Cherokee Veterinary Emergency Clinic I was visiting from out of state. Had an issue with my cat. I am very used to my blue pearl located in Rockville Maryland which is a fabulous place to take your animal. However that is not the case with this practice. you will sit on hold anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes for an update. The veterinarian will not call you Even though they say they will.. Lab results that are promised within a certain amount of time are late. Don't waste your time or money. There is zero communication with these folks stay away. I have been to many specialty hospitals and emergency centers with multiple pets this is by far the worst I've ever experienced. Read Less

I never write reviews but after reading the reviews of others I too want to give warning. DO NOT bring your pet here unless it is a true life or death emergency! We brought our dog here at 9 pm on a Sunday night following a grooming accident resulting in a cut on the back of his head. This is how they get you... we were immediately taken into an exam room and our dog's weight and vitals were taken which made us think we would be seen soon. Wrong! We waited for 3 HOURS before checking to see if we had been forgotten & were told it would be at least another 45 minutes unless a bigger emergencies came in & then it would be longer. We finally decided to ask to purchase a cone collar to keep our dog from scratching the spot and just wait until the morning to see our regular vet. They agreed to sell us a cone for $40! It was a horrible experience with staff that seemed like they could care less about you or your pet. In the 3.5 hours we were there we never once saw the doctor. Read Less

I am not one to ever write reviews but I am sitting here about to loose my mind... so I figured hopefully, I can help someone else from not having to experience this feeling by NEVER COMING HERE. I Have been here for 3.5 hours for a couple of stitches in my dogs side.... called into the room for the so-called doctor to tell me it was going to be 500-600 dollars- although he didnt know  because he "hadn't like reviewed it yet" .... what??? Taken back out to the waiting room, where I am sitting ALONE and  told I have at least 45 minutes left for the doctor to "write discharge notes".  No one was here when I came and since then, only three "patients" have arrived..... The only hold up is the unprofessionalismof the one doctor and his incompetent staff. Save yourself. Drive to Atlanta or Tennessee or freaking Texas. Read Less

I have taken 4 of my Chihuahuas here with major Emergencies! They took EXCELLENT CARE of all of them within the past 6 years, the most recent was 4 months ago, My Tiny Chihuahua was having Seizures non stop, they kept her overnight, it was Expensive but she is back to normal and I am Very Happy! The one before that was 2 years ago, I had accidentally stepped on my 2 pound favorite little Boy, I was coming around the corner and he was coming the opposite way, I only stepped on his Ear, they took EXCELLENT CARE of him, we were there for 4 hours, and wanted to keep him overnight but I asked to see him, they took me back to see him in his little oxygen box and he tried to jump out to get to me, I said I want to bring him home and they said Ok, he is Wonderful and I am so Thankful for their Care if my Precious Babies! My 11 mth old Pup broke out w/hives after having his routine bordetella shot. Since it was after 5, I decided to take him to CECV. As we arrived, another lady walked in holding her sm 15 yr old dog. The vet tech darted to her and took the dog from the lady's arms and proceeded to walk away. The lady said, I didn't want you to take my dog, I just need to ask the vet a question. She had been to the vet earlier that day and had some of her dogs teeth pulled and his trachea had calloupsed. He was fine but was very nervous about being around people. The lady sat down and we began to talk. They took my pup to get his vitals and I asked if we could go with and was told no, but they would get us when a room was available.  The tech told me that the dr will probably give my pup a steroid shot and benedryl and I said I wanted to talk to the vet first. I said do not do anything to my pup until I see the vet. I asked the lady, did you not want them to take her? She said no, I just needed to ask the vet a question. She said I've already spent over $300 on meds, which she had in hand. The girl at the desk brought over a clipboard and asked her to fill it out. She said I don't need to fill anything out I just need to ask a question. She knew her dog was old and she wanted to take her home and try to get her comfortable. She said if she dies at least she will go peacefully at home and not having anxiety etc. the girl kept pressing about the paperwork. She then says well the vet has already examined her so there will be a $59 fee. She said I'm not paying for something that I didn't ask them to do. She said would you please bring me my dog so I can go. The vet tech came out and started arguing with her telling her the vet thinks you need to do this etc. they wanted to charge her $600-900 to keep the dog overnight on oxygen. She told them no. The tech kept arguing with her. It was the weirdest thing I've ever seen. I made a comment to the tech, I think she understands but would like to take her dog home. The vet tech walked away with a scowl on her face. No one at this point had been very nice and certainly not cordial. We waited until they had a room for us and we went inside. This whole time I couldn't stop thinking about this nice lady that had just spent over $300 on her dog at one vet, only to have him held captive at another vet. We were told that once we were in a room our pup would be brought in with us. We were there an hour  before we were put in a room. Once in the room, 40 mins passed before I asked about getting our dog. The girl replied, I'll ask. I said no, please bring him. So reluctantly, they brought him in the room. We then waited another hour before the vet came in. Now she was very nice. My pup had had diarrhea and had vomited once, was eating regularly, drinking etc. She said it was definitely hives, and recommended a benedryl shot, a steroid shot, iv fluids, and anti nausea meds. So the office visit was $104, each shot $60 and god knows how much the meds and fluids would be. I told her I gave him benedryl and I think we will just do the steroid shot. He was eating and drinking regularly and hadn't thrown up since 6am. Her response was well you can do that but I don't recommend it. I recommend full treatment. I told her we were following up in the morning with our vet and would go from there. She then said ok. I did have a chat with the front office girl about why the tech thought it was necessary to badger the other lady when it was clear the lady was upset. I asked why would they not just give her her dog back. I said that put a bad taste in my mouth about how that was handled. It was uncalled for and the forms they kept telling her to sign was uncalled for. Why would a vet examine an animal and treat them without talking to the Owner's first? It was a very weird atmosphere. I can totally understand the comments about pushing paperwork and circling a payment method. Holding your animal hostage etc. Our visit was right over 3 hours. 6:45pm till 9:58pm I think there were only two dog and a cat there along with mine. Read Less

