in the quest for a higher quality of life. We have seen many animal cases of non-optimum health that weren’t resolving with conventional methods of diagnosis and treatment now being brought back to a state of optimum health by utilizing alternative/holistic techniques of analysis and treatment. Nonetheless, if traditional medicine is what fits your needs, Dr. Moorehead has been practicing it since 1988. During your first visit you will get through the forms and educational steps one item at a time, verifying and ensuring that every step is completed. The forms you will be required to fill out are: New client information form New pet information form Release form (according to the visit it could be the surgery, boarding, treatment, etc.) All of the above is found in the forms tab of our website. Next, you will receive a welcome folder that illustrates our services and additional information on our clinic. Then you are on to see Dr. Moorehead. We are looking forward to seeing you soon!

First of All I would like to say I took my cat Princess to get cut and washed dropped her off at 8:00 these incapable groomers could not handle her without sedating her I told them u get paid to know how to handle them I have took my cat to pet smart where u can stand right there and watch them groom your animal these people call me something after 11:00 talking about they can’t cut her because she is not cooperating they told me the total it would be if they sedated her and I said I wasn’t paying that so I told them to just stop any further action she tells me that they cut the top of her fur and didn’t even wash her yet I had someone else pick her up and not only did they send my cat home looking like a Chia pet they threw her in her carrier with the fur they cut off her which she could of easily choked on .... And people are trusting their animals with people who do something like that than to top it off they send me a letter saying I can’t bring my animals back there LOL!! Not mad at u at All cause I wasn’t coming back I really have a main vet I like anyway I used u because we could come in and honestly u are right around the corner from me but no sleep lost but I do feel the same energy u took to type and send that letter u cud of washed and shaved my cat Read Less

The first person that answered the phone was really nice and told me someone would call back to schedule my appointment. I explained I was a Naturopath and just need a short appointment to do blood testing and test for homeopathics. She told me it probably wouldn't take an hour. The person who called back to schedule the appointment was rude. She told me I had to come in an hour early to fill out paperwork and the appointment would be 2 hours. I asked if I could fill out the paperwork before hand and she refused and insisted I come an hour early and the appointment would be 2 hours. I don't know who would want to go sit for an hour holding there dog and fill out a booklet of paperwork simultaneously. Read Less

I recently adopted a dog from the Dekalb Animal Shelter and received a list of vets that provide a free initial health screening for newly adopted shelter animals. I called to schedule an appointment here and the receptionist was extremely rude. She asked me to provide a list of the vaccines my dog had received, which I provided. She proceeded to give a long sales pitch about all the other shots my dog should have, and started quotes pricing for deworming treatments. I explained that my dog has already been thoroughly dewormed and did not require testing. I stated that I just wanted to make an appointment to establish care and get an anti-flea protection meditation. Her response was that "they wouldn't accept my dog as a patient if I refused to comply with their recommendations." Wow, really? I will be taking my dog elsewhere. Read Less

I cannot express how grateful I am that I found Dr. Moorehead and his staff. My cat Butters was diagnosed with a failing liver by 2 different veterinarians. In essence they both told me that the best option I had was to take Butters to a specialist or Athens Vet school and have a feeding tube inserted and force feed my cat without a guarantee for his survival. A friend said it was too bad there were no holistic vets to consult to get another opinion as opposed to only a co...nventional .practitioner. I recalled that I had heard of a vet who was both holistic and conventional in Stone Mountain, Dr. Moorehead. I scheduled an appointment admittedly kind of skeptical but as a Massage Therapist I am open to alternative practices and hoped for a miracle. Well I got my miracle after consulting Dr. Moorehead and having him do Nutrional Response Testing.and prescribe what supplements Butters required to get back to health.. Two days after visiting the good doctor Butters began to noticeably recover and regained his appetite. Now I have a great Christmas to look forward to with a healthy bouncing 5 year old cat that I thought would have passed on by now as per the other vets. Butters has returned to a playful cat almost kitten like, better than even before. I cannot say Thank You enough. Thank you Dr. Moorehead and your wonderful staff for giving me my Butters back. There are many reviews I could write about Dr. Moorehead and his care for myself and my family. The one that has stuck out the most is when I was pregnant with my middle child the OBGYN "diagnosed" me with bacterial vaginosis (with no testing mind you) and sent me home with antibiotic. After taking just 1 antibiotic my body had an allergic reaction. I started itching all over to the point of having to lay down on the floor and using the carpet to scratch my back. It was h...orrible. I contacted Dr. Moorehead and he advised me to come in. After taking nutrition he asked me to stay and be checked again in one hour. I got checked again and took more nutrition and was sent home. By that evening the itching stopped. When I went back to the OBGYN 2 weeks later she said "oh great you are cleared up the antibiotics worked" to which I happily explained that in no way were the antibiotics helpful. I had been on nutrition, reduced sugar (per Dr. Moorehead) and that is what caused me to heal. Thank you Dr. Moorehead for your service to me and the kids. I am grateful and will continue to use you as our alternative care solution. See More Read Less

