I had genuinely enjoyed my time with Sugar Hill Animal Hospital but was disappointed in a single service and became disgusted when I validated how they overcharged me at almost every single visit. Do a little bit of good in the world and don't bring your animals here. Hamryka is a crook, and a deeply disgusting individual. Doesn't give a flying shit about your animals, or you, or anything but lining his pockets. Take it from someone who worked there for nigh on three years, you don't want to know what goes on behind the scenes. (Overmedicating someone pet because you didn't bother to read the chart, then saying the poor babe died of heart failure? Or verbally assaulting your employees when they don't immediately barge into the exam room to demand payment from a pet parent who's animal is being put down? It's a bad look Doc.)  There's a reason you don't see the same faces in those scrubs for very long. Trust me, if you love your pets, don't fund this hellscape. Read Less

Sugar Hill Animal Hospital has been taking care of my cats since I moved to Sugar Hill 3 years ago.  I couldn't ask for a better veterinary hospital.  Dr. Johansen and Dr. Bentley are the main vets I've seen and Dr. J has helped me SO much in the last 14 months that I can't even put it into proper words.  One of my cats was acting really oddly today and they fit me in, Dr. J found the problem and immediately did a small, very needed, surgical procedure.  The vet techs, like Ashley, show so much compassion and care.   All the ppl recognize me when I come in and are so friendly and that kind of rapport is priceless.  I highly recommend this practice for any animal that needs a vet.   I'll be going to SHAH as long as I live.  When one of my cats passed away from cancer, they sent me a beautiful card signed by all and with a long note from Dr. J.  I trust them implicitly. Our Family trust him and his advice 100%. I Love How Dr Hamryka, gets to know our dogs before they do shots, all Procedures, instead of Just jumping in. He calms them down 1st. That shows alot in my eyes...He is Always Up to Date on Different topics and treatments, medications, illness, etc. I would rather give Sugar Hill 10 stars. They are Family to Our Family! This place will uplift you every single chance they get. I have nothing against running a business and making profit. However, when you're dealing with animals you're held to a higher standard. For example, if you board your dogs they'll charge you a fee. If you want your dogs to spend more time outside it costs extra. WTF? So the alternative is the dog sitting in a cage the majority of the day?The people are nice. But their management is clearly having their employees sell via the FUD methodology. (Fear, uncertainty, & doubt). They will use this sales tactic often and uplift you every step of the way. Again, if you're dealing with animals you need to find a better balance and stop running your business like a publicly traded company. Read Less

We JUST moved to the area the night before and our dog took a turn for the worst. We knew it was his time and were nervous about using a new vet. They were so sweet and gentle with us and with him. Dr. Bentley and all of the staff here are amazing! Everyone is BEYOND friendly and treats our pets the same if not better then we do! Dr. Bentley is brilliant. His passion for animals is absolutely priceless. We have NEVER been charged  (nor has a procedure been done) for anything that we weren't consulted on first or agreed upon. We have had to put two of our previous cats to sleep and let me tell you that we couldn't have made it through without the love and compassion from the staff at SHAH. Not only did they check on us for a whole week after, but they sent a grievance card to our home signed by everyone. SHAH is a fabulous place. We would never go anywhere else. Read Less

