Before I brought my cat here, she had never once had an issue at the vet. She infact used to purr when they would examine her! But for some reason she HATED this place. They told me sometimes cats change as they age and become stressed more easily, so of course I trusted the so called "experts." Boy was I wrong to do so!Every time she would get upset about a visit they would require me to have her sedated, and of course, I believed they truly needed to, because I was told they had tried everything imaginable before doing so. But the other day, I took her in to get a health certificate since we are moving back to the mainland. And they said that she seems fine in her carrier, but as soon as they take her out she starts to hiss, growl, and wants to attack them. Since she seems to be protective of her carrier, i thought that allowing her to be alone in the exam room for a while alone, letting her come out of the carrier on her own terms may help her to be less defensive. So i suggested to at least TRY this once to avoid the sedation, which gets pricey over time & isn't the best thing for my cat since then i have to board her there overnight which she hates! But they refused to even give this a shot! Doesn't seem like people who have the cats best interest at heart! Now let me also say that she is declawed, so its not even like she could scratch them if this failed. They just couldn't be inconvenienced. Now this pissed me off, but since this was the last visit she would ever have with them I let it go, paid for the sedation, and vowed to find a better vet once i moved back to the mainland! Now after all this, Dr. Belcher, had prescribed her an anti-anxiety medication for her for the flight as I had requested some sort of med or light sedative for the flight. She had done fine with this on the move out to hawaii, but as a precaution he wanted me to test this on her two days later to ensure her reaction was okay. Now my appointment was on Thursday, so on Saturday we tested the medication. And her reaction was not good, so this clearly was not the right medication for her! Monday was the next day they were open, so I called and told the receptionist what had happened, and said we needed to try a new medication before I took her on my flight was on Wednesday. She said that Dr. Blecher was on vacation now and would not return for a month! But that Dr. Sylvester was there and she would talk to her about what happened then give me a call back. The receptionist called back to inform me that Dr. Sylvester did not "believe" in giving pets who are riding in cargo any medication! And refused to find a better suited medication for her! And since Dr. Blecher was on vacation, and they refused to call him, she had full authority on the matter! So my response was "So pretty much she's saying that I'm s**t out of luck right?! Either I have a needy cat who's medicated or i have one thats freaked the hell out!"I explained there was not much time since I was leaving in 2 days and needed to get this sorted out. But she said there was no way that she was going to change her mind! This was an absolutely ridiculous decision, due to the fact the other doctor had been TOTALLY OK with her having medication! But because Dr. Sylvester "didn't want to" she was quite literally making my decision for me because its what she didn't "believe was right." There was no health concerns regarding my cat from the other vet, yet somehow she didn't care, because she now had the power since he was gone. What sort of practice are you running that your doctors don't give a crap about what the other one had previously cleared?! Not only that but they would bother to call him or even consult his opinion!? Thats great teamwork.... Now when I told the receptionist this was the last straw with them, &I would be telling yelp how they had treated me, & this was horrible care for my pet. She said "Ok thank you bye!" in a smarty pants tone of voice and hung up! I made an appointment at The Honolulu Pet clinic to have a doctor see her to get the medication for the flight the following day. And guess what I found out when the doctor walked in... it was Dr. Belcher!! He was NOT on vacation, but was a rotating vet for different offices! The Cat Clinic had told me a big fat LIE! He said he had spoke to the Cat Clinic this morning & had heard what happened with my cat and asked why he hadn't been called! He quickly switched the medication & apologized for how I had been treated so poorly at the Cat Clinic! He said they knew exactly where he was working & that they had told me a blatant lie!Now I have nothing but good things to say about Dr.Blecher he was helpful & kind. And to top it off, my cat was a perfect angel at the Honolulu Pet Clinic... so clearly it was a problem with the Cat Clinic... my cat never changed over time like they claimed! The way the Cat Clinic treated me and my cat is APPALLING!