If I could rate a negative they would be well worth it.  TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! I brought my dog in because he had swallowed, something that was Clogging his airway. After having him in the back for 2 hours, they came in the room finally and told me it was going to be 600 dollars just to give him a treatment that I could easily do myself. After telling them I was not going to pay them that much, I chose to leave.  They demanded me to pay the exam fee, which is ridiculous 100 dollar. Just to tell me what was the matter.  Once bringing my puppy back which was in perfect shape she mentioned to tell me if your dog dies, it's not their fault for leaving without treatment. She tells me that while I am holding my 2 year old daughter. After getting home, my baby puppy was playing like normal and behaving like normal. They want as much money as they can get out of you as possible.  I would never go here again or tell anyone to go here. I hope they see these posts from the emergency center because they have terrible customer service and care about their money more than actually animals and their family Read Less

Excellent treatment of my cat. I expected our visit to be costly, due to this being an emergency facility. I was surprised at check out with a reasonable bill. The on duty vet was very professional and knowledgeable. They worked to mitigate my cost with options for treatment. As it was 6 am, they worked to stabilize my cat for transfer to his regular vet at 7:30am for further treatment at non-emergency pricing. It was a long weekend of vets and hospitalization for my cat. We ended up at Cobb Emergency, as well. Both facilities provided excellent care. I highly recommend them both. Read Less

Our "words don't describe how amazing he is" rescue Rhodesian Ridgeback mix now 7 year old Herb who has been with us for 4 years and our kids are convinced he will be the 1st dog to live forever because he's just so loveable and they can't imagine life w/out Herb decided to knock a plate off our kitchen counter that was unreachable (our son blames our cat but she has never done this) and lick every last thing off of all the jagged broken very sharp pieces of the broken plate while my daughter and I ran an errand. He cut his tongue and blood was everywhere and he was still bleeding when we got home 30 minutes later. Googled dog tongue bleed and decided to take him to emergency clinic. Cherokee Emergency Clinic cobbevc.com is just amazing. Our first time there. Despite my car's back seat having a blood coating from his tongue bleed his clotting thing decided to kick in soon after arriving. W/in 30 minutes (despite a "you are probably looking at a 2 hr wait" from front desk which I totally appreciate) we were in and out w/no charge.  This place was just amazing. So far the only casualty is our bedroom carpet. I just can't praise them enough. Read Less

I have been to Cherokee Emergeny Vet Clinic several times over the years and have ALWAYS been happy with thier service. But, I am giving them three stars instead of five because of one reason. On my last visit, I clearly discussed with Dr. Grasso if the medication my dog needed ($300) was available through a written Rx at a drugstore (therefore indicating I would like a written script) and it was not. However later on in the visit, he offered a "less expensive" ($100) option and after being there for nearly two hours and mentally tallying up the entire bill, I went with the second medication. Well, It's an antibiotic Publix hands out for FREE. And it is a very common one too, so I can only imagine Dr. Grasso had a pretty good idea he could write a script but didn't offer. So I was charged $100 for something I could have gotten at the local pharmacy for FREE. I was pissed. So, no matter what they tell you, ALWAYS ask if ANY medicine your pet needs can be filled at a local pharmancy -  it will almost always be far less expensive than at the clinic. My regular vet always works with me whenever possible on medications. The emergency clinic is so expensive to begin with, I'm disappointed they don't realize many of us could use a break on the cost. Read Less

