I had an appointment with Dr. lam today at 1200. I called at 12:15 to see if he was running late only to find that his phone was off and a message stating he was on the mainland from the 1st - 12th. My puppy was supposed to receive her 3rd vaccination. A phone call to reschedule would have been sufficient but for me to come home and wait for him to find he is off island is just not good business etiquette. Read Less

Dr Lam is terrific! Was desparate to find a mobile service for my dad's aging dog. Hard to transport because had hip dysplasia and snaps if try to carry him.  Couldn't leave Dad alone to take dog to vet.  Searched the Web and found Dr Lam. Super reasonable prices for a mobile service,  and almost equivalent to some pricey vets like the VCAA in Pearl City.  Dr Lam very knowledgeable,  informative,  calm,  smart,  problem solver, realistic, compassionate,  animal lover most definitely.  Will continue to see him. Worth the slightly higher cost for my dad's older canine with special needs.  If you have the same limitations and love your dog,  call him!  We had an urgent need and he answered the call. Dr. Lam (Lamb) is a cute name for a vet! My cat doesn't travel well so she had not seen a vet for 7 years. Dr. Lam arrived only a few hours after my call. Kitty liked him and his rates were reasonable. $120 included travel time and 2 series of antibiotics. If you hate the trauma of toting a sick pet in your car, this is the way to go. Read Less

We are a military family and are currently living in a hotel as we out process.  We needed to have our dogs and cat vaccinated but couldn't get to our usual vet.  Dr. Lam came to our hotel in Waikiki on a Sunday, vaccinated our three pets and did heart worm tests on our dogs.  It really helped us a great deal to have someone come to us instead of us having to move everyone.  Also Dr. Lam was really patient and took time to answer our questions.  He didn't rush through the appointment which was great!  He made it clear that if anything seemed wrong with our pets, call him immediately and he'd come right back and exam them again for free.  That was reassuring!Because Dr. Lam works alone, you need to be prepared to be his assistant, so have your pets favorite treats and a couple towels to hold your pets with on hand! Last Saturday night, we had to make that difficult decision to put our 12 year old Rottweiler Pono to sleep.  I came home from work and he was laying in the same spot as when I left in the morning.  He was still eating and drinking but he had no interest in sitting up and he would not let me hold or help him.  The only thing Pono would do was nudge my hand to scratch his head. Which is what he always did whenever he wanted his head scratched.  It was late and we couldn't let him suffer through the night.  We called around to several places but everyone said that we had to get him to their facility in order to help us.  I was searching Yelp and came across Dr. Lam.  I called him and he returned our call in about 20 minutes.  I explained our problem to him and he said that he will be over in about 30 minutes.  When he arrived, he explained what the process was and what to expect.  He continued to explain each step as he was gathering his equipment.  After he administered the sedative, Pono just put his head down and went to sleep.  Dr. Lam told us to take all the time we needed to say good bye to Pono.  When we were ready, Dr. Lam administered the final medication to Pono. (This we couldn't watch)After Dr. Lam confirmed Pono's passing, he made an imprint of Pono's paw in clay.  Dr. Lam made a stressful situation easier to deal with.5 stars and  for your professional, caring and compassionate bedside manner. It is my first time owning a dog and despite the research I've put into vaccination schedules, heart worm medication, flea medicine, regulations on dog licensing and microchipping, no amount of research has prepared me for when my dog Sunnie finally came home with me. She is energetic, smart, and very sweet.I want the best for her and had lots of questions about which vaccinations she should take yearly, which medicine she should take monthly, and general questions about the overall well being of my dog. So I emailed Dr. Lam and scheduled a day for him to come to my apartment. I was initially nervous but when he arrived, I was pleasantly surprised. Very kind and easy going guy. I was surprised by his caring demeanor. I original pictured him to be stern and serious, but he was very professional and kind about answering all my questions and explaining everything carefully so I would not misunderstand. He was very kind to Sunnie and she greeted him very happily and even sat in his lap as he went over her vaccination records with me. Very embarrassing