One of my dogs Mocha came here for her cancer that she had. The staff here took great care of her and knew her by name. It was really a lengthy process and it was a lot of money too. We came here monthly with different types of testing and medicine for her. I'm not going to lie. It was draining and time consuming. But it was so worth it. She lived for about a year longer than expected, but after her chemo was over. Her heart started failing. She did have a little bit of her life towards the end where she was just cancer free. It made me happy that she was better. Even for a little bit. 8 months later she passed away. It broke our heart but it was the best thing we could do for her. The staff there was so kind and let us have our moment with her before they took her away. They even made several clay stones with her foot print for us and wrote us a nice card. It still breaks my heart thinking about her. It's been two years already to this day. Read Less

Several years ago I would have written a rave review for Aloha Animal Hospital and Dr. Chang. He was very caring with our cats and they took great care of us. Unfortunately, as the years went by, they became more and more mercenary when it comes to money. The last time we brought our aging cat here, they charged over $500 for tests (which had to be paid up front). Three days later the assistant called to say they had the test results, but they couldn't disclose them to us without another appointment which she said would cost $250. I asked, since when do we pay for tests but the results are not included in the fee we've already paid for? She said this was a new policy and until we could come up with $250, we can't get the test results. With great sadness since we once believed we had a great relationship with Dr. Chang, we had to move on to a different veterinarian. He's good, but we just can't afford it, nor do we agree with this kind of policy. Sorry. Read Less

I moved to Hawaii from San Diego with my little beloved cockatiel in 1991. I lived at the Hilton Lagoon Apartments. Dr. Chang cared for the wonderful exotics on the grounds including birds, penguins, fish and turtles. He also saved the life of my sweet little Cockatiel as the USDA confined her overnight at the airport upon arrival mu h to my dismay. I had bath towels and special food for my little bird. When i picked her up, her food and towels that would cover the carrier and keep her out of drafts and away from the strange sites of the airport were gone as was all her food and water. She was Il from this and quarantined in my apartment at the Lagoon Apartments and Dr. Chang kindly nursed her back to health. A few months later, a little wild baby bird was on my windshield when I came out of the condos on Ena and Kalakaua months later. Dr. Chang lovingly put up with a neurotic lady who hand fed that sweet little bird who became my best friend for 13 years. When i had to leave the islands, my little friend traveled with me to Albuquerque and then Las Vegas where I worked for many years as a paralegal after my husband left me. My little bird actually went to work with me from time to time and not one person could believe he was from Hawaii. Luckily President Clinton shut down the Federal government for a short time in 1995 and off I flew back to the main land where my ex husband left me totally alone and terrified and very very sick. But I had my birds. They were my family and I was blessed to find wonderful vets both in Albuquerque and Las Vegas but without Dr. Chang I never would have had my tiny bird who gave me so much love and joy. There is only one Dr. Chang and I hope to one day thank him again in person for saving not only my Cockatiel and little Brazilian Cardinal (yes I did get official certification allowing me to keep him) but also my very humble self. I believe Dr. Chang is an angel.and I will forever hold him in my heart for the wonderful veterinary skill and understanding of the connection between humans and animals both large and tiny. Thank you, Dr. Chang for being all you are and all you do for feathered and furry beloved pets that enrich our lives and bless the earth. I am forever in your debt. Read Less

After taking my sick kitty to VCA Pearl City over the weekend and her condition not improving, I decided to come back to Aloha Animal Hospital where Dr. Chang saved my kitty, Gigi's life when she was just a newborn with an emergency surgical procedure. This time, she was very lethargic, hadn't been eating for a week or having any bowel movements. VCA said she only had an infection and that she should be better the next day but that was 3 days ago now.  Dr. Chang is caring, very knowledgeable, and funny!!! He really takes the time to let you know about what is happening with your pet. Gigi stayed there for a total of 3 nights and was also cared for by Dr. Jeter, who is also an extremely nice and thorough doctor.  Leanne and Cassie, I believe that was their names, are the technicians we saw the most and they are AMAZING, they are so nice and took great care of Gigi.Received a call after the 3rd night and was told that they were able to get the bloodwork done early in the morning and that Gigi could come home. Her numbers went down more than Dr. Chang and Dr. Jeter had hoped. Dr. Chang and his team performed another MIRACLE and I cannot thank them enough. Gigi is back to normal, drinking, eating, using the restroom, and back to her energetic self!!!  :)MAHALO again to Aloha Animal Hospital!!! Read Less