My dog was diagnosed with congestive heart failure last year. She had trouble breathing Sunday, so I called her vet for suggestions. He told me to give her another dose of Lasix. If she doesn't improve, take her to an emergency vet. Since she didn't improve, I took her to the Cherokee Emergency Vet due to proximity.  When we arrived, they took my dog back after asking me what was wrong with her. Shortly after, they brought me to a room where the vet cane in and told me they gave her oxygen and lasix. She wanted to keep her overnight (this was around 11:30 pm), pick her up between 7:30 am and 8:30 am to take her to her regular vet's office. The cost would be $900.  I struggled with what to do. I decided to take her home and wait until her vet opened. By the time we got checked out and home, it was 1:30 am. When I took her to her vet at 7:30 am, he said she was dying due to heart failure. I wished Cherokee would have told me that, so she didn't have to suffer 6 more hours. And it was so greedy to want to charge me $900 and lose my dog the following day. I'm disappointed and will never return. RIP Emily. I love you! Read Less

My boyfriend and I picked up a stray dog on the side of the road on Sunday night and thought we could take it back to my place until we could find his owner, but he was making me nervous being at my house so we decided to take him here. It was late and they told me they technically could not take him because he was not injured, but the staff was very sweet and tried to accommodate. One of the workers there took him home and was going to keep him until Tuesday because animal control was not open on Monday. He was gracious enough to take him home and feed him and take care of him. The next day the owner got in contact with us and said it was the dog she was keeping for a friend. She lets us know the dog has been through so much and it was very sad he got out. We let her know that one of the employees had took him in and that she should go back and ask to get in contact with him. She told us that on Monday she called and a lady at the front desk was very rude and did not know the situation and did not even try to help her. My boyfriend and I decided to go back Monday night and it was the same lady. I asked again if she knew how to get in contact with this employee who had him and she proceeded to tell me over and over again he had been picked up by animal control. I told her that animal control was closed on Monday and she proceeded to tell me he was there. I continued to ask her if there was anyone working who was working Sunday night or knew the situation and she said no. She also did not try to get in contact with any other employees and told me she had no clue who I was talking about. She told me it was a waste of time to wait there, but I told her I would wait for someone else to come talk to me. 30 minutes pass and no one is helping us so we leave. The owner of the dog texted my boyfriend this morning saying that the dog was with the employee and that he had left his name and number on the front desk to call him when we had found the owner. The dog is back with his owner. Some of the employees are sweet, but this lady was TERRIBLE. She was unbelievably rude and lied to us to get us out. Read Less

We were in and out of the emergency vet multiple times this past weekend. I hope no one has to bring his or her sweet pet here, but if you do, I hope Dr. Fanning is working that evening. She was the bright spot in this situation. She quelled our fears, answered our questions thoroughly (even on 10pm phone calls), was honest about her concerns, and stuck to the treatment plan from our regular vet when we needed overnight hospitalization. We arrived before Dr. Fanning was on shift one evening, though. And another Dr. whose name I do not remember, was essentially guilting us and pressuring into unnecessary treatments when we had already come with a treatment plan for our dog from our regular vet hospital. We were tired and stressed and beyond wit's end, when she told us that we were wasting our time and money with our vet's current treatment plan and that our dog (whom she'd never seen before) could be paralyzed in as little as 3 days if we did not get him x-rays and neurology treatment ASAP. I'm fortunate my husband was stern and requested we stick to the plan from our vet (and that, later Dr. Fanning agreed with this plan). Because I was so emotional and desperate for my sweet dog, that I would have done anything. Looking back, I thought it was deceitful and wrong of her to try to pressure and guilt us into a treatment plan we did not want. I'm sure it was her honest medical opinion, but her methods were callous and terrifying for pet parents who had been put through the wringer over a weekend of trying to save their dog. I'd hate to have to take my baby here again, but if I do I hope Dr. Fanning is the vet on shift. Read Less

