I called to inquire about cost of treatment in order to fly domestically with Delta Airlines with my puppy and the receptionist has to be the most special person I have EVER spoken too! She kept telling me what I needed when I have Delta’s specific requirements. Your employees represent your company so hire capable ones!! This receptionist needs training on basic speaking skills, phone skills, and customer service. Wow she couldn’t answer any of my questions, couldn’t break down charges of services I needed, couldn’t take my name and number down in case there was a cancellation so I could come in sooner. Yes your service fees maybe less expensive, but that doesn’t help when your employees can’t close the deal or even set up an appointment to get the business in the door. This is perhaps the busiest vet clinic in Honolulu. It's also a budget-friendly clinic, but there are certain trade-offs...no fancy waiting area, no computerized billing, no flashy website. You watch the staff move from patient to patient with surprising precision given their small space; waits can be long, even for appointments, but the prices are undoubtedly the best we have for both routine and emergency treatments. My extended ohana has come here for decades because of Dr. Jayne and her staff. Dr. Jayne's been both assistant vet and now primary vet for a host of dogs and cats from adoptions to births to deaths. We came here because of the convenient location and remain here because the staff is as much ohana as the pets. In spite of the hectic pace, they take the time to answer questions to the point where paying the bill is part of the waiting game, too. It's easy to give negative reviews after a visit; certainly everyone has their own perception of each incident. But I've never known this place to intentionally rip someone off or mislead a pet parent. I've heard my share of clients go off on strange invoicing tangents and listened to the techs say one thing while owners mangle the instructions/explanations to the point where I want to smack them upside their head for not -listening-.We're all pet parents seeking the best care for our "kids" that we can afford. We forget sometimes it's about the animals, which are the ones on whom Dr. Jayne and her staff focus. I don't see anything wrong with that. I don't need 5-star treatment, just 5-star care for my pets. Blue Cross delivers this, in my opinion. Read Less

Blue Cross has seriously stepped up their game in the past few years. Our last dog came here as a puppy and throughout her old age. She passed a few years ago (bless her) and I hadn't been here in a while.  Sure, it was a bit dirty/smelly before but the price was unbeatable. Now? This place is SPOTLESS! It's so clean and doesn't smell at all! We were pleasantly surprised since we hadn't been here in a really long time. Our new pup got all her vaccinations here and it was extremely affordable. Her heartworm and flea meds are also extremely affordable. I also really appreciate their walk-in hours because you never know with pets, sometimes you need someone to look at them right away and you can't pay premiums by taking them to the emergency vet because your normal vet is booked. They've also given me advice over the phone, which was extremely helpful. The staff is really sweet and always gives treats to my pup. You can tell they all really love animals. They're a bit busy though so don't be surprised if they put you on hold when you call, they'll always get back to you.We also got reminder cards in the mail for our pup's appointments! I don't know if that's new or it was just because we hadn't been here in a while but that was extremely appreciated. Prices are SO great, your wallet will be happy. Pets are definitely not cheap but if you can cut down on medical costs without cutting corners, it's definitely worth it. AND if you make an appointment you don't even have to wait. I'm so happy to be taking my cat to Dr. Alison Jayne and her staff!!They only have a couple stalls on their property, but there is always metered street parking, so bring your coins! They do take walk ins, but there is a wait since it is first come first serve and walk ins are only within certain hours. You can also make an appointment, but I think they are booked.I used to go to another animal clinic, and unfortunately my old vet retired. And the vet that took over was too fancy and prices were a little higher with all his fancy gadgets and well...he had his student loan to pay off. So I was looking for an "old school" vet, and low and behold I found one!! Prices are reasonable since there's no fancy TV or stereo system...just a vet clinic!! If you want spa treatment for your animal, this is not the place for you! If you're looking for a good experienced vet and experienced techs at a reasonable price, then this is the place to come!! Like I said...nothing fancy! Us old people like that! We don't want to pay for some vet's student loan or their fancy clinic...we just want a good experienced vet!I also noticed the times I've come to the office, most dogs are small to medium sized and pretty well behaved. Since I have a cat, I feel comfortable coming here because the times I've come, there weren't large barking drooling dogs like the other clinic I used to go to. I think the other clinic I went to, my cat ( passed away under that vet's watch) was stressed out being boarded there with all the large barking dogs, and I feel really bad for leaving her there.I remember when I was standing in line at Blue Cross, this older man said to me "I like coming to this place because...look around and what do you see." I looked around puzzled at what he wanted me to look for. Then I looked at him with a puzzled look and he said "I like coming here because there's nothing! No fancy computers, no fancy TVs...just a vet and staff! That's why their prices are reasonable!"So if you're looking for an "old school" vet, come check out Blue Cross Animal Hospital! Thanks to Dr. Alison Jayne and staff because now my cat is doing a lot better!By the way, they only take cash or credit cards! No personal checks! Read Less

1st The employees at the front desk were very rude. They did not explain the process well at all. I was told once I arrived and checked in to check back in one hour to see where my pet was in line. When doing so I was told to check back on another hour. After speaking in length with the initial employee over the phone she told me to try back in 30 mins. I said ok but since I was parked at a "meter" just outside, I walked back into the lobby I suppose unoticed by the initial employee and what quickly became known as a very unprofessional female veterinarian. They discussed my concern and then the veterinarian loudly said oh well "They can wait their turn"... ***Now lets be clear... I had no problem waiting once I found out the prophet procedure. But to walk in on that type of response from what is supposed to be a professional is rather appalling. I expect that from the help. 2nd There is not adequate parking for u to have to continue to wait for hours at the time. You continue to feed a meter 3rd The sanitation of the place is extremely poor. It smells when you walk in and there is pet hair everywhere. Its constantly landing on my face and body while sitting here... **** None of the employees seem to want to be at work. They all seem very bitter as if they are being forced to work here. I DONT RECOMMEND THIS DUMP TO ANYONE!!! Im sure there are much better places on the island. I only brought this pet here for a friend to get a travel certificate she had already pre paid for prior to leaving the island. Ill gladly pay for customer service ANY DAY and u won't get any of that here for sure! Read Less