Dr. Chang and his staff have always given our senior dog kind and loving care. He always took the time to discuss all alternatives, treatments and answered every question. His staff is very efficient, professional and knowledgeable. When she had to be euthanized, they went out of their way to be sensitive, compassionate and to explain my options. They even memorialized her by creating a heart-shaped clay impression of her paws that was included with her remains and I received a most heartfelt and thoughtful sympathy card. Have had repeated instances of poor care here,  don't know why we gave them a second chance. First, we believed our grown lab was hapai so we took her in, they wanted to ultrasound and/or xray her. We asked if there was a blood test, which they said didn't exist, again pushing expensive tests. Took her to another vet who did the  $25 (v. $200+) blood test. Then our 6 month old pup hurt her toe, took her in and they said it would be $440 for exam, xrays, sedation and splinting, then called when she was being sedated saying, oops they made a mistake and didn't include  an xray, doctor time and day patient charge (who even knows what that's supposed to be for) and now it's going to be $210 more.  AND we needed to come back muktiple times over next 6 weeks for further follow-up and new splints (who knows what those charges would add up to). In the end, turns out splinting not even effective treatment as she ate off splint within days. Would NOT recommend this vet to anyone. Read Less

A few years ago, I would have given Aloha Animal Hospital 4 stars but their carelessness and poor customer service has lost them a patient.  I brought in my rabbit for skin growths and Dr. Chang recommended the growths be removed and biopsied.  I didn't hear from the office after a few weeks; so I called to check on the results.  I called repeatedly and was continually evaded by staff, which made me believe that the results must be bad if I needed to wait to speak with someone.  I finally connected with Dr. Chang, and he let me know that the problem was that the sample or the results were lost and they couldn't yet track them down.  I told him that was something that should have been explained to me on the phone so I didn't have to worry and stress getting a hold of him... but instead of apologizing for the the way anyone handled the situation, he defended his staff by saying that they just didn't know what to do.  How about just being honest?!  No one told me that Dr. Chang was out of the office either... I just kept getting, "someone will call you back later" and no one did.  Dr. Chang also said that he would call me back in a day or two as he hoped to locate the sample or result and that he would credit me the cost of the biopsy... another week went by and no one called me.  I called the office again and was told that the Dr. would call me when he was done with his patient.  I finally received a check for what they charged for the biopsy since it was never done but I still had to pay for the "surgical" procedure to remove the growth and have lost faith in this clinic.  Very poor service. It's unfortunate that I have to write this review. I've been a customer of Aloha Animal Hospital for 2.5 years and I chose them based on their AAHA credential. Each year I've felt that the quality of service has gone down. And recently I used them to board my 2 dogs. Without any announcement or posted notice they raised their boarding fee's by 100% from a year ago--far more than what other places in town are even charging. So when I checked out I was in shock that I was paying $120/day to board two small dogs. I'm writing this as a notice for others to make sure they ask pricing before they commit to any service from Aloha since I was in complete shock as I checking out.  I've since changed vets to Kahala Animal Hospital b/c even though they are a tad more in cost for regular services, the boarding fees are fair and the vets and techs are amazing. I "saved" a baby bird that was abandoned by its mother. I say save in quotation marks only because so many people who try to do what I did have good intentions but end up causing more harm than good. If you see a baby bird, put it back in a tree or hidden bush. The mother will come back (even if a human touched it) and if it doesn't, unless you are totally prepared to raise this new bird 24/7 for several weeks (if not months, years), sometimes it's okay to let nature take its course. To make a long story short, my cat was able to get to the bird and attacked it. I took it to Dr. Chang who not only wrapped it's tiny broken leg, but was able to give me a wealth of information on the best way to raise the bird. Just as I was coming to terms with the fact that this bird was going to be my baby, another incident happened the very next day. The bird started scratching the back of his head and neck to the point where you could see his scalp and tendon. He was bleeding profusely. I took it back to Dr. Chang and he honestly told me he couldn't understand why my bird was doing this. He told me that he could surgically stitch the wound but he couldn't guarantee that my bird wouldn't go at it again. The only way to ensure it wouldn't was to literally restrain his legs for several weeks as both his broken leg and open head wound healed. Even then, he couldn't guarantee that the bird would survive.Dr. Chang was informative, deeply supportive, and surprisingly philosophical on the options that I could take. We realized that euthanasia was probably the best route for the little guy who suffered a lot. I started crying hard because this bird had been by my side almost 24/7 for the last two weeks and right when I was teaching him to fly, he was suddenly going to die.Not once was I made to feel ashamed for my tears. Dr. Chang even asked to give me a hug after it was all over, showing me that even for a stray bird, he actually cared. I can't thank Dr. Chang and his staff enough for the genuine concern and support they gave. Read Less