I normally ignore bad ratings or whatnot because hey, I have worked in retail long enough to look past angry customers. But tell me, how am I supposed to being a three hour day old chick from Jasper to you? I asked for some advice due to complications with the hatching, I wouldn't even be mad about the death if I was told something other than bring it to you. Even a simple "That doesn't sound good, I hope it makes it through." would have been better. I asked to speak to a vet, and told no. It was Sunday evening, you were the only vet I knew of. I was in a panic, crying and seeking some type of help, only to be turned away and my bird left to die because the very trip up there would have been too cold on it and it would have died that way. The only reason you are getting a 1 star is because I can't give you a zero. I will never be bringing my animals back to you or your sister location. Money better given to another practice. Read Less

My wife and I took our boy, Hank, here at about 11:30pm, and we were honestly afraid we were going to lose him. He was very sick. Never in my life have I encountered such a wonderful establishment, not only among veterinarian care, but even among human medical care. The girl at the desk was incredibly kind, helpful, informational, was willing to check on Hank for us and give us updates. She went above and beyond her duties and I commend her for it. The doctor and nurse were wonderful as well. They were attentive and informational, answered our questions rather than skirting them and throwing a bunch of fancy words at us, and doing what they want. They were up front with us about what would probably work for Hank and what would be a waste of time. I would recommend this vet to anyone. Great job guys! Thank you so much! Read Less

If your pert is in need of dire emergency treatment, do not take your loved pet here. I took one cat one time and they stated the cat had some brain parasite and need to do ct scans of brain costing 3k and up, I originally took cat in because he was meowing and head was turned to side like it was stuck or something broken. I refused the scans they recommended, took cat next day to regular vet, diagnosis was he had a stroke, i simply cared for him over a week and he was up walking, still had the crooked neck turn, but eventually he got back to normal, as with any stroke, it just takes time to get back to normal. another time took cat there and said he had retnal failure, walked out with 850$ bill, had to go to regular vet as they did nothing for him at ER but blookdwork, scans, etc My brother recently also took his sick dog, they obviously didnt give his dog the prompt treatment and his dog died there. there are better places that actually care about your pet. stay away from this place. I would like to say a little something about the visit my girlfriend and I had here today. First, I would like to start off by saying we did have a bit of a wait, but were informed of this wait as soon as we entered the exam room, after they had first made sure that our wonderful family member had stable vitals and could endure the long wait time. They came in informed us she was indeed stable and that the Dr. on staff this afternoon was in a procedure and we could expect up to an 2 hour wait, before seeing the Dr. With them disclosing that to us we were indeed given a choice if we wanted to wait or not. Once the Dr. a Mr. Zach Lane, came into the room he quickly got the background on what was going on, which he then proceeded to get down on "Quinn's" level and allowed her to take her time, before examining her and not just grabbing her and being forceful. He was kind, gentle with her, gave her more than enough time so that she could approach him and calm down, as she was very nervous and shaking. Dr. Lane also was very thorough with his exam and with his explanations to us about what could be going on. He was able to present viable options that not only made sense, but also were cost effective thus allowing us to feel that our encounter was not money driven, but that it was driven out of genuine concern. He was the one who suggested that because she was stable enough, in his opinion, we could do our diagnostic tests with our regular vet, thus saving us money and easing our fears about her condition. They gave her fluids, pain meds, and checked to make sure she could go to the bathroom. They were able to give us the courtesy of obtaining the needed samples for our visit, the next day, so as to help Quinn have a smoother transition to her normal Dr. Yes it was slightly higher than we would have paid at our Vet's practice, but this was expected considering it was after hours and on a weekend, Sunday, but so much less than we would have guessed. I am very pleased with the staff and from Dr. Lane's actions with us and his treatment of Quinn. I would hope that no one "have to" take their furry loved ones over a weekend or Sunday for that matter, but if it was needed, this is the place I would recommend going to. They simply were just amazing all around. We hope to never have another situation arise that would cause us to return, but we now know that if it did, we have a place we are comfortable with taking Quinn too. Read Less

