This is the only place I will bring my bratty, spoiled little FlufferNutter. Seriously, I've been to a few vets with pets over the years, and this is the best I've been to. Little Derp hates to go, obviously, but he likes the people there, because they really care about him. They speak to him in soothing tones, hold him gently but firmly, and tell him he's pretty. He literally screams likes a little girl getting his nails trimmed, just FYI. But I promise they've not hurt him. They've squeezed us in when he had a cut on his foot with a same day appointment. They greet you by name, and truly care about you and the health of your pet. I highly recommend this place. (Only negative I know is parking--arrive early in case you have to park on the street nearby. I've only had to do that once, and I was picking up meds without the dog, so it wasn't a biggie for me.)This review is BarkBark approved. Read Less

Very helpful staff, very informative, very attentive. I rescued 3 abandoned kittens and gave 2 to a friend and kept one. Our friend came here for the second set of shots and to have his girls spayed. I had been to another vet for a checkup for our boy kitten and I thought they were good until it was time to get him neutered. It seemed like they wanted to over charge me compared to what my friend spent here. So I called the Aina Haina pet hospital and talked to a very friendly lady who told me about the neuter now program. I was told through the neuter now program the pre-op visit would be free even though he hadn't been there before. The other place where he had been before wanted to charge me $50. Longer story short, I ended up having his surgery here and they were amazing. Dr. Nicole explained the surgery to us at the pre-op appointment and even stayed with us to explain all of the "optional" things like the cone of shame and pain medication. She gave us the choice of what we wanted. The day of the surgery I dropped him off at 8am. I received a phone call around 11am to tell me he was out of surgery and recovering and I could pick him up later. They even called the next day to ask how he was doing. I'm very glad our friends found this place and referred us. We won't be going anywhere else from now on. Read Less

Finding the right vet for your fam isn't an easy task.  It's like finding the right pediatrician for your kids or the right internal med physician.  Ok, that might be a bit extreme, but you get what I'm saying. It really is important because these are the folks that will be caring for your 4 legged family member and helping you every step of the way in their walk of life.  After we adopted our dog from the Humane Society, we knew we needed to find the right vet and staff for him and us.  I called several places and got a really great feeling after speaking to the staff at Aina Haina Pet Hospital.  I did some research on their company and brought our dog in.  AMAZING!  From the moment we walked in, they were loving on our dog, welcomed us like family and made us feel very comfortable.  We have never waited long in the waiting room and when your in the exam room, the vet techs are normally great and gives tons of TLC to our dog and our vet is so warm and answers all questions posed. Now here's the kicker, which amazes me!  Every time I call to ask a question, or let them know I need to get more food, they always ask about our dog, how he's doing and how we are as well.  I normally ask if they have something in stock and if they do, I will stop by that afternoon or that week and interestingly, they have it ready in back of the counter without me waiting for it.  Talk about service!  The prices are very reasonable and worth it in my opinion.  Definitely the family friendly vet in Kaimuki!! Service was OK here.  Dr not a good fit for me and my Loki.  I would make comments and the Dr and her assistant would not respond.  At least acknowledge that I said something!  Another instance, i mentioned what other puppy owners have tried on the internet.  She looks over to her assistant, "I've never heard that before".  Excuse me, I am talking to you, not your assistant!  Sorry, if i need better bedside manners. The prices here are much higher than other pet hospitals.  If I had my puppy neutered here, it would've costed me about $100 more (even with Neuter Now certficate).  I also came for a quote on extracting the four canines.  Dr didn't give me an exact quote for removing the canines.  Her price starts at $50 per tooth and she may reduce it depending on how easy the extraction was.  Errr, is that how quotes work?  I show up, you examine my puppy, and you give me a definite price!Yelp steered my wrong on this one! Affordable neutering/spaying; great staff!Like most pet parents our little fur baby means the world to us so when it came time to get her spayed it was a big deal.  Our usual vet charges $700-800 for the surgery and after calling around it seems that's the going rate.Luckily we found Dr. Nicole Tsutahara at the Aina Haina Pet Hospital who accepts neuter now certificates!  Neuter now certificates can be picked up at satellite city hall for $150.  It covers the pre-surgery check up, surgery, and anesthesia.  You can purchase additional things (like bloodwork to make sure your pup will react ok to anesthesia) from the vet if you want.  Dr. Tsutahara was not the most gregarious person but she is great with animals and, ultimately, that's what matters as a veterinarian!  The staff was wonderful, patient, forthcoming, and informative throughout the whole process.  I was especially touched to hear that one technician crawled into our pup's kennel after surgery to comfort and sit with her (our pup loves hugs and probably lured her in with her pitty-me puppy eyes).  They called the day after the surgery to follow up on how she was doing which I thought was nice too!  I absolutely trust Dr. Tsutahara and her wonderful staff and recommend going here if you want great pet care at an affordable rate.*edited because vet accidentally left 2 stitches in when we went to have them removed. My family has been taking all of our dogs to Aina Haina Pet Hospital ever since our first puppy!  That was almost 30 years ago, when Dr. Takayama senior would see my dog.  I remember going there as a little kid, and my dogs always had a great experience.  Back in the day, I recall they used to do dog boarding (I don't know if they still do that because we haven't had to).I was a little sad when they moved to Waialae, it's not THAT much farther of a drive, but Aina Haina was more convenient for us.I've been really lucky to have healthy dogs, who don't require too much outside of the regular check up and very rare medication.  My dogs seem to always have been comfortable visiting this office as well!  Whatever they prescribe in those rare occasions, fixes them up right away!Getting my 4th puppy soon, and will be taking him here as well! In December of 2014, I got my first puppy!  My boyfriend and I visited Aina Haina Pet Hospital for my pup's free first examination (offered through Pet Land Kahala's Puppy Swamp Meet).  Located on Waialae Ave, AHPH is convenient and has their own parking lot consisting of 5 stalls.  At our first visit, the vet was very helpful and patient with answering our questions on feeding amounts, the age of the pup's first bath, and whatever else questions we had.  The whole staff was very friendly and knowledgeable.  One problem that I've been having with my pup Griz (like Grizzly Bear) was that he would cry throughout the night...  &on our way out Jaime gave Griz a cute elephant stuffed animal to help him through the night!  Thus we decided to make Aina Haina Pet Hospital Griz's primary hospital.Been on three checkups so far, &each time Jaime has recognized us, quickly pulled out our file, and got us situated.Amazing service of Aina Haina Pet Hospital's staff has won our loyalty. My parents had gone to Aina Haina Pet Hospital with their cat, and seemed pretty happy with the service there, but I have to say, I am not. Dr. Takayama once looked at a lump on my dog's neck and called it something like "benign tumor", then prescribed some expensive medicine to get rid of it. At the next appointment, he examined it, and seeing it, he didn't appear to remember the prescription, as he called the ex-lump a "skin tag". On another occasion, he insisted on having a part of the dog's eyelid removed, because he thought it was encroaching on her eye (it was actually scar tissue from the cat scratching her when she was a puppy). Just in case, we went through with the surgery, but I have photos that show she's long had that bit of skin and Dr. Takayama took years to notice it. The best part of this place is the staff. They are very understanding, friendly, and helpful. My dog gets incredibly nervous and antsy when she goes to the vet, but the staff members are able to handle her and get along with her very well. Whenever I go to AHPH, I am always happy to see the vet techs and receptionists, and making appointments is absolutely no trouble at all. It's also a good place to get things like flea medicine and dog/cat food, and the staff can help you with that as well--they are very knowledgable. They are the reason I am giving AHPH four stars. I cannot put into words how great they are. Read Less