Kimberly In the last weekI've been a client there for about 5 years. The doctors are good, the only complaint I have with them was the first time I brought my dog in ( a brand new rescue from the animal shelter) he was sick and not eating or drinking. They ran number of different tests trying to figure out the problem and they were about to do surgery to see if there was an obstruction in his intestines when they discovered he had a bad case of worms. seems to me , coming from the poünd they would search for that before they ran numerous costly tests so that was about $1,200 to treat a case of the worms. My dog has had numerous serious health problems so we're frequently having to come in; I have spent almost $6k at this place. Since most problems were sudden and unexpected they've always let me pay half and give them a debit card to run a payment 2 weeks later for balance. The last time I did that they forgot to run the second payment and then sent me one bill (which I didn't even open cuz I thought it was a receipt for the payment they were supposed to run) and then they turned me over to collections 1 MONTH after the treatment.I was flabbergasted! I called the office three times about that and left a message for the office manager but she never called me back I had to drive over there (30 min. drive since I moved) to get them to straighten that out which really was not cool at all. Fast forward to today after another emergency problem with the dog I went in to pay and I asked if I could do the half and half thing and she said she'd have to ask the doctor and the doctor came back and told her no! this was the day after I told him my apartment had burned down with everything I own in it. I spent a ton of money at this facility they've always gotten paid like they were supposed to and for them not to give me an option for emergency treatment really pissed me off.they didn't send me a notice saying they couldn't do that anymore or mention it when telling me what treatment they needed to do or anything and to be honest with you they picked a hell of a time to do that being right after the fire. It's called compassion, you guys. I felt like i had been slapped in the face.I won't be going back. Vets have to work with people. a lot of times vet bills are unexpected.I was guaranteeing my payment with a debit card(like I had done in the past!) so basically they would have had to wait 2 weeks for a couple hundred dollars and they couldn't do that . Plenty of other vets will so I will see one of them from now on. I work for a doctor- we don't like to take payments but sometimes you just got to do that for a client especially one that spends a lot of money in your office . or 1 you really pissed off a couple months ago when you messed up her payment the last go round.***Also, in this day and age it is very bad business practice to not acknowledge and/ or respond to a bad review or unhappy customer. I didn't see a single response in their reviews.***Update Feb 25th: well I am gonna go out on a limb and guess that they at least READ the reviews b/c the vet told me he'd be calling Friday night and again on Saturday to check my dog's progress. Its now Sunday night and I haven't heard a peep. Can you believe that? Regardless of what other issues are in the mix, the Dr. should always put his patient's care above all else. Read Less

My dog's behavior therapist recommended Dr. Bently.  Our 1 year old dog is a sweetheart but he has anxiety issues if he feels you are in his space or try to cut his nails, shots, and even runs when you try to put flea medication on.  We did a combination of anxiety medications just to get him a little relaxed and to wear a muzzle. He was very anxious when we got there, but the staff and then Dr. Bently took their time to make my anxious dog feel comfortable.  He sat on the floor petted and played with him.  After gaining his trust and with distraction, he had his vaccinations.  We will go back for happy visits and try to get blood work and nails done as his comfort level increases.  Dr. Bently and his staff are very easy to work with and will work with you to make your dog feel comfortable.  We even took off the muzzle after his shots and he was fine.  We did not wait long to be seen and if he is behind it's probably because he took the time to help a dog like mine. $50 for a dog bath.! They are out of their minds. This place bags you for every dollar. That will be the last time I have my dog at this facility. I wish I could give zero stars for the fact that their website is misleading. Put the real prices per pound for the dogs on the website. The people are nice there, but you accepted my dog for boarding, gave him a shot and then never called to follow up on his "extra shot" that he needed. Then made sure you got me the next time I was in there. My girlfriend stated "I can not make that decision for him" at that stage you should have turned her away or refused service or bleeping called me. Poor communication. I am extremely disappointed. I used to love this place. My dog was raised here. I started coming (often) about 8 years ago for. Riding and vet services. The personalized service was awesome and I trusted them with my dog (who's my baby). In the past few years, they've gotten far more sales oriented and the staff changes often. I question their practices and decisions. Once, my dog was mildly injured and they didn't tell me. It was obvious when I got him home, and it took a year (and close to a thousand dollars in x-rays) for him to heal, back to normal. While I still utilize them sometimes (my dog is comfortable with their boarding system), I'm not as in love, nor do I trust them as much as I once did. Lastly, over the past 2-3 years, there has not been one time when I've called and was NOT immediately placed on hold. As sales oriented and upsell oriented as they are, you'd think they could hire someone to answer the phone and take appointments--or offer an online calendar to do so myself. To call and be placed on hold immediately for 2-5 minutes EVERY TIME is disrespectful. Read Less

