Animal Hospital of Hawaii might well be the best vet on this island. We have taken our pets to this vet for three decades. We followed the company when they closed shop in Kaimuki and moved to their current Kapahulu location, maybe 15 years ago? We have trusted our animals here from birth to death - and we have never been disappointed in the care they receive. If you are looking for a vet that really cares about your animals, this is the one. If you're looking for a cheap vet - this is not the one. Read Less

YES, it was $10 microchip month of August (last year, 2010), but if that's a reason for you to be like that, don't even participate. They are NOT helphul, NOT friendly, and NOT PROFESSIONAL!!! When we moved here form the mainland, we needed to identify a vet for our dog even though were did the direct release program (no quarentine). Our choice was limited by the "approved" list and we were picking relatively blind (these were the dark days before I discovered Yelp). The Animal Hospotal of Hawaii looked good (nice website, nice pictures) and Dr Kau seemed well qualified - he takes care of the police dogs, In his bio it says "Formerly the Chief of Medical & Surgical services of a large group practice, he now enjoys a more personal interaction with clients, patients and staff.."As soon as the whole family arrived, we made a routine appointment for Tigger, since she needs perscription dog food. Dr. Kau was a bit abrupt and seemed "put out" by our questions, but Tigger had her annual exam, got her vaccines, and we bought perscription dog food. Tigger didn't like the brand they carried, so I called around to find a vet with her old brand. This other vet needed our vet's appoval to sell us the dog food. I called Animal Hospital of Hawaii and they said "we're not your vet, call your mainland vet." You're not our vet???? What was that annual exam? What were all those annual shots? What was that charge for "records transfer"? What did we pay you $225 for? We're suppose to call a mainland vet that hasn't seen Tigger in 6 months? We now go to the VCA hospital on Woodlawn. They are so much better. Read Less