to say this, but I have a small studio and didn't have chairs to sit on except for a bed. He didn't seem to mind sitting on the carpet and explaining things to me as Sunnie played with his feet. He was able to identify that one of Sunnie's vaccinations was not administered properly (the lepto vaccination is supposed to be administered 2 doses 3-4 weeks apart for it to be effective)  My dog only received the lepto vaccine shot once by one of her former owners who was supposed to have taken her in again 4 weeks later to receive another lepto shot. Good catch, Dr. Lam! He was prepared and readily able to give her a lepto vaccine and even scheduled an appointment for him to come back and give her the second lepto shot about 3 weeks in advance. He advised me on heart worm and flea medicine and explained the frequency that my dog should take each tablet. He brought with him in his big truck, a supply of heart worm medicine and flea medicine and I was able to purchase a year's worth and even received a rebate for both the Sentinel and Bravecto. Additionally, he saw that Sunnie still retained one of her baby teeth which should be removed as it causes teeth rotting problems. I only spent about $280 for the entire session. $30 house call, a year supply of sentinel and bravecto, a lepto vaccination, a wellness check and some consultation over her diet, vaccination schedule, and medication schedule--this was pretty cheap compared to going to an actual pet clinic. Dr. Lam is definitely for pet owners who are tight on money and need to have their initial pet wellness check, first set of vaccinations, or any consultation or questions you want to have answered. This guy seriously deserves more credit than he actually gets. He definitely needs people to write good Yelp reviews about him. Read Less

This is a late review.  We called Dr. Lam one Saturday afternoon earlier this year to see our 13-year old dachshund who had somehow injured his back and could not walk without what appeared to be excruciating pain.  Dr. Lam said he could come to our house after his appointment in the country.  He showed up late that night and was able to confirm our dog's condition and give us some medication (pain killer and muscle relaxant).  He did not have a supply of additional medication recommended so he drove back to our house a few days later to drop it off at no additional charge.  Our dog is fully recovered thanks to Dr. Lam.  I would fully recommend him to anyone without reservation! Our dog's time had come.  Of course it was a difficult decision, but we knew our friend was in pain and couldn't do the things he enjoyed.  He didn't like to go to the vet's office and we owed it to him to make his last moments with us as comfortable as possible.  So we called Dr. Lam to come to our house to let him go.Dr. Lam was running a little late due to traffic and called us to let us know.  It's always good when a business does that.  After he arrived, he explained the procedure and what would happen to our buddy. He assured us that it would be painless and quick.We set up on the couch with Tozer's head on my wife's lap. When we were ready, Dr Lam gently administered the drugs and Tozer simply went to sleep.  (Too bad he didn't have anything to calm us!)  It was comforting to see how restful Tozer looked.Dr Lam arranged for the cremation and removed the body.  There were several options from burial in your yard to cremation.  You can have the ashes returned to you.We are very glad we said goodbye at our house and that Dr Lam did the procedure.  It was a blessing to have Tozer go in our arms at his home.  I'm crying now, but I'm glad I wrote this to help others in the same situation. It is very rare to come across someone as caring and genuine as Dr. Lam. He has made a dozen or so house calls to our home in Haleiwa to take care of our 4 dogs as well as our littler of puppies last year. Dr. Lam has been such a blessing to our entire family. When the littler of puppies arrived, there were complications. Dr. Lam went above and beyond and spent hours upon hours with us to make sure we had everything we needed to save the puppies. Without Dr. Lam we would have lost the entire litter, but because of his intelligence and kind heart the puppies thrived. Just as everyone else has mentioned, Dr. Lam's prices are a fraction of what you would expect, especially considering the level of care he provides.He is also very accommodating to your schedule and the animals love him. Our dog Sparky has always had difficulty with vet visits. When he got near the vet's doorway, he would start to hyperventilate & become so anxious we could hardly control him (& he is only 20 lbs). Vet visits were not enjoyable to say the least.  