So I just arrived here for my dog's appointment to get her vaccinated. I explained to the nice woman Carmen on the phone that my dog had all of her vaccines which were up in July, however I had moved and wanted to find a closers vet. Also my dog was out of heartworm pills and would need an exam. Carmen told me all this was fine and I scheduled my appointment. So I get here and this rude curly haired girl named Bertina, is at the desk and gives me a pretty pay invoice for $115.00. This included an exam, heartworm, and fecal occult testing. But here is the thing: all these are included with the vaccine package which only costs $103.00. So this girl is charging me a la carte for these items. When I asked for an explanation as she was just going to have me sign and tell me nothing, she gets an attitude. She tells me my dog is up on her vaccines so why would we give them to her again? Therefore she is only giving my dog what she doesn't have. Now it is April 20. I do not believe my dog getting her vaccines 2 months and 15 days early is gonna do her any harm. However, what truly upsets me is that you did not have the decency to discuss any of this with me as the pet owner and then you try to blame it on me stating you did not have the pet records when the appointment was made. I'll call again when Carmen is here and try to speak with someone sensible. Hopefully then I can update this review. However I will have no more dealings with this Bertina girl. She needs to learn some manners and respect for.peoples time and money. Read Less

Dr. Morehead and the staff at Mainstreet Vets are friendly and amazing people. I was referred to Dr. Morehead from my regular vet for Nutrition Response Testing for my 2.5 year old Wirehaired Vizsla, Greta. She was lethargic, had horrible hot spots, weeping and crusty skin lesions, and loss of hair over her entire body. Despite what we had done with diet and supplements previously, she only seemed to be getting worse. In her first assessment we discovered Greta was allergic to chlorine and also her filtering organs needed some help to help heal herself from the inside out. Her energy level bounced back within THREE DAYS of starting her on the supplements and giving her Kroger Spring water to drink (we have since installed a water filter tap that dispenses chemical free water that the entire household enjoys). Upon subsequent tests we found her body doesn't handle oats well. Once we figured that out her skin completely cleared up and her hair grew back - all told about 10 weeks from our first visit! The transformation was truly miraculous! I now take all three of my dogs to Dr. Morehead to maintain their "optimum" health. I recommend them every chance I get. Read Less

I can't say enough about Dr. Morehead and his amazing team of professionals. I feared for the worst when my 17-year-old Yorky stopped walking and eating. His feet were knuckling over and he was practically lame in his back legs. After spending over $300 at another vet to run tests and x-rays to find out what was wrong, then being told it might just be time to put my Rocky down, I made an appointment the very next day with Dr. Morehead. We started the NRT program and Rocky got a chiropractic adjustment for the first time in several years. By the time we got home, 30 minutes later, Rocky got out of the car and started walking all around our yard again! Two months later, Rocky is doing amazing and seems to be his old self again. Also, because of his age many groomers will not groom him. The groomers at Main Street groomed Rocky today and he looks amazing. She even spoke with me during the grooming to let me know how he was doing. "He's sitting right here in my lap" she said, which made me feel so relieved of the amazing love and attention given to my fur baby!I drive all the way from Roswell, because they are the best! I have had nothing but 5 star service from Dr. Moorehead and his wonderful staff at MSV. It started when I first called to get a second opinion on my pup Timmy and Bertina spent a good 15 minutes on the phone with me to talk about what was going on with him. He had recently been diagnosed with a brain tumor by my previous vet. I found it hard to believe because previous to his yearly shots and monthly trifexis(given the week before) he was perfectly healthy. He was having neurological symptoms and loss of vision as well as spinning and loss of motion on one side which came on suddenly after he was given his shots and 12 hours after receiving his trifexis. I couldn't believe it was a tumor but I was told with no mistake by my previous vet that it was a tumor and he would only live a few months if I was lucky. Desperate for a second opinion I researched alternative vet medicine and found Dr. Moorehead. Timmy has been with MSV since July receiving homeopathic treatments and is 100% improved! Vision fully returned, range of motion fully returned and no more spinning. What's even better is that he has even MORE energy then before. He is thriving under Dr. Moorehead and his awesome staff's care. I couldn't recommend MSV enough!Read Less

