I cannot begin to tell you how thankful I am for Dr. Mathias and her clinic. I am a client dating back to when she and Dr. Carole Ludwig were in practice together. My most recent experience was with my 12-yr old chihuahua who suffers from heart failure and collapsing trachea. Three weeks ago she took a turn for the worse and I really did not think she would make it much longer. Thanks to Dr. Mathias she is almost 100%. This has made me one happy dog owner. The staff are always very caring, helpful and courteous, My dog Smokey and cat Midas were seen yesterday and very well taken care of. Smokey was so excited when we arrived and happy through out the procedures. Midas, well he's a laid back big fellow and was butter in their hands. When you take "the kids" to a doctor's appointment there is sometimes some anxiety but the staff at Oconee Veterinary Hospital put you and "the kids"/pets at ease. I would highly recommend Dr. Jo Anne Mathias. I first found Central Oconee Animal Clinic when we bought a house in Oconee County, and I was looking for a vet to clean my dog’s teeth. I was calling around to all the vets in the Athens/Oconee area and getting pricing because having a dog’s teeth cleaned can be very expensive. (Our previous vet in Atlanta, a great vet, whom we loved and trusted, was quite expensive.) I think I spoke with 16 vet offices, and I was most impressed with Holly, the office manager, at Central Oconee Animal Clinic. She went into great detail explaining how Dr. Mathias would take all the additional precautions necessary to protect the health of my 14 year old dog. This gave me confidence to proceed with the cleaning, and their price was reasonable, too. They also worked with us to accommodate our schedule. Since Dr. Mathias didn’t know anything about our dog, she conducted a very thorough physical exam to determine if it was safe to clean her teeth (and, of course, did blood work also). We were pleased with the experience. We had found our Oconee County vet.Our dog was later diagnosed with chronic kidney failure, for which there is no cure. All you can do is try to prolong the dog’s life as long as there is some quality of life left to enjoy. Dr. Mathias was extremely caring and compassionate. She was very thoughtful and careful in every medication prescribed and every test she performed. She always explained all test results in detail. She took a lot of time with us, and her fees were very reasonable. She explained what all our options were, so that we could make informed decisions. When the day came to say goodbye to our sweet girl, Dr. Mathias and Leslie, one the great tech’s at Central Oconee, were kind enough to come to our home.I would highly recommend Dr. Mathias and everyone at Central Oconee Animal Clinic.