I have been going to blue cross for over 15 years. I've taken all my pets here over the years. Dr. Jayne always remembers each one of my dogs. We have 4. She knows each one's temperament as well as personality. We recently got their annual check ups done here. We will be boarding them this summer so everyone needs to be up to date on all shots. I would recommend making an appointment a month out. They are very busy. This time we did a walk in. Instead of waiting a couple hours there the receptionist said we can check in and come back. Which SAVES so much time. She gave us an approximate time when to come back and urged us to call before and see where we were in line before making the trip back to Blue Cross. PERFECT. I checked in, we left, ran errands, and came back just before it was our turn to be seen. I recommend doing this always if there is a long line ahead of you. Dr. Jayne is very knowledgeable and is always friendly and pleasant. This vet hospital is very different in regards to others as I have always felt that their prices for medicines and services were fair. I have tried other places in the past, have spent thousands of dollars, and have felt gouged and taken advantage of. Other places have no problem giving you a bill for $2700 like it's no big deal. I have never felt like Blue Cross is in it for the money. But actually cares about the well being of my pets. When one of our elderly dogs got very ill, she had a tumor in her stomach, Dr. Jayne explained every route we could take to try to get her better and what could possibly happen. This is what I look for in a vet. Read Less

I worked here in the early-mid 80s. It was always more reasonably priced, and lower-tech than most. However, it doesn't take a lot of "tech" to board a dog or a cat. In my time there, the animals were always treated well, bedding changed daily or more often if needed, special diets followed, whole place mopped down with disinfectant daily, kennels hosed down, etc. It's in an old funky 1930s or maybe even 1920s building, but it was clean. My poor kitty didn't look too well and wasn't eating so my mom had taken him to the vet. Turns out he had liver failure so he had to stay 5 whole nights. I am a little on the fence about having my pet stay at the vet because of a personal experience with my other pets. My cat stayed for 4 nights instead of 5 because he was doing so well. Visiting hours are either 10-5 or 11-4 depending on the day. I normally asked what their hours were when I left to make sure I came within their visiting hours. The front desk ladies are very nice! They remembered me after coming once and answered all my questions. They were also very comforting because I was always so sad to see him and leave him there. The cage that my cat stayed in was fairly large. Enough for him to walk around. We were able to leave a blanket with him so he knew we would come back for him.I don't know if this is just me being a little overprotective of my cat, but I wished they would've kept cats in one section and dogs in another. My cat was next to a loud barking dog and when I visited, he seemed very agitated. The facility looks very old, but as long as they get the job done and take care of the pets, that's no problem! My cat is home and back to himself. We are so glad we got him to the vet for early detection of the liver failure. Now my family and I are able to help him with medicine and monitor him. Yay! Unless you're making $300/hour then sit your ass down and expect to wait. I worked for a pharmaceutical vet company and when I see the cost most vets on the island charge, it's horrendous. Blue cross animal hospital is hardly making a dime to stay open yet pay their staff so be appreciative. They are obviously working there for the love of animals, not to become rich so have a heart or go somewhere else, it's as simple as that. If you feel your time is worth a lot then wait because if you can save yourself $500 by visiting the vet at this place, then think of it as paying yourself that money, for what, people and animal watching, heck I'm up for that any day, better than watching tv. Good if you don't want to wait, more open appointments for my friends and family who are more than willing to tip staff for their low cost of professional service. And remember treat others the way you want to be treated. Read Less

Blue cross animal hospital misrepresented the services they administered to my dog. I called on 2 different occasions and my husband also called on 1 occasion to ask if they administer the PennHip exam. Every time we called, the answer was, "Yes". I went in for a pre-exam and spoke with the Veteranian at Blue Cross (Dr. Jayne) in person and we set up an appointment for her to do the PennHip assessment. The first time we dropped our dog off, the exam took so long before they got started that we ended up rescheduling. Very poor scheduling/customer arrive/ communication as other customers write about. We rescheduled for a different day to do the "PennHip" exam. We went back a third time and it wasn't until it was time to pay for the services that we were told for the first time after several phone calls and a in-person visit and 2 subsequent appointments that the Blue Cross does NOT do the PennHip exam. It was a different exam. This was the first time they informed us that the actual service we took our dog there for was not performed. We paid almost $400 for the wrong exam!! Our complaint is that the services performed were misrepresented and we were charged significant money for the wrong exam. Also, we paid for additional X-rays and 1 slide was lost. We were charged for a slide we could not verify. The vet lost an X-ray that cost $60!Ridiculous experience all around. This vet is a loser. Read Less

My poor tita is not feeling well today.  I called and left a message and was asking for an appointment.  I really appricate that they called back to confirm my apppontment.  Iv'e walked in before and didn't have to wait too long.  I love that you get to meet other animal owners as well.  I was greated with a smile and Aloha! I have saved a lot of money bringing my little ones here at the Blue Cross Animal Hospital.  I appricate that they could give me the price that it would cost to bring my tita in today.  I also asked if they carrier medicine for tick and flea's and she said they  have something new for her to take orally and it will work faster.  I am so excited for my baby as I take her for her 10:30 am appointment, and I will be their first walk in with an appointment. Mahalo for the information I needed and for the kind phone call confirmation. Read Less

Read Less