I have a wonderful 7 year old Maltese named Timmy. He was poorly diagnosed by a new(new for us)vet. He was having neurological symptoms, likely as a reaction to trifexis and his annual shots and we were told he had a brain tumor and was going to pass away soon. He had sudden onset of vision loss in one eye, spinning in circles and couldn't turn his head. He was given two weeks of prednisone and sent on his way. No follow up instructions or follow up phone calls to check on him. I was heartbroken at the thought that I would be losing him soon. I brought him to Dr. Moorehead for a second opinion and alternative treatment. That was almost three months ago. Not only has Timmy regained his sight and range of motion under the treatment of Dr. Moorehead and his staff but he is healthier and has more energy then ever. He is not going anywhere any time soon. I took Diesel to his regular vet about two years ago for x-rays on his hips. The Vet advised that he had a slight case of hip dysplasia and arthritis, but that it wasn't bad enough to do surgery. He also seemed to be taking a while to heal from scarring which would last for over a month. They prescribed a med that was bad for his liver along w/ glucosamine. I gave him the glucosamine and researched for many different remedies to heal my D's hip issues. When his energy was still so low at only 5 years, I made my appointment at Mainstreet Vet. Diesel was diagnosed during his first visit. To my amazement, there were many other things wrong with him than i had anticipated, one being his liver. I pointed out the scars that hadn't healed and he said as soon as we fixed his liver his scars would go away as well. After about 2 months on the program we are now in the maintenance phase and Diesel has so much more energy than he had before and his scars have completely healed. I have found out about food allergens which I didn't know he had before. Dr. Moorehead and the staff were exceptional and knew exactly how to treat D each time he came in. I am a firm believer in Nutrition Response Therapy and Mainstreet Vets. FYI- They are located a 40 minute drive away from me and I am thinking they will replace D's regular Vet. Read Less

During a routine cleaning my cat became extremely agitated. She had been cleaned several times before at MSV with no incident; however, this time, there was. According to the staff, her behavior was unprovoked; I find this hard to believe. More disturbing than Dusks distress was the conduct of the veterinarian. Dusk became vocal, and her vocalizing and hissing were audible in the waiting area, at which point one of the receptionists seemed to go into the back to check, the receptionist returned and informed me that "it was not Dusk making the noise it was another cat." This was a lie. Dusk had become so agitated and defensive that she urinated and defecated on herself. The problem was compounded when the veterinarian proposed solutions that ranged from gross to dangerous. The vet initially suggested that I take my cat (who I brought in for a cleaning and was currently covered in excrement) home and return with her on Monday. I expressed my unwillingness to do so and explained that I would not be willing to have my cat spread excrement around my house. The vets response was to suggest that I take my cat and leave her in the garage. This last suggestion was the most disturbing part of my experience. The vet suggested that I leave my cat in an environment that can endanger her welfare. Leave me the cat in the garage for two days, in the middle of the summer? Left with few options, I left Dusk at MSV for two days. Unfortunately, this means the cat sat in her excrement for two days, spent Sunday unattended in an unfamiliar environment, and possibly require sedation. Monday morning I agreed to sedation so she can be cleaned. Upon bringing her home, she began to shake and twitch uncontrollably. She could not stand or walk. She is frightened of all blankets and panics when I reach for her. I have NEVER seen her in such distress. She keeps struggling to get to her food and water bowl as if she had not been fed or had water in the two days she was in Main street's care. I have taken video of her condition; it is disheartening. I am disgusted at the care my cat received at MSV and concerned about her current condition.Read Less