I just have to tell about my experience with the staff of Sugar Hill Vet. (S.H.V.) And if you are looking for a vet staff that genuinely cares about your animal and you, then you're going to want to read this. My neighbor who uses S.H.V. had a stroke. She lives alone, with her unstable, very large German Shepherd. She was at the hospital and the dog was in her home with no way to get it food, water or let it relieve itself. No one can get near this dog, because he will attack you. If it were possible, I would of taken him there myself. Animal control couldn't help out either. So I found out that Becky, the groomer, was the only other person that can handle this dog. She agreed to come out and help. She didn't make me beg either. She brought with her a team to include: 2 techs, a Dr., and her husband. The insane dog, of course got loose, because no one is taking him alive. And so they chased him up hills, through the woods. All while the dog is barking, growling and his heckles were raised. Very similar to a mentally stressed individual running around with a chainsaw. It took them about 2 hours to capture and subdue the dog for transport back to their boarding facilities. They also agreed to board him until the situation with the owner gets sorted. They took a blanket that the dog had used as a bathroom (because he couldn't get out to go), washed it and is keeping it with the dog. They even cleaned up a good bit. Got rid of the rotting food that was sitting out. They did all of this on their own time. I'm so moved that so much effort and genuine kindness was made for this dog. I also know it will be a great relief to the owner when she finds out. I also would like to add that the friendly ladies who answered the calls were extremely helpful and each one I talked to was updated on the situation. So I didn't have to explain from the beginning every time I called up there. And personally, just a big thank you for the generosity and for going well above and beyond. Yall scored a point for humanity. Gave me something to believe inRead Less

Our three border collies were boarded for three days at Sugar Hill Animal Hospital in October 2016.  I choose to board my boys at your facility because they are never caged and love to swim and play.  We paid extra for swimming and extra playtime so they would be happy and have fun.  I also sent their normal food prepared in baggies with their name and date on each bag and asked for them to be feed in the evening as usual.  I was very excited to have the doggie cam so I could watch and check on them at anytime during the day or night. The first night, not long after we dropped them off, one of the dogs was not in the suite with the other two dogs.  He was missing all night and the other two dogs howled and were upset that he was gone.  No one called me to explain his absence and I worried and kept checking all night. I also did not see any water bowls or food the first night.  Needless to say I did not sleep and I called first thing in the morning to see what was wrong with my dog.  They said they kept him out for observation after the influenza shot they required but neglected to call me.  I was at my daughter's wedding out of state so I couldn't take my boys home.  I watched the doggie cam all the next day and only saw the boys let out to go to the bathroom, didn't see any playing, and no swimming.  The dogs were given water and food but not the food I brought.  They were feed in the morning and it was all grain and more than I brought.  The doggie cam froze after dark and did not work the next day at all.  This was very distressing and made my time at the wedding less enjoyable.  I was at the Vets door when it opened on Monday and was told that the pool was broken and if the doggie cam freezes it is not fixed until the next day that the office is open.  I only brought my boys here so they could play and swim and not be in cages.  The office manager was suppose to call and discuss this with me but never called.  After this experience, I doubt that I will ever board my dogs anywhere again.Wendy W. Sugar Hill Animal Hospital has made a believer out of me - good people do exist. I had not taken my dog to a vet for the last three years due to financial hardship. I was nervous about taking him him today, afraid I would be looked at as a bad pet owner. That didn't happen, not for even an instant. The staff there was absolutely wonderful. Bruno, my dog, had a foul smell to him, but that didn't stop them from hugging on him and letting him give kisses to the staff. Love this place. I was giving up hope on the vet being a tolerable experience for my dog when we came here. Everyone is so sweet and have no problems accommodating a skittish animal. Thankfully my boy is food motivated, so the vet techs bring in a can of wet food for him to enjoy during the exam, free of charge. Makes the trip so much easier and he's no longer terrified of going to the vet. Thank you SHAH! Read Less