I've read may of the negative reviews about this clinic but my experiences haven't been as bad. They are very expensive. They offer an out-of-hours service which normally isn't available so that's to be expected as far as I'm concerned. I've had 3 experiences with this clinic over the past decade. My first evening trip was due to my dachshund/beagle mix rupturing a disc in his spine which paralysed him. They took him in and did the exam, came in and gave us several options, all expensive, ranging from just pain meds to emergency surgery. We settled on steroid injections in the ruptured disk which they indicated was the best non-surgical option until we could get him to our regular vet. The total bill was $900 which included the x-rays, meds, and injections. The surgery was quoted in the 5-6k range. When we got him to our regular vet the following day they agreed with the treatment and said the quick intervention with those shots likely stopped the swelling from permanently damaging his spine. They continued the same treatment for the next few weeks (at 1/3 the cost per treatment), and he made a full recovery after several months of rest. Our second experience was when my wife found a newborn kitten which had been abandoned by its mother, it was so near death we couldn't do anything to save it. We took it to this emergency vet to have it humanely put to sleep, which they did at no cost. The last was this past Wednesday night. Our 15 year old golden retriever was obviously dying so we took her to this clinic. The techs came out and carried her out of our vehicle into the clinic for us. The Dr came in and gave us the options essentially saying in her current condition it's either put her to sleep or go all out with the expense with no guarantee they would be able to save her. Given that 15 years is well past the normal life span of a golden, she suggested the former option made more sense as the expense could get very high with little chance of success. We agreed with putting her to sleep and they took us back and let us comfort her while the Dr did it. They handled the cremation and gave us a paw print in plaster. Total cost was $300. Other than cost, these people have been there when we needed them. If it's for anything other than an out-of-hours emergency your regular vet is always the most cost efficient option. Read Less

I brought my dog in for odd trembling. Same as all the other google reviews here for the most part. Extremely long waits without updates, borderline extortion without any dialog or information. My wait was 1:40 before I even heard anything (I had to tell the front desk I was leaving) before they came in. Some young girl named Katie/Katy came into the private wait room with a $250 bill (printed 3 minutes ago) for a skin scrape. Skin scrape has nothing to do with nervous system or blood work or anything to do with trembling. Because I was HAD by my primary vet not 45 days ago for the same skin scrape I was a little apprehensive to this already but KATY had nothing but high school brattitude to give me stating "we can't do anything until you agree to this first" When I asked about the trembling, my original complaint, she said "the doctor is not concerned with that" When I asked if I could speak with the vet she said its gonna be a while and proceeded to turn her back to me and walk out. I will spare you the dialog but in the end I paid a $110 "emergency visit" fee and walked out. NEVER GO HERERead Less

Read Less

I'm happy to report that my dog's wounds are healing nicely and he's acting like his goofy self again. Read Less

If I could leave "zero stars", I would. My dog was attacked by another dog today. Leaving his ear mangled. My mom drove from Rydal to Woodstock for this office, hoping they would help. Instead, they charged over 100$ to tell us it'd be "very expensive to fix him"... okay? But you didn't do ANYTHING. No temporary stitches, no medication, NOTHING. So we had to pay the 100+$ to get our dog back, bring him home, with no improvement. So we just spent an additional 60$ at the pharmacy to do something OURSELVES because you were NO HELP. Read Less

I brought my dog on Friday April 27th, he was so sick, I had to make the heartbreaking decision to put him down. I was given a form to fill out and before I knew it it was over. I did have a little time with my pet, I was so distraught, I could not breathe. I paid 331.00 to have my beloved pet cremated. I called over to the hospital today and was told my baby’s remains we put into a community grave. After 17 years of caring for my dog, no one offered me the option to have him privately cremated. I was shown the form today - how dare they assume that I would not choose to do that! I am heartbroken all over again. I am going to th newspaper and letting them know what was done. I want my money back that I paid for something I did not get!! Nearly 10 hours when I spoke to Heather at the front desk - and still no one has called me! Read Less

Took almost 2 hours for our cat to get examined for an abscess. Turns out it wasn't infection or anything serious at all. After finding that out, they wouldn't let us just pay and leave but instead, we now wait for a prescription of amox to treat an infection that they told us wasn't even there. An hour later we're still in the examination room. Guess I could use this time to reflect on why we decided to come to this clown shop. $104 for a vague examination and I'm not even sure what else they're going to charge us for. Yikes. Read Less

I'm surprised reading some of these reviews! I've had multiple experiences with this ER and every time I was treated well and my needs were met. The first time I went was to say goodbye to our family Sheltie, Bailey. It was a Sunday and our regular vet was closed - they led us into a room and left us alone to say goodbye. They made a clay pawprint. We felt very at ease saying goodbye to our beloved pup there. The other two times I drove up to be with a friend who had to treat her pets and the staff answered all the questions she had and took the time to walk her through all the procedures they suggested. They are the FIRST place I recommend when normal vets are closed!!!

Read Less

If I based my experience solely on the vet and his expertise I would give a 5 star. He was very helpful and and spoke to is in terms we could understand.