I've been with Aina Haina Pet Hospital for 11 years now and have always received stellar service from them for all of my animals. When my rott was diagnosed with cancer, Dr. Allen did not fill me unrealistic expectations and told it like it is. A lot of other places fill you with hope for a situation where your animal just suffers and you find your bank account completely drained. On the other hand, he does know when your resources should be used. My cat experienced kidney failure, and his staff did a phenomenal job caring for him, giving him what he needed  and was able to train me on how to administer an IV, feedings etc. He went from being half dead to living a full, healthy life.  My dog also broke her leg, and Dr. Allen provided the surgery and care she needed to recover. Those are just a few of the many situations our animals have gone through in his care. He has never overcharged me for his services and has maintained fair and reasonable prices throughout the years. Having 4 animals with him, I'm at the office regularly and have often experience 'emergency' situations, which he has always been readily available to assist or direct me to someone who can. Dr. Allen also makes it a point to personally call and update you on test results, or maintaining care for your animal. They also have an excellent administrative staff. All of my animals receive regular reminders when they are due for something, and the staff always does follow-up when one of them ishaving an issue. I work very early, and when one of my animals has a procedure, they allow me to do an early drop off at 6am so that I don't have to take off of work.  The office is very clean and sterile, allowing a spacious area for you and your animal to wait for your appointment. Their location is convenient and has a lot of parking as well. Read Less

Don't let the name of the hospital fool you....this place is off Waialae Avenue in Kaimuki.  When we first started going to see Dr. Takayama, his practice was IN Aina Haina.  I'm not sure what prompted the move but in reality...nothing has changed except the location.  STILL the same VET and STAFF.  I must share with you...Dr. Takayama and his staff is WONDERFUL!! I recall an incident when we left without taking the meds prescribed for our furr-kid.  His receptionist (I'm embarrassed to say that I don't know her name) offered to meet us half-way just to give us the meds.  The ladies assisting Dr. Takayama are ALSO wonderful!! They interact with our "kids" like they've been friends forever.  This is a gift and we are so fortunate that our furr-kids have taken so well to all of them.Parking at this location is by far so much better than the previous location.  We no longer live in town but if we did, we'd still be taking out babies there. Unfortunately, the commute is too far and long for an overly anxious Chihuahua terrier mix so we've switched to a vet that is closer to us. Read Less

Our family and pup loves Dr. Takayama and staff. Not only are they professional and honest, they treat their clients as their family.Outside of the normal shots, I've brought my Sheltie in once for a swollen face. They treated it like an emergency and gave me a time that I can come in as soon as possible. Dr. Takayama took a look at him and reassured me that my dog is fine. It was some kind of allergic reaction from a sting. Doctor gave my pup some medicine, and swelling subsided quickly. The sad thing about going to a Pet Hospital is that you see lots of pets who are very sick or recovering. Read Less

Blessed to have met Dr. Nicole and the rest of the Aina Haina Pet Hospital. I have a fur baby Pickles, who I've had to bring in multiple times for various reasons. Recently, my little baby broke his leg and Dr. Nicole saw him immediately. Took him in for immediate surgery even if it meant she had to stay later, along with Vet Technician Robert. I always leave with smiles because I always know my little Pickles is going to be okay. Mahalo Dr. Nicole and Aina Haina Pet Hospital Ohana!

Read Less