Nice Staff. Typically see you right around your appointment time. HOWEVER....Every single time (except the first) I've come there, I've had an issue.  I think by now I've brought my dog there about 7 times. First time was fine. Second time, they had my appointment cancelled and moved to a date a month later, which I did not authorize. They did fit me in, though. He was there for his yearly shots. I mentioned that I thought my dog had an ear infection and they completely dismissed me about it. I came back a week later and said he definitely did, and they checked him and he did. I had to pay for another office visit as well: $50, plus the culture and the treatment. They told me to come back in a week to have him checked for his infection to make sure it was clearing up.  Didn't have that appointment on the books either.  Fit me in again. Vet tech came into the room with a needle, about to give him who knows what kind of shot. Thank goodness I was there, because he would have received double vaccines within a week. I said he was just there for an ear check. Then they told me they had missed his rabies vaccine (which I could've done the prior week), so I had to pay for that, plus another office visit plus bloodwork. This past time, I had a teeth cleaning scheduled (I had just taken him up there two weeks before for a groom), and the lady at the desk was like "looks like you're here for a groom!!" Um, no. You just did it two weeks ago, so what does that say about your grooming skills? Anyway, I was there for the teeth cleaning and some shots, so pretty expensive day. It was dental month, so they gave me a "goodie bag" with treats and such...great.  The vet told me she was "giving me" this powder to sprinkle on his food to delay the build up of tartar in his mouth.  I thought "how nice!" When I got home and looked at my bill, I was charged for it!  Almost $40. Pretty sneaky.  I don't doubt that they are good people, but they are definitely trying to get as much money out of you as possible, ethically or not. I'm finding a new vet. Read Less

This is a house of horrors for pets. Please do not give these people your pet. They are the worst vets I have ever experienced. My dog trembles and cries at the site of this vet two years after having her last visit to this place. I suggest you walk out in the examination area. Listen to the basement. Hear the pets below. You'll know I'm not exaggerating. These people are cruel. On top of them being negligent to animals, they are incompetent with their billing. I dropped my dog off on a Friday expecting a call when she was ready to pick up. I never received a call. I went to the vet at around 3:00 thinking she must be ready. The store was closed. The next day I arrived at opening time as I knew my dog would be horrified at staying there for an entire night. Up until then, Sugar Hill Vets were the only vets she or I ever knew and she was horrified at them. When I picked her up, the receptionist accused me of leaving my pet there purposely. I explained that I had not received a call and didn't know their closing time. I explained that my dog would never want to stay there overnight. I paid the over night fee and retrieved my trembling dog. I changed vets. Now my dog is content going to the vet. She no longer trembles or cries. But, to this day, two years after our last appointment, my dog still cries when she sees Sugar Hill vets. I urge you to listen to the pets in the basement and really get to know the management. They are liars and hateful people. I will never get over what they did to my dog and the way they treated me. They are the worst! Read Less

On January 2, 2016, called to see when my dog was ready to be picked up, was told he would be ready at 3:30. Arrived at 3:15 knowing that your office always takes a lot of time to pay and check out. Paid my $953.00 for 9 days of boarding my Bischon, and was told that the Vet wanted to talk to me. I waited, 10 minutes, and a Vet came out and introduced herself, basically told me another Vet had treated my dog and that she didn't know what he wanted to talk to me about, but she would put a note in my dogs chart, and have him call me. (it's now been 2 weeks and am still waiting for that call) I was then told the Groomer was not finished with my dog and it would be another 10 to 20 minutes. I waited 15 minutes and the groomer brought my dog to me, then they told me they would get his food, and items that he was brought in with. They brought his food, and asked me what else we had brought in with him, and I told them a pad and his bed. Off, they went to find it, 10 more minutes and they came out and explained that his items were being washed because he had peed on them. I asked why he peed on his stuff, since he was supposed to have doggie day care and extra walks throughout, and was told, "Well it was that way when we came in this morning". I said if it was that way when you came in this morning, why are you just washing it now, knowing I was picking him up at 3:30. The attendant then told me, well it will be another hour and if you leave your phone number I'll call you and you can come back and pick it up. As I smiled with an "ARE YOU STUPID" grin on my face, I told her to go pull the stuff out of the machine and bring it to me.She did, but she only had his pad, so after another 15 minutes of the attendants trying to find his bed, and again offering to call me when they located it so I could come back and pick it up. Oh, did I mention my dog was boarded in the Disney VIP Suite, the one that the cameras do not work in unless you download, and PAY an additional fee for odoggy. Or that while in the Disney suite my dog was sickened by a medicine given to him by the Vet, in which made him sick, and I had to pay an additional clean up fee for. I have never been involved or seen a bigger Circus than what happened at your office, at the time I was very mad and upset, now I look back and I have to smile at the total incompetence, in which I paid an extreme amount of money for. I smile, because it reminds me of what my Grandfather use to say "Just because you pay the best price, don't mean you are going to get the best service". You have the worst staff and incompetent Vet's, who evidently do not care about the dogs they treat, or they would have called me, that I have ever seen or had the displeasure of leaving my dog in the care of. That will not happen again. Read Less