I brought my cat in for surgery, which I'd had scheduled for over a month. I was still having reservations about whether to do it so he sat down with me and discussed it in detail, letting me know I could cancel it if I wanted. We must have talked 30 minutes about it. That is the kind of person you want to give your business. He even hugged me when I left. I also really appreciate how the staff handles my pet. She is a ripe old saucey cat, claws and biting and growling and kicking, but they stay super cool and gentle with her. Bottom line: you won't find a better vet's office. On this island or anywhere. Aloha Animal left me with mixed feelings. They're awesome with emergencies, especially with animals other than cats/dogs. They were the only clinic I knew that would take rabbits in on an emergency basis. Dr. Chang took extremely good care of my rabbit, twice, when he was very sick. However, I took my dog in because she was gimp. I took her in on Monday afternoon, only to be told I needed an appointment or they can take her in as "emergency" for a fee of $120. Whoa! I knew of the fee, however, I also know that you can "schedule" a last minute appt., which the offered me when I came in with my rabbit. They did not offer me that option this time around. Since I did not think my dog's condition was dire, I made an appt. for the following day for 10:30 am with Dr. Ganzer. I showed up about 5-7 minutes late, only to be told "the vet is in surgery". WHAT?! I did not receive a phone call for them notifying me of this at all! And did that mean the vet was ONLY going to check my dog for five minutes? And the receptionist had me reschedule for later that afternoon, casually, expecting it. (As if I have time to be catering to them all day.)Instead of returning, I went to a different veterinarian clinic, who was much nicer, affordable, and faster. I am NEVER taking my dogs to Aloha ever again. Read Less

We have been patients of Aloha Animal hospital for about a year and a half now.  We have been to various vets in town seeking treatment for our dog and this place is the best by far.  We have seen Dr. Chang, Dr. Fujitani, and Dr. Ganzer, and all three are knowledgeable professionals with a good "bedside manner" for both pets and their owners.  All three take the time to explain in detail what is going on with your pet, what causes any problems, how and why they will treat them a certain way, etc.  The staff of vet techs who assist them are no less excellent, and all exhibit professionalism and a love for animals which is evident in their interactions. The facility is clean and well run and seems capable of dealing with everything from routine to more complex issues.  Case in point: we ended up here seeking treatment for my dog's inhalant allergies which had been misdiagnosed and deemed untreatable by other vets on the island.  The doctors at VCA even told us it might be cancer (which freaked out my wife) and offered a $1000 biopsy to check it out which we luckily declined.  Dr. Chang was able to diagnose the allergy and give us good tips on treating it.  They also have animal allergy specialists who fly in from the mainland a couple times a year who can do allergy tests ($500) which we did and then allergy shots ($150/month) which we started then gave up on because we didn't see much results.Anyway point being this clinic is highly recommended and provides five star care.  Unfortunately I have to give it four stars because it is so darn expensive.  We may have to stop going there for this reason.  Just today I was in for a broken toenail my dog sustained at the dog park and was charged a whopping $117 for clipping off the broken nail, bandaging it up, and giving me 5 doggie pain pills.  All staff involved were excellent and my experience today was hugely positive, but still I think that is too much to pay based on what was needed to treat the injury. If you are wealthy and live in Aina Hina/Kahala/Diamond Head area then this is the vet for you.  If you are a regular person who wants to spoil your pet with the best care possible this is the place for you.  If you are a regular person trying to balance your budget with good treatment of your animal there might be other options. My loving 6 yr old Tibetan Spaniel Sasha was having some pain near her back end this past weekend. I immediately turned to Yelp to aide in my quest for a reputable vet or animal hospital. It was a Sunday, so my options were a bit limited. Even though Sasha seemed okay for the most part -- wagging her tail, kissing my face, playing, etc. -- I still wanted her to get checked. It could have been a fluke or maybe she tweaked something from rough housing with my kitty... Either way, better safe than sorry.Aloha Animal Hospital Associates is open from 9am-4pm on Sundays!! I called, and they fit me right in for the first appointment Monday morning at 9am.Granted, Sasha would be seeing a newer associate Dr. Ganzer... But the receptionist assured me of his thorough and efficient nature. (Whew!)Monday couldn't have come soon enough.Got to Aloha Animal Hospital Associates a little before Sasha's scheduled appointment to fill out the necessary paperwork. *AAHA is near the Chinese Restaurant Golden Duck, across from Kahala Mall. (Look for AAHA's blue sign.)Anyway, I was very pleased with the overall visit. Dr. Ganzer was more than pleasant and thorough. He checked every bit of her -- eyes, ears, mouth & teeth, neck, paws, legs, tail, and spine. He let me know his opinions and possible options. I went with the option of "everything," or in other words, x-rays, rest, and pain meds for my baby. The x-rays were done quickly and Dr. Ganzer went over every inch of the 2 views.Dr. Ganzer was great with the education portion of the visit; he explained EVERYTHING every step of the way. :) I was never left in the dark. Dr. Ganzer was truly an excellent choice and I'm looking forward to establishing him as Sasha's regular vet. Thorough, empathetic, sympathetic, efficient, caring, and nice -- these are the qualities all vets should have and I'm so thankful Sasha and I came across Dr. Ganzer. And even though I ended up paying $360 at AAHA on that Monday morning, I don't feel cheated. Not one bit. You can't put a price on an experience like this one (thorough and efficient). I am very pleased to say the least. Thank you Dr. Ganzer and AAHA staff :)Yelp 365 - #186/365 Read Less

Read Less

Read Less

That is the kind of person you want to give your business. He even hugged me when I left. I also really appreciate how the staff handles my pet.