We received a referral to Dr. Walter Lam who recently visited our home & gave Sparky his yearly exam.  Sparky loved Dr. Lam right away & was so relaxed with him. After the exam was over, Sparky still stayed close to him. Dr. Lam was so kind and caring with him. Euthanizing your pet will never be a easy task.. But I don't think it could have gone any more peaceful without Dr.Lam, he came to our house (especially since we could not carry our St.Bernard without causing more pain to him) did a complete assessment, and painlessly assisted our family dog to sleep. So I saw a sign for a mobile vet on the car of a co-worker and inquired because I had never heard of one before...turns out my co-worker is Dr. Lam's sister and so I went online and read the reviews....I felt confident so I made an appointment...it was quick and effortless...Dr. Lam is very accommodating to your schedule.Since I'm working and going to night school I scheduled my Baby's appointment for 8:00 pm. When Dr. Lam came through the door my Baby instantly liked him...usually she lays in a submissive pose and pees but she greeted him like he was her new best friend!My Baby had a heartworm blood test (turned out negative--so thankful), a check up, and I bought a years supply of heartworm medicine...our bill was under $200! Unheard of!  I wish I knew of Dr. Lam earlier!The heartworm test took ten long minutes to develop and Dr. Lam was genuinely concerned about the outcome and just as relieved as I was when it turned out negative...so caring!He discussed possibly purchasing pet medical insurance, Hibiclens baths for her skin problem and recommended two vet hospitals she can get her teeth cleaned at because she will need general anesthesia.  Dr. Lam will be back in two days to update her boosters. Dr. Lam is AWESOME.  My King Cavalier seemed pretty sick and I was really anxious about the thought of putting her down.  Dr. Lam came to our house, did a gentle, thorough, diagnostic exam and was very empathetic about how I felt as well as treating my dog for her ailment. His diagnosis was very accurate, he gave me options and explained them thoroughly.  He didn't try to sell me on all kinds of expensive diagnostics just to make a buck!  His rates are VERY reasonable, considering he comes to your house at any hour.  My dog is doing much better.He's doing veterinary medicine for the right reasons and I hope this review will encourage you to choose him.  It inspired me, knowing that there are still honest,good people who do good work for the right reasons.thanks so much Dr. Lam!  I really appreciate all that you do! I wish I would have known about Dr. Lam's services years ago!I am getting ready to ship my cats to Germany, so I needed the cats to get international microchips, current rabies vaccinations, and complicated international paperwork. The day after I called, Dr. Lam came to my house and took care of everything!He was so gentle and caring with the cats that even my "scaredy cat" didn't run away. Dr. Lam explained all the procedures to me clearly and even called a few hours later to make sure that the cats were okay after their vaccines. Incredible service!For all of this, Dr. Lam only charged a fraction of my former vet. (They quoted the cost of one international microchip as almost the same price as everything I received from Dr. Lam!) Taking three big Huskies to the vet can be challenging (and very expensive), so it was great to learn about Dr. Lam from a friend.  He came to the house on a Sunday, which was very convenient, and was able to see all three dogs in one visit.  We had been treating Niko for a persistent ear infection.  She had struggled a lot during daily applications in her ears, so it was great to learn that Dr. Lam advised a different solution, a one time treatment that should be more effective. He did blood work on site and wrote prescriptions that can be picked up at a regular pharmacy.  Best of all Dr. Lam was really great with the dogs, who all liked him. Dr. Lam spent about an hour and a half getting to know all three dogs and answering all of our questions. Much more comfortable and personable than the standard 5-10 minutes in the vet exam room. Today's visit at our prior vet's office would likely have been double the cost, or more, and taken half the day driving to the vet, waiting, etc. We're now keeping Dr. Lam as their primary vet. I am moving to Brooklyn from Honolulu, and I needed a veterinarian to do a health check and fill out forms for my parrot. I was faced with the possibility of not being able to fulfill all the convoluted requirements of the airline and the states of New Jersey and New York. Time was short and it was very difficult to get information. If my pet was a dog or a cat, it would have been much easier, but no one seems to be able to give an