So I was a bit concerned about coming here w/ the couple of poor reviews. My dog Sophie is my fur baby! She means the world to me and I definitely would do anythg to help her if she is or was not well. So for the last couple of days my sweet girl has been having respiratory issues. I was hoping it would resolve, but from two days ago to this am she was a lot worse. I called this vet yesterday - hoping that the appointment would be just a check in. I arrived about 15 minutes bf our scheduled appointment to complete the new patient paperwork. After that was completed we were called in just before our scheduled appointment time. The doctor was thorough and cautious... And spent the appropriate amount of time together all the information about her condition. He shared with me his thoughts and what his goals were with her treatment. He also requested that I follow up with him on Sunday to ensure that her treatment has helped her. He prescribed a antibiotic and a allergy medication. I was worried about the bill, but knew that it was for her own good. To my surprise for the visit, and two medications $76! A great price in comparison to many of the larger clinics in this area. The staff was very friendly, helpful, and welcoming! Thank you for all you did Team Newtown! Read Less

My husband and I started coming here about 25 years ago.  Dr. Francis successfully did AI for one of our dogs and has taken care of all other health problems for our dogs over the years.  The most amazing "save" was his care of one of the dogs from the Waimanalo puppy mill bust.  That dog was close to death.  He got her through, including the 12 sick puppies she had shortly after the Humane Society raid.  Dr. Francis believes in nutrition and doesn't jump to "heroic" measures.  He has a practical, down to earth approach to things.  He has an almost instinctive feel for animals.  While we primarily go to Dr. Francis, Dr. Darin has helped us too.  They and their staff are caring, good folks. (This was a review on their old page but I want to make sure everyone knows about our horrible experience there. Since my review two years ago we have been taking our pets to VCA and have received excellent care and service.)My wife and I have been bringing our dogs and cats to Dr. Francis for years and he is an excellent doc and a good man. He gets 4 stars. The staff, however...ZERO STARS. Our 17+ year old cat was on his last legs and we knew it was his time to go. Dr. Francis knows him well and always treats him with special care. On this, his last day, we knew Dr would want to know. We didn't have an appointment so we called in first thing in the morning. At first my wife was told it wouldn't be till almost lunchtime that he would be in. She asked if they could let him know and see if he could take our cat earlier (rather than continue to let him suffer). They did and turns out he could come in much sooner. Needless to say we were already barely holding it together but we walk in and we barely get a look - and they know who we are!! They all ignore us the whole time until the doctor himself calls us into the room. Did he seem upset that he had to come in early? No. Was the tech helping him upset? No. But those fools in the front pretty much gave us the cold shoulder the whole time!! Only one sheepishly said "sorry" under her breath as we were leaving. I wish the story ended there but my wife had to go back to pickup our cat's ashes today. She's not the kind to get overly sensitive but she said she got the same treatment. She came in, someone asked if she needed help, and the one with the curly hair (Marsha, I think) just tells the girl our last name and ignores my wife the whole time. SHE KNOWS US! She knows how old our cat was!! My wife walked outta there with no words of sympathy or comfort. Just a bill and a box with the ashes. What the hell did we do to deserve this treatment? PATHETIC!The only one who was ever consistently nice to us is the Dr.'s daughter, Ronnie. She's a gem. The rest of them need to get their heads outta their asses and LEARN HOW TO TREAT YOUR CUSTOMERS! I'm so sorry Dr. Kamiya - you are great but if we come to see you chances are our "kids" are sick. That's already tough enough. We don't need the attitude from your staff. We will be taking our pets elsewhere from now on. Shameful that in the "aloha" state THIS is how your staff treats people. This vet seems really inexperienced and disorganized. We had several visits with them over the past few months and were left feeling like it was a huge waste of time and money to deal with them.We went there because we wanted to try to get our dog pregnant via artificial insemination (AI), and the other vet who was our first choice was going to be out of town during our "window" so we went to Newtown Vet instead because we basically had no other option. The vet would not definitively tell us his success rate for AI, which should have probably been a warning sign. Also, the staff are not good about returning calls and giving reminder calls. Basic office skills 101. Another warning sign. Also, they insisted on muzzling my dog just because she's big, even though she has never ever needed to be muzzled before at any other vet. Overall it was a huge waste of time and money. We spent ~$1,000 on tests, visits, AI and an ultrasound to end up with nothing. Even though it's never guaranteed, we felt the vet messed it up with the timing. We tried to ask him to do the AI 2 days earlier, after the progesterone level was a 6 (I researched 20+ internet sites on the right timing and most said you want to do an AI the day after its a 5 or higher) but the vet made us wait 3 more days, I think because he was out of the office and because he didn't get us the next day results early enough in the day to squeeze us in. So we missed the window.  When we came back for the ultrasound we waited 40 minutes past our appointment time and paid $200 to see a vet tech (not an actual vet) who had some kind of briefcase ultrasound equipment with very hard to see display and she could barely work the machine and had no clue what organs she was scrolling over. She was completely cuckoo, and weird, talking about anal glands (nothing to do with puppy scans). The bad:The vet doesn't know what he's doing even though he pretends he's experienced with AI.Staff have bad communication skills. It's out in Pearl City, traffic sucks both ways if you live in town.Every time we went we had to wait past our scheduled appointment start time. The good:It's relatively easy to get an appointment (most likely because they are not a great place to go)They are reasonably priced (because they are not a good vet and can't demand the higher prices that good vets can). Avoid this place if you need anything complicated. Read Less