Dr. Moorehead is a gifted practicioner. He's not my main vet (see below), but my 12 yo dog has been seeing him once or twice a year for a Nutrition tune-up and also to resolve any major issues like Vomiting, Weakness and Lethargy and Skin conditions that crop up. He employs a technique called Nutrition Response Testing or NRT which I consider to be the medicine of the future. The supplements are fairly expensive but they have totally resolved any issue I brought to him -something all other vets COULD NOT do. I first found him several years ago after my dog was diagnosed with Discoid Lupus and I was told she would have to be on a heavy-duty immune-suppressing drug with horrible side effects for the rest of her life. I declined saying, "I wouldn't take that drug myself and I'm not giving it to my dog." and walked out. I don't know how his name came up in my searches but I was looking for natural methods as I am into them for myself and as a Registered Dietitian I am a big believer that lack of nutrition accounts for 75% of all disease. Once I saw on his website that he does NRT on pets (I had used NRT on myself with great results and had seen great results in my Nutrition Practice just using the whole food supplements by Standard Process that this Vet uses) I made an appt immediately.Well, within 3 weeks on the program her crusty, flaking, nearly pink nose was dramatically better and by 3 months she had regained the hairloss rings around her eyes and the pink & flat-black nose color was back to the rich black cobblestone it's supposed to be!I have pictures for anyone that needs proof. I actually sent them to that Vet Specialist who prescribed the drug but never heard back. The reason he isn't my main vet is because I have a natural vet (Loving Touch) that I am happy with that doesn't promote over-vaccination & the standard flea-tick-worm poisons which I am against -especially for a pet that had an immune disorder- and they also do homeopathy and other alternative therapys that I like. From what I can see Main Street Vet is standard protocol in those areas, but Dr. Moorehead is a genius with the NRT. So I'm giving them 5 stars for that because NO ONE else does NRT for pets. I highly suggest PEOPLE do NRT as well - it IS, as I say, the medicine of the future and worth the few hundred dollars to resolve or improve important health issues. BTW if you DO go and do the program, keep your supplements in the fridge as it will protect their potency - so you and your pet can use them the next year or two - even if they are expired they are still probably 75% effective. ( They are required to have an expiration date to insure full potency and also in case they're dug up 10 years from now etc.) This will save you $$$ because typically you may need the same nutrition boost again. Keep a list of what and how much of each you have on hand b4 you do the next visit so you'll know if you need to buy more.Oh and Dr. Moorehead has a WONDERFUL bedside manner as a doctor and all of his staff are friendly and nice, too!UPDATE: I just noticed that Main Street Vets has a good website and some other great customer reviews. Our dog Abra, a Labrador Retriever, has been going to Main St Veterinarians since she was 2 years old. She is now 13. Dr. Moorhead has always taken wonderful care of her. When she was about 6 years old she was sick so we took her in. We found out through NRT that she had multiple allergies and were advised to cut certain foods out of her diet. It worked immediately. Since then we have been amazed at how quickly (and inexpensively) she can be diagnosed without invasive treatments and bloodwork.
Last summer my family and I went on vacation to Costa Rica. We left Abra in the capable hands of my my brother and sister in law. While we were away Abra got very sick and most of her internal organs started to shut down. They took her to Dr Moorhead with little hope that she would make it. But just a couple of days after seeing him she started to feel better and less than a week later she was running around as usual. Noone could believe it.
I am forever indebted to Main St Veterinarians, Dr. Moorhead and NRT for saving her life. I truly believe that she would not be with us today if he was not our vet.

I am disgusted at the care my cat received at MSV and concerned about her current condition. Read Less

So far so good. They made sure my baby was all caught up with his vaccines, and suggested some great foods for his diet. Thank you!

They have saved my dog twice. We started going in August 2015 because my lab was diagnosed with cancer. She had a tumor removed but due to cancer cells being on the edges of the wide margins that were taken, it was recommended that she have another surgery and radiation. That's when we discovered Mainstreet Vets. We followed the protocol and she is doing really well. Well, until she decided to eat part of her bed. It was scary for a bit. We were really scared that we could lose her. But, they came to the rescue again and she is once again doing well.