authoritative or definitive answer when it comes to birds. I was in touch with breeders, the USDA, New Jersey's Fish and Wildlife Service, Animal Health and Welfare, and Department of Agriculture, the airline's PetSafe and cargo people, both local and national. I needed someone to come to my apartment because I am trying to minimize the bird's stress. I called Dr. Lam and I made an appointment. He arrived when he said he would, made the necessary health check, and filled out the forms. He even did the research and cut the red tape that was driving me out of my mind. Through it all, on the phone and in person, he was calm and kind. He somehow cut the problems down to manageable proportions. I was so relieved to have my questions answered and the paperwork done. I would recommend Dr. Lam to everyone. He knows how to treat animals and their people with patience and a calming manner. He deals professionally with the immediate problem and goes the extra mile to make sure everything will be taken care of. He even charged me less than I was prepared to pay. I had an emergency with a miniature goat's labor and was searching frantically for a doctor who could assist.  Unfortunately, there are virtually no veterinarians who handle goats on my island and, while I did finally locate a veterinarian who was willing to perform a c-section, we first needed an ultra-sound to determine if it was in fact necessary.At last I located Dr. Lam's mobile service.  Oh my God, what a life-saver!  He spoke very calmly, inquiring and easing my somewhat frantic state (given that it had taken me hours to locate anyone willing to assist, I admit I was definitely frazzled) with his extremely calming "it's okay, I'm a doctor" type of questions regarding the status of my goat.  Although he wasn't familiar with goats, he was willing to help if he could and agreed to come do the ultrasound ... although I live on the other end of the island from him.When Dr. Lam arrived, it was clear he had done a tremendous amount of research and spoke of the process and what to expect while he examined my goat as well as her pregnant sister.  He handled my animals expertly, even taking pictures because he found them very adorable (and what animal owner wouldn't respond happily to that from a veterinarian?).Dr. Lam then thoroughly explained every aspect of both of my girl's status, emailed me videos from the ultra sounds and made certain I understood what he saw and all aspects of their birth processes.And then he presented the bill!  I was absolutely shocked.  I paid less than half of what I would anticipate for a office visit for a single typical dog or cat, not including medicine.  But he had performed tests and examinations on two unusual animals and driven an hour in each direction to visit them!  Affordable doesn't even adequately describe his rates!  And for an incredibly wonderful veterinarian???In some ways, I don't want to recommend Dr. Lam to anyone because I want to keep him my secret.  If too many people discover what a wonderful treasure he is, I have this horrible feeling that I won't be able to entice him to my side of the island.  And that I would sincerely regret, because I do ... After I arrived from chicago and needed a mobile veterinarian for my Yorkies. Dr Lam is so awesome and accommodating. His services, including traveling to my residence saved me/my dogs as they are so attached to me /get so scared at any vet office this is the only option I have. (Not to mention the convenience). He is concerned about the animal(s) not the money (many vets I have had previously are just the opposite)He is honest/upfront with a great personality/bedside manner. This is rare in my experience. Thank  you Dr. Lam. I am so happy to have found you. This was my first time using a mobile vet.  We had a great experience and will highly recommend to all my friends. We have multiple animals and he was able to service them all at  a very affordable rate. And I didn't feel like I was getting over charged like I do at the other vets. I have been to so many other vets from windward to waikele.  And I always left feeling ....over charged, not knowing what they did for that amount and sometimes don't even feel like I got the problem solved. With the addition of another rescued cat to our family, it is now officially way too onerous for me to round everyone up and cajole them into carriers for the annual schlepp to the vet.  It's even worse when they are sick (especially all at the same time). Dr Lam has a new mobile practice, and he travels island-wide. He was so easy to schedule with directly via email, and he comes right to your door, on time, with everything necessary to take care of your pets!  His prices, including the house call fee, were very reasonable.