I found a kitten that had been struck by a car but was still alive and brought it to Sugar Hill Animal hospital, as they were the closest vet. Upon entering and stating that it was emergency, the staff sprung into action right away and were reassuring and empathetic as I waited to hear from Dr. Johansen, who had been dispatched immediately to look at it. Although they were unable to save the kitten, I was nonetheless so very thankful for the quick responses and the warmth and appreciation shown by all. So far we've had nothing but excellent care here. From the time we adopted our pup and had his neuter surgery, to all the regular exams and vaccinations they've been nothing but kind, gentle, and helpful. We've boarded our pup here twice when we've had to go out of town. Their rates are great and he came back to us as we left him. Recently, our dog came home from boarding with a cough and they are welcoming us back with a courtesy exam to make sure he's ok. He was clean and well fed when we picked him up. I'd recommend them. Their boarding prices were very reasonable, and I've found prices for other services to be better than I'm used to, but I'm from Chicago suburbs originally, so that who knows if that factors in.Read Less

I began taking my Cairn Terrier to Sugar Hill right after they opened in 1993 and Sugar Hill was different than the other vet's offices.  There was just a great vibe about the staff and Dr Hamryka. We lost Scamper in 1996.  But in 2006 we returned with a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier.  The office had grown substantially and the technology and equipment is state of the art.  I would never take my dogs anywhere else.  The level of caring and compassion at Sugar Hill Animal Hospital is amazing....something you don't see very often anymore. I would highly recommend this animal hospital for anyone that cherishes their animals. Read Less

We've been going to SHAH for nearly ten years now. We started with ferrets and now have two large dogs we take to them regularly. The staff is great, very caring and compassionate and my dogs actually love going to the vet! This may not be the cheapest vet in town but you really do get what you pay for. The service is great, the doctors personally call us to follow up on the pups whenever we bring them in for an issue and the staff is always kind and helpful. We have boarded them in regular boarding as well as the private suites with cameras. Its really nice when you're traveling to be able to check in on your animals through a live streaming app on your phone. The private room is nice since both our dogs can share one space and don't have to be apart from each other while being away from home as well.Their doggy/puppy daycare is really nice, they have a pool that my Lab loves to swim in. Its an extra fee though since they have to have extra people to man the pool and to dry off the pups when their fun is done but having all that Lab energy expended is well worth the extra ten bucks. They even send home little behavior report cards to let you know how they did with the group that day. Dr. Thomas is great and so is Dr. Erik (formerly Elliot). Our dogs love seeing them. All of the other doctors are great as well but those are our favorites. The vet techs are always friendly and they have an internship/apprenticeship program where older kids can come in and watch interactions with patients. Its nice to see that they are involved with the community too.All in all this is the best vet I have been to with my animals in N. GA or S. FL. Read Less

Read Less

After a complimentary nail trim, some blood work and flea medicine, I can truly say my dog feels better, I feel better and this place rocks. I would recommend it to anyone who asks.

GA or S. FL. Read Less
